    stuck in a pit

Is that anything like the pits I would find in the i20 beta? You'd walk into that room (before an ambush) in Praet I think. If you went to a door that was black where the doors should be, then that would be a seemingly bottomless pit. The only way I got out was the Suicide-Squad power I'd forgotten was in my perma-temp list.

    • A Settings button has been added to the Login Screen. THANK YOU!!!
    • The character selection screen text should no longer change colors based on the last character logged in. Can we get the option to toggle between the three initial (Hero/Vill/GR) color sets? If you reload the settings onto new toons it tends to overwrite the color settings too. :-(

    Character Creation / Tailor
    • Added the Classic Steampunk, Victorian Steampunk, and Celestial Armor faces to the Special Helmets category for female characters. Can we get more premade costume choices? Sometimes it's hard to find new costume pieces and having the pre-existing template makes life a little easier.

    Supergroup Bases
    • Base Detail recipes have been added for "Hacked Telepad" (Tech) and "Magicked Telepad" (Arcane) with the same salvage costs as the Basic Telepad but an increased prestige cost.
    • These new Telepads look and work exactly the same as Basic Telepads but support up to 6 Teleportation Aux Beacon connections - meaning one pad can link up to 6 zones. *cracks knuckles and opens base editor* Anyone got a Dew...or 5?
    • Arcane Base Telepads now correctly take players to Echo: Galaxy City instead of Destroyed Galaxy City. See, they get to the little things when they can. ;-)
    • Corrected the visual appearance of the Grandville and Pocket D Supergroup Teleport Beacons. Thank You!

Lots of QoL upkeep going on here, Yay!

Having any extra system bootup processes is normally not prefered as they tend to be the root to many boot issues. I can see where you'd want it up so that the updates go during idle times, but honestly most patches don't take all that long to download and update. That and you still have that one last game-boot-time update doublecheck anyway. I usually just open the launcher once every so many days or when I've read in here about an update. You could probably get away with checking every Tues/Thurs and be safe unless you're running Beta/Test as well, then it'd be on a more random schedule. Do as you wish, we're just trying to save you the bigger headaches.

  6. Re-reading everything it was definitely the motherboard. As for your thermal paste, I found somewhere online that some people suggest different methods for different chips. It's been a while, but it had something to do with the physical location of the coprocessors on the die of full speed CPUs and less powered ones like the celerons.
  7. I can't tell if you said this has been done yet, but try the board w/ CPU and PSU only. If it still powers down, then it's the board. If it seems to come up, then it's the RAM. As always, make sure the power plug is attached. :-p

  9. For those who aren't very squeemish w/ registry, the following keys relate to game resolution:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cryptic\COH\screenX\144 0
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cryptic\COH\screenY\900

    My native rez is 1440x900.
    Common resolutions are: 800x600, 1024x768, 1920x1080

You can manually do the same for both Test and Beta accordingly.

Windows "auto-install" simply goes through it's onhand driver database and is only as smart as the programmer who designed that specific system. Even with the microsoft online driver database option, there tends to be an iffy situation with devices created a significant amount of time after the OS was released. Even Windows Update has been known to install drivers that aren't optimal for your device simply because it thinks that newer is always better nomatter the tested stability.

I just happened to pass by while running errands and dropped by on a whim. Well that kinda sucks, game updates have been known to introduce "interesting" issues, but there's got to be something else going on.

Also, I discussed with people at the UPS store..I didn't know this, but there is now laptop cooling trays that plug into the usb ports..I am so getting one in a couple of weeks.
Heh, instinct always prevails over logic (well, atleast until Tex steps in and info-smacks me). :-p

While I agree with Ironblade's sentiment about always having a backup, fixing hardware shouldn't require a drive wipe and they're kinda required (I forget why, but in general) to warn you ahead of time anyway.

My secondary/backup laptop will arrive tomorrow because of a similar (known) issue with nVidia chipsets and HP laptops. Since it was outside of the warranty period anyway I went ahead and had this NYC company (PC Pitstop) do their GPU insulation thing that involves adding a copper plate to the existing GPU heatsink. They do a reverse blow of the system, pulling out all the builtup dust and (if you want) manually set the system fan to Full-On so that the combined effect is a system that runs upto 20deg C lower than normal.
  15. Even hole in the wall mom'n'pop stores should allow for exchange and if they don't I'd recomend pushing the issue a bit. It's not like you bought software, burnt it to CD, and then tried returning it. So long as you're exchanging for same type item they shouldn't hassle you since you're likely doing an even value swap (IE: no money back).

The easiest way to eliminate a root problem is to run this:

    Del C:\*.*

Oh you have one of Those kind of computers...I wonder if the GPU switching is causing the problem then. Is there any setting that allows you to keep the nVidia on during the entire session of windows (IE: To keep it on before the launcher is loaded all the way until after you close the game for the nite)?

I can assure you that quite a few costume mods are floating around, or at least used to be some years ago.
Weird, not all of the replies had shown up for some reason...NeWay, I had no doubt that Somebody got bored enough to tinker to that point, but it's never come up in a conversation I'd ever come across of to date (not a major surprise there :-/). As Agg's pointed out, I was refering to the fact that said mod would have to involve a client-side only effect that likely involves the Data folder. Honestly I don't see the point as I've seen some barely-there costumes in-game during one of the many costume contests I've observed. :-X

Because the game likes to think it gets the entire 2Gb of memory even if a system only has 1.5Gb allocated to software.
