    Poison

Yeah, I have always harbored a strong, unnatural love for the Poison set, and yet I loathe the way it interacts with Mastermind pets. Long have I dreamed for it to come to controllers, though I can't explain why.

    Fire/Poison, Illusion/Poison, and Earth/Poison ... I choose YOU!

I will prob skip Plant/Poison due to it being "too obvious" but it will certainly be cool to confuse a bunch of dudes and/or knock them down with big slappy vines, followed by puking all over them, then standing on top of them emitting debilitating toxins from your body, all followed up by a FIREBALL!

Well, dang. Plant/Poison ... I choose you TOO!

I'm sure the other combos with Poison will each be interesting in their own way but I don't think I'll consider them.

  2. All,

I have wanted Storm/Fire and Dark/Fire forever, and recently I've wanted Traps/Fire. Of course, those can be done as Corruptors but for some reason I favor being a Defender. Not sure why. And now, Fire/FF is a possibility, but the devs mention that eventually Corruptors will get FF. But I want my fire now.

Man I can't decide! Its driving me nuts! Anyone else?

If you were gonna pair Fire Blast with Storm, Dark, Traps and FF as a Defender or as a Corruprtor, which way would you go for each combo?

    Can't decide.

    So much FIRE!

  3. All,

I believe that I read from this week's ustream overview from a forum poster that the developers mentioned that Force Fields would come for Corruptors a bit later at some point. I have always wanted to play Fire Blast in conjunction with Force Field, and now it has been announced that Defenders will get it. However, the devs also said FF coming to Corruptors is at least in the works. If I interpreted that comment correctly.

So, should I have my cake now, and make a FF/Fire Defender? Or since FF offers no way to boost your own damage, should I wait the 6 months to a year (my wild guess) in the hopes that I can make Fire/FF later and get the benefits of scourge and a bit more damage?

I guess you could say this comes down to the old conversation about Defenders vs Corruptors, but with FF being a bit different than other sets (no self damage buff) I am wondering what your thoughts are?

I was able to use Mids to make a FF/Ice defender, and in terms of powers and set bonuses I modeled it exactly how I'll build fire (skipped the holds, picked up 3 ranged attacks and 3 targeted AOEs and Aim) so I know exactly what numbers I can get. With the villain epic on a FF/Fire Defender, I'd be looking at 57% S/L defense, 63.5% Energy, 51.8% ranged and 49% AOE. Making some very crude calculations/approximations, I believe a Fire/FF Corruptor with the same build would be about 46% S/L, 53% Energy, 45% ranged, and 42% AOE.

So I guess I'm wondering .... go hardcore defense on FF/Fire or wait a bit and have adequate end-game non-iTrial defense but a bit more damage?

I tend to favor Defenders usually, and I'm wanting FF/Fire *naow* so I'm leaning Defender but I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on this conundrum?

    Thanks,

    Lewis
  4. I like the addition of SR/ to Tankers ... and man that is so weird typing SR/ instead of /SR. Freakin' me out, I do declare!

Anyway, I was trying to figure out where I might put a Titanic Weapon user, and now I think I know. I'll hold out for Titanic weapons so I can have a SR/Titanic monstrosity.

    Lewis
  5. Actualy I think I like the force field fire blast idea. I wish corruptors had ff but hey.

    so many choices. Darn game.

    Lewis
  6. Well hot darn. Nice.

I will make 2 or 3 poison controllers for sure. Fire, illusion and earth. I may make a storm or traps defender with fire blast. I love that energy aura exists for scrappers but wish we got ice melee to pair with it. Guess ill remake my lowbie dm ea brute as a scraper maybe. Tankers get super reflexes? Freakin weird. I have done most sr pairings to high level so will hold out until I can do sr/titanic.

Stalkers dont interest me much but would love ice armor on a scrapper. Maybe ill try an electric ice stalker. Unlikely. Nothing else interests me personally villain side tho I predict some katana fire brutes. but nothing else for me. Tho a thugs threebox trio with 2 sonics and a thermal seems juicy.

I wish controllers had got traps or that scrappers had got ice melee but oh well. What we got was nice.

  7. If you want to experiemce control sets, earth/fire is a good starting build. Lots of control, lots of damage. It would be a decent way to ease into control sets when coming from a more aggressive background (your previous at/character choices).

    Lewis
  8. I certainly dont expect any proliferation but it would be nice. The ones I want most are:

    Force field for corruptors (ice/ff).
    Illusion for dominators (illusion/fire, illusion/energy).
    Radiation emission for masterminds (necro/rad).
Ice melee and energy aura for scrappers (ice/ea).
Fire blast for defenders (traps/fire and storm/fire).
    Traps for controllers (fire/traps, earth/traps, elec/traps).
    Poison for controllers (fire/poison, earth/poison, illusion/poison).
    Dark miasma for controllers (fire/dark, illusion/dark, earth/dark).

Hey ... A guy can dream.

  9. I know this thread is fading, and my computer with Mid's planner is far from here but I happen to have some exports saved as text files, and I happen to have a Fire Storm build.

Maybe it will help, maybe not, but here ya go.

    How is Stone/WP?

    All,

I have a brute concept for Stone/WP. I like Stone Melee, but I'm used to playing it on a tanker. I know that it might not be ideal on a Brute, but I'm wondering how Stone/Willpower will work. Will killing guys be tedious, or will I still lay down the SMASH!?

Here is a sample build. I'm only level 3 or something so I haven't done much with it. I'm just wondering what people think of it (at least for those who don't automatically hate on Stone Melee for Brutes outright because of the mitigation and Fury interaction).

    Thanks,

    Lewis

I just realized I answered your title question, but none of the ones in the actual post. So here goes.

    1) I can think of a ton of concepts that make sense with conventional weapons sets but not with titanic ones. Any speed-based characters, for instance. Now, you could *have* a concept of a speedy rogue/assassin who happens to wield (or dual wield!) telephone poles instead of daggers. But then we get into issues of what one could reasonably even mean by "don't make sense" when you ask it.

In fact I'd go the other way and say that about the only 3 concepts that this suits are giant anime weapons that couldn't actually work without also having super strength; and makeshift weapons or Giant/Troll-forged weapons that you need super strength to wield; and possibly human-normal great weapons such as polearms if they throw us a bone and have a few non-ridiculous weapons. So I think your question #1 is backwards.

There are almost no concepts for which I consider Titanic Weapons suitable, except for a very few genre-specific ones.

    2) I have a lot of characters with weapons. As I discussed in my previous post, I won't be changing any of them because titanic weapons don't make sense for any of them. Here is the list. I won't be including Stone Melee, Fire Melee, or Ice Melee characters even though they have some effects that resemble weapons.

Black Mask ... Dual Blades / SR (Scrapper, 50)
Street Vixen ... Katana / SR (Scrapper, 50)
Shark Lord ... Battle Axe / Invuln (Brute, 41)
Sister Savage ... Claws / SR (Scrapper, 50)
War Devil ... Broadsword / Invuln (Scrapper, 22)
Jack of Wands ... War Mace / Shield (Brute, 37)
Wild Apple ... Claws / Willpower (Scrapper, 50)

None of these make sense with Titanic weapons for various reasons. Black Mask wields daggers exclusively. Street Vixen inherited a magic katana which forced her to help the sword repent for its former wielder's crimes, so the shape of the weapon is locked in and specific. Shark Lord is all about showmanship and being the center of attention himself, so a large weapon would overshadow his wrestler/Elvis style costume, and besides, the axe he wields is the one he killed his stepfather with, so it is the only axe he ever uses. Sister Savage uses claws, and if the idea of replacing a simple mace or sword or axe with a titanic weapon for no good reason doesn't make sense to me, you can bet replacing claws with titanic wrist-stilt claws would make no kind of sense whatsoever. Same for Wild Apple. War Devil uses a simple Broadsword, but one could argue that a War Devil could just drop the little sword and use a big goofy anime sword, but of course with that logic, he could simply do anything, even be a controller, as long as he looks like a devil. As for Jack of Wands, even if you can use titanic weapons with shields, dropping in a 9 foot long, 2 foot across war mace in place of his rather mundane simple mace would pretty much ruin the character.

So no remakes, but there is the list of characters.

    3) I have not yet been given any new ideas, because none of the weapons they have shown so far fall into ideas I would pursue, except the giant railroad crossing sign, which as I said in my previous post, I view the wielding of such items as a temporary activity done by characters with Super Strength.

So no new ideas yet. Lots of ideas and hopes for characters I've always wanted to make though, but the problem will be whether they give us any "normal" titanic weapons. I'm thinking that they are going for the anime vibe and/or Super Strength guys wielding weird stuff they picked up like what happens in a comic book.

All of my ideas are things that I would be surprised if they will give us, simply due to the fact that while in reality they could be viewed as large, they certainly aren't titanic (Pike, Guisarme, Naginata, Quarterstaff, Tetsubo).

So there is my more thorough response.

  15. None of my existing characters would be improved by changing them over.

    a) I tend to dislike the anime style of massive weapons, unless the character has super strength, and in that case, I would just roll super strength.

    b) An exception would be a massive two-handed mace, but I didn't have any characters that I made that I settled for a normal mace. My one mace character *should* have a normal sized mace.

    c) I do have lots of stone melee characters, but I picked that because they have a background of manipulating stone and earth, and so at no point did I pick Stone Melee when what I really wanted was a 2-handed mace or club.

    d) Whereas you were thinking "big weapons" I guess, after reading your post, I was thinking "big makeshift superhero weapons like telephone poles" due to some of the weapon graphics they showed. Now, I tend to think, in a comic book of super-strength makeshift weapons as being a side effect of super strength, so any character I would make with such makeshift weapons actually fit better with Super Strength, despite the inability to pick up cool stuff and hit people with it.

So frankly, I'm not sure what I will do with this set. I definitely will not be re-making any. As to whether or not I'll make anything with this set, or rather what I will make with it (since I will at least make one to try it) ... well it all comes down to what weapons are provided.

I think massive two-handed weapons are cool, such as maces and axes and war clubs and what-not, but I fear that for my tastes, the ones they make may be a bit gaudy for my tastes.

There are 5 weapons that I hope will be available. The existence of these 4 would guarantee I make 4 characters, even if they all have the same set. These weapons I want to see are:

    1) Naginata ... I so want to make a Naginata/Super Reflexes fox spirit girl in flowing robes.

    2) Tetsubo ... I have always wanted an Oni based character who wields a massive Tetsubo.

    3) Staff ... I am not sure how much a staff works with the animations, but I want one.

    4) War Spear / Pike / Lance ... I want to make a Diablo 2 style pike maiden in a huge way.

    5) Polearm ... there are more types of Polearm than you can shake a guisarme at, and in fact some of them would fall under the option above, but any and all polearm type weapons would be appreciated and I would for sure make some kind of palace guard footman armed with a polearm, who in a magical malady while he was protecting his queen, got sucked into our world.

So there ya go. No swapping, but many hopes for new stuff!

  16. Stone / shield is a delight to play, but your endurance bar will hate you.

This is a very smashy build, fun to play, lots of soft control with knockdowns and stuns. Shield charge makes up some for the crappy AOE. But get used to sucking wind. I always struggle with endurance.

    Good times.

Cold shields make me dread this change slightly. I hate them. I am in the "would rather be booted off the team or dead rather than seeing everything obscured with busy ice" camp. But dont let fools lile me ruin your fun.

  18. I am definitely gonna play my FF and Thermal masterminds some now. I was already playing my FF controllers some and this makes me want to unshelve my earth thermal and earth kin controllers.

I dunno if I could ever do a FF defender but I would consider it now. I wish they would proliferate FF to corruptors since I would LOVE a Fire FF corruptor.

  19. I enjoy street sweeping and hunting explore and defeat badges.

I enjoy playing "paper dolls" ... Basically I love the costume creator.

I enjoy farming and power leveling (giving or receiving) because I find it relaxing. Also because I love implementing builds I have planned.

I enjoy a few story arcs but not many. I basically never do them anymore at all unless an arc really fits a character concept.

I like newspaper and scanner missions the most. They are relaxing and easy and dont suffer from difficultt bloat (or creep) like all the new content does.

I find tip missions borderline. They suffer from difficulty creep and in-mission objective tedium.

I dislike trials and task forces almost universally. I find the ITF and the BAF and Katie Hannon to be tolerable (due to repetitiveness, simplicity, and speed respectively) but otherwise loathe all such content.

    I loathe PvP.

  20. It probably won't matter to anyone, but I agree entirely with the OP (AmazingMoo). Which I don't always do. Of course, people will just continue to kthanksbye and etc. Pity.

I feel ya, Moo, I feel ya.

I've decided to just get my +1 level shifts on a few 50s, and pretend the new incarnate stuff and gated rewards don't exist.

  21. I have a level 50 Mind/Storm. I've always found that the variety of different types of control, even when they don't have great synergy, will keep the bad guys bewildered, off balance, and vulnerable to being taken out or severely weakened. So, I say go for it. I loved playing mine up. But I will say that I didn't specifically focus on positional control or map tactics so much as I just focused on chaos and/or alternating and/or mixing different types of effects.

  22. Thanks for all the various follow-ups. I appreciate them.

    Enantiodromos: welcome back!

  23. Woof.

Will we be able to transfer Empyreals and Astrals between characters under the same master account? Because I have about 20 level 50s and I've been spreading my runs around all of them. I also tend to knock out a ton of runs in one day, and don't you only get 1 Emp per incarnate Trial per day (2)? Most of my alts that unlocked stuff have 2 Emps each. My main that I pushed and did a lot of stuff has maybe 12 Emps on her, if that, because I was unemployed for a while so I stacked in 5-20 runs a day for a week or so.

Basically, I don't have much to show for what I've done so far, due to spreading my focus around on my alts, but pressure-running them all in one sitting when I did. Kinda frustrating, even from the perspective of knocking out 1/7 of a set on one alt and 1/7 of the same set on another alt, etc.

Oh well. I'm lucky in that I consider all the costume sets too gaudy for my tastes, and at least half the other stuff too.

  24. @OP: brilliant idea, mate. I can't wait to see the results.

  25. Yeah, I'm not planning to pick Ice or Stone mastery or whatever. Leviathan all the way. I was thinking more of ranged/AOE def anyway, not S/L.

I guess I'll just go for recharge. I currently do pretty well overall with more or less no def and no global recharge as it is.
