Am I the only one to notice the "Super" freaks (song) aka Freakshow?

Also my favorite is the billboard making fun of the RL electronic's store "The Good Guys". Sign says "The Bad Guys. Direct from back of truck to you prices." That one cracked me up.

I still think Peregrine Island needs a Maria Dock. (5 geek points to whoever gets that one.)

[/ QUOTE ]

Maria was Horatio Hornblower's first wife.

[/ QUOTE ]
Do you really think I could be that indirect?

Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrine Took are the proper names of Merry and Pippin from Lord of the Rings.

Here's one for ya. I've seen Fake Nemisis saying "Another visitor." and "Stay awhile. Stay forever!" These are quotes from an Epyx game called Impossible Mission (not Mission: Impossible) that I've played for the C=64 (That's Commodore 64 for you youngin's out there). These same words were uttered (one of the few games back then that had actual speech in the game) by the main villain in the game as soon as it starts. I'm still waiting for one to say "Destroy him my robots." That's about the only thing left from the game for them to say.

[/ QUOTE ]

I only know "Stay awhile. Stay forever!" from The 7th Guest.(PC game early 90's.)

I've caught other references on and off, but after seeing the LV-426 reference a few posts up, I need to pay closer attention.(Considering I just did that mission with 2 different chars and didn't see it.) Yes, it was the planet they were terraforming in "Aliens".

Someone else mentioned Artemis Gordon, James West and Professor Loveless. It's "The Wild Wild West". (The correction had to be made. It's one of my favorite tv shows.)

Ours were Harpo, Groucho, Chico, and Karl.

We had Bart, Lisa, and Homer.

I apologize if someone's already said it, but the PC on the desk at City Hall in Atlas Park (maybe all the PCs in the game) has a browser window opened to Old Man Murray. It's partially hidden behind another window, but those familiar with the site will know it when they see it.

(I hope SOMEONE knows what I'm talking about -- I'd hate to revive a thread this old for nothing but I just noticed tonight).

I feel you there... First time I did that mission I was in stitches for the length of the mission, my team got waxed a few times because we were all laughing too much. I still snicker when I think about it and I'm laughing now from it to the point where I've had to retype about half of this.

Note on above: Forgot to include who I was quoting.

[ QUOTE ]
Wait until the 40's and Nemesis missions.

My favorite were the "Automatons" who look like normal office workers.

"Where's my TPS reports?"
"Who parked in my employee of the month parking spot?"
"That's my stapler!"

I literally could not fight mobs for the laughter.

[/ QUOTE ]

I would have edited it, but i didn't notice the mistake in time.

I was going to do that with the two machines we were going to have for a tactical training system we were going to develop; we got the first one, and I named it 'Colossus'; the second one was going to be named 'Guardian', and be down in the Tempest-certified room because it would have classified data on it, so Colossus was never going to be allowed to talk to Guardian... but then the project got cancelled before the second machine was bought. Pity.

The Abyss Towers - Enki, chief god of the Sumerians, was the Lord of the Abyss. We'll just keep to ourselves what else he was lord of.

In a low level mission I recovered the Jewel of Enki. I always took this as a reference to Enki Bilal author of [among others] The Immortal's Fete (aka Gods in Chaos), The Woman Trap and Cold Equator.

There's a boss in the 44+ TV trial named "Terigar" ... Terri Garr?

Some of the bosses in Synapse's TF are named for artillery pieces: "Big Bertha" and "Long Tom" are the ones I remember.

Independence Port has way too much in common with Three Mile Island. A nuclear power plant accident. It's apporximately 3 miles long, and it has alot of steel industry like Pittsburgh where Three Mile Island is located.

[/ QUOTE ]

Sorry bud, only thing you got right was that TMI is in Pennsylvania. Its actually located in Middletown , PA. 3 hours from pittsburg, 20 minutes from Harrisburg, 15 minutes from hershey(home of the delicious chocolatey bars), and 7 minutes from my house. Also the island is not threemileslong, but sits next to the 'actual' Three Mile Island. And no radiation defender jokes...

For the sake of being complete, I should note that the 'Kill Skuls' badge is from a forum joke, and the civilians in the train station asking for Ascendant is from a character on Virtue.

One of my personal faves:

Roland- Named Malta boss. Gunslinger. For those of you literary-deprived souls out there, Roland is the main character in Stephen King's opus work The Dark Tower

[/ QUOTE ]

http://www.gradesaver.com/ClassicNot...and/about.html

Roland goes back farther than The Gunslinger. hehe.

[/ QUOTE ]

Given the dark theme, there is another connection to King's Roland Gillead and his dark tower than can be considered a litterary classic worthy of a CoH reference. Robert Browning's 1855 "Childe Roland to the dark tower came". This is the poem that inspired King to write the gunslinger stories and well worth a read on its own merit.

How about the names of some enhancements? For instance, an "Oscillation Overthruster" is available as either/or Science or Technology origin.
"Curse you, Banzia!" heheheh

I don't know if anybody has mentioned this one, but Doc Delilah in the new Faultline is obviously a joke on Marvel's Doc Samson.

Don't know if these have been mentioned yet, but recently on the Heroes side a radio mission had me rescuing a Dr. Deering who (if I recall right) had been kidnapped from a conference on, I believe, time travel. Over on CoV, I had to kidnap a Dr. Theopolis. Both references from the disco-era Buck Rogers TV series.

Wow, this is a blast from the past.

I wonder if anyone's managed to compile all of these. Perhaps into a wiki or something, with an easy link to all of it in one page.

There is a page titled 'Easter Egg' in ParagonWiki but it's not even close to the size of this massive thread. Either the person (gods, I'm sorry, I forgot his name, there's a poster round ehre who does update the ParagonWiki stuff... I'm brainfarting though so I apologize to him) either this thread literaly sploded his head or his still compiling stuff.

I hope you guys didn't splode him. I love ParagonWiki.

I think this may be one. The Lost leader Muxly may be a homage to Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines. Aside from the name, Muxly appears to have the same laugh that Muttley does.
