Been Gone A Long Time - New Toon for a New Start!

So I stopped playing a month or two after GR came out because of school and other commitments taking over my life, but now that it's summer I have some time to get back into the game

Anyway, I wanted to start a new toon but was having trouble deciding on what to make. Previously, I leveled a scrapper and brute to 50, but also really enjoyed my fire/fire blaster. I know I definitely want to try a new powerset, so I was mainly considering Kinetic Melee or Electric Control. If I go Kinetic Melee, I'm pretty sure I'm going to go KM/nin stalker, but I am slightly worried about the viability of that build in teams =/ . In terms of Electric Control, I really have no idea what I'm going to do since I've never really played either Doms or Controllers, but I'm definitely willing to give it a shot. I was maybe considering an electric/psi dom.

It seems like there's more to do in the late game now so I'd like my toon to be viable for all of that stuff too (I'm still kind of fuzzy on the new late game and incarnates and what not - does CoX have raids now or something?)

Any help would be appreciated thanks xD

Wow, that's a loaded question at the moment... Indeed we have an endgame. Multiple threads exist though so I'm sure you'll see the info.

If you've never played a controller before I might suggest something other than Electric. Electric Control is a beast of a set but does take some finese to use properly. I've found having a background knowledge of what controllers are expected to do and not do helps when playing Electric. With the sleeps being a tad more tricky to use than your standard AoE holds. Still EC is a wonderful set so...

In my mind, Earth and Fire are the perfect introductory sets. Nice strong holds mixed with utility lets you learn the ropes without too much failure, i.e. AoE immobs before the tank has aggro, holding minions instead of Lts etc etc.

I personally haven't played Corr past level 12 so I won't comment there.

Kinetic is best on Stalkers. All my stalkers are strictly shadow assasins that prefer to work alone so I can't testify to team performance. As for the set itself. Make sure you get and incorporate Siphon asayc. The set lends itself to a king fu/ elemental/ wind master concept to me. I will say by level 32 I was pretty tired of the sound effects though and subsequently stopped playing him shortly after.

That said. Welcome back!!

Thanks for the help . I hadn't realized that the end game was such a contentious area...time to power up my search-fu haha.

Does anyone know if you can still use Lightning Rod with Hide up without breaking hide? I remember you used to be able to use LR to blink in, then follow up with an auto crit Thunder Strike from hide.

I cant comment on the stalker debate, as I've never managed to level one higher than lvl 15 (nor have I tried either KM or ElecMelee), but I can talk about the Electric Control. I've tried multiple Controllers/Dominators, and generally prefer the former to the latter. However, with Electric Control, you might prefer it on a Dominator (I do). The Dom gives you a blasting/melee mixed Assault secondary which helps with the damage being dealt.

While you lose the extra damage that the controller's Containment brings, Domination brings it's own bonuses, with the additional magnitude bonus to all the hold/immobilize powers, and a free refill of the End bar.

As for Electric Control vs other primaries, it depends far more on "soft" controls, such as sleeps and end drain while Earth or Fire (as suggested above as a more newbie friendly set) deals more with stuns and slows, which do not break as easily.

yes, the above still holds true.

and KM is sweet, especially so on a stalker, with AS taking the place of an oft skipped cone attack. some hate the sound effects, i love them, they only got better as i gained in levels.

and as far as trollers/doms, i like em both, and don't think you need a graduate degree to use them. for electric control, i prefer dom, paired with elec or psi, yummy sappy goodness!

Oh yeah, that was the time that girl got her whatchamacallit stuck in that guys dooblickitz and then what his name did that thing with the lizards and it cleared right up.

screw your joke, i want "FREEM"

Have you considered either a VEAT or a HEAT? I know I enjoy my Fortunata very much right now on the new trials.

If you want to experiemce control sets, earth/fire is a good starting build. Lots of control, lots of damage. It would be a decent way to ease into control sets when coming from a more aggressive background (your previous at/character choices).

I disagree -- I think you can pick up Electric Control without too much trouble. Yes, it's not a 'beginner' set, but it's not terribly complicated either. Not that playing, say, an Earth/ controller wouldn't give you useful background, either. It's really up to you.
