Update # 3 - Anyone?

Hmmm... correct by accident? Interesting... concerning how Superman's powers were granted by his father (in a manner of speaking)

Still... I consider it a science origin because otherwise, the Hulk would be of natural origin.

Explaination: Bruce Banner was struck by Gamma rays releasing the natural human potential found within the hulk.

Unlike, say, spiderman, whose genes were mixed with that of a spider due to his scientific accident, the hulk has merely accomplished the pinnacle of human power, unlocked only by sheer accident.

Superman is the same thing. Under the natural order of things, he would've never left his planet. However, due to circumstances beyond his control... he was jettisoned in a spaceship, landing on an alien world, and bombarded by radiation from an alien sun. Granting Him his poers.

Even if this would've happened to EVERY kryptonian it makes no difference. The gamma rays that the hulk was struck by, perhaps every human would react the same way? Would the hulk then be natural? No.

Just because every other member of your species would react the same way to the bizarre circumstances doesn't make them natural.

And yesm Statesman can be wrong about his own game.

Posted

Maybe about his game, but not about the origins he wrote.

It's like looking at A Christmas Carol and telling Charles Dickens "Dude, Ebeneezer Scrooge is totally wrong, he'd obviously have had a Scottish accent!"

According to Statesmans definition of Natural, Superman is a Natural. But, I'm not going to make Superman, so why am I even arguing?

Superman falls into a category you can't play on here yet, but that certain enemies belong to: ALIEN.

(anyone that has played the MArvel Superheroes Role playing game will agree)

Alright, now argue with me

However, the origin of his half-vampirism powers is not aberrerant genes (because no mutation occured), but instead through the inherent magical nature of his vampiric parentage.

[/ QUOTE ]

Incorrect. In the Blade universe, vampirism is a transmissible virus. Blade was exposed to it before he was born, and it altered his DNA in the womb, thus, mutant.

I'm sorry, but I think this was one of the funnies posts I've read on this forum. I had to repost for those that missed it. To those who did it was made in reference as to why the devs don't reveal specific details about the next updates too early (well, one theory anyway).

HOST - Tired of being on the bad side of one of Statesman's mono-syllabic teasing statement? Well, fear not, now you TOO can learn this wonderful art and at a one-time low low cost.

STRANGELY WELL-SPOKEN AUDIENCE MEMBER - That sounds too good to be true!

HOST - Oh, it's not! The art of Statesmanship goes back centuries into the very basic core of human language development. You can tap into this art by by spending just pennies and making a lot of just dollars.

STRANGELY WELL-SPOKEN AUDIENCE MEMBER - Hmmm. Can you give me an example?

HOST - Sure. Let's take a look!

/screen waves back and forth briefly shifting to a living room scene. A woman is sewing in a recliner. A man walks in.

HUSBAND - What's for dinner, baby?

WIFE - Meatloaf and mashed potatoes.

HUSBAND - Wow. I had been building it up in my mind and now that I hear what's for dinner I've been let down. I'm going to go have sex with the lady next door.

/snap back to set.

HOST - See. Once the husband knew what he was getting, he didn't want it anymore. That's because anticipation is a powerful human emotion. Once you learn how to keep folks wanting something that they don't know anything about, you have them at your mercy!

STRANGELY WELL-SPOKEN AUDIENCE MEMBER - Wow. I never thought of it that way. But how would that apply to that brief, but beautifully poignant morality tale we just witnessed?

HOST - I'm glad you asked.

/snap back to living room. The woman again sits in a recliner as her husband enters.

MAN - What's for dinner, honey?

WOMAN - Funny you should mention honey.

/brief silence.

MAN - Is it something with honey?

/brief silence.

MAN - Toast? or, uh, aww come on baby what is it?

/brief silence.

MAN - Are we eating breakfast for dinner? Aww man that would be so good right now. Or is it... ummmm ham. I love honey-baked ham? Come on you ahve to tell me.

/brief silence.

WOMAN - I'm kindof thirsty.

MAN - Rushes off to get her something to drink.

/snap to set

HOST - See, it's just that simple. And with our fine product you'll learn how to extend your power indefinitely!

STRANGELY WELL-SPOKEN AUDIENCE MEMBER - Now THAT'S Impossible!

HOST - Is it?

/snap to dinner table. The man is greedily eating meatloaf and mashed potatoes. The woman is similing contently.

MAN - This is great! I love meatloaf. (smack) But I don't taste any honey.

/brief silence.

WOMAN - I didn't say when or where honey would come into play, now did I?

MAN - (with a big grin) Oh, you mean, tonight... upstairs... your headache is gone?

WOMAN - (In a high-pitched sing-songy voice) Now, I didn't SAY that.

The man begins to eat faster.

/snap back to set

HOST - See, you too can use anticipation as an ally. Just send check or money order to

Not sure if that is scarier than the Wodehouse possibility.

Clearly this is an indication of the impending arrival of the new Scurvy Scalawag villain group. Their powers will be Cutlass, Rope-Swinging, and Talking Like A Pirate Without Cracking Up.

Couple of more things I thought of over this weekend.

Couple of new indoor map layout ideas.

Museums - People panicing, Egyptian, Greek, Native American etc. artifcats around, with the Velvet Ropes, Magical Artifacts, The Artifact box we already have, portals, Crystals (CoT stuff). - Mission could be stop a villian group from finding an artifact thats the final piece they need. (Goes along with the current theme of some arcs, but this would be a musuem, as oppose to a warehouse or office building.

Banks - This would be a small map, Lobby area, and vault and back employee rooms, with some partitions in the main lobby. and the tellers row. - This is how I thought the layout should be. - You open the outer door, and your in a small area, with a glass door, that you can look in. You'll see lots of villians, and people lying on the ground, (ala hostage style). There's an ATM machine in this little lobby area. The purpose of the lobby area, will be to wait for your team mates who have slower loading speeds, to be in the mission before it "starts", you can get your team buffs ready, then open the door and the fun starts. - Since the levels will be small, you could have a timed mission say, to stop 5 bank robberies, within an hour or so. Even if different zones, like 1 in Steel Canyon, 1 in Skyway, 1 in Talos etc. - In addition to being able to defeat the bad guys, you need to be able to get around Paragon City pretty good and know your way around, including short cuts, like dance party, or Teleport Friend, to help the slower people on your team etc.

[/ QUOTE ]
I like this way of thinking...
World Famous Heroes - I have had the idea, that like the portal missions are alternate reality. The idea that once you are say around level 40, you have gained widespread recognition and you are recruited to help out in international crisises.
Story Arc -> You make a contact of a new scientist that has been working on an experimental teleportation device to instantly transport a person accross continents. Except certain criminal groups have stolen his research and made a device themselves. And are now wreaking havoc on other parts of the world. You have to use his original device to teleport across the world and save the people of the counties affected. Ex: The jungles of fictional south america have been infested by the Devouring Earth, they are attacking the local villagers that live there and cut off their limited water supply. Defeat the DE and destroy the dam contructed by the trees, so the villagers have water again.
This would allow all new types of enviroments without the restrictions to mostly urban envirorments. You could make any type of enviroment imaginable. And if I can speak about the Fire Base Zulu...nicely done.

Ok, I'll argue with you.

Statesman himself has said Superman is Natural.

Don't believe me, take it up with him yourself.

I'd like to see other areas of the city. So far we only really have industrial, parks, and commerical areas. I'd like to see some residental areas myself.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah. How about the suburbs? Or a college campus?

Someone else mentioned missions on top of skyscrapers. I second that!!

And while we're at it, can we please get around to letting us move a character from one server to another? PLEASE? I have a really nice character on one server that I'd really like to move to Virtue, and I can't. 24 levels of empathic defenderdom is really hard to redo.

Just a minor point but since when was being half vampire natural? (Blade) Not sure which origin to fit it in (probably mutant - he was born that way) but certainly not natural...

[/ QUOTE ]

Agreed. I'd look on vampirism as a mutation.

FYI he's of the "Alien origin" that was talked about at one time, but was not implemented. And btw, Statesman created CoH not Superman, might want to contact Jerry Siegel if he was still alive.

Yes, Statesman created CoH, but therefore, he created the origins of CoH. If Superman were a CoH character, he'd be natural.

Actually the Hulk wouldn't fit as Natural because, if I recall correctly (and not just based on the movie either), there was something unique about Bruce Banner's physiology that caused the gamma radiation to not kill him (that radiation was established to be leathal to a normal human in the comic book, I believe) as such, depending on what was the reason for the different physiology would actually help determine what his origin is. If it was caused by tampering with scientific laws man was not meant to know, then he would be science, if it was because he was born with a body that had the different physiology the he would have been a latent mutant.

On the other had, it was established at various points that all Kryptonians act as basicly living solar batteries when under a yellow sun (such as the original Supergirl, for example). This is something that is common in their physiology. (Again, unlike Banner who got hit with Gamma rays that would have killed a normal human.) If it were ONLY that which one was looking at, then he would have been Natural. But as I said before, Supes is actually Science, marginally, because of his father.

Just because it "seems" to fit or is the closest Origin available doesn't mean it's correct. There are plenty of DC/Marvel etc...superheroes and villans that don't really fit into the currently available origins. I mean would you really put the Crow into Magic or Natural ?...exactly. Aliens being the first that comes to mind for a not existing origin atm.

Posted

But out of the 5 we DO have, he would fall under natural.

Huh... I've never heard of that thing with his grandfather trapping everyone there.

Original comic book origin was simply the Gamma exposure, nothing having to do with unique physiology. This would make him "Science" as he was not born with errant Genes, nor is he using some natural ability.

BTW... would one consider this thread 'hijacked'? I thought we were supposed to be discussing update 3 here.

I have hijacked the thread by posting a video of a real life guy who jumps across buildings.

Super Jump?
I say yes. Also, take Samurai Jack, the living embodiment of what it means to be a natural hero, there was an episode where some ape-men taught him how to jump super-high by having him jump with rocks tied to his back.

Have some imagination, we're in a comic book game after all.

(Plus Statesman is Natural)

[/ QUOTE ]

Yup

My Natural AR blaster The Element Leader is the leader of S.W.A.T. The other S.W.A.T. the hardline branch of the Paragon Police Force that doesn't run like girls He has superjump and I explained in his origin that it was a prototype exoskeleton he wears under his fatigues that allows him to jump.

One of my team has SS he explained it in a similar way

Fly is easy as well, just use a tech belt model (the one with little pods works well) and say its an anti grav device

Teleport is simple, Portal Corporation prototypes based on the hospital technology that transports defeated Heroes to the hospital.

Yeah, I found that a bit odd too... probably one of the reasons I shy away from magic origin even though I am a rabid fan of wizards. Maybe if it was something like Awareness, where you have greater understanding of magical forces.

[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah. I'be actually proposed alternate SO categories (alongside the current ones) for, in part, this very reason, though I believe the original post has already passed on. Here's a brief synopsis.

Magic: Arcane Formulae
Mutant: Latent Psionics
Science: Hidden Potential
Natural: Nutritional Suppliments
Technological: Software Upgrades

I'm still scratching the surface of the Update #2 content. Danged "real" world interference

Archers would be sweet. I'm holding out making any new ATs til that is implemented. The changes to Tanks are keeping me plenty busy til then.

If I had to use the current origins that are used in City, I would agree with the Natural Origin for Superman. He is an Alien, but as someone pointed out previously, it is NATURAL for all people of his planet to have those powers around a yellow sun. So, in his own sense, it is NAtural. However, I just was hinting that I would liek an Alien Origin :P
