    Any ideas?
You do understand that "the willpower ring" concept is, as you say, a ripoff regardless of if you think it is a complete rip-off or not. Both are still copyright infringement as we can clearly see it has to do with the Green Lantern and related Green Lantern Corp which are the intellectual properties of DC Comics. The same DC Comics which is working on their own MMORPG and would be more than willing to sue our game just like Marvel did. So please, follow the EULA and Rules of Conduct.
I'm not even sure why you brought that up other than to confront the issue about creating copyright infringing characters.

I made it clear that I wouldn't help players that were doing this.
Clearly, you do not want my help.

If you would have gone about your post without clearly pointing out the copyright infringement issues, I would have been more than willing to help and do know alternate words that are or imply Green.

Also, I created this thread to help players with naming issues and set up some rule to follow, which you have ignored completely.

    Thanks for playing. Try again.

    ---
Though I do appreciate other posters trying to help with this thread, I don't appreciate the fact that some of you are helping a player that is intentionally trying to break the EULA and the rules of the thread.
I know that some don't care.
I just wanted to make it clear where I stood on this, and that it is NOT my intention to help players find names for characters that are infringing on the copyrights of others.

  3. I don't want to see inf sold in the game period.
RMT's are breaking the EULA by selling it.
Players that buy it are breaking the EULA by doing it.

Giving the ability to players to buy inf in game empowers the wealthy in real life to be come wealthy in-game immediately.
Those that are poor and real life then take a hit from the economy changing in game by allowing others to buy inf with real world dollars.

My subscription gives me the same rights in game as anyone else.

Selling inf for real world dollars just opens the can of worms. It solves nothing.
RMT's also offer power-leveling (as a means to get your info so they can steal form you and use your character for RMT'ing), so then there is selling levels for real world dollars.
    Then what?
Sell enhancements for real world dollars?
Sell badges for real world dollars?

Allowing multi-boxing is bad enough. The EULA says that there are to be no bots or mechanized game play. Multi-boxing is certainly just that.

Selling Inf seems a great win for the wealthy. It does nothing to stop RMT'ing - it will simply modify their illegal service.
If you want to play a game where you can buy your way to a win, there are plenty on the market.
City of Heroes is not one of them nor do I ever want to see it become one.
  4. If you have other characters and you are trying to theme play this character, do not be persuaded not to.
I didn't have any characters with the Presence pool. I have so many characters that I finally said - I haven't tried that yet, I'm going to do it.
So my dark/shield scrapper has the first of the two Presence Pool Powers that is more like the scrapper Taunt (Challenge I think), the single target fear, and the AoE fear.
Since it is a dark/shield scrapper (the dark shield effect is really cool), the character already has a fear punch and a fear field.

That being said, my view of the fear effects of the Presence set is a bit warped.

Needless to say, when jumping or Sheild-Rushing into a group of foes (especially if they have been Taunted by someone else), there are a lot of enemies quivering in their boots.
I jump in and unleash Invoke Panic. After that it's fearing as part of the attack chain. I switch up targets if an particular enemy is causing trouble for the rest of the team. Between the fact that I'm beating on them, fearing them, and minor-taunting them -I can pretty much stop them from bothering whoever they were bothering.
I have a lot of fun with it when I play that character.

[Edit :: I'm not suggesting that a cat should carry a shield.]
  5. I'm assuming you are on the hero side.
The Natural trainer is in Founders Falls in the sewer system under a building.
It's a contact - Agent Six - If I remember correctly. You will have to run a mission for her before she will sell you stuff. I usually take it and drop it.
If you need help finding her, post what server you are on and I'll head over and help you find her.
  6. I'm against merging the markets.

As I have stated before, I think that GR's dimension should have it's own markets and currency.
The the most balanced world, I'd like to see the characters striped bare going into or coming out of Gr's dimension.

I understand why the villain side wants to have access to the goods in WW, but why would the hero want the tainted goods of the black market?

Influence and infamy are meant to be two diametrically opposing characteristics. I don't understand why the two should be merged into something that only means currency.

Face it. The villains are earning infamy for wrong-doing. They shouldn't be rewarded with benefiting from the heroic actions of others.

If your villain wants access to the hero market, you'll have the option of following the strait-and-narrow path in GR and proving that you deserve to earn influence instead of infamy - and, by doing so, earn the right to trade at WW.

This is, in fact, an old debate that started going on long before the board mergers on the NA side of the forums.
  7. I think that this is a great offer.

I don't know if I'll move anymore characters. Only really moved one that bounced around a couple of times.

I ended up buying some slots for Xmas. So I still have a 3 slots left and 1 open on Virtue.
Though it is tempting, I don't think I'll be using the slots to make room on other servers or the one on Virtue in order to move 4 of my characters off of Freedom even though I rarely to there to play any more. It would be abandoning the others that would be left there.

If moving a character moved the slot with it, I would be tempted to move all my characters off of Freedom. Too bad I couldn't move the sg along with them too.
  8. 5 mission arc - very long. I suggest bringing teammates. Level restricted so that custom creatures aren't too powerful or too easy to defeat if played by characters within the suggested level ranges.

  9. I still have free /respecs as rarely ever respec a character, but, with all my alts, I can live with a "mistake" that the character might have made earlier in their life.
So this kind of exchange would do nothing for me.
  10. Didn't the Space Station and something else hi-tech win the new zone Polls a while back?

I never remember a Roman zone winning a poll, but we have several magic/fantasy/ancient zones on the Hero side - let's get something hi-tech going on for the next zone.

I agree that the villain side could use some different flavor zones aka non-city.
I, however, don't play over there much.

I had thought that the space station was going to be a co-op zone, but it seem to have been forgotten at any rate.

I'd rather see dinosaurs than vikings at this point.

    Not the case.
A high number of plays isn't an assurance of anything other than the arc having been played many times.
The high rating are only a matter of many players giving the arc high ratings and few players giving low ratings. Some players simply give everything they play a 5 star rating.
I'm not sure that Dev's Choice, Hall of Fame, or Guest Author arcs can have less than 5 stars - once they have achieved that status. That is to say Dev's Choice and Hall of Fame arcs have to have been 5 starred to be selected for that status; I'm not sure that they can lose that status or slip in the ratings once they have achieved that status.

LOLBAT was done by a Guest Author I believe, so it didn't need to get any plays to be where it is in the listings. Guest Author arcs are automatically at the top of the list.

Check out the intro text on arcs. If it looks like a cool story worth playing, then you have a higher chance of enjoying the arc.
Use of the Search option for key words helps me a lot as well.

Watch out! for the red warnings at the bottom and pick your arcs accordingly. Extreme is just that - be careful.

Also, watch for missions that are set for levels 1-54 with custom critters.
Normal enemies are supposed to scale properly across the level ranges that they are part of.
Custom critters don't change powers to match their level (as far as I can tell). So what is a challenging for a level 50 is pretty much impossible for a level 10. Also what is do-able for a level 10 is a push over for a level 50.

Experiences can be both very good and very bad. It can take some digging to find a good one, but I find that finding that good one is worth the digging.

    lol.
I guess you didn't get the point.

It isn't the matter of having the ability to travel the zone. It's a matter of speed and convenience for getting back out of the zones or to a trainer.
  13. I used to use the old ghetto tp when my char are under level 10 too.
I haven't been in the Hollows much lately, but I would still use it Kings Row to get back over to the trainer quickly.

I'll back the use of Self Destruct.
Very nice for getting alts to the Hospital for Day Job parking. I never used it for transport to a trainer, but great idea!

[EDITTED after reminding myself what the thread was really about!]
  14. Sounds like valid option/mission objective that is missing from the MA.
We see it used in the "normal" game, so it is obvious that we should be able to use it in our MA arcs.

    Sighting Confirmation
The first one I saw was when the /petition system as down. I figured that they - the RMTs - had a window of opportunity to get away with their nefarious behavior.

And yes, in Atlas on Justice - in WWs and then I followed the character into the AE building in Atlas because I wanted to see what they were up to and use the /batsmash on the scum - which provoked /e evillaugh and /e dance from the RMT'r. It is clear they know what they are dong is wrong.

I used the ignore spammer function to ignore the spammer. As the /petition system was down I went to the website and lodged a complaint there.

Luckily the petitions systems are back up. At least I hope they are still back up! http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=207288

    Reporting RMT Spammers
Remember using the Ignore Spammer should be followed by a /petition.

You can ignore spammer by left clicking on their name in the chat window and picking the Ignore Spammer option.

    /petition [charactername]

which includes why you are petitioning : examples::
[charactername] on [server] [side] related to @[charactername] said [copy] [paste] [textfromchatwindow]
    -or
[charactername] on [server] [side] related to @[charactername] is an RMT spammer for [webiste]
I'm using [] to indicate variables and operations.
Click on the Harassment/Conduct button at the top and then send.

You can get the RMT's global (aka @[handle]) in a couple of ways. I use the Add Note feature that you can get from clicking on their name in the chat window. You can also get their global handle by typing /getglobalname [charactername]

Report RMT spammers by using both Ignore Spammer and /petition
Before this gets out of hand again - yes, you need to do both :: ignore spammer and /petition. Regardless of what any other players end up posting here, it is clear from the past that the DEVs want us to use both the ignore spammer and /petition functions.
I can guarantee that a Red Name
isn't going to show up for a while to post in regards to doing both these steps. When/if they do they will say they need both. When a thread like this pops up it might take days or weeks for the DEVs to post (if they post) to verify the procedure. That is always what has ended up happening in the past; 1) some players posting that both aren't necessary and 2) If/when the DEVs finally post the indicate that we need to do both.
Some may think they are helping by saying only to do one or the other, but all they are actually doing is helping the RMT spammers avoid being banned or, at the very least, slowing down the process.
This goes on pretty much every time this subject is brought up.

So if you are against the RMT spammers, don't complain about doing both steps. Do both steps and let's get them out of the City.
They faster these two steps start happening from more players, the faster something will happen to stop the activity.

Do your part to help stomp out RMT spammers in the City.
They are villains and they need to be stopped!

    RMT Spammer Behavior
Huh? now why would an RMT spammer think that their most profitable area would be in Atlas in the AE building or in WW?
I can conjecture on this, but I think it is pretty clear actually.
Just ask yourself why players that would be in either location would be more willing to break the EULA to purchase illegal in-game inf in the AE in Atlas or the WW in Atlas as opposed to other locations in the City?
I really think that the DEVs need to be asking themselves this same question.

Okay so Why were you at the Scene of the Crime?!
    Oh, why was I there?

I have to admit, with bases on most servers, I have characters parked in the zones used to pay base rent because I'm a bit lazy at times.
I was actually solo-ing an AE story arc mission with my character in this instance as well, and it makes me feel bad about using the AE building in Atlas.
The problem is that it shouldn't. I should be able to run my own AE arc anywhere in the City that I want to if my suggestions aren't taken into account in regards to this matter. Those suggestions would have impacted my ability to use the AE there, but it would have also impacted the reason that the RMT spammers are there.
I get critical a lot, but it is because I love this game. The DEVs have implemented not only some things that I have suggested but tons of things that other players have suggested.
However, I do feel that those suggestions would have curbed this kind of behavior as it is occurring now.

It doesn't make me feel bad about being lazy and parking characters there to pay base rent.
Zoning does take time, and it's easier just to run across down from my last Day Job parking spot than it does to zone into the 0-bus, to Atlas, and back to where ever. I already admitted I'm lazy.
However, this chance occurrence that I logged into a character in Atlas to pay the once monthly base rent and running into an RMT spammer seems to indicate that this is an RMT hotspot.
I'm glad I logged in and caught the RMT'r in the act. I always take time to use both steps to ignore spammer and petition RMT spammers.

    Gravity Geysers

I strongly suggest skipping the geysers and using the raptor packs.

But, honestly, people just never went to the Shadow Shard too much period. The geysers were one of the big draw backs. I - among others - posted that something needed to be done about this zone because of the issue with the geyser and suggested the flight packs as a way to get around there as the zone was easier to navigate for those with fight and those with teleport self (which I always though required the use of Hover to make functionally usable).

Any kind of additional movement speed into the geyser can effect your geyser travel path - and that includes Swift and Sprint.
Like I said, some people used to swear by them. I always thought that they were a pain in the butt.

I don't know anything about these green lines on the maps. I've never seen them. Maybe I didn't notice them, but I was just running Shadow Shard arcs not long before the Winter event hit - and I don't remember seeing them then. I'll have to go back and take a look.
  17. Considering the fact that the game has been made progressively easier to play and to level since release, I see no reason to make the enemies during general game play to be made anymore difficult.
I miss some of the chaos and difficulty that there was when the game was originally released. It used to be hard to get across zones at low levels as you would encounter foes that could one-shot you. I remember turning a corner in Steel Canyon to head toward the rail with my level 12 blaster and coming face to face with a level 42 Malta robot - awesome to see as it blasted me into the next Wednesday. I remember jumping over a fence to get to a mission door with the same character and getting gunned down at the mission door by a bunch of level 15 or 17 Outcasts!
Those ambushes aren't left running around in zones any more. The Outcasts near that door are like level 9-10 now.

If you would like to make the enemies more difficult to defeat in both build and by the use of triggered events and/or ambushes - the AE allows you to create missions that do just that. Then play those missions. You can enjoy the increased difficulty, and the players that were having a hard time with the original content can play the easier game.

Honestly, most teams that I've been on recently are running at 0,0 or 1,1.
I was on an upper 20's team running on +2,2 and several of the people on the team complain saying that it is impossible to run a team of 8 on +2.
Seriously! I told them that I do it all the time.
Then they said that the problem was that some of them were 19's.
Seriously! So I told them that I also ran teams with sk'd up players all the time at +2 and that it was just a matter of using strategy.

If the AE was smarter it would just mean that foes would attack you when you aren't ready and/or foes would team up on you.
In most cases that means that the squishes will end up getting the worst of it as the players won't have a chance to Taunt the smarter foe before they attack. The AT's that can take a hit won't take as much alpha as the damage is spread around to the AT's that can't.
Which comes to the point that a smarter enemy would know to take out the squishes first at any rate and concentrate all their fire on them to begin with.

So, I think that smarter enemies are generally a bad idea for a game that is built with AT that are intentionally out of balance with one another in order to build team synergy.

  19. [continued from Champions Server Forums Event thread]

So I zone into Justice and start trying to round up friends that might be getting home from work in time to do the second event.
I have some idea what I think will be going on because I was at the event on Champion. I am, however, now on the hero side of the fence and a level 43.
After getting locked out of Ouroboros because I was only level 10 on Champion. I try to prepare.
People are already grouping up inside of Pandora's Box in Steel. No orange name there yet, but I don't expect one for a while as I know I left the event in Champion still in progress - though I could no longer be a part of it.
/b Get your level 25+ characters for the Event and get an O-bus if you don't have one.
There's lots of chatter on . My friends start showing up. There is some talk about a bio contest, and people start flooding out of Pandora's box. I recruit some more to the team.
Someone on broadcast says that the DEVs were delayed a bit more. No sign of a orange name in Pandora's Box.
/b anyone seen any sign of an orange name out there?
/b another player <--- get out here's it's going down.
Exit the Pandora's Box into a dogpile of PC's and Carnies. Mapserver disconnect. Bumped to log in screen.
Note - there was no Red Name announcement that the Event has begun. Nothing on the Admin channel - see post on Champions forum.
I log back in. Get re-invited to team. Bumped back to leader. Start buffing and firing through other characters as I'm a support player.
    /team teammate<--- these guys are level 54's
    What?
I check - yes. Level 54s. My team. I'm level 43. My team is level 43 or below.
    [sarcasm]Great!? Really Great!?[/sarcasm]
    I fly to nearby building.
    /hc Carnie invasion in Steel!
/b Looking for a level 50 to pull up our team level!!
We get help from a 50. Promote them. Head back in the fray.
/b NCsoft_Neivenne, Head to Atlas my children. They will never stand a chance. ( -- or some such)
    No Admin channel info.
/t is that really an NCsoft person? Is someone trying to distract us?
All the other teams are heading out, we are massacred by the Carnie. I guess I was the distraction.
[sarcasm]Great.[/sarcasm] Round 2 isn't going anything like round one did in Champion.
So we hot foot it to Atlas where the lag is incredible.
Somehow I quit the team while trying to buff them. I get reinvited
I'm a ranged character and I have to get too close to the action to even target the foes.
After the second time at the hospital I stop to buff everyone that comes out with shields. Other buffers start doing the same.
Some AV is buried in a dogpile on top of Atlas City hall. Five zillion characters are piled on top in a wave of incoming heroes replacing those face planting all over the top of City hall.
Somewhere in this the level 50 with the star on our team has dropped and we are now level 39 against these level 54's or whatever they are - all purples again.
I scramble and get the person with the star to get another 50 on the team into the leader position.
Carnie are everywhere - which means Carnie Illusionist and Master Illusionist pets are swarming all over the place.
The AV apparently falls and responds several times.
Characters are falling left and right!
    The humanity!
Then like a sky not-turning-blue-from-sickly-pea-green, the event is over.
    What the heck happened?
    ---
    Critique
    This was very haphazard.
The Event invites all. These were level 54 Carnies running around. (Which is what lead me to believe that the powerless slaughter that happened on Champion also involved level 54 Carnies - See the Champions Event thread for the horror story of that dreadful day). This was not event for characters of all levels. The Rikti, Zombie, and Banner events all work without the critters being level 54, so maybe this was just bad planning.
The beginning of the Event was not announced on the Admin Channel (as it had been on Champion). It wasn't like the Event on Champion so it didn't involve standing around waiting for someone to usher us to a party - inside of Pandora's Box. There was no warning that it was happening outside of Pandora's Box (see above. I had to prompt those outside to inform us that something was going on).
Now maybe this was a rushed changed due to the issues that characters below level 25 had with the Event on Champion. I don't know.
Was it fun? More fun than being ambushed with all my powers grayed out!
More fun than sitting around for over 1/2 hour to join an event and then get locked out of it because my level was "too low" for an event that invites all to participate(See Champions Event thread for more details)! Less fun than fighting a giant monster, Rikti invasion, Zombie Apocalypse, or Banner event. Very frustrating in general, but once I was involved I did not want to leave in hopes there would be some redeeming value in the whole experience. I didn't come away thinking that I would like to participate again.
    ---
    Conclusion
    I like DEV run events.
I think that they are good for the spirit of the community.
I don't think this one was handled well.
They need to be announced on the server Admin channel; it was done on Champion. It wasn't announced on the Admin channel on Justice.
Regardless of my dislikes, I would like to see more DEV run events. I have no doubt in my mind that they will improve with each event.
  20. So here's what I found went down.

It seemed to be a mystic based event so I brought in my only magic origin character on the server that turned out to be a villain.
Villains were to meet up at the Magic Vendor in Cap Au Diable and they did.
The event was announced on the Admin channel in bold red letters - so far so good.
A Carnie strongman arrived with an orange name - which I can't recall - and ranted at the group for about a half hour in local.
We were told to turn off stealth powers.
Eventually, it was announced that we were going to a party.
First my team fractures. Odd I think. Only I and about 3 others are on the team remain (I'm assuming all the higher level characters were yanked from the team, but I didn't think to check at the time)
    We break up and reform.
Pretty soon, we are carted off to the Oroborus in a piece-meal fashion.
Soon we are all there running around with heroes and a bunch of Carnie....with all of our powers grayed out.
/team This looks like it can turn very bad very quickly.
So there is dancing and fun to be had until we are turned upon by the Carnie.
Remember how all our powers were grayed out - yeah, they are still all grayed out.
Unarmored and unable to return fire we are decimated. Perhaps a few that were lurking around the corners of the closed Ouroborus building escaped.
I was knocked over the rail and, as my defeated corpse fell to it's death, my powers returned to normal. My whole team is deathheads in the team window.
Falling into the pool in the middle of the Ouroboros base, I lay there for a bit. I have three options; keep laying there, use an awaken, or click on they shiny red "go to hospital button".
I go with the second option, and, before my character can even straiten to a full standing position and just as I'm firing off a break-free, may character is returned to their watery grave. Ack. I say.
People are mumbling in broadcast about tp'ing people - I'm not on their team so I'm sunk.
It's not looking any better. Maybe I should have tried to target the carnies (they were probably level 54's - see next post in Justice forums). Instead I clicked on the shiny red button - there are hospital bays in the O, but no - I'm sent back to Cap Au Diable.
And there I sit, my level 10 self, thinking - well, I did have the forethought to run up on the arm of the sundial and get the badge. Usually you can't get to the O before level 25, but I was there - and I snagged the badge. On some slim chance, maybe it will let me back in...nope ... have to be level 25.
    Well, it figures.
/hc The jokes on us I guess.
/hc Well, thanks for the event. I can't get back into Ouroboros because I'm level 10.
Apparently, the Carnie host in the zone is inviting people to the zone to get mauled by the Carnie again but it will take time for him to transfer characters back. Well, that was enough for me.

I log and head for Justice for round two - at least, now I have some idea of what is going on an I can prepare.

    [continued in Justice forum]
    -------------
    Critique ::
Some how I don't understand the fun of being pwn'd by the DEVs.
It wasn't even a fair fight. We didn't have powers until after we were wiped out. We weren't warned that this was going to be an event that really required us to be +25 and probably level 50 to really stand much of a chance.
The invite welcomes everyone. It doesn't say that we needed to be members of a level 50 team or over level 25 characters with an O-bus ticket.
It might as well have been setting off a nuke a Girl Scout cookie stand.
At least, it was announced in game on the Admin channel.
But then again, I was one of those without powers that was being beset upon by a massive number of Carnie (that were probably level 54).
I guess that's why over-all it was a waste of time and no fun.
    ---
    Conclusion
    I like DEV run events.
I think that they are good for the spirit of the community.
I don't think this one was handled well.
They need to be announced on the server Admin channel; it was done on Champion.
Regardless of my dislikes, I would like to see more DEV run events. I have no doubt in my mind that they will improve with each event.

Doing so would be a massive aid for those of us who run a lot of contact missions and could use the knowledge to plan our route in advance, especially if it involves having a large team of varying levels in tow.
Add something to indicate all timed and "kill all" missions, and I'm all for at least stating what zone the mission will be in.
One of the reasons that police ban/newspaper missions are so great is that you know what zone they are in and that they won't be timed or "kill all" missions.

I like original content mission arcs, but Arrest # of X, contact runs, and zone hops can really put a damper on teaming.

    Uhm.. ok....

    Yikes.

I think we need to see if we can add aroma therapy to the forums to "chill" everyone out... with a toggle to turn that off for those with allergies or sensitive noses...
Well, I jumped back into this dog-pile so I'll randomly start here.

Yeah. I am an Eagle Scout.
I'm assuming "Grandma" wasn't under attack by Malta while she was standing at the street corner.
...back to the subject at hand...
If I buff someone and I get a tell from them that says something to the effect that they didn't want/need to be buffed, I would apologize for helping them. If they continued with or included some kind of insult, I'd put them on ignore. That would not stop me from helping the next character that I saw in trouble.
    ...in the end...
It really sound like you need to take your own advice from the end of your own post!
What you posted at the beginning is unrealistic. Not being in combat, I would have plenty of time to ask if she needed help. If for some crazed reason, I did force her to cross the street against her will - which I wouldn't - I would apologize to her....just like I would another player that I was trying to help out.

[NOTE: Last night the character -- that was going red while fighting on the street that I ice-shielded, buffed, and gave 4 respites to -- did not complain. ]

Aye. The attack-chain needs to be going off now. The target is selected and has been de-buffed!
