I have played this game on and off from the beginning. I have ALOT of characters (I'm an altaholic). I was noticing last night of all my characters I have no level 50s!!! All my character stop around level 32. My highest is 42.

Once you hit around 30 how do you guys do it. It just seems like I hit a brick wall and leveling speed starts to slow WAY down.

I have played very little in AE. Most of my time in game is in story arcs or radio missions. Sadly I have to solo alot too. With family obligations I have to get up at a moments notice from the computer and it is just easier to not group. I wouldnt want to hold others back because I have to AFK for 10 mins ;(.

Is there something I'm doing wrong or does anyone have any suggestions. Or since Im solo I just have to suck it up ;D.

I know your pain! Usually when I hit the 30s, I seem to slow down, and play alts for a while until I stroll back over to an abandoned toon in it's 30's and just push through. Honestly though, soloing does make the journey feel that much longer. I tend to use TFs and teams to get through those levels.

I also get that same feeling around 43+, because then I know 50 is within my sight, but it seems to take so long to get there because I focus on enhancements, and not being able to slot lvl 50 IOs until I get to 47, it just makes me loose interest for a while again.

Since teaming is not an option for you, from -my- experience I'd say you've got to just suck it up. But look at it this way, you get to take the time to actually read the stories that are told when completing mission arcs. When you team of TF, you loose out on that chance.

So enjoy the journey while you take the scenic route.

Yeah, the thirties are slow...when you hit 35 though you can go to RWZ.

Typing on my phone is not fun. I will write more when I get home.

I have soloed four scraps and one brute to 50, so I do have ideas on what you can do.

Click on my guides link. There's one directed specifically to your situation - believe me, I'm well aware of altaholism (nearly 300 characters myself - but I *do* have a fair number (mid-high 20s) of 50s. A good bit of it *is* geared toward grouping - but don't think your family situation keeps you from being able to! Get to know some of the people online. Believe me, I play regularly with (for instance) parents of young children who have to suddnely "brb, kid trouble, keep going without me!"

I kinda think of it as the early leveling being speeded up, then you settle into a more normal rate later. Certainly it would make little sense to get levels 45-50 as fast as we get levels 1-5.

I solo a lot too, and I have no problem getting characters to 50. You are right, it is slower solo, and after 30, it's even moreso.

The absolute most important thing is to have a character you enjoy. I've only had one or two "Flavour of the Month" characters get to 50 because, no matter how effective they may be, if they're not my playstyle, they're not fun, and it's hard to go back to them.

Once you've got a character you enjoy, start doing Story Arcs. You can even go to Ouroboros and redo favorites or fill in ones you missed while levelling. Story Arcs are important to the soloer because of the Arc Completion bonus - some of them are quite large.

If you find your character to be fairly survivable, you can also consider increasing your difficulty. The best setting depends on both you and your character - a scrapper may want to fight higher level enemies, and opt for +2/x1, a brute may want more enemies to boost his fury and use +1/x4, while a blaster with many AoEs may choose to hover over groups of -1/x8 for numerous quick kills. Whichever you pick, if you can survive it, it's quicker than the default.

I've been in teams where folk have been AFK for nearly entire TF's, and since they'd explained they might have to run off randomly, no one in the team made a fuss. It wouldn't bother me, and I'd be surprised if it bothered most of the people I team with. There might be some who kick up a fuss, but there's no harm in explaining the above situation, and asking them if it's fine with them.

One star the fuss-pots and don't ask them again. But, for the decent folk, maybe ask about if they're running SGs?

Grab the level 42 and do speed ITFs. Yes, a first time person doing that TF won't want to speed through it, but it's a quick jolt in exp. All the more so when it's the W.T.F. I did one yesterday that was all of 20 minutes. Once you hit 45 all of the end game TFs are open to you outside of trials. A Khan TF is rather quick even doing a slow version of it. A LGTF can be done in speed form as well.

This with a big emphasis. Not the first time I've seen this worry (of needing to suddenly go afk) mentioned by a poster. Many have the same concern, be upfront about it and go ahead and join those teams if you wish as the vast majority will be very understanding about real life and family taking priority.

I am one of those people too, that are afraid gimping the team if I have to jump afk off and on but when I do team I am repeatedly amazed at how understanding people are, of myself or of other teammates ( I started feeling less worried about going afk when I seen others go afk a sec or two, and then everyone chimes in "WB" when they return, and realized, this kinda thing happens ) they are people who have RL interruptions as well, and as long as you state, "Sorry guys, gotta go afk a sec" or something of the like when you join the team, I'm sure most wouldn't mind.

Happy Huntings!

indeed, as long as you're upfront about it with the team/leader, it usually isn't a problem (Just a simple "I might need extended afk breaks due to spouse/kid/pet aggro, sorry in advance, feel free to go on without me." should suffice). Worst case scenario is they kick you or you miss out on the xp from a mish or two.

I've been on a few teams where someone had to go afk to take the dog for a walk, and no one complained.

This, but also go Rogue or Vigilante first. You can do twice as many missions if you play both sides.

Speed ITFs or any speed TF is fine, but get on a "Shardy" one if you can, you'll get more XP if folks are going for shards.

Teaming also works too, just there seems to be fewer just random teams around. TFs are content folks seem to focus on.

Yes. You're focusing on how fast you level. As long as that is foremost in your mind, the game will seem tedious and grinding. If you focus on enjoying the gameplay, the speed at which you level will seem irrelevant.

At any given time, I have 2-3 characters that I focus on and play regularly. When one hits 50, I start a new one. I don't play villains much, so I have been working on a stalker for probably a year. I've been playing over 6 years and have just 3 villains at 50. I have 20 heroes at level 50.

From your post, it sounds like you PREFER to switch around between a lot of different characters, but you feel you SHOULD have some at 50. Why? If your choice is to play lots of different characters, that's fine. If you want to get one to 50, then just do it. If it doesn't feel fun, DON'T DO IT. There's no right way to play the game (as long as you're not griefing other players).

For TFs:

- tell the team leader (and team) that you may need to afk frequently because of (whatever).
- if you do have to afk for an uncertain period, exit the mission so the rest of the team can progress with the TF even if you don't come back for a while. Plus, they won't think you're just leaching.
- try not be be the 2nd member of the team in case the team leader crashes and the star passes to you while you're afk. Ask the team leader if you can do a quick quit and reinvite before he starts, so you'd be at the bottom of the team list.
- do try to at least be around for the last mission. Most teams will have the courtesy to wait for you to come back before they start the last mission, but any more than 10 mins is stretching it. If you are not concerned about the TF rewards (badge, etc.), you could tell the team to go ahead if you're not back in x-minutes.

Teams are the number one killer of soloists.

Just to kind of piggyback on what IB said: set yourself goals other than "getting to the next level." The 30's is when I typically start finishing out the power-granting accolades. Instead of saying "I gotta get to 38 today" say "I gotta get Silver Bullet or Slayer today" then get an Ouro mish that drops you to the appropriate level (don't run the mish, unless you want to; it's just so you get xp) then go to Striga and punch nazis inna face.

Another trick I use: park a particular character for 10 days. This maxes out patrol xp. Then when you come back, you get to the next level 50% faster.

Just a suggestion but when you join a team explain that due to rl you may have to go AFK at times provided you do not enter the misson and the go AFK I,m sure most team,s would be accommodating enough to allow it ,I would hope so any way.

You can go to the RWZ at level 1. You likely wouldn't survive long, but you can. You can use this to do co-op team AE arcs.

However at level 35 you can enter Cimerora and start doing ITFs. If you get on a plow ITF you'll get a lot of experience. It might take 60-90 minutes but the extra xp will be worth it.

/this.

I am predominantly a solo player. I have several L50's, a handful of which are moving
on to incarnate trials.

Enjoying your toon is critical.

Take time to read the stories - some are quite good.

Run at difficulty settings that are manageable but challenging - it'll level you faster
and make the accomplishments sweeter along the way.

Set "mini-goals" - ie. a goal for a play session. Maybe one session it's getting
the 5 tips. On another, maybe it's finishing a contact's story arc. On a third,
maybe it's running tf X...

In short, come to your play session with a simple goal that you intend to complete
during that session.

Team when it appeals to you, but don't spend a play session waiting for a team. Make
some progress on a mini-goal instead of waiting around.

String enough of those mini-accomplishments together, and ... Ding - L50...

Finally, it's easy to get a toon to L50 if that is all you care about - several folks
have done it in under 30 hrs or so (to the exclusion of all else)...

It's far more interesting and fun (imho) to enjoy the journey along the way... YMMV

If you play in bursts with a couple of days inbetween, maxing out patrol xp can help your leveling speed. The Law Enforcer day job (and its upgrade) give bonus xp for mission completion. Log out in a Police station(or an Arachnos base for redside version) to charge up its duration.
