  1. I was looking over my power descriptions on my Energy/Energy Brute, and it looks like the Taunt aura and -Recharge penalty on enemies from Entropic Aura are both gone. The -Rech is listed among the other effects in the short effect list (as "Foe -Recharge"), and both the -Recharge and the Taunt are explicitly mentioned in the description, but neither effect is in the Detailed Info section.

So is the Taunt aura still there and it's just not listed for some reason, or has this been changed? (Or was it never put in in the first place, outside of the I21 beta?)

That will effectively put both to bed nicely.
Beacuse, as far as I'm aware, they're not removing both characters from the game. Yes, our characters can beat them, but they're not being deleted from the game like Statesman is.
  3. What's also baffling is that they killed Statesman, but the alternate Marcus Coles introduced don't look to be going anywhere.

So Statesman is a relic of some bygone age, best left behind and forgotten, but evil Statesman? They're just fine and dandy, and will be plaguing our characters for months if not years to come.

Is there a hidden message (maybe even hidden to themselves) that they remember Jack more as a tyrant than as a statesman?
  4. Even Energy Melee is perfectly usable. It's the "worst", but it's only the worst in that one set statistically has to be the worst. (In this case, the main problem is that its most powerful attacks - Total Focus and Energy Transfer - animate very slowly, and Energy Transfer also damages the user, but the set will keep your targets stunned a lot of the time, so it has its advantages)

But, yeah, for a beginner, I'd definitely suggest Willpower for a defensive powerset (assuming you start with a melee type), regardless of what attack powerset you go with. I'm having fewer endurance issues with my Super Strength / Willpower Brute than any other character I've ever had, and it has nice well-rounded protection (a bit of Defense so attacks won't hit at all, a good deal of Resistance to reduce the damage you take when you get hit, and lots of Regeneration to quickly heal back any damage you do take).
  5. That's exactly what stood out to me the most... Brutes do aggro management almost as well as Tanks do, so why is Brute lumped in with Scrapper as "only" a damage dealer?

In fact, that's the main reason I like playing Brutes more than Scrappers: thanks to Pokevoke in the primaries and taunt auras in the secondaries, opponents are far less likely to run away.
  6. Flight. Followed by Quick Recovery.

Yeah, something combat-related might seem more appealing, but, really, how many times do you get into fights every day, compared to needing/wanting to go somewhere (and avoid the traffic on the way) or just plain getting tired?
  7. Dumb question, perhaps, but have they said what "removing Statesman from the game" actually entails? Most notably, does that include AE? Or will he be left in as part of his "memorial"? (I'm guessing the latter, because I imagine the former would screw over a lot of arcs, but I haven't heard it said either way)
  8. He was to the people of Paragon, even if not always in practice.

It's like Superman. He's not the holier-than-thou "boy scout" that everyone believes him to be, but everyone continues thinking of him that way all the same.

And during the Death of Superman arc in the comics, the criminals of Metropolis rejoiced when they heard that news. Street punks who formerly surrendered at the mere sight of Superman were ready to fight Supergirl to the death. They didn't even care that there were dozens of heroes in town for Superman's funeral, they simply didn't consider them, even collectively, as much of a threat as Superman on his own.

So, yeah, saying "Who needs Statesman, when we have lots of heroes to replace him?" is like saying "Who needs Superman, when you have Blue Beetle, Green Arrow, Aquaman, Plastic Man, and Booster Gold to replace him?"

He is NOT Jack Emmert. He is the leader on which the game is based. I know that this is 'just a game'...I know that 'things' change. But, unlike real life and fate, this is one thing that is controllable. I will never understand why eliminating Statesman seems to be so necessary after seven years. No one can ever replace him for me.
    Yeah, exactly.

He's always been the face of the game. Even if he hasn't always been written properly or well, he's been the top hero that all the other heroes look up to, the one with the rivalry with the head of Arachnos, the one who's been front and center of just about every loading screen. He's the equivalent of Superman - not only to DC comics, but to comics in general.

The symbol for heroes is Statesman's star, just as the symbol for villains is the Arachnos spider. He represented the entire hero side of the game.

And, while I've had plenty of heroes and villains as "sidekicks", following me around on various missions, the one I found most exciting - the moment I felt like my character had really "made it", like I was really in the big leagues now - was when Statesman was the one following me around, after I'd just rescued him from Pretoria.

And now they just killed him off. The Justice League just lost its Superman, the Avengers just lost its Captain America. Who will replace him? Who's going to be the face of the game now? Not Hawkeye/Green Arrow, or Quicksilver/Flash, or even Iron Man (especially not an Iron Man in rusty-looking puke-green armor). They don't have that sort of gravitas.

Even the devs don't seem to know, since the I22 loading screen still has Statesman front and center.

So, to sum up: no, sir, I don't like it.
  10. I'm guessing that dragons aren't considered "beasts" because they are almost always (especially in recent decades) presented as intelligent individuals with forceful personalities (and often with magical powers and/or skills), rather than as simply animals. Fin Fang Foom, Jade Dragon, even one-shot Malcolm Drake - those are the types of dragons who show up in comics.

Sure, there are still "pet" dragons in some stories, but if the devs are going to include dragons at all, they should make them individuals, not just part of an animal-summoning power.
  11. Add my vote for A and C, as well, especially C. (Plus the "larger brief pattern for females" I mentioned in my previous post up there. I mention it again it only because I just edited it to change the links into pictures and add more examples of what I mean)
  12. Since I like to make Golden, Silver, and Bronze-age style characters in both genders, I'd like to see female bikini bottoms that aren't so... skimpy. Something like Silver Age Hawkgirl or Bronze Age Wonder Woman (probably the most well-known example), rather than the thong-like bottoms in the game now.

As it is, it's tough to make a leotard or leotard-with-leggings costume because the briefs pattern doesn't meet up with the top. Even a belt doesn't always cover the gap, which looks even more ridiculous.
  13. When I first saw that Beast Master screenshot, I thought it was just an elaborate photoshop job. Now that I know it isn't, I think I'm more excited about that set than anything else, even though I know it won't launch right away.

Between the vanity pet, the transformation travel power, the tendrilly Dark Wolf, and now an entire animal summoning set, they're really putting that four-legged rig to good use.

Also, I like the new Big Bug enemies. I'm surprised it's taken them this long to re-use the Arachnos Tarantula rig (if that is indeed what it is) for a new insectoid monster.
  14. Yeah, it's tough to know why there's a problem with the costume unless you tell us what the costume is.

You can't use the Bolero with wings or a cape, though, so that may be the issue.
  15. The thing is, you can do it cheap (by simply continuing your VIP subscription and waiting) or you can do it fast (by purchasing a whole lot of Paragon Points right now, regardless of whether you're subscribed or not), but you can't do it fast and cheap.
  16. They're all just a little too.. "busy" for my tastes. I think they'd look a lot better if the bright colorful bits were confined to shoulders, gloves, belts, boots, and hats, with maybe a bit on the edge of the "kilt" armor, and leave the majority of the chest, arms, and legs a single base color (black or brown). Right now there's just too much going on there, design-wise.

Were I to use those pieces, that's exactly how I'd use them - gloves, boots, belt, and/or shoulders, but not all over.
  17. Villains don't need to switch sides to get access to APPs. They unlock automatically at level 41. (Soon to be level 35)
  18. I admit, I like Weapon Mastery from a concept perspective (Shurikens and exploding Shurikens are the closest you're going to get to Batarangs and exploding Batarangs on a Scrapper or Stalker), but ... I also admit to never having used the set, so I don't know how effective it is outside of concept builds.

And... that doesn't at all answer my question.

I asked whether the devs had to re-animate every single power to work with the other non-standard idle and movement animations, not who worked on something or when.

Just a note: if they spend $10, they become Premium players. Free players are ones who have never spent any money on the game.
  21. I remember being rather disappointed by Grandville when I first got there. I was expecting something more like Nova Pretoria, but instead Grandville seems to be the Fort Darwin area of Mercy Island all over again, with a big central "base" surrounded by slums and burning buildings, only the base is larger and uglier and harder to get around, even with Flight, and the surrounding area is more polluted and dirty, with a dim red sky even in the middle of the day.

I wanted Grandville to be more grand. It should look like Lex Luthor's gleaming skyscraper or Dr. Doom's grandiose castle, not a slightly-larger slum.

    I'm kinda confused myself...

Did the devs re-animate every single attack in the game to work with Ninja Run's new idle and running animations, then re-re-animate them again so they'd work with Beast Run's new idle and running animations?
  23. I suspect forms being locked out of Pool powers is as much a problem with animation as anything else. (To take an extreme example... Bright/Dark Nova trying to use Jump Kick?)
  24. You can set the launcher to quit immediately after opening CoH itself. That's how I have it set. I just click the CoH icon, it opens the Launcher long enough to launch CoH, then it shuts again.
