  1. In PvE, Teleport works too. I've had to use TP to get out of rooms with small doors crowded by enemies. Hint: Shield Bash is a TP. Use it to move past impassable enemies.

In general, the pushing thing bothers me too, but it really doesn't happen enough to warrant doing something about it, at least as a priority. It would be really nice to take a look at this and see if anything could be done cheaply.

When folks zone in and get the "zone-in-pushing bug" (where characters are perceived to push each other after zoning into a new area), is it possible to detect a "collision" and move the characters in a *random* direction? Because right now, everyone moves in the *same* direction. Which results in another collision, which causes another movement, which results in another collision, which etc. etc. If folks moved in a random direction, at least the probability that a second collision results is greatly reduced.

I hope that this could be considered a "cheap" fix to the zone-in-pushing problem.
  2. Yeah, the forums are a great irritation at the moment, and for like about the last nine months too.

The other thing is, even if you log in, the forms don't "remember" what threads you read last. So the "new posts" flag, which bolds forum post titles which have new posts in them, is buggered, and shows incorrectly that some posts have new posts when they don't.

It also misremembers your "view first unread post," which is very annoying. And for longer periods it seems to forget which posts are new, and flags those as "old," the reverse of the problem in the paragraph above.

In short, nobody is terribly please with the forum software right now.

I haven't read through the whole thread yet, but I needed to put my two cents in on your opening statement.

I WHOLLY disagree that these "talky" missions are somehow bad. I like them a lot, and I'd like to see more of them.

OTOH, those two particular missions (Graves, where you get introduced to the Tournament, and Twinshot, where you get introduced to the Supergroup) are long-ish, and about as long as I would want a "talky" mission. I would also probably not want more than one "talky" mission per arc. I do like smacking dudes (*) and the talky gets in the way of this. (**)

I do like shorter "talky" missions. The mission to start the new (on beta) Dark Astoria missions, and there's a tour of an apartment and you talk to the Dream Doctor briefly, using those missions as a kind of interactive cutscene to set a mood and explain what is going to happen next, that's awesome. Using a couple of those in a missions arc to "bookend" the mission and provide story elements, I think that could work.

Also, I haven't tried the new character stories on beta yet, but they sound interesting and cool too. They also sound talky-ish, but that's fine imo.

(*) As Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw says in his Zero Punctuation reviews.

(**) Flambeaux's dialog, however, is hilariously awesome.
  5. I've got enough Astral Merits for one of the new ATO enhancements. I'm thinking of replacing my Scirocco Dervish Chance for Lethal with the Chance for +Res from the new Tanker ATO.

Any reason to not just do this?
  6. Yeah, BitComet is considered spyware by some folks. Does you anti-virus flag it? What anti-virus do you use?

Another thing is Skype is a memory hog. Is it running or is that just the idle daemon?

And it looks like the EasyNote laptop should have an NVIDIA graphics chip, not sure what's up with "Intel HD".
  7. I'm sure someone who know more than me will be by soon; I don't see anything obvious.

How old is the PC? Have you scanned for viruses recently? Have you checked for updated video drivers?
  8. Well, I'm using "F2P" to mean either Free or Premium, which seems to be terminology that most folks use because of other online games.

We do have a hybrid model here, it's true, but especially the Free and Premium players don't seem to differentiate between Free and Premium status. It's all "F2P".

That's kinda what I thought. I'm pretty sure I can enter old SG bases, even though no one has paid the rent in ages. But I haven't tried recently, and I'm VIP.

So it's almost no cost to the OP if he buys VIP for one month only, but he should at least be aware that it might be possible for the base to be completely useless when he drops back to F2P.

My plan might be something like: get to level 22 and slot SOs. Get VIP. Make a base and hit Tip missions hard. Get some nice stuff and sell it for 100's of million of inf (easy to do). Then see what happens with the base. As long as you get some stuff from VIP (like the inf) then it hasn't been a total loss and you'll know too what to expect from a base as Premium.
  10. Right. As long as your base is small and doesn't require "rent" (paid with the in-game Inf) then you can continue to use the base, and I think earn prestige for it as well.

I'm not really up on strategies for bases for F2P folks, though I'm sure that some other people will help you out. I think no rent means that teleporters won't function. But I think any storage (salvage racks, enhancement tables, Insp holder things) will still function, which can be handy.

I don't know if you can edit a base as F2P. You'd need to do this to add more rooms or place additional storage for the base. Might be kinda difficult as F2P, but it might be doable too if you are determined enough.

    Edit:

Really? Past due bases can't be used at all if you are F2P? That would make it much less viable, imo.

This. Supergroups and bases cost real green.
  12. Well, if it is malware, then you need a malware remover. Do you ever run virus checks?
  13. DfB = Death from Below, level 1+ Trial on live now.

DiB = Drowning in Blood, level 15+ Trial coming with Issue 22.

  15. Yeah, I've been told "please take so-and-so off your ignore list." It happens sometimes that someone gets a little under our skin, and we need a break. If you're nice and not consistently mean, then it'll work itself out. No worries.

You could also just apologize to "so-and-so" on X server here too, they might see it, and might some other folks from that server, who might be willing to help you out.
  16. Story-wise, I agree. It's hard to motivate villains because often their motives are so diverse. Heroes tend to be reactive, responding to villainous threats, and therefore a little easier to motivate. Villains otoh tend to be the ones setting the stage, to be starting at least the initial action, and taking into account all of their reasons for doing so represents a fairly nightmarish task for the developers.

I feel your pain, but there's not a lot we can do about it. Two-third's of the player base are heroes, and villains as players have to admit that they're the tail, not the dog. I usually skip the reasoning provided by the contact and just mentally provide my own.

(Aside: a lot of villain-side contend is pretty dry, imo, because it is harder to cater to villains. In the long run, I'd like to see this addressed with villain-side zone revamps. As such, the devs are going to have to swallow part of their story bible and let Heroes over to the Rogues Isles. (It wouldn't make economic sense to re-vamp villain side without giving anyone access.) But that's a long term plan.)
  17. That Mortimer Kal in that outfit would have been "run away" for sure....
  18. Anyone else getting this a lot?

The 13th only gives a few days to work out any bugs before the 2XP weekend, should something creep in at the last moment. The 6th sounds more likely to me for that reason, it gives an extra week to fix anything if needed.

I think a 6th of March release sounds likely. It would give current customers a "head start" on all the new stuff, there's a reasonable bug fix window, and then 2XP will draw a lot of folks in to take a gander at all the new shiny.

Which is stupid. I lost the lead on a 24 person league once to someone who queued up because they couldn't find their way out of Atlas Park to join us.

    So, what's new?

Although if you're F2P, the incarnate system and trials aren't available to you.

The Team up Teleporter is new. Check out the new Death From Below trail, available from level 1 up. It's fun (the first 20 times or so, at least) and is a good way to level up new toons.

Leagues are new too. Now you can have 32 people one one "Team."

    Can't Log In?

I think your NC Soft account log-in name and password are unrelated, and will be different. So you might be using the wrong password for the game.

If you forgot your game password, I think you should be able to use your NC Soft account to reset it.

EDIT: some names *may* have changed. Something about Euro accounts being merged to the NA accounts. Was your account perhaps a Euro account?

Good point, I didn't explain that well. Existing toons won't change, unless you didn't pick anything from the Fitness pool (in which case you just have the Fitness pool added to your build). If your character took any powers from the Fitness pool, there'll be no changes at all, and you'll have to use a respec to rebuild your character. When you do respec, you'll get the Fitness pool at level 2 automatically, and you should be prepared to pick new powers to replace those you chose in the Fitness pool, and possibly switch some slots around too.

Doing a build with Mids first is an excellent idea so you don't waste a respec.
  25. Question: can't you just go to the "Download the Game for Free" link on the front page? I'd assume that it goes to the NC Soft launcher, but maybe that wouldn't work with an existing, older install like the OP's?
