A question about defense

Just had a quick question on defense and how (or if) they stack

*example if I have 30% lethal defense and 20% ranged defense and I get hit with an attack that is ranged and lethal dmg do I then get 50% defense?*

tried looking this up and some of the articles were a bit confusing , thank you in advanced for any help

It only picks the highest defense and uses that. So 30% defense in your example.

No.

In short, the game checks all your defenses and chooses the highest applicable value.

In your example, since you have 30% lethal defense and only 20% ranged defense, the attack has a 80% (50%+30%) chance to miss you (unless the attacker has any accuracy or ToHit bonuses).

Since most attacks have both a type and a vector, it's usually sufficient to cap either typed OR positional defenses, you don't need both. A few psionic attacks don't have a vector, though, and there's no typed defense against toxic (and electrolytic) attacks.

You would have 30% defense.

The game applies your highest applicable defense against the attack.

Against an even level minion with no tohit buff applied to them that would mean you have a 20% chance of getting hit by the attack in your example.

It is impossible to reduce any foes tohit chance to lower than 5%. Some foes like AV's that have a higher base acc mod can only be reduced down to ~7.5% before taking into account level difference.
