Banter channel?
Not especially opposed to the idea ... but it probably wouldn't work. The people who abuse the help channel do so because they know they have the "entire" audience, and a captive audience to boot, unless you want to turn the help channel off. So, they would probably continue using it.
What I would like instead is a selective ignore feature. (i.e., I want to ignore this person in the help channel only, or broadcast, or whatever )
What they also need to do is to hire some kid at minimum wage to be the public channel moderator.

To adapt a Yogi Berra quote: So many people would talk in that channel that nobody would use it!
No, but seriously, this would be nice. I like to have the occasional random conversation, and it would be nice to do it without clogging up Help or LFG.
Just create a global channel and invite people from across the servers to join it. While it may not reach *every* player, you can still get a wide selection of players who are willing to just "chat."
...or do you mean a server based banter channel?

These people were abusing the Help channel before the game went F2P and they had access to every channel, adding a new channel won't stop them.
Banter channel? I'd say we need an annoying troll channel more. Nothing worse than playing the game for a couple hours only to notice people arguing about politics. Then shortly later somebody says something about Canadians and someone calls them a racist, and the guy makes a big fuss about it, and it drives you so crazy you log out for the day, after cussing at someone and calling them a name who was asking where Boomtown was. And you were planning on spending at least a couple more hours doing the summer trial on various toons to get more enhancements.
LFG channel a success? My foot! I see people posting in help channel looking for teams all day long. I have a separate tab for LFG default with help channel and if I switch over to it I'm seeing the same message posted 1 right after the other in both channels by the same player. Pretty stupid if you ask me that some players are smart enough to use the LFG channel but have to friggen spam it in both channels instead. I wouldn't call that a success. I would call the LFG channel completely useless. And to be honest it seems like the amount of players looking for teams in the help channel hasn't dwindled that much since LFG was added.
Just to note - the LFG channel is somehow also binded to the Help tab.
Some of the default tab settings are kind of... well... dumb... Why is broadcast also put into the local tab and local chat put into the broadcast? Do we really need two tabs for broadcast and local chat? I manually go and fix all that garbage every time I make a new toon (also now take Help and LFG out of Broadcast and then go and take LFG out of the Help channel.)
I hope in i24:Fix All Things some of these... wonky... default chat tab settings get a one over.
Throwing out an idea that's probably been mentioned or at least thought about before - with the apparent explosive success of the /LFG channel and /Help's track record for off-topic discussions that can sometimes drown out legitimate calls for assistance, what would you say would be the pros and cons of a server-wide banter channel?
