You referring to what kind of pre-paid card?

Title does NOT say it all.

Yup. Game cards are game TIME cards. VIP subscription only. They don't work for buying points. Nothing we can do about it.

What gameboy1234 said.

If you mean one of those pre-paid debit cards, mine works fine for buying points.

If you're not an American, and you're talking about one of those gift card style prepaid credit cards, you may just not have enough on the card to cover the purchase.

To explain, I'm Canadian. If I go and buy a $50 prepaid credit card, and try to buy the $49.95 bundle of points, I can't, because after applying the exchange rate, that's a bit over $50 Canadian - the card won't cover it.

Another possibility is that you're using a type of card that isn't supported by the store. All Visa and Mastercard purchases should be fine, as should be most major American cards. But if you're using a type of card that's only distributed outside the US, there's a possibility that it won't be recognized.

And finally, there's the possibility that the card isn't activated. As a security feature, most cards require you to call a customer service line to activate the card before you can use it. Using it before activating it will cause it to be declined everywhere.

And of course, if you're talking about the City of Heroes and/or NC Soft prepaid game time cards, like others have said, those are good for VIP subscription time only. Onn the plus side, you get 400 points, and a Reward Token included in that, as well as access to a few things that Premiums don't have access to without an extra purchase (for as long as you remain VIP).

I use giftcards exclusively and am having problems with my newest one...it's a vanilla visa.

The visa ones i was getting that activate through mygiftcardsite have never had any problems.

I only mention this because I just saw this happen in January. If it is a gift card the OP is referring to, does it have Visa/Mastercard on it or is it a store specific gift card.

I was in a checkout line a few people behind a woman who went ballistic when she learned that the grocery store wouldn't accept her Best Buy gift card to pay for groceries.

I remember the first time I tried to use a prepaid Visa and I was having problems getting it to work. Turned out I was typing the expiry date in wrong.

Good to doublecheck the information just in case, but most of the suggestions above are pretty solid without me adding to them.

I've personally moved on to paying for the game in other ways, though.

Retailers have been warned recently that in-store gift cards (ones branded specifically for the store, not the actual V/MC/Amex style ones) will not be usable for any online time card purchases due to (insert cryptic reason [no pun intended]) and said time card will not correctly activate.

The only thing you could do in this case would be to use your in-store gift card to purchase one of those V/MC/Amex style gift cards and then turn around and use it to purchase the time card. Keep in mind that there are normally $4-$10 activation fees to cover what used to be administration fees (back when the fees were simply taken out of the card if it wasn't used, etc within a year).

It used to amaze me too.

Then I took a retail job to the knee.
