Quote:Would you consider watching them online equivalent to being there? As Night_Hornet has stated, I to think that it is unfair we have to pay the same amount as the Americans, but get less content, less interaction (developer->community and vice versa), less player slots, less servers and worst of all; empty zones even in peak times.

I've got nothing against our Euro brethren, and personally I'd be all for finding some way to improve their experience. I'd play on Union or Defiant. Heck, I'd play on the German server and practice my admittedly-horrid Deutsch. But the idea that NCSoft *owes* you better service rankles me. They provide a service. You pay to access it. Your recourse, should you not think the service worth the money, is to cease paying for and using it. I know that sounds callous, but that's capitalism for ya. -

Wow, so *not* where I thought this thread would go, but entertaining nonetheless!

Quote:Yeah, we men are like that. Or so my wife says anyway. My main villainess isn't evil so much as she's chaotic: a rogue Amazon who discovered that she didn't mind the company of men all that much. She left chasing her fantasies, and found the reality disappointing ...
Ahem.
Tyrrano - Not so much evil as a big dinosaur. The Hulk, but with teeth. (I'd love to be able to run his slider to Jurrasik-size) So yeah, destructive, chaotic, but not really evil.
Nepharyte - His basic goal is to return the world to the Primal Darkness that spawned it. He doesn't want to *rule* the world so much as completely erase it (and himself) from existence. His tools are former humans twisted by his necrotic technology into grotesque mutant zombies. Hrm, yeah, that'd pretty much peg the Evil-o-meter.
Eden Raith - A succubus who devours life essence and considers humans as cattle. Not quite in Neph's league but still not someone I'm inviting to tea.
Speaks With Wind - A native american shaman, he's not evil at all, but the earth/earth dom set fit the concept, so he's waiting for side-switching.
I have a few other redsiders, but they're not really fleshed out enough yet to say evil/not evil.
And just because I'm an equal opportunity villain...
Inquisitor Malthus - my AR/fire blaster. Dedicated to stopping Nepharyte and his minions at any cost. Unfortunately when that cost includes accusing and "interrogating" innocents, she's proven to be quite OK with that. Where another 'hero' would try to cure the people twisted by Nepharyte's horrifying ministrations, Malthus will simply put them out of their misery to prevent them from carrying the taint. Some folks think that the citizens of Paragon are running from Hellions? Sometimes they're running because Malthus is walking down the street.
Is she evil? Yeah, probably so. -
I happened across this while reading a blog on Architectural Record's website. Thought you lot might find it interesting, too.

Some days it surprises me that computer-based gaming works at all. There are *so* many things in the pipeline that can mess it all up. Consoles are so much easier - no eleventy-billion different rig configurations to deal with.
I think many of the issues around i17 are little things that have managed to raise the 'good gaming threshold' just enough to cause a host of problems for folks who were hanging out just under that threshold before.
That could also be a part of the reason why international players are seem to be experiencing a greater number of errors. -
Quote:My favorite band is from England. They're not horribly popular, so they no longer play to big stadiums. And they were never very popular on this side of the Atlantic. Still, I pay my money when they release new music. I should have just as much opportunity to see them live as someone living in England. But no. If I'm lucky they come a couple of times a decade, usually to someplace like Montreal. Mind you, that's about a 25 hour drive from here. That's hardly fair, now is it?As Night_Hornet has stated, I to think that it is unfair we have to pay the same amount as the Americans, but get less content, less interaction (developer->community and vice versa), less player slots, less servers and worst of all; empty zones even in peak times.
Unfortunately, life is rarely fair. -
Quote:Most of those have simply asked folks to lay off bashing you. Only a few have expressed a real agreement with your premise.Well, after a little tally (ignoring distinctions such as level range), I count 26 people that agree that there may be an issue to look at, and 26 that disagree.
50%. Is that an insignificant number?
For instance, did you assume I disagreed with your assertion and count me in the '26' that disagree? I quite pointedly expressed no opinion on it - I simply stated it looks like you got an answer. -

Quote:That in and of itself tells me it's probably at least partially your end. Even if there is a problem at some level in a CoX server/ISP/etc., if it's only happening to a small percentage of clients then there has to be some portion of the problem stemming from the client. If the issue is not on our side, I cannot explain why more players are not experiencing it. ... I can only speak for my own computer and tell you that my system seems to pick up on issues that most other players never experience or notice.
Quote:Last year, I tracked a small amount of animation lag, that nobody else seemed to experience, to a problem with one of CoH's east coast Internet Service Providers. Everybody was like "it's your system. it's your connection. you ****ed something up." and the CoH techies finally got back to me with "uuhm, yeah... one of our ISPs has the hiccups. nice catch. have a free month of game time."
(I ask because my lovely wife can literally stop a quartz watch dead simply by holding it in her palm for a minute or so. Every time. It's strange. And trust me, her computer does really weird things when she uses it, especially if she's already upset or frustrated - things that it never does when I'm trying to debug it.)
Quote:For now, all we can do is send them bug reports with our information and system configurations and hope they are able to compile enough data to track down and resolve the problem once and for all.
As for the original problem, the only times I've ever experienced this behavior it's always come down to a low memory condition. End result of one of the memory leaks discussed in other threads, perhaps? -
Quote:I'm in the exact same boat, but I find that being up-front about it works. I tell teams I'm on that spousal aggro and/or child spew/breakage/ambulance is always a minor possibility, and if I happen to go AFK I'll either be back in a few minutes or I'll post a brief goodbye and bail, depending upon the circumstances. Most teams are cool with that, and if they aren't I can always go back to soloing.Soloability is a big draw for me in this game. I dont like to burdan a team I am on with constant afk's because my son has decided to feed the pet fish to the toaster/etc. Appeasing my wife is another one. If I can't drop the game in an instant without letting the team down, then I can't team. Beside's it is unfair to the team.
Now doing a TF is another thing - I won't sign up for that unless it's late enough that the kids and wife are all asleep and I can reasonably expect to finish and still get up for work the next day. Which explains why I've managed all of three TFs in 3 1/2 years. -
QFT. Tell your friend there'll be a few prayers said for them tonite from our house.

Quote:If you spend a lot of time building/tweaking your SG base - are you a "nester" or perhaps an actual architect in RL?[/QUOTE]
Quote:I almost became an architect, and I find myself stifled by the base editor. -
Lots of good advice in these posts. I'm actually an architect in my 'day job', and as you might expect the office interiors bug the livin' fire outta me. As for the buildings themselves, more variety and realism would be an improvement, though I agree that Faultline is *much* better than the older zones. More mixture of architectural styles, and how about sloped roofs on something besides warehouses? How about other large 'public' buildings - certainly a city the size of Paragon has a football stadium? A racetrack? A bus depot or train station (besides the Yellow and Green lines of course)
Feel free to PM me and I'll drop you my email address. I'd be happy to give specific advice almost anytime. -
Something about the 'farm' areas in Croatoa is very appealing to me.
Still love the Ski Chalet. -
I actually saw some CoX time cards last week at a local gas station, of all places.

Quote:Yeah. Replace your video card.I just installed the CoH Client, and when I clicked play, this came up:
Your card or driver doesn't support GL_ARB_texture_compression
Anyone know how to fix this?Actually, it's possible that new drivers *might* enable it, but I wouldn't hold out much hope.
Incidentally, I ran into this myself trying to play on a laptop from work. Mighty frustrating. :x -
I usually manage to do this mission as written. Kill her spawn, back up a bit to get away from the next group. Destroy some ambushes as they come in. Then move on. I always pull the next spawn to me - Jane never seems to run off ahead when I do it that way.

Well, the first page and a half of this thread were entertaining.
Quote:Urrr, Thor = Norse deity. Valkryie = handmaidens of Thor's father. So why minus the 'Nordic diety stuff'?Valkyrie I always felt, had a backstory that always reminded me of Marvel's Thor, just minus the Nordic diety stuff.
Heh, I lol'd. -

I was reviewing my fire2 build earlier and comparing Combustion and Burn. Seriously considering switching to Burn at my next respec. If Mids is to be believed, it does considerably more damage for less END. Am I reading that right?

Quote:My wife is having it done next month. Mind if I give her this little tidbit to toss out there?II distinctly remember the surgeon walking in and asking me, "So how do you feel today?" I told him, "Who the hell cares how I feel? How do you feel? Be up front with me. Did your wife leave you this morning? Did your dog die? Because I want you to be really comfortable and happy while doing this procedure." He was appropriately amused an assured me that he and his wife were happy and his dog in good health.
Quote:Little tip for anyone considering lasik. If you go for it, the day of your surgery, wear a sweatshirt.
Quote:...The only bad thing about the experience was the nasty antibiotic eyedrops I had to use for a couple of weeks.... I'd do it again in a heartbeat and highly recommend it to anyone considering having it done.
Quote:I hope they come up with a similarly cool cure for presbyopia before I get old enough to need reading glasses.
As for me, still rocking 20/12 in my good eye and 20/20 in my 'bad' eye at the ripe old age of 43 next month. Hopefully I can stave off the downhill slide until the presbyopia fix is in and just get it all done at once.
Quote:Also, I'm too freaked out by sticking things in my eyes to wear contacts. No way anyone is getting near my eyes with a laser scalpel.I think the chances of permanent eye injury are less in a lasik procedure than the chances of a hailstone hitting your glasses and driving a shard of glass into your eye.

Quote:I'm afraid my first thought was, if your new laptop doesn't have a CD drive, chances are it's not gonna be up to running CoX anyway. Hopefully for your sake I'm off the mark about that...Yes, I recently got a laptop for my gradutation that does NOT have a cd insert slot, so I have no where to download the game from, so when I went to download the one off the my account page, I get an error everytime that says I shoudl ask fora new version or something?
