Wow.. historically I'm lucky if I get 10 threads per lambda - and you usually get 15-20?!

Blarg... logout bug ate my post...
I thought steam just launched the updater anyway... and the only way I know to get the proper steam CoH library page is if you buy a version though them. And they now only offer one version, Going Rogue (which is good, cuts down on new player confusion). So if you already have GR on your account, you're out of luck unless you have a secondary account you can apply it to (or want to make one).
But if you want City if Heroes in your Steam Library, and be able to open the Steam overlay while playing CoH:
- At the top, under 'Games', click "Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library...",
- Click 'Browse', go to your City of Heroes directory, and open Cityofheroes.exe,
- Right click on the new entry in your library and select 'properties'
- Change the name (first text box) to whatever you want (This is what's displayed to friends when steam informs them "[name] is now playing [game]")
- In the 'Target' box, change it so it looks like
Code:
"[path]\cityofheroes.exe" -project coh
- add in whatever other things you use, like "-maxinactivefps 5"
- Launch the game though your shiny new steam shortcut.
Note that you must still use the launcher to update the game after a patch. But after it updates, you can close that and use steam.
Also, if the updater using resources while you play is an issue, under File > Settings, you can change the 'After launching a game:' drop-down to "Exit Launcher". I think there also might be commands to add to the shortcut that will make it automatically launch CoH (provided it doesn't have to update) when you run the launcher, but I'm not familiar with them.

Quote:... "shard mishs"?I got a couple toons that were close to being fully alpha slotted. I have been in Pocket D working on Inc/threads only to go to Vangaurd to check to see if anybody's doing Inc/shards....not even enough to make one team..even on a triple red dot freedom server. I guess my question is.. are shard mishs being run from somwhere else? How long do I have to wait till people want some shards again as much as threads... And last but not least. How bout a thread to shard conversion?
- Shards can be dropped from any enemy that is equal to your combat level (before shifts)... so you can run a synapse and still get shards...
- Then there's the lvl 50 TFs that award a common component choice upon completion.
- Also exchanging V-merits for gr'ai matter (and breaking it down if need be)
- Or you can exchange Astrals for Shard vouchers in ouro (bonus; you can buy vouchers on characters with excess, and then claim shards on a character that needs)
- And then there's the WST for notices... (ITF this week, I think).
- Finally- all alpha abilities can be crafted with threads.
And, as has been the case for a few years, best place to seek out teams for any of that stuff? Whatever global channels your server uses. -
Quote:You've got a point - I think I've been concentrating on my 50s for so long that the early game (dealing with TOs and DOs) is starting to feel alien to me. :PIn the middle to lategame, you're correct. However in the first 30 levels or so (before you have SOs and the slots to put them in) that's rarely the case. I was giving her concepts that would smooth out their early leveling experience and help them avoid some common pitfalls that may lead them to say certain sets or buffs or useless. If they'd taken that SR scrapper in your example and paired it with Sonic Buffs, they most assuredly wouldnt have as smooth a time leveling up as they would with more compatible buffs.
-
Quote:I'm kinda at odds with this part - It really depends on the sets and archtypes in question. A scrapper or stalker may have a tougher time reaching caps (soft or otherwise) than a tank, and might benefit from additional protection in the areas they have naturally... but not always - Super Reflexes can get damn near the softcap on all three positions on it's own without elude - in this case much of the buffs will go well over the softcap and not be useful for most content (Granted that for defense, that last 5% effectivly doubles his survival, so...)Compatible Protection- If your Brother in Law goes with a Melee and your husband takes something with buffs, then look closely at the Armor set for the melee, and pick a buffing set that would give significant boosts to the kind of Protection your melee already has. For example if he picked Shield Defense, then picking Cold Domination or Force Field both provide buffs to Defense that would make him much tougher. Counter example would be picking a resistance based Electric Armor and trying to use those same buffing sets. He would get a boost since any protection is good protection, but the synergy wouldn't be there, and you wouldnt get as much kick out of it while leveling up.
Defense - Positional (melee/range/aoe) - Do not pair with a buff set that that is typed defence, as only the highest number will count. Either his abilities will take a sideline to your buffs, or your buffs will be entirely ignored as his superior number take the entire hit. Might be better paired with a buff set that offers regeneration or resistance to soak up what damage he doesn't outright avoid. More positional defense might help if the numbers his set provides aren't that high in the first place.
Defense - Typed (Smashing/lethal, energy, dark, cold, fire, etc) - Same argument here for not going with positional defense buffs. Same argument in favor of resistance/regen buffs. Typed defense, however, tends to mesh better with more typed defence from buffs; but don't go for the same coverage! Generally, typed will excel at avoiding damage from one type (easily reaching the softcap), have poor numbers against another type, and the rest get average numbers. Try to go for the type he does poorly against.
Resistance - Much like typed defence, if you're going to stack more resistance buffs on top of what he gets from his own sets, try going for the area where he's lacking... Fire Armour, for example, can easily max out resistance against fire - buffing him with Thermal radiation means both your set and his are weak against ice. Adding any defense to his resists is good, as is regen.
Regeneration - I don't think you can go wrong with any protective buffs, here (hard to max out regeneration), although I'd go with defence or resist. Regeneration's problem has always been with surviving big spikes of damage, like jumping in and taking an alpha. If you can help him do that, his regen will take care or the rest.
That said, there are three of you, and most melee types can take care of themselves fairly well as-is, so go with whatever interests you. If the third player is a squishy type, he'll be thankful for whatever he gets (or go with a debuff centric set). -

Ok, I'm lost. What just happened? ... Were posts deleted? 'cus I can't figure out how we got from Agge's post to ragequit in less than half an hour.
*shrug*
RX10, If you ever cool off, develop some thicker skin, and decide to return, don't forget to seek out some build advice. It isn't necessary (heck, you've gotten clear to 50 at least once building your characters that way), but By the looks of things you could probably double your effectiveness (if not more) with some simple slotting tips. Here's a freebie:
For most offensive powers slot (with SOs) slot 3dam, 1acc, 1EndRdx, 1Recharge. Depending on the power and how your character performs you might concider swapping out an EndRdx/Recharge for a second of the other, an additional acc, something specific to the powerset (like -tohit for dark powers), or just slot it with 5 and spend that 6th slot on another power. -
Quote:Eh, you can kinda piece it together from other posts (I had one still in my cache; upon hearing they were taken down I quickly saved it somewhere more permanentMaaaan, those Rx10 links won't open for me. I was really looking forward to seeing what he thinks is a "good build," too.
).
A Merc/Pain build with all of the personal attacks 6 slotted and two of the pets 5 slotted. And by the looks of it most, if not all, powers were slotted with 1 of everything they can take (ex; [Commando] 1x{lvl 50 Damage IO} 1x{lvl 50 KB IO} 1x{lvl 50 EndRdx IO} 1x{lvl 50 Undermined Defences set IO} 1x{lvl 50 Acc IO})... Also, I'm no expert on either mercs or pain dom, but the ommision of some powers puzzled me (Serum and Painbringer).
RX10:
Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favor of building in whatever way you want, even petless MMs to an extent (I can understand it more for Robots and Demon sumoning, as those sets have attacks (the pulse rifle and fire whip) that dont exist on any other AT. In the past this would also apply to thugs for dual pistols). The game is quite flexible and can allow you to build in different ways and still succeed.
But if you are going to lament your controller's end game performance and then show us that build... PLEASE seek build advise in the appropriate AT sub-forum. If funds and getting things from the market are an issue, specifically request builds meant for SO or generic IOs... -
Good news! If those screenshots were any indication (and if we ignore the double negative here), I think we might have a guess as to why your controller is not able to "pull her weight in the incarnate game"!
-
Quote:While I rather like the mechanic, if for no other reason than it adds something different from the usual "big bag of HP", "defeat satelite [enemies] to be able to effectively hit the BBoHP", "ambush!" or "stand here and you die"... I cannot disagree with what you're saying in regards to the upcoming change that hopes to attract new players. They are in all other parts of the game the weakest form of survival, but because some other popular fantasy MMO is built around healing there is a false belief they are the best. The Devs stepping up and making heals the only thing that works is exactly what we didn't need right before a bajillion morons join the game in free mode.
In general I enjoy the new trial, and don't find it to be excessively longer than the first two, but I do have a couple gripes;
-Keyes getting stuck in map geometry. I'm not sure if this has been fixed yet, but it happened to leagues I was on twice - both times the GM only responded after the timer ran out.
-Disintegration + Freeze Time. On their own they are fine, when used in concert, annoying as heck. -
Sidegrading/downgrading only works within the Thread system currently - the vanguard DNA thingymabob is from the shard rewards. If you want to see what you have to choose from, look onder the Incarnate thread tab's various rarities.
Currently it's a one-way conversion from shards to threads, with astral merits being redeemable for shards from the astral vendor in Ouro. -
Issue 20.5 introduced 2 vendors to Ouroboros. Empyrean Michael, and Astral Christy. The Empyrean store allows for the purchasing of purple/PvP IOs
You could also go the Alignment Merit route, and purchase one from the alignment vendor for 30 A-Merits
Both rewards are gated by time, however, as you can only get a maximum of 3 Emp Merits, and 1.5 A-Merits (1 every 2 days from tip/morality missions, and 1 per day converting 50 regular Merits at the cost of 20mil inf) per day per character. -
It MAY be crapware, but it's still a step up from the old launcher. Which would appear to, if not actually, freeze on the larger .pigg files. Plus, NClauncher opens links in default browser instead of IE. I would have PAYED for that functionality in the old updater.

Personally I think magnetic looks better when selecting the head or fist options. The debris is much smaller and less obtrusive allowing it to be integrated with more character designs. I also find it to goes a bit better as a combat mode aura. YMMV
EDIT: And just so we're clear, the debris does have a 'comet tail' as it orbits you. That is the only part the assigned colour affects. As with most other auras, the darker (closer to the left side) you make it, the less visible the trails are. -
Quote:I don't have any pics handy, but for the second part, that glowing design is an aura from the steampunk pack. Goes quite well with radiance costume pieces (and if you have a weapon set that has vanguard blades, even better!).I've seen the pics of the ones on the site but there are some extra ingame & I can't seem to find any pics of them at all. I'd like to buy one but would like to know what it looks like first. Here are the ones I'm looking for pics of:
Boils, Feathers, Ghosts, Magnetic, Slime, & the Bubbles trail one.
And I'm not sure what this one is called but it looks like glowing designs that move across the body with the radiance set on. Is that one unlocked after you get all the radiance set together? I've only seen it on 1 person & they logged before I could ask them about it.
Also, anyone got pics of the emotes they are selling? I havn't found any that has bought them yet.
Thanks -

Quote:Oh god, tell me about it... I swear we were sent what would be a year's supply of store-brand chips (y'know - if the blasted things didn't have an expiry date on them), but only a two-meter wide section of shelf to put them on... a month later I was chewed out for placing product too close to the expiry date on the shelf, after I pointed out the fact that I can only fit about one box/flavour every two days and had been getting about two such boxes every day for the past month (and instructed to put a priority of placing the older boxes first)... My job for the day was to cart a towering pallet of chips over to claims[Tangent]
Let me tell you from the other side, the store side just how bad this decision was. See, the warehouse kept sending us the crap we were supposed to have features of but we no longer had space for it. It isn't that why wanted to reduce selection, no, instead we had to because we can't keep all that stuff in the back room. In the store I work at the back room had dozens and dozens of pallets on the floor of stuff we just had no room anywhere for.
We lost money because we had stuff in the backroom that we had nowhere to put due to a stupid decision by home office.
sorry to continue the tangent, but there's some kind of disconnect between the warehouse and the stores they supply... two weeks without sugar in stock...Quote:[/Tangent] -
Quote:indeed, as long as you're upfront about it with the team/leader, it usually isn't a problem (Just a simple "I might need extended afk breaks due to spouse/kid/pet aggro, sorry in advance, feel free to go on without me." should suffice). Worst case scenario is they kick you or you miss out on the xp from a mish or two. This with a big emphasis. Not the first time I've seen this worry (of needing to suddenly go afk) mentioned by a poster. Many have the same concern, be upfront about it and go ahead and join those teams if you wish as the vast majority will be very understanding about real life and family taking priority.
I've been on a few teams where someone had to go afk to take the dog for a walk, and no one complained. -
No worries, but "Gameplay / Technical Issues & Bugs" is probably the section you're looking for (Under "Development"). While there make sure to read the [Guide] Asking for technical help on the forums sticky, and provide the 'CoH Helper' and 'Hijack This' reports. They'll provide those who lurk in the tech help boards the information needed to diagnose your problem.
EDIT: Also - and just because it's one of the usual candidates, I don't have much to go on with what you've provided - Have you updated the graphics drivers with the latest version available from the manufacturer's website? -
Yeah, beyond some minor things (there's an unlockable store in faultline that offers select SOs a bit earlier than normal, but the selection is a bit different between origins), origin is largely cosmetic.
One thing you might consider while choosing an origin is the pool of titles you can choose from at level 25. If you want your character to be (for example) "The Glorious Kurama35" you'd need to be of the science origin (also, alignment plays a role).
Personally I tend to pick origin in one of two ways; The actual origin of the powers, Or how the character enhances those powers (And on a couple of new characters, based on the what the incarnate artifact turns into to form the link to the well in Mender Ramiel's arc). -
Quote:Heck, we could probably find you something to run the game at max ultra setting, if you really wanted us to. But there are two things the people that live and breathe hardware will need to know;Ok, i finally realized its time to get a new pc. I figured it out when i had enough time to shave while my ncsoft launcher loaded up CoH.I am always in safe mode otherwise it blue screens within 20 minutes.
I need a new desktop that will blow my old gaming experience away, all i need is a tower, any suggestions?
1: Are you comfortable assembling a new computer from the ground up from the base parts?
2: What is your budget? -
... No, not really... Unless somewhere not shown on that page he gets a similar helm/cape, I just don't even see it being close enough to joke about a revenge lawsuit...
He looks as visually similar to Statesman as Statesman does to Captain America. -

Quote:Probably is - it seems accurate to the post counts of those in this thread, anyway.See this thread, which I think is still applicable.
As of posting this, you need 31 more posts to graduate from rookie and become a cohort, Bill_of_Rights. Forum Games is probably a good place to bolster your post count in a hurry.
