Agent Standin would tell me, " Okay. But Mot is running amok at the moment. I have people to rescue and evil to pound."
Serenity Dark would say, "Until that day comes, there are still innocents that need protecting. You do what you can to save this multi-verse, I'll take care of protecting the innocents in it." -
Mercedes Lackey is already one of my favorite authors.

Quote:Understandable. I'm sure your friends would have understood the interruption of the "our time" moment in order to help save Paragon City.o.0
And TT, I have struck up random conversations with folks before, but here's the thing... I was sitting there with my girlfriends who are not gamers in the least bit. They're not prudes by any means, but it was "our time" together, if that makes any sense.
The scary thought to me is, the steampunk costuming community is rather tight. I've been to a couple of their events, and counted maybe 50 actual costumers (maybe even less). I just can't help but wondering if I'm gonna spot them at one of those events in the future.

Quote:I have actually done that exact thing before. I overhear people talking about a subject that I am familiar with and I will occasionally chime in with a few facts. Especially if they are wondering what is happening with something or other. Then, I wish them a pleasant day and go back to what I was doing. Usually, it's playing Sudoku on my phone...or reading a book on the kindle app on my phone. Nothing wrong with interrupting other people's conversations and providing helpful information. you never know, you might make new friends that way. Although, looks like you made a new friend your way too.
Obviously I couldn't just up and say "Oh hai, sorry for evesdropping, but I'm a gamer here in town, and I have a friend who is a costumer that specializes in steampunk and renaissance. Maybe we know some folks in common. Oh, and I assume you've heard the news about CoH? There are some petitions going around, it'd be great if you would toss your voice in by signing them."
No, no that would be waaaaay too awkward, right? -

Quote:Even when I disagreed with arcanaville, which was very seldom, I have always had an extremely high estimate of her awesomeness. You know, after all these years of reading your posts Arcanaville, I thought I had a pretty good estimate of how awesome you are. Now I find out that I was off by an entire order of magnitude. Wow.

I sent you Agent Standin. I play him more regularly than I play any of the other 100+ characters I have. Mainly because he usually runs with a small group that meets up every Wednesday for Agent Night.

from you in a few days. Who are you and what did you do with the real Golden Girl?
I do appreciate what you are doing, by the way. Even if we didn't always see eye to eye in the past. -
Quote:If the entire player base donated $1 a person, I think they'd have somewhere in the area of $9,000,000.00 give or take a few thousand. I'm sure that most of the player base could afford a little more than $1 too.And there's always crowdfunding. We've got a number of people here who said they'd pay up to $1,000 just to save the game from death.
Even if nobody pays THAT much into it, there's still a lot of us who'd be willing to contribute even just a small amount.

Quote:Dear Universe, whatever good luck, positive karma, or anything I might have... please give it to Paragon Studios. My job search can wait... it's just me and John. But some of the developers have families, and I'd rather they be taken care of first.
Kay? Please? Thanks.

I mean, giving up your luck despite needing it to find work, for the benefit of others would insure that Karma would grant you more good luck. Which, in turn, would go straight to Paragon Studios, causing Karma to grant you more good luck...etc.
You go girl!
Quote:If however, it does come to something, i25 should include some sort of TF or story arc that reflects the events in it. It's almost like a classic comic story where the main hero loses his powers and has to fight on to defeat an aggressor anyway: "
Do you, honestly, see our developers not giving out an account wide badge if the game does manage to survive? -

Quote:That is my situation as well. I tried Guild Wars (not II) several years ago. I didn't stay with it for long. I've tried WoW, LotR, and a few other MMOs. Didn't stay with them for long either.I'm not really boycotting NCSoft per se. They just don't have any other games in their stable I really want to play.
I think my problem is that I am sick and tired of "Yet, another fantasy based game." that I am unable to maintain iterest in any of them for long.
CoH is the first Superhero MMO that set the standard for the genre in MMOs.
Plus, I like being a Superhero!
So, I have no interest in playing any other NCSoft games. My boycotting it would be a moot point.
Quote:This.
It's true.
It's also been my complaint with companies in general, but it's how it goes.
Want to quit? Give us 2 weeks notice.
We want to lay you off? We'll give you a days notice.
Most I ever had on a layoff was 1 day notice that turned into a two day notice "Oh. We need you for one more day, so we're going to lay you off in two days instead of tomorrow."
They do this because workers (generally) will slack off once they know they're being laid off. They'll be to busy fretting about a new job, sulking, just not caring anymore, and some if they have the ability, will use those paid sick days.
I was pissed at how I was treated through out the whole ordeal. But, I can see their reasoning behind those policies. However, those policies are probably part of the reason they had to implement those policies in the first place. Is that like a paradox?

Quote:SciFi has been airing End of the World shows for several years now. If its not "global Warming" its "Giant Meteor" or "The Core of the Earth Stopped Spinning and We're All Going to go FooP!" or something. But they've been showing that stuff for years.Time to start the one year countdown clock until the big end of the world party. Woot!
Expect numerous 2012 disaster specials on History, Discovery, TLC, Science, SciFi and slowly creep into mainstream channels as filler, panicking the population into a self fulfilling prophecy.
Now, the Discovery Channel, I like their hypothetical "What Would Happen Over Time if All the Humans Just Mysteriously Vanished" shows. Only they can come up with something like a Flish, a tree swinging Octopus, or a mind controlling mold.
Ok, them and some guy that really would like to write for a SciFi show. -

Quote:Just because The Flash died saving the universe from the Anti-Monitor, didn't mean that the Crisis was averted.Ok there's got to be a sting in the tail of the WWD arc. That's plain now, especially given the confirmation that Ol' Faceplate buys the farm in Ep 5.
We've got two subsequent issues to go and the fact the news is breaking early (ok many of us guessed it.) is clear there's got to be an even bigger reveal at the end of the tale, otherwise a huge percentage of the story's just hogwash that'll fizzle out from nowhere.
So what is it? What's the big news?
Let's get the speculative juices flowing -
Dangit!!! I didn't get to see all of that episode of The Twilight Zone.
The Chronicles of Amber? I haven't read that series in 20 years... -

Quote:Just because some people have higher standards than others in an industry, does not mean that the industry cares about quality. If some folks have higher standards, and they're in the industry, then clearly
the industry *does* care about quality.
If your first statement is true and the industry does not actually care about
quality, then clearly their standards are not higher.
When I was in college, taking programming classes, the instructor told us about one programmer he had the experience of being employed in the company with. That programmer, in stead of using a looping bit of software to run the same function 100 times, actually wrote 100 instances of the same function. All because he got paid by the line. 100 lines of repetitive code nets him more cash than 5 lines of code that would do the exact same thing.
As long as the program worked, the customer was content. Despite the fact that the programmer was bloating the code needlessly just to make more money.
Now, I'm not saying that Paragon Studios is like that. I'm just saying that you can't say that an industry cares about quality just because some people that work in that industry have higher standards. It all depends on where those people are placed in that industry and how much leeway they have with deadlines and costs. -

Quote:Just last week I logged onto a character that I had created but never finished the original tutorial. He was still in the original tutorial. completing the tutorial will give you the same choice between Atlas Park and Galaxy City. Of course, if you go to Galaxy City, you'll be auto-magically rezoned to Atlas Park.I have an odd, (to me at least), question to ask. If anybody, back when the original Paragon City Tutorial was active, had left a character logged out in it? What would happen to that character? What I mean, is, would a character that is still logged out in that Instance, even be able to finish it? I don't have any characters that are logged out in that Instanced area, but, if anybody does, and they tried to play that character, what would happen?
Short answer: Yes, you can log onto a character that is in the original tutorial and still be in the original tutorial.
