  1. Funny that these same kind of threads pop up every few days. Your search fu is weak!

With that said, I would advise you to look at Super Strength, or WM/ Battle Axe. All those are new things for you, assuming you haven't done them on a tanker or a previous brute experiment. All three have strong AoE potential and are a fun ride.

You know full well from your fire/shield scrapper that your secondary can be tremendously influential on one's success as an AoE monster. Therefore, I would advise you against willpower and steer you in the direction of /FA, /ELA, /DA or maybe even toward /shield again. Adding damage auras into AoE is a great way to maximize damage. Of course with shield and fiery aura, you get nifty ways to not only maximize damage potential, but you even get attacks. /DA and /ELA are both very sturdy and will add AoE dmg fields.

/ELA and /FA have built in endurance recovery tools, and with cardiac alpha tree, energy mastery, and proper IO slotting, even the thirsty beast that is /DA shouldn't have too many issues with endurance.

My latest Empathy/Sonic/Elec build (on Rianna) has HA, HO, and AP (a first for me for AP) along with Fort, CM, AB, Assault, Tactics, Maneuvers, and Vengeance effectively slotted. The HA with Spritual is something in the neighborhood of 307 hp, the HO over 600. I can and do run an attack chain with fully slotted screech. shriek, scream, EF buffed by Aim and Assault. In the various Weekly target TFs I think I hit my Dreadful Wail roughly once every 3rd spawn or so (about once every 90 seconds or so) and usually the first thing I try to do to every spawn is lay into them with Howl and its 60+ ft cone. She also has 65ft stealth with Recall Friend. And while only my teammates can say just how delusional I may be, I think I'm reasonably safe to say that those little green icons along side their names are usually abundant enough to be consider "supportive" despite my tendency to lay into whatever spawn looms into view.

Guess I think they aren't nor should they be. The only limit on one vs the other is the Player at the keyboard.

    Reyna Morningdew (Lvl 50 Emp/Rad/Dark/Spiritual)
Rianna Sidhe (Lvl 50 Emp/Sonic/Elec/Spiritual), both of Green Machine

    Dark Lightning (Lvl 50 Emp/Dark/Dark/*)
    Tryth (Lvl 50 Emp/Sonic/Elec/Spiritual)
and several more in the 35+ range

*Nevermind most defender blasts are also "support" by virtue of their secondary effects.
Nicely done. Any empath that plays like this is more than welcome on any team I have rolling. You have shown that empaths can be effective and (dare I say) dangerous...

You should say that bit again: Having good support/buff/debuff is not mutually exclusive with blasting.
  4. Certainly an impressive feat! Congrats.

    Group Fly

However, each new opinion makes devs edgy, it shows lack of solidarity on what the community wants, so often no change is made for fear of stepping on somebodies toes.

The only thing that everybody I believe can agree on though is that the 25% -tohit group debuff is ridiculous and needs to be eliminated. So I see this as the thing people need to rally on.

    Now
The prompter, perhaps if it had one of the "don't ask me again" things tagged in the options menu for response, would probably be perfectly reasonable.

I'm worried about mentioning the radius change because it seems like a big change to the power due to the fact now you can imagine it like a large spherical cushion of air... any larger though and it may as well be "grant group fly" which actually isn't too far off what you'd like.

As for grant fly, thats simply the cottage rule "powers must maintain their original intent" (something like that) in affect. Not a bad idea, but now that it's in the game there's also going to be plenty of people who took it, who'd be angry if the power was swept out from beneath their feet. That kind of decision usually needs to be made pre-release to avoid backlash.
Good points. I think we can all agree, as it is evidenced in every post here, that the to hit debuff should be scrapped entirely. Other points are arguable, but the to hit debuff needs to go. I took the power once on an empath, and I realized quickly how awful it is in it's current incarnation.
  7. On my DP, I skipped Suppressive fire and the tier 1 power. Why? My corr is dp/kin. If I want to be safe, I will slap a siphon speed on target and run out of range. Sure, not as reliable as a mezz, but it does offer some safety. Besides, if I don't know how reliable the stun is, but it isn't as sure fire as a troller or dom that is probably on team anyway. I skipped the t1 just because I normally do.

Also, it takes some of the very few uses of the power away. For example, you suggested the cave hole. Doesn't work to well when people still fall to the ground, get all the aggro, then accept and fly back up.

People who won't listen and turn it off when they should, should probably be kicked from the team. HOWEVER, people will not have that attitude everytime it's used, if it doesn't cause them to miss half their attacks. It should be "Oh cool, I can fly yet I did not select that power, how novel and mildly useful. Thank you my eccentric temporary friend"

There should NOT be a COST associated with this power, it's like saying vengeance needed an end crash, or superspeeds whirling whatever the hell could also throw teammates or confuse you or something.

This is a power pick, not a temp power. It doesn't NEED a downside for your team, maybe for you, but not them, that's how buffs work.
Thanks for your response. As far as the range, I would not call it enormous, or maybe it just didn't feel like it because your teammates flight speed is considerably lower than yours, and they would be outpaced, outranged and hit the ground fairly easily. Maybe just matching the flight speed or making the difference not so vast would be fine.

I still don't think it would be absurd to add a prompter. Let's say it was something like "Player 1 has granted you flight for 3 minutes. Do you accept?" Not something that will flash in and out as you come in and out of range.

Well hell, I just had another thought. Instead of Group Flight, why not make it something like Grant flight? Each member is given a prompt and the flight will last 3-4 minutes. Don't get all angry on me... just a thought.

I have a fm/fa brute with 46.7 defense to smashing and lethal, decent resists and great recharge- so it is possible to softcap without gimping yourself with the brute or the tank. (thanks static!)

Of course, with some of the high end content, a tank is just going to fare better now that the difference in HP is so pronounced. Yes, soft capped def is soft capped def, but what happens when those hits start trickling in?

Both can be all purpose, but the brute will be better for farming and the tank will be better for tanking (duh).

Before tankers got buffed, I was of the mindset that tankers were easily replaced by brutes in tanking roles, and that is still true for much of the game. For the two new TFs and even more in what else is coming, brutes just aren't able to stand in for tanks sometimes. The difference in survivability is just too great.

    Group Fly

Now that the discussion is getting serious, I have to say I agree. I love the flight pool, but Group Fly is such a turd of a power. The only time I have found it to be useful is on those retarded cave missions with the big hole in the center of the room.

    1. Remove the to hit debuff
    2. Increase the granter-grantee radius so I don't have to be in your back pocket
    3. Add a prompt like teleport to allow rejection of the power

Why this does not also apply to the relationship between Scrappers and Stalkers is beyond me.
QFT. Wow. I have never seen this stated so well.

Brute already has Energy Melee and Stone Melee. I can see why if you have tried other Brutes, Kin doesn't stand out as much with slow aoe attacks.

On Stalker, though, you get 100% critical damage from Burst which is quite nice. I like Kinetic on Stalker.
Oh, I agree that KM favors scrappers more than Brutes just because of the way +damage buff works. I only got the brute to 50 because I prefer playing brutes over scrappers generally. Still, I personally have to say that DM>KM for stalkers. I don't think it is awful for stalkers, I just don't think it to be as good as DM. Hehe.

I actually have a lvl 50 alpha Kin/Dark. Kinetic is pretty good on stalker. The -damage debuff will help you in situations where you die in one hit or too fast for you to heal. It is not that hard to stack set bonuses to get Ninjitsu to god-mode like defense in the end, so the tohit debuff doesn't necessarily give you any more "defense" than you already have. Dark Melee is very good for ST damage with fear and heal and negative damage.
He didn't say that nin is the best. He didn't say any secondary was the best. He did say, however, that nin is among the best in secondaries. I would agree.

Back to the original question- I would rather go with DM. DM is a great tool box of a set. Hard hitting attacks, self heal, and plenty of to hit debuffage make it sturdy. KM is far from my fave powerset. I have tried it on a brute and scrapper, and neither felt particularly spectacular. In fact, I have a fully loaded (IOs) KM/WP brute and I wish I had invested the money elsewhere. I think DM is superior in nearly every aspect.

Like an earlier poster said, though, it all comes down to what you feel about each set. They are similar in that they are both fairly ST focused, but there are sharp contrasts outside of that.
  16. Since Regen is clicky enough, I would prefer to get to 45% s/l defense at all times. Even with that 5% difference, the number of hits that slip through will be more than you might think. Furthermore, if you go for the Spiritual Tree for Alpha slotting, you can slide more recharge into every single power you have. Seeing as the +def tree in alpha would only slot defense buffing powers, it would not be very helpful for a regen stalker.

Sure, during tasks like ITF you will find that defense is easily cut down with no defense debuff resistance, but it is still worth it on a melee build like this. I recently completed a revamp of my fm/fa and the difference between 40% and 45% s/l defense is huge.

Well, now I see that you have figured out how to have your cake and eat it too. Enjoy!

Scrappers get Shadow meld, yes. You are in luck. Tankers and brutes get Darkest Night.

Your Mace/shield is taking shadow meld? As in Brute? I hate to rain on your parade, but Shadow Meld is only for stalkers and now scrappers. Brutes and Tankers don't get any of that sweet shadow action, unfortunately.
  19. Just had to drop in and say that Fedora Borealis pic is amazing. Nice job, Tex.
  20. Seems like it would give your enemy the endurance since the target is the enemy and not you. I don't think this kind of reaction is a bug, it is just WAI.

    Agreed.
  22. Call me crazy, but if I were building a TF and looking for Radiation Emission, I would not not want a Radiation Blast user sitting in.

Just about every powerset in the game has a secondary effect when in use, but I don't think I would bank on the secondary effect of radiation blast to carry nearly as much weight as the debuff from radiation emission.

Think about what you are saying- if you were building a tf and looking for a rad emitter specifically, would you take a Blaster with Radiation blast instead of a radiation emission corr/def/troller? Because it sounds like you are fine with that...
  23. I don't think there are any odd combinations. I have seen pretty much one of everything. Add to that the fact that there are oddballs out there who will make a toon based on unpopular or seemingly unsynergistic combos just because it has that status.
  24. I see plenty of people that play SS/Inv. Just because you haven't seen many doesn't mean that they aren't around.
