Quote:I wonder which defensive toggles you would choose to ever forgo on a /SR, /FA, /WP, /Nin, or /EA?The advice that I was accustomed to hearing even in the early days of CoH was to put an End Reduc in every toggle and major attack, and to slot up Stamina. This goes a long way towards makng any toon more endurance efficient. But it will never totally overcome situational dangers like Sappers, Juicers, and Carnies.
I don't think the inability to completely conquer one's endurance woes is a design flaw in the game. A lot of people don't realize that we are not meant to be running all our defensive toggles at the same time all the time. We are meant to be turning them on and off situationally. Why else do you suppose they take recharge rate enhancements? Trust me, it's not because they can be knocked off by mez attacks (a rare event for any melee toon) or because of End crashes or basic End depletion. But we treat every toggle like an Auto and then call the game design flawed because toggles aren't autos? Well, I'm not prepared to jump on that particular bandwagon.
In /SR all you have to fall back on is Def, by turning off any of your toggles your losing your def debuff resistance and def debuff is plentiful across a multitude of factions.
In /FA turing off either toggle means dropping part of your mez protection.
In /WP you can if fighting foes with only smashing and lethal damage forgo Heightened Senses and when facing foes with only pure elemental damage turn off Mind Over Body. The situation in which you face only pure damage of one type or another outside of AE is very seldom. Your other two toggles, RttC and Indomitable Will should never be turned off in combat period.
/NIN is much the same as /SR if you turn off either of your toggles your choosing to give up 1/3 or 2/3 of your defense to save a small bit of EPS.
/EA goes down that same road as /SR and /Nin with DDR and your main toggles. You could try not running your mez shield but that isn't normally a good idea. You could forgo the stealth/def toggle and if your soft capped without it that might not be a bad idea but the stealth toggle is the only one in the set that you wouldn't want to run full time period.
For certain at times for a mission or two in the game you may run into a faction that makes one toggle or the other unneeded. For the vast majority of the game your going to run into a wide mix of damage in every spawn.
You tend to see this wide spread of damage types often enough that making a choice to attempt to save end by toggle management hurts you more than it could possibly help.
In /FA by dropping either of your -

Quote:/Willpower really has no need for recharge of any sort but you are going to tend to lean toward spiritual alpha for the +healing aspect.I'm curious - what builds out there don't need:
- Luck of the Gambler
- Recharge stuffed in every set bonus
- Spiritual Core Alpha
- Hasten
To perform at or near their top-level performance?
I think in particular it'd be neat to see builds that use Radials instead of Cores for their Alphas. The side bonuses are potentially very nifty QoLs - better Hover Speed, Longer Intangibility (though everything I've had that uses Intangibility doesn't actually accept that slot...), Super Accurate to-hits.
/Shield builds tend to focus on +def before all else and the end usage is high enough that many take the Cardiac alpha branch.
Forcefield/ Defenders have 0 need of recharge or +heal so that opens up the alpha most likely moving down the Nerve tree but your secondary choice is going to want at least some +recharge to run an optimal attack chain.
Bots/Traps MM's can solo AV's from the mid 20's on with SO's. Sure the more Recharge the better with traps but with that level of performance on SO's you can really build them out just about any way you wish.
I am sure there are others that partially or totally fit your request but those are my off the top of the head responses. -
Quote:Of those you listed I would favor the Rad. With /Traps your going to want to be in close to toe bomb and get the most from your traps. Rad gives you a PbAoe and a Taoe to use while your mixing it up inside. So, debating between Energy, Psychic, or Radiation for a Traps Corr.
Not explicitly looking for shenanigans (e.g. AV/GM Soloing et alia), but looking for something that won't have me hating my life.
Rest of the Blast sets are discounted either because I already have a Corr with it, or with Sonic, the wife has a Sonic/Traps and I'd like not to clone hers.
However, if there's an overwhelming reason to go with one of the other Primaries, I am willing to listen to reason.
Managing the KB of energy in a way to not waste the effect of your traps can be an exercise in frustration.
Psi's main advantage the range on the attacks is wasted on /Traps since you do your best work in tight. If you wanted to be a lay out traps and pull kind of player than it might work alright but I have never met a team that wants that kind of trapper around. -
Quote:Most would say to skip it. Once you have perma Dull Pain and you can soft cap def with one in range of Invincible the situations in which Unstoppable are useful dwindles fairly quickly.I've been gone a few years so apologizes in advance.
Question: Is it a good idea for Invuln brutes to skip Unstoppable?
I've been looking at Invuln posts/builds on the forum and I see a lot of advice for Invuln brutes to skip unstoppable because (I think) you can get 45% S/L defense?
I've never made a defense based Invuln so I can't talk from experience but I really like having an OH BLEEP button when things really get tough.
And having the Speed pool Burnout Power with a lot of Global Recharge would allow Unstoppable to be used more often, yea?
Just looking for opinions.
Thanks.
With that being said if you like the power and enjoy having it as a oh Pancake button then take it as a one slot wonder and call it a day. -
Quote:After you come to Primal at level 20 you are a hero or villain and wouldn't be locked out of the toon for that reason.I made a mastermind and started in Praetoria. I realized after the fact that I wouldn't be able to access a sub-20 character in Praetoria if I let my subscription expire. But it brings me to this question:
On a free account, may I access a character that's level 20+ and outside Praetoria if that's where the character originated? Is it still a "praetorian" after it's left the zone?
The last time I played since 2006 was this September, so I know very little about Going Rogue content.
Thanks.
You could however end up locked out if you haven't purchased a Mastermind unlock or aquired enough Paragon Rewards Tokens to have Masterminds unlocked even as a premium player -
-
I always aim for 2 eps gain after toggles on all my toons.
You could add up the EPS of your attack chain and clicks then add those to your toggles and know your total end burn. I have found that this lets me run 3-6 minutes non stop for most of my toons and aside from AV/GM solo'ing it is a rare fight that takes that long. -
Quote:I used the three I was granted when i21 went live.Has anyone been doing any concrete testing to determine just how much better drops are with Windfall active? I mean I'm not expecting a guaranteed purple each time I use it or anything, but I was just curious as to its exact effects and what level range benefits most from its use.
Also, has its effectiveness been measured against how many PPs it takes to purchase a bundle, or the benefits of selecting windfalls as a Paragon Reward over anything else (which would probably be subjective, as some people might prefer unslotters or boosters)?
My curiosity is matched only by my laziness, which prevents me from doing much testing myself =/
My normal rate is one purple on the Demon farm with my SS/FA brute. I was right at 3 per hour with windfall active.
I normally hit 18-22 recipes a run on the Demon farm I was getting high 30's low 40's with windfall active.
Since purples are about the only drops that are worth selling it was a nice increase but it didn't push my inf/min close to what I could get ticket farming so I won't be buying any others. -
Quote:That's a huge YMMV set up. Clicky secondary plus weapon set primary means massive redraw. While it can be a ST monster if redraw bothers you in the slightest avoid this mess at all cost.I'd give beam rifle a whirl - time should keep you alive for the set-up and you'd be a single target monster with the combo.
If you have somehow been blessed by the heavens with the patience to not want to stick a boot through your monitor every time you have to see the darkness cursed redraw animation then by all means continue to enjoy it. -
Quote:You would have 30% defense.Just had a quick question on defense and how (or if) they stack
*example if I have 30% lethal defense and 20% ranged defense and I get hit with an attack that is ranged and lethal dmg do I then get 50% defense?*
tried looking this up and some of the articles were a bit confusing , thank you in advanced for any help
The game applies your highest applicable defense against the attack.
Against an even level minion with no tohit buff applied to them that would mean you have a 20% chance of getting hit by the attack in your example.
It is impossible to reduce any foes tohit chance to lower than 5%. Some foes like AV's that have a higher base acc mod can only be reduced down to ~7.5% before taking into account level difference.
More good info here for you: http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Attack_Mechanics -
Quote:Both /FA and /ELA have End Drain resist. I don't think it is possible to end drain an Elec that took Grounded and stays on the ground. /Fa now receives end drain protection for 2 minutes with each application of Consume.-end drain resistance
-biggest heal (which, however, requires targets)
-stealth, with +def that doesn't suppress (making it easier to meet def goals, and can hold lotg's)
-as you mentioned, psi resists.
-mez auras in additon to the dmg aura. edit to add: CoF has a 5% to-hit debuff
-a self-rez with a mag 30 (!) stun
-protection from Fear effects
- +perception
more subjectively, thanks to power customization it's prettyand you don't see yourself coming and going (DA seems to be less common than ElA or FA).
/ELA does have psi resist also but not nearly as much as you can get from DA .
The rest looks spot on to me.
I always felt DA got short changed on it's Damage Aura. Every other damage aura has a secondary effect. Fire gets more damage and Elec helps with sapping but Dark just does the same damage as Elec with no bonus. -
Quote:1st thing: Your event your rules. Hard to really argue with that.Hey Scrappers! As part of the Naughty or Nice event on Protector (Starting on 12/2/11) I will be funding a little friendly competition open to level 50 Scrappers of any alignment.
The prizes will be as follows:
First Place: 1 Billion inf.
Second Place: 700 Million inf.
Third Place: 300 Million inf.
Each participant will take down a Pylon one at a time, and prizes will be awarded for fastest completion in the amounts listed above. There is no maximum number of participants as we have a three hour window to run the event, but only one entry per person is allowed.
Now, there are some restrictions that will be in place. I may have to update this in case I forget anything, but as of now they are:
-Level 50 Scrappers only.
-No Judgement, Destiny or Lore Pets (Interface and Alpha are ok.)
-No inspirations.
-No Temporary Powers (Accolade powers are ok.)
-No do-overs.
-If you're playing a Dark set and you need to gather minions for optimal performance, it will count as part of your time.
-One character per person may enter the contest.
If you're interested in participating, either sign up in this thread, send me a PM, or send me a tell in game- (@Septipheran)
I will be updating this post with a list of participants, just make sure to get your Scrapper over to Protector by December 4th! You should have plenty of time to hold onto a free server transfer.
Thanks for reading, and I hope to see a lot of you at the event!
2nd thing: I'm with Microcosm on this one. Either all incarnate powers should be ok or none should be ok.
Last thing: Good luck with your event and I hope you and your group of friends have fun. -
Quote:Positron responded to this on the Issue 21/Freedom launch Ustream Marathon during the 1st segment.(with animations designed to look like an enemy being grabbed and thrown to the ground, Jiujitsu or Aikido style).
To paraphrase his response: So you have a set with the attacks being throws. Now picture two players trying to use this set at the same time.
It is a continual stream of animations that are being played out without the person being thrown actually in your grasp. It in effect looks ridiculous for much of the time.
Personally I wouldn't mind a set with as much KD as Axe has but without the god awful Lethal damage but I am pretty content as long as I have one fairly quickly recharging KD power and almost every melee set has one of those to use, if not I can take Air Sup. -
Quote:Because for many of us the game starts at 50 when you can min/max out a build and do the kind of things that are fun for us like solo'ing AV's, GM's and TF's? For others the game starts when they can get into end game raids.Without starting a war or anything, can I ask a question? What's the point? If you don't want to level the character (read: play the game), then why build the character?
Just wondering...
I don't have anything against those that like the slog to 50 but once you have been down each path of the content 2 or 3 times it gets old.
Quote:I remember hearing about the ban hammer falling on a bunch of folks who abused AE for PL. I suggest being careful about asking for PL. You and your farmer might get 'tagged' for possible abuse. 'Possible' as in someone actively manning the ban hammer. If nobody's at the helm, then my warning can be ignored.
From personal testing I was unable to set off MARTy with 2 other friends all using SS/FA farm builds that could pre rez xp nerf each get a toon 1-50 in 3 hours. 3 Brutes, Large cave map, each working a different choke point to triple kill speed and we never once set MARTy off. I at this point have concluded that MARTy really is only in game to catch real exploits and that the devs have given us a rather large leash with regard to what they consider "aggressive" gameplay -
Quote:You can talk to him at 35 to start the patron arcs. I was assured by Synapse in Beta that all doors for patron missions taken by characters under level 40 would spawn in Level correct zones.I'm just wondering, will Arbiter Rein talk to you at level 35 now so you can select a patron and will that patron give you missions before level 40?
Running around Grandville at level 40 can be... interesting; unless you have full pve invisibility, running around Grandville at level 35 seems like it could be... terrifying.
There isn't one single foe between the ferry and the door to the Tower in Grandville. Just run a straight line, hop onto the raised platform that LR's statue is on and continue straight ahead. -
Quote:Farsight has 120 second duration and 240 second base recharge. Frankenslotting with 4 def/recharge IO's gives max def and gets the recharge down to 3 seconds from perma. 1 LotG +7.5 will make the power perma or casting while hasten is up will always get Farsight back in time to refresh. Even with some moderate recharge debuffing it won't really be an issue.T
Regarding Time...
To get Farsight up all the time you will need to get perma Hasten and then you need to remember to cast it every 2 minutes.
You do however need to remember to recast every 90 seconds to 2 minutes depending on your recharge like you mentioned and that can be a negative for some folks -
Quote:Anyone with a Traps/anything, Rad/anything,or Cold/anything defender would likely beg to differ. Time/ will soon join that list as people start to get a hang for the set and see how nice the layerd debuffs are against AV's.But you're probably not going to manage with a Defender/Blaster or Tanker... atleast not without massive incarnate style help.
As for Tankers, you only need a bit over 100dps to kill an AV. Toss in an envenomed dagger temp power and you don't even need that much dps. It may take a bit of time for a tanker to whittle down the AV but no incarnate powers are needed as long as you have a decent attack chain. -
Quote:We had a whole thread on this a way back http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=265173scrapper spin base recharge is listed in MIDs as 9.2s, vs brute 14s.

Long story short. Claws is better on a brute. By so little as to not matter. -
Quote:Which enemies in Praetoria?Hello folks.
I have been playing a Beam Rifle blaster in the Praetoria missions. However, the damage I deal is way lower than the description for the powers. Now, are the guys there resistant to energy damage more than other types? I see an attack that lists damage as 40ish but usually do only 30ish.
Please, help me with my beam rifle blaster.
PPD for instance tend to have resistnace to S/L/E from 10% up to 20%
You would need to go down the list here and see who else resists E and how much http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Praeto...rored_Factions -
Nothing from Time's Crawl is set to allow for stacking from the same caster.
This in general is true of not only slows but also most debuffs in the game. Though any power that summons a pseudo pet gets around that by each pet being a different caster. -
Quote:The low levels can go by in 1-2 hours if you hit up the lfg and get on a Death From Below Trial. That might be the most painless way to get done with the pre SO levels that doesn't involve CEBR'ing your way through them.I'm just getting back into the game and i haven't played in ages. I remember the low levels sucking to lvl up at when i last played. What's the fastest class to lvl at the low lvls solo?
If you are just a dedicated solo'ist then Claws paired with just bout anything is nice. You get your bread and butter AOE at level 6 in Spin. It's almost criminal how much fun that is on a brute as you have fury to fuel the damage even at low levels. There is something addictive about dropping most of a spawn in one shot at level 6.
If your more worried about being able to stand up to a wide array of content solo and on a budget then anything /WP is a nice choice as /WP is great out of the box and very viable on SO's.
Putting that together Claws/WP is a great choice but it truly is mix and match with brutes, they all solo like a beast at the low levels and most combos don't ever really slow down. Some peak higher than others but not a one is a dog. -
It was a scrapper complaining that it was making buffs not work. The buffs in question were likely: AAO, Invincibility and RttC. That being said if the OP was tossing bonfire under the squishies then this shouldn't have been an issue.
To the OP as long as your not trying to actively slow down the team I really don't see an issue with it. I do think that if you are not looking for max speed, max kill/min ratio then your are most likely better off forming your own teams and telling people that you plan at moving at a measured pace as the steamroll as fast as possible team is in my experience the most common team out there. -
Inspired by Von Krieger taking out Adamastor I took my SS/FA/Soul out on the hunt for Kracken.
Took 25 minutes and there is no way I could have done it without the Warworks along for the ride.
Next step is to finally tier 4 my incarnate slots and drop the last 5 bil to get the +3 def and -res pvp procs.
I never linked an image up here before so if i screwed this up I beg your pardon in advance http://imageshack.us/f/577/screenshot110928223633.jpg/
I know others have been doing this for a long time and without level shifts, incarnates or pets but it felt good to do this and I wanted to post about. -
Quote:Why on Earth would you have deleted the 50's you had?I used to play quite a bit, but several years ago left the game due to a combination of external demands (work, kids, etc) and lack of endgame content. I wasn't playing enough to justify the subscription, so I quit cold turkey, deleted all the toons and ended subscription. With the advent of Freedom and some endgame content, I'm inclined to start a new character; if it sits for a couple months without being used, there's no guilt over lost fees.
Here's the rub:
The trip to 50 was the whole point of CoH when I played, but I'd like to get to the Incarnate stuff. My fear is that with the limited time I have to play, it will take so freaking long to slog to 50 that I will give up on it.
I was never much for melee, preferring the "thinking" ATs; mainly defenders/controllers/doms. I think it would be a hoot to have a mind/energy dominator blue side.
I know that powerleveling is generally frowned on, and I was never a fan of it as the whole point of CoH, to me, was enjoying the arcs, learning skills and tactics as you add powers, etc...that being said, what would you recommend as the quickest way to get to 50? I'm guessing the answer is the standard "run a bunch of scanner missions and get on teams", but I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks for any insights.
Go to your old home servers forum and post a I'm back thread. See if any of your old mates are out and about in the game. They more than likely have a toon or 3 that can help level you up fairly quickly.
As to the fastest way to level it has and always will be farming. Non exploit farming can get you to 50 in a day.
Since you haven't played in a few years your better off playing a new toon up and getting back into the swing of things.
If you take that route then joining your servers global chat chans and seeking out TF's will blow thru levels at a really nice pace.
