OK. How am I going to work COH MMO, COH RPG, COH figures, COH CCG, and going to the conventions into my budget?

Seriously, though, this is so cool. Ever since I got into COH I've wanted to tell some stories in missions. Now I can.

For anyone interested there is a press release floating around here: http://www.gamingreport.com/article....e=&order=0
announcing that Alderac has acquired the rights to do a CoH CCG.

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh.. my.. god.. What is next? CoH ring tones? A breackfast ceral? Statesman underwear?

[/ QUOTE ]

Do you think we could get Todd McFarlene to make figures of Statesman and the rest of the Freedom Phalnax?

[/ QUOTE ]

I still want more than Statesman as Heroclix. Give me the whole Phalanx and all the minions/lt's/bosses/AV's you can muster, please!

Tunnels and Trolls for teh win!!!1!

Seriously, as a long term roleplayer (17 days till the student nationals... w00t) how cool would it be to have Jack GM a game of CoH PnP.

I can see it now...

Jack: "Ok, you all start at lvl 1, and..."

Wee Jonny: "Oh man, can't we start at lvl 14, it sucks without travel powers!"

Jack: "No Power leveling..."

First of all, it'll be a Unisystem game - but with tweaks to combat.

Secondly, I might be GMing games of it at the big cons (Gen Con, Origins, etc.) - so keep your eyes peeled.

eyes will be peeled

Now that would be Cool, be in a game that States GMing.

It will be quite an honor to get my power-set Nerfed in person! (Re-Roll that dice as your Invunerable shield isn't working as intended)!

I'm hoping we'll see a system akin to TORG where we have mechanics for grunts and then for the "real" bad guys. While that wouldn't be exactly like the MMORPG version, I think it is a reasonable compromise.

CoH : Feng Shui

uh. . . holy smokes. . . that would WORK!!

Ah man....and I'm still paying down the cards from my last Gen Con trip.
Yeah - the Milwaukee one.

Well. There's just enough room for another trip now. . . if I split the room. . . with 14 other guys. . . and eat ramen for the weekend.

I would cackle and rub my hands together, nodding with glee... if I had any idea what that meant prior to my Googling. I was just familiar with this game and the "one stat" idea.

I need to read 20' by 20' room more, I suppose.

I can never let one of these gaming system threads go by without mentioning that I thought QED's Marvel Universe RPG was the bestest, flexible-ist, easiest, scalable-ist, superhero RPG ever.

The entire set of game mechanics could be boiled down to "I spend X stones from power A against resistance B." No dice, no charts, and it could handle any kind of hero you could think of.

One of these days, I'll finish my CoH converstion.

That said, my butt is still buying a copy of the CoH RPG, just for the reading material.

I'm just curious here....i know you guys are rather touchy on trademark/copyright stuff. so i figured you might want to check out this game.

Ever heard of "Heroes Unlimited" by Palladium Books. if not...i HIGHLY suggest you guys check it out.

it came out in 1984, and it is VERY simular to COH. there are a few differences on character generation and powers. All though the general idea is the same. superheroes.

I figured i let you guys know, if you haven't already found out.
I'd hate to see you guys get stepped on again with another lawsuit.

guess it has been longer than I thought since the last time I played Champions. I don't remember it being complicated, or requiring a calculator. I remember "acquiring a taste for it" in just a few minutes. I guess I was just sick of AD&D type games that were about two steps short of rolling a die and saying "I win".

[/ QUOTE ]

Don't get me wrong loove Champions! I have two characters here that were direct ripoffs (to the extent I could muster) of characters in that game. Character creation though... good gods! Unless you had the computer character generator it was at least two sessions making characters.

Unisystem is da bomb. My favorite is All Flesh Must Be Eaten. A sweet little system.

So I check the Dev digest this morning as see that there is a CoH TT RPG and CCG comming and I see AEG mentioned.

Oh my heart was aflutter

7th Sea and Lot5R were some of the best fantasy-historical RPG's I've ever played and although they seem to have gone over to the dark side recently (D20 *hock-spit*) The possibility of Roll and Keep CoH Was more joy that I'm used to on a dreary Wednesday.

Then I see that AEG is only involved in the CCG, I keep forgetting that AEG do CCG's too. I geek in almost every traditional field (Programming, Computer gaming, TT wargames, TT RPG, Fantasy art, Anime) but I've never understood the attraction of the CCG thing, I have a solid suspicion that the cards are coated in some kind of addictive contact drug.

But I will definatly be buying this RPG. I have no doubt it will be seriously cool.

I wonder if we'll get character updates like the Marvel RPG used to have containing the better lv50's that actually have background

You must be a great GM if you can run a game for 300!

We're currently retooling the RPG Godlike for a modern setting based in a state capitol called Circle City in the CoH worldsetting.

hee hee, I can't wait. Godlike is a game set in WW2 and is a gritty portrayal of superhearos, called talents. It's a really lethal system so we're having to tone it down a bit. Last game we played our group was part of D day and landed on Sword beach. Two chars nearly had their arms blown off within the first 5 rnds of combat. Luckily we had a healing talent on hand.

Anywho glad to see another neato rpg coming out, hope it's chok-full of background info.

Was there any word on a rough release date for the game? Or is it still in the TBD state?

Would this be only at GenCon Socal or possibly at GenCon indy? I go to the Indy one every year, socal is just to far.

Puppetland apparently relies on old psychoanalytic drama (using improvisational theater as a means of psychoanalytic method) and its mechanics draw heavily from Fuzzy Heroes, a tactical roleplaying game using stuffed animals and toys (written by Chris Clark). A nice alloy of presently existent elements, at best.

Heck it gets a bit to bogged down for me, but it's just so darn flexible. In my opinion any system that wants to do Superhero must have that flexibility (if not the large amount of mathmatical formula and charts.)

[/ QUOTE ]

This right here illustrates my biggest gripe with PnP RPG players - that they require a "flexible" system. What the hell? Every RPG system is 100% flexible! When did "if its not in the rules it can't be done" become the PnP way? I've encountered the over and over with RPG players for some time now and it boggles me.

You need something or don't like something that the rules have/don't have. MAKE IT THE FUNK UP! The more simple the system the better really. I think RPG players have gotten bound up in numbers, charts and rules and forget what the they are actually playing.

Damn lazy as GMs and tightass players refuse to think and will only accept what is presented to them in 12 point B&W font.

[/ QUOTE ]

Very true. In fact several of the D20 books I have for D&D also state that if you & your group don't like something, CHANGE IT.

PNP RPGS' heart & soul is the creativity of the players & GMs. With their creativity, a good system becomes great.

Virtue: multiple characters.

CoH/V: Woot! Maybe Fun is to be had once again.

Ack! RUN! Regen is glowing mean & green!

If it reduces you, it's a nerf.
If it buffs the mobs, it's challenge.
They are not the same.

Speaking as a reformed M:TG addict, there is a serious endorphin rush that occurs when you win a tough duel, just as in any one-on-one competitive activity.

I didn't kick Magic because I didn't enjoy it; god help me, I enjoyed it. I kicked because I couldn't afford to compete at the tournament level, and I was seriously considering cutting back on basic living expenses so I could acquire more cards.

So I quit and started practicing 16th-century rapier combat in the SCA as a replacement. Yay physical activity!

Statesmen as GM??!?!! wow......... this will need some serious budgeting

Of course... then we all have to fight for the right to be on the table (aka.. gaming size usally around 10 people per GM (unless you have CO-GM) even 10 is hard to manage at times.

In my College gaming club (this is not an exageration nor a lie) I had a friend who wanted us to try COC. I love horror and Lovecraft so I was elated. When the day arrived I saw many at the main gaming table. Then more players arrived and then more. When the counting was done there were 21 players at the table. It turns out that my friend had invited everyone in the club expecting that all wouldn't show up. Well...

He did run everyone. This is how he did it. There were several investigative possibilties in the game. When we went to investigate them he would move the players to the area of the table where most of the players who were investigating that part of the adventure were sitting. He walked up and down the table and would hit each group in turn. He kept a notepad with him and made over 30 pages of notes during the game. If you wanted to investigate something else that the rest of the people in your group weren't investigating, you were moved to the group that was there.

I was amazed and in awe of the man at the time and I still am today. The best part was the table where the indefinately insaine and dead went. We were having a hoot playing out our insanities in the city jail/morgue.
