Preview of COH comic #1 out on Newsarama!
That was pretty awesome. I'm seriously pumped to start getting these.
Sgt Liberty - 50 Martial Arts / Super Reflexes
Verdigris Eagle - 50 Archery / Energy Manipulation
Stormeye - 50 Storm Summoning / Electric Blast
Seriously kick-butt. I like the way Recluse seems to be working behind the shadows.
In the Arena of Logic, I fight unarmed.

Very cool. Statesman is a tank, eh?
[/ QUOTE ]
A metaphorial tank; near indestructable, capable of dealing massive damage, and fighting like an unstoppable force of nature. Not a Tanker.

Maybe not an "ice" Tank in his 17s, but it sure decribes a Inv/SS tank in his 30s... I have to play on invincible to get a decent challenge at this point, but i hear that all changes in the 40s...

I just wanted to take a moment to let you know that those pages are a preview and the text is not final.
The Hellions/Outcasts error and the repeated text bubbles will be fixed for the final version.
Cheers,
Manticore
PS Brawl is dead on about Sister Psyche.

It's always nice to have a dev confirm what you say
then again he could just be agreeing with me out of fear of me knocking his toggles off.

Very cool. Statesman is a tank, eh? Great way to introduce us to the comic... and the art is very well done.
Lookin' forward to it.
And frankly, I'm glad Mark isn't Hopping down the bunny trail for this story. - It's a nasty slant on Paragon City - and I like it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nope. Statesman is a "tank" not a Tanker. His Archetype is Incarnate - to be released with CoV (reserve your copy now!).
Um... btw, did I just see Statesman get killed? 'Cause that would suck.
No disrespect to the current creative team on the comic but this is what I expected when I joined this game (in terms of a monthly comic book). And I am very excited that I now have it.
Cheers.
OMG...WOW...HOLY SH*&...I JUST WET MYSELF
That was awesome. And it was only the first ten pages. I can't wait for the other 20 or so pages to see what happens next. Excellent artwork, good narrative (way to go, Manticore,) and the action resembles alot of what I usually encounter in Paragon City...massive numbers of heroes fighting villiany in the streets.
I can't wait for it to come out. Congrats to Mr. Waid and the rest of the creative team.
What the.. how am I supposed to psychically know about I4 plot changes? I just play the game that's presented to me. I play superhero game cos I DON'T have those special powers. ;p
Fair enough, though.
Well, it was known that-that was Sister Psyce before the new Issue hit test.

It looks like you edited your post. Or I just misread Nevermind...

Not to gripe or anything, because I liked the comic a lot, but....
How can you use magic to turn off someone's powers? Mutants have then from birth, tech use machines that arent actually "powers", natural aren't even superpowered, science is some kind of chemical accident.... The only one I really think that would work for is magic! Also, where's the fun in a super hero comic when the characters don't have super powers?! It's also pretty dark for Paragon ain't it? I think the comics they've had going catch the atmosphere much better.
Now before you say anything, I don't exactly dislike the comic, I just wish they would have thought of a more... heroic story line for it! Apart from the plot holes I can't seem to understand I think the comic looks great, I like that Lord Recluse is tied in to it. Tis sweet that they made my favorite villain group (clockwork) look so badass!
Just my two cents.
I'm floored by how great this looks!
Excellent job by Waid and Co. so far!
All I can say is... people will probably be less excited now if they win a "comic book cameo" in one of the contests now
Players' Choice Awards: Best Dual-Origin Level Range Arc!

Also, that AIN'T Sister Psyche. I forgot the name; Estelle? Something? Been mentioned here in General before, some chica from Brazil. Plus the Outcast/Hellion thing.
It doesn't bode well where, in the first issue, you mess up some pretty basic character names like that.
[/ QUOTE ]
for the last time IT IS SISTER PSYCHE! the character who is sister psyche in independence port in issue 3 is aurora borealis's body which is inhabited by sister psyches mind. in I4 sister psyche gets her old body back, which is the body you see in the comic.
so the artis got it right, that is sister psyche.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, the story of Sister Psyche changing bodies in on live *right now* and has been since I3 went live. Calvin Scott, who is standing next to the current Sister Psyche gives out the TF for heroes lvl 30-35 (it is short and fun, I reccomend it). Without spoiling anything, that TF explains the changes in IP in I4 that are on test and will someday be on live. That TF is also gone in I4 (because it covers events that happen in I3 only) so do it now if you want the story.

Because it's magic?
It's just a preview of a story, and I imagine a small snip of the full story. Also you'll notice the narrative bubbles are using the past tense to describe the incidents in the scenes. Coupled with the 'disconnect' messages, may be a flashback, a dream induced narrative, or view of an alt dimension. Lots of possibilities.

The same way technology can stop someone from teleporting.
All forms of Origin have different ways of causing powers, but they all reach the same effects. I can burn someone with a flamethrower, or I can burn someone with magical fire. Same thing, different methods. I'm sure if Lord Recluse felt like it he couldve gotten a bunch of Tech's together to create a device that would have the same effect.

Shooting fire is one thing, but turning off the powers of every hero in Paragon City is an entirely different feat!
That's why it's magic.
What makes magic so powerful, and so unpredictable, is that it follows narrative logic as much as scientific law. You can cast a spell, make a wish, that "All heroes in this city lose their powers"... and it will WORK, if you have enough power behind it. There's no "scientific" explanation - it just happens. As someone said on the other thread, "poof, you're a newt."
To counter what another poster said, I don't think you COULD do this with a bunch of Tech origins. At least not so comprehensively, or with Tech of sufficient level to almost qualify as "magic" itself (e.g. Clarke's Law).
On-topic: I love the preview, and the Perez cover. I note that Positron's energy aura is emitting kirbyons.
EDIT: Actually, here's a thought - depending on how the spell is "worded", I wonder if it could be broken by the Mayor going on TV and temporarily dissolving the municipality of Paragon City. No entity/boundary of Paragon, no spell. (Like I said, magic works by narrative logic, not physics.)

Still doesn't explain how they "turned off" a Natural hero's powers...the thug's guns work, but my Assault Rifle doesn't?
Holy crap that was awesome!
I want my comic now, please >_>

...not until Malta starts equipping their Kronos Titans with bio-feedback cannons. Or, better yet, not until they start fracking with the War Walls so that they're emitting bio-feedback waves all throughout the city.

I didn't see anything that indicate thet Natural Origin heroes were suddenly powerless. I would guess that the reason why they were.... "valiently advancing in the opposite direction" is because some of their friends got wasted and this is probably the first time they've been faced with REAL death of heroes. Who's to say what you would do in that situation? This is when true heroes arise from the masses.
In the Arena of Logic, I fight unarmed.
Wow, just wow at the comic's quality.
Also the Natural heros dont seem to lose their powers by the look of Manticore, but when the teliport system goes down and you cant get an insteant heal/buff those little thugs with bullets look a lot more threating then before.
[ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ]
Uh, Stateman is Natural, and he lost his powers. My interpretation of the spell is that it shuts down anything that wouldn't work in the "real world". So Manticore's archery skills are unaffected, but Statesman's "inner will" is, even though they're both Natural in origin. This would also shut down all magic, and any technology more advanced than an automobile (which means the city should be experiencing a total blackout as the Terra Volta reactor, which uses Rikti technology, shuts down).
There's one small personal problem though; I have a character (Black Victor) that would die permanently if magic ever stopped working. So in the interests of a true roleplayer, either I'm going to have to concoct a good enough reason for him to stay alive on the listed date, or I'm going to have to delete him.
Wow. What a cliff-hanger. This is going to be awesome. Congrats to everyone who put their efforts into this. I love the twist on death. I wasn't expecting that at all. And Manticoe you look good in there.
