Quote:I think I know what your problem is and how to actually check your account status. But when I checked my account type, I'm told my account is Free instead of Premium.
I don't want to get all into the game again only to keep butting up against a lot of unnecessary restrictions because my account is flagged as Free!
When you log into your NC Soft master account CoH will show up as "Account Type: Free" no matter if you are a free player or premium. If you are VIP it will say so.
How to actually check: Log into the game and click the Paragon Rewards button on your screen. You can find it at the character select screen at the top where it says "Tokens Remaining #", or in game on screen somewhere. It is a round button with shooting stars on it. If you have at least 2 reward tokens earned you are a premium player. Note: you do not actually have to spend your reward tokens. Just having the proper amount of unspent tokens for a reward tier will max the tier. Example: if you have 8 reward tokens earned but 0 spent you would still be considered maxed in tier 4.
I have seen many players in the help channel ask how to become a premium player and often times someone will say that 1 way is to add a retail box code to your account. If you have the going rogue expansion and are able to create a Praetorian, you should be at least tier 2 with 2 tokens earned in the Paragon Rewards Program which would make you a premium player.

Edit: I should have read further responses to see you got it figured out. Oh well. I'll leave this info up for anybody else who may be interested in finding out. -
Quote:No, no, no. Go past this. Pass this part. In fact, never play this again. This all sounds really interesting. Us taking it to the Praetorian Hamidon, new 7-20 and 30-50 content, fun stuff. And, y'know, power customization.
Eh, it is what it is. There's no real easy way to handle changes to the game world or progressing storyline without this kind of stuff. Not unless you lock all storyline stuff behind Incarnate stuff, and then it's "the story begins at 50!" Which is bad. So I can work with this. It really helps not to think overly much about it and just roll with it.
When will then be now?

Hmm........The global message of the day when I first logged into the game said that the August 6 maintenance was postponed. The Paragon Market did load up just fine for me though.
-
The Paragon Market was scheduled to be down August 6th for maintenance.

I'm sure they have renewed their copyrights and trademarks when they were due. They just didn't update the login screen and splash screen to reflect that.

Thanks all very much for the responses.

I want to buy only 1 month of VIP time through my NC Soft master account but for using a credit/debit card I see no option whatsoever to purchase 1 month and prevent recurring charges. There is an option for that, but only if you're using Paypal and I don't have, want, or need a Paypal account.
When I go to my NC Soft master account and select "upgrade account to VIP" it says on the page for choosing payment methods "Important Notes: Credit and debit card payments will automatically recur until deactivated."
Then when I choose 1 month and card type under credit card plans it says this "You have selected the 1 month billing plan. If you do not deactivate your account prior to your bill date on the Billing Summary page, you will be billed $14.99*." On this page at the bottom I have only 2 options: click the checkbox to 'put my card on file' and a limit on how much money can be spent each month on my card (to prevent fraud in case my card is stolen I imagine).
I would rather buy a VIP time card but if I remember right, my local Gamestop (no other place close by that sells them) only has a 2 month time card and not a single month and I only want 1 month of VIP time so I can spend my reward tokens I've saved up from buying points to get the Mecha Armor costume pieces.
Would I be able to say, purchase 1 month of VIP time through my master account with a debit/credit card and then immediately cancel my membership keeping the 1 month I payed for and NOT be billed the following month? I won't have any more money on the card to cover the cost and don't want to take my chances that either my bank will cover the charge and charge me 30 something bucks for an overdraft fee or not cover the charge and NC Soft takes action against my account for failure to pay because I forgot to cancel my sub before it expired. -
I took both actually and a Broadsword/Shield scapper is my main and my first level 50.
Here is my build as he is now.
I usually don't team but the debuff resistance from grant cover is nice.

Yes it seems that since early June at least support has been giving incorrect responses on occasion. The strange thing is, for me, it's only 1 particular GM giving the wrong response when I file a bug report through the CoH support website, although I have other previous tickets responded to by that GM with the standard expected response. I never use the in-game support feature since I'm not VIP and it is reserved for them.
Support ticket examples:
#120603-000585 June 3, 2012
#120603-000624 June 6, 2012
#120618-000502 June 18, 2012 - I asked to have this ticket escalated to a higher GM for review and a little later that day it showed the status as "Waiting" but no response. After another day or two still no further responses so I just closed the ticket myself.
Due to these incorrect responses I am very leery about filing support tickets for bugs in the game now. To be honest I feel down right insulted from these responses.
Hopefully Freitag can look at this to ensure better quality customer service. Or maybe a nice VIP player could poke him and point him to my post? -
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Paragon_...Reward_Level_5
Quote:This has been a problem reported before here on the forums. The only solution is to purchase the Archetype for the character that is inaccessible or gain the appropriate tier in the Paragon Reward system.Tier 5 Bonus - Owning 13 Reward Tokens grants the following: Access to Controller and Mastermind Archetypes, +3 Salvage Inventory, +3 Vault Inventory, +2 Recipe Inventory, +1 Auction House Slot
The character slot is actually unlocked but since you don't have permanent access to the AT you aren't able to play it. If you purchase the Mastermind from the Paragon Market you shouldn't need to unlock the slot again and should be able to play your character. Also, if you were to delete the character you should find an empty available slot unlocked for use. -
Banter channel? I'd say we need an annoying troll channel more. Nothing worse than playing the game for a couple hours only to notice people arguing about politics. Then shortly later somebody says something about Canadians and someone calls them a racist, and the guy makes a big fuss about it, and it drives you so crazy you log out for the day, after cussing at someone and calling them a name who was asking where Boomtown was
. And you were planning on spending at least a couple more hours doing the summer trial on various toons to get more enhancements.
LFG channel a success? My foot! I see people posting in help channel looking for teams all day long. I have a separate tab for LFG default with help channel and if I switch over to it I'm seeing the same message posted 1 right after the other in both channels by the same player. Pretty stupid if you ask me that some players are smart enough to use the LFG channel but have to friggen spam it in both channels instead. I wouldn't call that a success. I would call the LFG channel completely useless. And to be honest it seems like the amount of players looking for teams in the help channel hasn't dwindled that much since LFG was added. -
Quote:This was tested during the beta period of CoH: Freedom of "what happens when the market server is down". Here's the rundown as near as I can recall:
(1) There's a backup flag for "this account is VIP", so you don't lose your VIP status
(2) Unlocked characters will continue to be unlocked, they will have access to any claimed items or powers they had before the downtime as well as any unlocked content. (Temp/inherent powers that don't represent a choice like the mission transporter are automatically claimed at creation, only when you choose between two powers like sands of mu vs. the ghost slaying axe do you need to explicitly claim them.)
(3) Claiming items will be down, so if there are any consumables you must have during those two periods, get them now.
(4) Creating a new character or unlocking an existing but locked character was troublesome. I don't remember if it completely failed or had problems, and in either case if you succeed you can't claim things on it.
Now, all this is what I'm pulling out of my swiss cheesed memory and could be wrong, plus there were fixes in the development process (originally, market server down, your VIP account just became a free account) and conceivably could have been more fixes since then. But I am sure that characters will continue to be able to use anything they've already claimed. So in prep, if you need to claim consumable items, create a new character, or unlock a character, smarter to do it outside of the down time.
I'm more curious about what's going to happen. I don't recall any announced maintenance periods for the market server, just the (rare) crash. Maybe it is just long delayed maintenance and optimization, maybe this is the start of fixing things that include parts of the market that drive us crazy like "doesn't show you've already unlocked something".
Sands of Mu and Ghost Slaying Axe are veteran rewards. They are not available from the Paragon Market. I don't see why you would lose access to that when it has nothing to do with the shop.
And what do you mean by "claiming items will be down"? Are you talking about claiming items from character email? I don't see why you would lose access to that without losing access to the entire in game email system. I don't think the in game email and Paragon Market are connected like that.
All in all, I don't think we will lose access to anything purchased from the Paragon Market prior to the downtime unless there was a major glitch/bug in the system. What was stated in the announcement is that, the ONLY thing that will happen is you won't be able to spend points in the Paragon Market to purchase new items. You can log into your NC Soft master account through the NC Soft website and buy points but until the market is back up you're out of luck in spending them. -
Aside from a second hockey mask with straps, I think the golf bag backpack should be angled diagonally over the right shoulder. It just doesn't look right being straight vertical. That way you can use that 1 barbarian chest detail strap that goes over the right shoulder and set it to the belt version and it would be perfect to make the golf bag actually look like it's strapped onto the back instead of just floating there.

Quote:You make a good point and I can understand getting powerleveled when you're quite familiar with the power set(s) already.IMO Monkeyslap hit the nail on the head. Now, i have run way more than my share of SS/Invul and SS/Will Brutes. So if I want to PL one of these to 50 (Why do I keep making more, why?) then no one can fault me for it, as I understand the character. However, my newest projects are the new Water Blasters, a Kin/Will Scrap (thx KD proc!) and a Dark/Dark Tank. None of these have I run to any significant level, some not at all. if I was 50'd with them tomorrow it would take me a few days to a week to understand the synergy of the powers and the timing of things. It is almost easier to learn as the powers level in over the course of a few days to a week as I 50 them "organically".
Basically what I was referring to are those idiots that get PL'ed to 50 and then go into the help channel and say things like "Please help me! I need help with my build!"
Some of them could be new players that only play the game to get to the max level as quick as possible for end game content. Where does a new player get all that inf for buying a PL service anyway when they haven't even played the game yet? Buy it from an RMT site I imagine. And if you're a free player and want end game content you're S.O.L.
Trust me, I have 3 level 50's I leveled up myself doing missions, some TFs, and repeated holiday trials (for badges) and all that's left to do on them is flashback missions for badges and being a completist, getting exploration badges, trying to find people for TFs for even more badges, badges, and more badges. And I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
But currently I have 27 characters created out of 31 character slots and I'm just enjoying the game. Been doing the summer event trial on over half of them all month. About 20 of them have all the summer event badges.
But it is kinda a running joke when a new power set comes out. The day Water Blast came out the first thing I did when I logged in was say in the help channel "I wonder how many water blasters have pl'ed to 50 already" to which 1 person replied "I was wondering the same thing". Similar comment in help channel when Darkness Control came out.
Pretty ridiculous when a new power set is released around 6am Pacific time and I log in around 4-5pm Pacific only to see a bunch of level 50s running around with the new power set. It's impossible even with XP boosters to get to level 50 in that short amount of time without power leveling. -
I do agree it would be nice to port over unlockable weapon models to other power sets. And some weapon sets need more models like: staff fighting, axe (a fantasy axe similar to the already available fantasy broadsword model would be nice and perfect for 1 of my character's costumes). Can't think of any more offhand.
One thing is, people have been complaining about the lackluster amount of staff models and asking why they haven't released a weapon pack in the paragon market like they did with titan weapons. http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Weapons_Customization#Staff
Would be cool to have a Ruluru staff with the moving eyeball in the middle of it. I think it could be done.
Edited for typo -
Quote:No Ruluru shield huh?Rularuu Weapons: There are no Rularuu weapons for Arachnos Assault Rifle, Arachnos Mace, Beam Rifle, Dual Pistols, Pulse Rifle, Staff Fighting, Shield Defense, or Titan Weapons. I suppose I can understand not having Rularuu guns, but what of Arachnos Mace (copy over regular Mace), Titan Weapons (upsize Broadsword/Mace/Axe), or Shield? (Perhaps something with a big blinking eye in the middle?)
Goes great with my Ruluru braodsword

I've noticed if you get too far ahead of your pets, they will sometimes teleport right to you after you stop moving. I could be super jumping through a city on my mastermind and half the time I land on the ground suddenly my pets drop next to the spot I land on and go through the summon animation (in my case my robots will have that box that drops and opens up and they come out of it). So in my experience pets have no trouble keeping up at all. And my robotics/dark miasma mastermind was my third level 50 character.
Edit: My only beef is that sometimes my battle drones will stupidly use a ranged attack, then charge right up to melee range and use the same ranged attack again and/or a brawl like attack. It does look funny though seeing a little drone smack a bad guy twice his size. -
What's the point of being powerleveled only to do the content through Ouroboros? You won't know how to play your character. I've seen players in the game tell people begging for free farms to go play the game and complain about how people get powerleveled to 50 and then wonder why they suck, because they don't know how the character works.
-
One thing I've noticed is that if you go into enhancement management and put your mouse over a power that has no enhancements slotted or only a proc, all you will see is allowed enhancements and allowed set categories. It won't show you any numbers or anything else since the power isn't enhanced at all. Apparently from the looks of things it's different with incarnate abilities. I'm not VIP so I couldn't tell you but that's the way it looks.
-
Can we get a second hockey mask more realistic-like with straps that go over the top middle of the head and around each side and connect in the back? The mask with no straps in your current pics is great.......for head details, hairstyles, and the head set to 'full masks' (so it can look like 1 whole mask instead of a hockey mask placed over another mask and no straps to clip through certain details and hairstyles) is great and all, but I want to have a hockey mask with the head set to combed back or bald and not have a mask look like it's just glued onto the face.
A strap over the top of the head would be a great option to make that nail mohawk look more realistic and part of the mask rather than being, well, nailed into your head. -
I was mapserved for about half a second once last night. I asked in the help channel if it happened to anybody else and 2 people in help said yes while I immediately also had 2 people send me a tell saying yes. 1 of the people in help said it happened to him a few times in the last 2 hours. So the problem seems to be happening to others as well. Which means, posting info about someone's computer here is most likely not going to solve anything since the player's computer is most likely not the cause of it. In fact, I have been map served once or twice besides last night in the last few days.
P.S. And telling someone "turn ambient occlusion completely off" does not solve everything and is an indication you are blaming the player's computer for the problems. -
Are you sending in multiple support tickets for the same problem, or separate tickets for different problems?
-
I noticed this too and for me it isn't random. It use to be I could choose whatever colors I wanted for something like a head detail even when nothing is selected and it's set to 'none'. When doing up costumes if I manually set a piece in a category, like head detail or chest detail to none or whatever, the colors will reset to the black and white colors and can't be changed again until I choose a costume piece for that category, in which case I have to rechoose the colors again.

Quote:Thanks for that. I was just going to ask about it myself.Attuned enhancements (Store Bought sets, ATOs, and the new set from the summer event) level up with you. When you exemplar, they are still treated as the same level as your REAL level, and then scale down to your exemplar level. Their set bonuses are retained at any level down to the minimum level for the set-3. So, if you have a set of attuned Luck of the Gambler (level 25-50), you keep the set bonuses and the Global Recharge boost all the way down to 22.
I have a lot of store bought enhancements. Got a few sets on my level 50 main hero. If I had the money, and more sets were available in the paragon market (no steadfast protection set), I'd deck out all my characters will all store bought enhancements so when exemplaring I wouldn't have to worry about losing their functionality and bonuses.

Quote:OK so I was mistaken on that. Still though, there are no exploration badges inside the underground resistance bases. If there were, villains and loyalists would not be able to get all of them unless they switched to hero first. The other thing is, there is no real reason to even enter the underground resistance bases unless you are a praetorian resistance alignment and in the proper level range of the zone to do the missions. Sadly the level 1-20 praetorian missions can't be done through ouroboros flashback.Yesterday I decided to take my level 31 former Resistance/now Vigilante character back to Praetoria to pick up the exploration badges and read all the plaques (this character had already left Praetoria before I really understood the whole "badge" thing, and I hadn't discovered VidiotMaps yet). Like the poster above me, I had no trouble entering the Resistance bases. On the other hand, the NPCs inside didn't "know" who I was, but that may have been because the base I entered yesterday wasn't the same one I spent time in when this character was < 20.
I didn't try the various, dedicated "Resistance Underground Entrances", though - I just entered the tunnels through whichever red circle entrance was closest.
