Now that Top Cow is doing the CoH comic will any Top Cow toons appear in game? As trainers, contacts, people we save in missions, etc.

And will comic start over at number one for people who buy it at a comicbook store?

A) Highly Doubtful - although might see crossovers in the comic (still pretty doubtful though)

B) Most Likely

The new comic coming out is part of a new series. The old series will actually end.

I'm not sure if the new comic will be Volume 2 though. I would assume the new comic will start with CoH Volume #2 Issue #1

Also, I wonder if the fan features in the back of the comic, like the fan fic and news stories, will continue. Any info on that??

Yes. As the editor of that part of the comic book, I've been told that the community pages will continue... so keep submitting your art, articles and fiction.

Excellent! I had little doubt, but it's always good to get official conformation. Would've hated to lose our PSAs from Paragon City. "Stop A Mess: Just Arrest"

I'm so glad that top cow is doing the comic.

The current comic is very crappy IMHO. The artwork stinks and storyline is terrible.

Thank you so much for spending the dough on a better comic. =)

I'd disagree, in that your exact words are frankly way too mean-spirited about it and unless you could do better, I'd suggest leaving the critiques to the real artists out there.

It's not like this is some kid making them in his basement and handing them out for free, these guys are supposed to be professionals. Not only that, but we're being forced to pay for this crappy comic book, so we have every right to complain.

Personally I did not care for the jump in villain levels. One issue they are fighting Zombies (levels from 1 to 20). Next they are tangling with Carnies (40+). I was hoping to watch them advance in powers.

But that said, I will miss the banter and stuff between them. And all the comments on War Witch's Hair style. Are they gone for good in April? Or will they make other appearances?

Top Cow is a great boom for the comic. So it will be intresting to see where it goes.

You don't have to be a cook to know bad food when you taste it.

The "don't complain if you can't do better" argument has ALWAYS been a flawed one. I agree the guy could've been nicer about the way he phrased his opinion, but he's still entitled to have and voice that opinion, even if it's not complementary.

It's not so unrealistic. At first they had Horus exemped down to their level, then between story levels he PLed War Witch, and they just SKed Apex after that. ;p

But seriously, I didn't have much of a problem with that. The power levels thing seemed more like a gameplay restriction anyway.

MY problem with the comic has been mostly the episodic nature of it. It's meant to further the story of the game, but if it just translates the game experience into comic form, it's not really doing that. There's no personal connection between the heroes of the comic and their foes, and they flip flop from one villian group to the next in nearly every issue. And they've also missed a lot of opportunities. I mean, Apex's sister goes to her first day of work and comes home convinced that Crey are supervillians. Sure, it made for a funny line, but how much better would it have been to work a sub-plot of her working there and gradually becoming more and more unsettled with where she's working and what she's doing?

But I digress. ;p

I've personally always wondered if they were ever going to make an appearence in-game.

Hopefully it'll be nifty. Big name studio doesn't mean guaranteed quality, but It's a good idea to focus on Freedom Phalanx. It'll make these legends feel more legendary if we can -see- their exploits firsthand. As it stands now, in game, they're just NPC's you go to to level up and do TF's.

Mark Waid wrote the absolutely perfect 'Return of Barry Allen' storyline for the Flash, back in the early 90s. He is forever guaranteed all the slack I can cut him.

I did dig Apex, Horus, and War Witch. That said, we don't get to play with Statesman and the BAB... If I had to choose between the 2 comics, the Blue King book would get left behind everytime, no matter who was writing the book that features Paragon's Heavy Hitters.

I think most of the people getting the comic in their mailbox everymonth, to say nothing of the folks in comic shops who might pick up the book, are going to be much more engaged by a book about States and the Gang than by 3 nobodys who share a city with them.

Not that I have anything against a guy with a super skateboard and a chick who's power was being related to the Sub-Mariner, but there was a reason no one read The New Warriors.

So, will we europeans, who've subscribed to Coh since the U.S release, get the comic now?

Personally, I am more interested in the nobodys than the Superman level heroes, but I think Heavansrun has the right idea:

Well, I have to say I'm of two minds on this. I really liked the Apex/War Witch/Horus storylines. It gave a nice "day in the life..." view of heroes in Paragon City. Plus, I was really getting interested in learning Horus's secret and getting more info on Witch's "coven"... Hopefully they'll re-visit every now and then.

On the other hand, it will be cool to see more adventures/back story on the NPC heroes. Since you can't get an "Info" off of them, I've always been curious as to how some of them act, their origins, powers, etc. It will be very neat to see those stories as well.

I want CuppaJo to be in the comic, so I can see a graphical representation of her amazing powers of... coffee. And... her "moderation beam alpha"!

I'm too lazy to find a link to this thread, but the cover artist for the current comic posted sometime last week that the War Witch / Apex /Horus storyline was going to climax with Issue 12. We're at Issue 10 this month, so we've got a few more books in that storyline before the Top Cow switch.

I myself never minded the comic. Sure, it's not Alan Moore / Neil Gamon-level stuff, but it was fun and gave a sort of literary version of the things we encounter in the game - the tank that goes charging in before everyone's ready, the train ride to the next zone, "Insurmountable odds with no backup? We're In!!!", etc. I'm SURE that the new comic will be high-quality, but credit is due to the team that produce the current title. Whether you like it or not, keeping up with the production schedule is always a feat in and of itself

I'm excited about the new title, but I've actually come to enjoy the current series. It started off rather badly, but with the jury duty arc the quality of the plotlines finally picked up. I've actually started getting excited about new issues for once.

I also always felt people were way too hard on the comics. For a supplemental piece to the game, they weren't too bad. The villain level jumping aside, I appreciated that we got some more background on the inner-workings of the city that couldn't be delivered ingame without bogging it down.

That said, I've always wanted to see more of the Freedom Phalanx besides the bits and pieces we get in game. If they aren't going to play that active role ingame (which is to be expected, since that's OUR job), I'd like to see it somewhere.

Hope it's not the end of the War Witch/Apex/Horus stuff though. They'd finally grown on me too.

I met the colorist for the Blue King series at Megacon this weekend, by the way. He was kind enough to let me stand there reading Issue 10 without paying for it since mine always arrive so late.

I liked the old comic. I was actually glad there were no stories about Statesman, because:

1) We don't see Statesman in the game (till much later) so the comic more closely represented the day to day lives of the player characters, pick-up teams etc.

2) I don't really care for the "Statesman" character at all, so personally I'm not at all interested in finding out more about him.

Additionally, I happen to dissagree that "Make it dark" is a failsafe way of creating interest in a storyline.

as a promotional throw-in, the comic was fine. But that's not all it was intended to be- they sell the thing in stores, after all.

Measured on an objective scale of comic quality, it was semi-pro. The writing was superficial, the characters were profoundly boring (Horus was the only one with any pizazz) and the art wouldn't have cut it on a 'real' comic.

Waid is an experienced comic author and can't help but improve the product the same way replacing your pal Josh with a professional chef in the kitchen of your resturant would.
