Quote:because Granite is exposed to the player as an OVERLAY COSTUME. It basically uses the same sort of costume-overlay tech that backs the Kheldian Dwarf forms. For me, what kills stone is the fuglyness of Granite.
I never understood why they changed all the stone armor graphics but granite, back in the days.
Exposing Costume Overlay Modification to the end user through the interface required more BACKGROUND ENGINE WORK in addition to USER INTERFACE MODIFICATIONS.
The complexity of exposing Costume Overlays to the end user are one of the reasons the developers went ahead and did the power customizations THAT THEY HAD COMPLETED AND WERE READY FOR USE.
If the developers had tried to cover every single player exposed power with the customization system, we would STILL be waiting for the tech to arrive. -
enough players whined about the auto-buff that the devs put the prompt back in.
Rumor has it that Pohsyb is working on a mechanism to add "ask / auto-accept / decline" to the options system. -

Quote:I thought about this. I just went through an SG teleporter 3 times in a row.Radio missions will spawn ambushes, but how a level 35 ambush got to Faultline is the hard part.
Maybe accept a lvl 35 radio mission, then head to Faultline via SG beacon to team up with a lower level team but ambush is already spawned at level 35?
All three times it dropped me off atop Penelope's store on the opposite side of the zone from the tunnel.
Theoretically... Yes, I can see somebody level 35 finishing up a mission, using the SG teleporter vet reward, then taking a SG teleporter to fautlline.
However, an ambush in that situation should have spawned around Penelope's store. In order for them to get from Penelope's place to the tunnel entrance and stay there, the player would have to be using no travel power, and would have had to have waited in the tunnel for a bit, giving the arachnos time to catch up.
So yes, this actually could be a possible answer as to why level 35 arachnos were in the tunnels. -
Quote:If you want AOE damage, spine's has more than Spine Burst / Quills. Throw Spines is a targeted AOE attack and Ripper is a PBOAE cone. So spine's can rip through mob's.And I'm looking to start a new scrapper.
Already decided on one and that's a Kat/SR, but I'm stuck between 2 secondaries to pair with Willpower: These are Fire/ Spines/, looking for something that stands well solo and can also decimate groups when I need to generate Inf.
I know that Fire/ probably has the better single target attacks and that Fire Sword Circle is an awesome mob killer, but does the combo of Spine Burst/Quills out shine it?
Willpower's a good combo with spines for a couple reasons: first the higher endurance recovery helps offset quills.. and Willpower is just a good solid set to start with on the defensive side.
On it's own though, Fire's going to chew through single targets quicker with it's more pwerful single target attacks and stacking D.O.T.'s. If your aim is to hunt Ebby's, AV's, and Monsters, Fire would be the way to go. -
I'm... sort of doubtful that it would be an ambush.
Off the top of my head, no higher-level mission involving Arachnos sends a player to Faultline.
In order for the critters to have been an ambush, somebody at level 35 would have needed to have had a mission in the tunnnels that triggered the ambush, or would have needed to have trained the Arachnos down there from a mission elsewhere in Faultline that spawned an ambush.
Looking in Ouroborus, not one of the 30-39 arcs involve Arachnos. (Defender of Truth and Vindicator)
My first thought would be: something is bugged. -

Quote:If you're going to go through that sort of trouble, make your base Operating System a Linux instead of Windows, and look at Virtual Box. VirtualBox supports OpenGL acceleration atop Fglrx and Nvidia-Glx: http://www.virtualbox.org/Wondering if anyone does this? I'm thinking a fresh install of Win7 x64, setting up VM's for my wife and myself, install her apps in hers and mine in mine, partially for security, partially for the convienence of being able to revert to a snapshot if something goes wrong. Plus my CoX VM would be as bare as possible to help the game run as fast as possible.
Running Win7 x64 AMD X2+ 5800 dual core CPU w/ 4GB RAM, Nvidia 9800GT GPU.
TIA
You can run CoH, and other OpenGL games, atop an Installation of Windows running under VirtualBox on a Linux. It, however, is slow: http://jeremy.visser.name/2008/12/18...-acceleration/ :: http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/475
It however, is not so slow as to be unplayable. -
I'm in the Fortress of Kittytude, working on a brilliant plan to implement automatic ribbon tying into Portal Corp's teleporters!

even with it it's still a "weaker version" of Fire Armor. Big thing with it is that you have to sort of play like an old-defiance blaster. Wait till your health drops really low, THEN trigger the heal.

another vote for Claws / Invuln.
In the case of invuln, I like it because it's relatively tough on SO's, and quite a few powers are passives, so it's not such much of an end hog.
If you are the type to focus on IO builds, Invuln is a good platform to drive perma dull-pain; or with it's defense debuff resistance, a good platform to focus on soft-capping defenses. -
Quote:.... ooh boy.Seems to me like White wins hands down with the foot stomp + the impressively large self heal. But maybe Black has something to offer that I don't understand that keeps it on par or better.
By the way, how does Dwarf form compare to the most durable of tankers? (Stone, Invuln, etc). Does it rank up there with them in terms of tankability, or do voids destroy them?
Also, when you have a nictus in a spawn (or even a white nova or something) does that do extra damage to Khelds as well?
Okay. First thing. Dwarf form is all resistance based, with 37.5% resistance to all damage. If you cap it into ED, you'll be pressing around 70%~72% resistance to everything. This is about the same amount of resistance that Dark, Willpower, and Fire tanks can generate to smashing / lethal damage when taking the fighting pool power tough,
If you've ever played a Dark or Fire tank, you've probably also experienced the fact that these are some of the squishiest tank armors in the game.
To it's advantage, the Dwarf form does come with an HP boost. Dwarf form will also stack with effects from other powers in the sets.
So, a White Dwarf can pop Essence Boost and wade into battle with really high HP cap. I've got a PB at 38, and popping and unslotted essence boost with Drawf lets me stride into battle with 2068 hp. That's better than most Tank's level 50 unboosted HP's.
With it's 6 minute recharge timer and 2 minute effect, you can also concievably make Essence Boost Permanent, as IO boosts remain in effect while transformed.
A White Dwarf with Perma Essence Boost can pretty much keep up with the best Willpower's.
***
However, there's a difference between taking damage... and tanking.
While the Dwarf Form does boost the threat level to 3, this is still behind the Tank's threat level of 4.
All Tanks also get an AOE taunt. White Drawf... doesn't.
White Dwarf only has 3 attacks, one of which is a PbAOE, and White Dwarf Antagonize, to hold aggro with. So, it's really easy to yank aggro away from a PB with damaging AOE's.
The Black Dwarf is a little bit better on the aggro holding front. It has 4 attacks, one of which is a +damage + acc modifier: Black Dwarf Mire. Black Dwarf Mire can be stacked with Eclipse and Sunless Mire, capping it's resistances all the way, and capping it's damage capability.
***
Ultimatly, both are incredibly tough in their dwarf forms, but WarShades are really the better aggro holders with a higher damage output that can make up for the lack of a taunt aura. -
mewit. I knew there was a shorter way to say what I was trying to say. Thank mew.

Quote:I now have this mental image of the Guild Wars team running into the Paragon Studios offices, kegs of beer on their shoulders, hooting like Frat Boys, and carrying BaB's and Nelson around atop Lawn Chairs spray-painted gold.Hey! Just invite the animation team from Guild Wars to come over and convert some of their emotes over to CoX.

War Witch and Castle are locked in their offices, and Positron is accidentally locked in a closet with Empulse. Television and Dr. Aeon escape the madness by hiding on the roof, while Black Scorpion and Black Pebble make for the parking lot to get out of there. Pohsyb hears the racket and peaks out of his cave, then clickly shuts and locks the door as a horde of Toga-wearing Guild Wars Animators dance down the hall doing the macarena. The Ocho walks in from the break-room, cup of coffee in hand, and suddenly has the coffee yanked out and replaced with a scythe, and he's tossed a black robe.
Synapse and Sunstorm drive up to the building, having stopped at the local donut shop, peer at the Kegger going on, winch as somebody starts playing Lady Ga Ga, then they both peel off, the smell of burnt rubber lingering in the air. -
ai. Romi is the not-recluse of Cimerora.
Of the other dimensions that we know about: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Multiverse
Praetoria: murdered by Tyrant :: Emporer Cole had to end the suffering of his best friend
Rikti Earth: no record of Marcus Cole or Stefan Richter is recorded: presumed dead
War Earth: no record of Marcus Cole or Stefan Richter is recorded: Valkerie's weapon and her Praetorian counterpart, Battle Maiden, hail from this conquered dimension, suggesting that Marcus Cole and Stefan Richter are dead.
Zeta Tao 7-63: No record of Marcus Cole or Stefan Richter is recored: Swan's Praetorian Counterpart, Black Swan, hails from this conquerored dimension. One of 17 known shadow world.s
Omicron Zeta 12-20: No record of Marcus Cole or Stefan Richter is recovered: The Freakshow have conquered this dimension. Here Dreck is not so nervous.
Epsilon Tau 27-2: No record of Marcus Cole or Stefan Ricther is recovered: The Clockwork King has taken this dimension. Supposedly there is a human resistance lead by Penny, the only psychic power equal to the Clockwork King.
Hydra dimension: Found by the Rikti instead of the Praetorians. Marcus Cole and Stefan Richter are not here either.
And I could go on and on down the list.
I think I'm actually going to call this the: "Durakken Assumption"
It's the: "Idea that at some point all of the known and unknown dimensions shared a single timeline, and that all dimensional events were exactly the same up to a certain point; and that all sentient entities within those dimensions were exactly the same with identical personalities, thoughts, and feelings as identical biologically or mechanically sentient beings throughout the dimensions."
*oof* That's quite a mouthful now that I type it down.
***
Okay, I'll grant you that there is a fair bit of handwaving on the part of the earlier writers part to gloss over how, or why, each non-Primal-Earth dimension explored by the Heroes is conquered and ruled over by a single entity. Praetoria is the first to detail exactly how, and why, the dimension came under the rule of just one collective.
Granted, in most of those other dimensions, they do feature enemies who possibly COULD take over a world if just one of their plans went right.
I think another aspect of the known dimensions is that Lord Recluse, or Stephan Richter, largely seems to have been created for / fleshed out for City of Villains. Looking through the original developer interviews and available documentation on City of Heroes, the presence of a personal Arch-Nemesis for Statesman really isn't addressed.
Since the Praetorians were introduced in Issue 1, long before City of Villains and Stefan Richter's Lord Recluse were revealed, there was little to no reason for the writers at the time to explain away the lack of Marcus Cole becoming Statesman and the lack of Stefan Ricther becoming Lord Recluse.
It's actually hinted at, that in all of the known dimensions, only Primal Earth, the Reichsman World, and Praetoria are the only explored dimensions where Marcus Cole became a Super Power.
Ergo, it stands to reason that these were the only three dimensions in which Stefan Ricther could also become Super Power, and Primal Earth is the only dimension where he actually succeeded.
However, in saying that, I make the assumption that there is not a dimension where Stefan Richter found the Well of Furies without Statesman, and became a Good Lord Recluse. -
Quote:... ya know. I spent like the whole thread trying not to blame a certain vendor's thermal controls.Laptops tend to throttle themselves when overheating rather than crash like an older desktop would. Fullscreen mode also should be able to take full advantage of the video card instead of having to share it with the rest of windows.
I know of problems where the M17x can throttle when the temperatures get too hot, it is possible that the M15x is also affected. Often the ambient temperature in the room can make the difference as well. This is easy to test if you have air conditioning.
... Yeah. that would do it.Quote:I had not thought of that... I am deployed to Iraq right now and this tiny little A/C unit in my room can never get my room cool enough -
Quote:um.The older 3870x2 cards handled CrossFire directly on the hardware and did not necessarily require games to support it. The 4870x2 and later changed this to require software support.
No. Not even close. Multi-GPU support requires Driver support.
Again, if you don't believe me, download GPUZ, set it to run on top, run your 3D app in windowed mode, and check the GPU usage as you turn Crossfire on and off.
I suggest you check out Phoronix's articles on Crossfire support coming to the 4x00 series cards under *nix: http://www.phoronix.com/vr.php?view=12776
You might also want to read XbitLab's take on Asymmetrical GPU acceleration: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/vid...crossfire.html
And you might want to check out what XbitLab's had to say on NT6's involvement in the development of Multi-GPU rigs: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/vid...b_6.html#sect0
The RadeonHD 2x00, 3x00, and to an extent, 4x00 chips are all based on the same rough architecture, and as a result, share the same basic Crossfire structure. Granted, AMD still hasn't explained why Crossfire support hasn't been backported to the 2x00 and 3x00 series cards, but I suppose they figure that any gamer interested in Crossfire support isn't exactly the type to still be running cards 2 or 3 generations old.... AMD's probably also right about that.
You are thinking of the original Crossfire tech used in the x1800 and x1900 series cards, which utilized external dongles to combine the pictures :: HardOCP review -
wouldn't it just be better to create a central European Access Global Channel, so that nobody has to give up their bases as they have them?
Sounds like that would be the better way to go to stay in contact with active players. -
-
Many names used by the developers are blocked off by the developers.
In this case, you are querying specific origins in the game, as well as potential server names.
As far as I'm aware, the developers have made public the criteria for the list of names that they have blocked out for their use and for the game's internal use. -
Hmm...
I might as well beat Golden Girl to the punch here. Ghost Widow has animated hair, I believe based largely on the trench-coat rigging or the wedding pack's tail-coat rigging.
It would be... nice... if that rigging was exposed to the players as a costume option.
I think it would be... acceptable... if taking animated hair was like taking a trenchcoat, tail-coat, wings, or capes: taking it disqualifies you from having other rigging effects.

Also in animation... something I'd like to see... are more tails. Again, common request, and probably done to death in the art thread.

On the NPC side of things, maybe it's time to go back and give the Rularuu a good once over. I mean, they are supposed to be the game's ultimate npc creature, at least until the Battalion shows up. However, their animations are still largely... early-game ish. For something that's supposed to be the worst sort of enemy you can run into, they don't really animate all that threatening. Rather, they are sort of stiffly animated.
It would be nice if the Wisps would perhaps borrow some of the new movements from the Mental Manipulation set or Kinetic Melee to launch their powers.
It would be nice if the Storm Elementals got some color in their attacks. As my memory serves, they pretty much have the same coloring as a Storm Summoning "Lightning Storm" power.
It would be nice if the Brutes didn't animate like, say, the Lost. However, there's only so many ways to deliver punches, so modernizing the brutes might not be much of an option.

Quote:well. here's the thing.Damit on my internet that is going to take FOREVER. Ah well I'll give it a go.
Maybe I'll just cut/past it some where else that way I have a backup.
It's probably not a driver issue or a hardware issue. If it were either of those, the crash would be consistent across both sides of the game. Since the crash only happens when you access a particular side of the game..
It's got to be a software issue with software that affects that side of the game only. The only difference between the two sides of the game is in the textures and animations that they call forth.
Ergo, something inside your installed game has to be corrupted, is making a call that crashes the system, and it's something that the verifying all files isn't catching.
Now, you might be able to use the Windows Event Viewer to see what caused the crash: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools\Event Viewer.lnk
However, Event Viewer tends to be lite on details and might not net anything useful. -
Quote:delete the entire directory and reinstall. As the title says I am Crashing to desk top only on Blue side and only on teams I have verified files with the updater and rebooted. I am just wondering what next?
I don't have this issue on red side I can solo and team with no problems. Only on blue and I can solo just fine on blue side. But when on a team eather in zone or in mission I crash some times randomly and always when starting combat.
