Quote:To be fair, when looking at the forums from the index (under English) you've got;I'm not saying this to be mean or to nitpick or anything like that. I am simply honestly amused that the first help forum you saw on the list was the SECOND help forum on the list, meaning you skipped a help forum called Technical Issues when looking for assistance on your technical issue.
(Don't worry, it happens all the time. I think my first question was a gameplay bug that I posted here and was directed over to tech issues.)
- News, Events & Announcements
- Development
- Player Help
- [etc...]
The subtext for development does list "Issues & Bugs", but that listing seems short, less prominent, and in the middle of other seemingly unrelated topics.
I think the forums could do with a link to the Tech Issues & Bugs forum under Player Help, or at least a sticky under Player Questions, indicating where users might be able to get more prompt and accurate technical assistance. -
Quote:Yeah, apparently since I posted that -projectcoh method for steam integration, some of the game's important IP adresses changed - And, long story short, I don't fully understand all that's going on (something about the launcher passing new IPs to the client on launch, rather than patching the client with those IPs.. I think.)I tried doing this and even though I got the overlay to work I can't connect to the game at all. I'm running windows 7 64bit.
Basically the message is always "game failed to connect to the login server blah blah contact customer service yada yada."
THIS THREAD looks like it contains useful info/tips regarding this though. -
Unless they changed it - older characters can get them by switching to a new (lvl 1) build. It sometimes takes a few minutes, but you have 15 (20?) before you can switch back to a leveled/slotted build anyway.
(I tend to use this trick to put one of them in brawl) -

Quote:Fixed a tiny little error.I believe that last line should actually read "Set Password (you can use the same password you have now assuming it conforms to the new[ish] password criteria of 8-13 letters, must contain at least one number and letter")".
Some people [*waves hand, embarrassed*] with (formerly) inferior password security could not use their existing password -- I could still log into the game, but not the forum. Finally found this tip in another thread, went to use the same password and got hit with the above.
Also, don't be embarassed, I figure anyone trying to brute force their way in by guessing passwords is more likely to try passwords that conform to the enforced standard. Passwords that don't conform to the standard might be more secure against such attempts (why guess passwords that shouldn't be possible?). If they get your password by some other means (malware, phishing, keyloggers, etc) then no password can help you, because they have it*.
I wish they would allow longer passwords, but at least the restrictions in use are more secure than what my bank uses. (seriously - 8 characters max, alpha only, does not appear to be case sensitive.)
*although this is an argument in favour of regularly scanning your machine and changing passwords routinely. -
Zwillinger updated the announcement, the problem seems to now be fixed (as I can post from this account again). If you still have problems, the solution is apparently to log into the game, which should update the forum login.

Yeah, not entirely surprised this made it past testing either - need a testing environment with plenty of 'dummy' servers, that can't be accessed, but cause the scrollbar to be used.
-
I know servers are not open to the masses yet, but: is anyone else able to move the scrollbar at server select? It keeps snapping to the top for me...
-
MARTy travels back in time and kills the mobs just before you did, robbing you of the XP. Why? Because if you level too fast, his parents never kiss and he'll never be born.
-
In theory you can just leave the NCLauncher running if the Auto-Updates settings are set appropriately.

My email button has been red since gleemail - I keep one blank email in there for each account, so that I just have to hit reply to send items/inf to myself
It's far less annoying than it was when all red meant was "you have spam!" -
Hmm... how do you feel about indirectly dealing damage, like through pets? bots/ff could fill that roll, just set them on aggressive, get near a spawn, and your bots take most of the aggro, and kill things while you stand there. (or use the tankermind strategy - have them in bodyguard mode and use the presence pool to taunt)

Quote:For ideas on what lore abilities might mesh thematically with your scrapper (I'm going to be working with existing ones, as I have not heard anything about them expanding the lore abilities again)... we might need to dance around the "dark" aspect - A number of summons have a few dark powers in their repertoire, but none seem exclusively dark themed (even the dark ring mistress has but one dark cone; the rest are psy).Hello all,
I have a few questions as to what to do with my DM/WP/Blaze scrapper. I already have T4 Spiritual and working towards T4 Judgment/Void. Im pretty sure I will take Barrier, but I have no idea what to take for my Lore or Interface. The problem with Lore is I would want a pet that goes along with a dark hero, so I would really appreciate ideas there.
-If your Character has any strong ties to Longbow, Arachnos, Carnival of Shadows, Cimerorans, Nemesis, Rikti, Vanguard, or Praetoria; We could hand-wave it as using your dark powers to (forcibly?) summon assistance from your friends in [faction].
-Storm Elementals, while perhaps they might not match the colours of your dark powers, could be considered clouds of dark energy that fire off lightning bolts.
-If your character (beyond being dark), is tech-ish based in origin, perhaps you could work in robotic pets? Warworks, Clockwork, and Robotic Drones could serve that purpose.
-If you don't mind using your dark powers to summon other-worldly monsters, Rularu could be a good fit.
-Vanguard - particularly any from this tree with both the Sorcerer and the buff-pet Magician (t3-Partial-core, t4-Radial-superior). The sorceror only has Lifedrain for dark (also 2 ice and one elec), But the buffpet has twilight grasp and assault. Bonus; vanguard tend to dress in black/gray/purple.
Lore can be tough to fit in thematically with some characters. I had a heck of a time picking a lore tree for my plant based character. In the end I went with Rularuu for the organic monster look. Polar lights were a close second -
I have this odd visual of a hero who's cape is ripped going over to Back Alley Brawler. BABs then procedes to put on some reading glasses (likely on top of his shades) and tries for a solid hour to thread a needle with those huge gauntlets...

Quote:... Something like this I could get behind, actually. It would need a bit of tweaking to fit more thematically into our game; For some reason I keep thinking this could be tied in with the incarnate "quick path" that we cannot currently take... flying too close to the sun with wax wings, as it were.I would however like to see something that appears in DDO. Past Lives. So I could re-roll a character I no longer enjoy at 50, but keep all the unlocks on that character. That, is badges, costume parts things of that nature. And then have to level as a new class but gain a bonus linked to my old class. (Maybe only after hitting 50). In DDO it takes longer to level for each subsequent life, because after reincarnating you need more XP/level than before. Yet people do still 'reincarnate' many times.
If this were added my original main Lost Ninja would be re-rolled immediately as would one of my Fire/Kin controllers. And probably some others. -
Quote:I think you have just found common ground with the rest of the forum.
But I'm not silly enough to actually believe that some of you actually wish to DISCUSS the matter. -
I don't know blasters inside and out, but /devices is fairly good solo. I should warn you that it works best if you're not in a hurry - if you take your time you can take anything short of an archvillain or giant monster with NO effort whatsoever. Just time (tripmines and recharge reduction like hasten, or gaeas are your friends). One of the downsides, however, is that unlike every other blaster secondary, Devices offers very little in the way of damaging abilities. What it damage it does have requires long interruptable cast periods, meaning they aren't much use during a fight, but are great to set up before one.

Quote:And, as Ad Astra mentioned, global chat channels are cross-server.Aha. So basically it's a legacy issue. People haven't left them yet, despite a new tool?
A community version of "Technical debt" I suppose?
Playing an alt on virtue, but want to get in on that Mothership/Hami raid that just started on Triumph where your mains are? Or perhaps you want in on those raids but were on Freedom because lol-pvp-on-any-other-server. Global channels can let you know about them while you are off in RP/PVP-land
LFG-chat will fail you in this regard. However, I do support those forming teams to advertise in both lfg and Global channels. Also, global channel have the additional benefit of being moderated - anyone gets too spamy or flippant, and the mods can cut the annoyance off at the root. -
... or on a Luck of the Gambler, sell that on the market for ~120mil, buy the replacement quad at around 65mil again, and pocket the change.

Ancillary, Patron and Regular Power Pool Issues and Problems
Ancillary Pool -
Ancillary Pool Bugs and Glitches:
- Field Mastery - Energy Torrent (Allowed Enhancements Set Categories)
- Energy torrent does not list any Endurance modification abilities, but takes end mod sets.
- Energy torrent does, however, have a chance of knockdown (low mag knockback) in the power, but takes no knockback sets.
- Field Mastery - Temporary Invulnerability
- Description and right clicking the icon in the power bar correctly states that it only provides smashing and lethal resistance. Detailed info and the Enhancement screen say it provides resistance to ALL damage
- "46.52% (30.00%) resistance to all damage on self"
- "All damage resistance: BV: 30.00% V: 46.52%(55.1%)"
- Description and right clicking the icon in the power bar correctly states that it only provides smashing and lethal resistance. Detailed info and the Enhancement screen say it provides resistance to ALL damage

Quote:I have one character on which one of the costume slots is a pretty darn good Yoko from Tegen Toppa Gurren Lagann (the white outfit from later in the show... the inability to add textures to the "with skin" options make the iconic flame-print bikini difficult if not impossible to replicate)... If only the character in question made use of Assault Rifle powers, the vanguard 'Redding' Rifle would go perfectly with the costume. That said I too have a dabbled to see how accurate I could make a costume that originated somewhere else. One of my minor characters have Halloween costumes to make him look either like the Martian Manhunter or Spock (the character is a 4 1/2 foot tall Roswell Gray alien who normally flies around in a silver metallic space suit, he finds the outfits funny). I even have a pallet swapped Dr. Doom robot mastermind I rolled when CoV first came out just for laughs. Of course he's not called Dr. Doom (well he is but in Finnish I think) and there is no background write up.
-
I managed Scrapyarder once... Not something I'd like to repeat, as the MM I tried it on lacked any sort of way to keep him still. And he wouldn't bloody stop moving; He skirted the edge of some drones twice, didn't mind the first time, but the second time he was at 25% health (I was swearing. A lot). Also he seems to like arachnos bases, jumping up and down from the tall walls, forcing me to follow
-
I seem to recall people complaining that the NCLauncher can be a bit of a resource hog if left open. If you haven't already, it might be worth opening the launcher; then File, Settings, and switch the "After launching a game:" dropdown to "Exit Launcher".

Quote:With mace mastery, you can get another arachnobot at 47 (the other patrons also have a pet in the lvl 47 slot, but the arachnobot completes the setYou could do a pretty decent "master mind" with a Crab Spider and lots of recharge. They get like 5 pets (all are those mechanical spider things you see Arachnos using sometimes).
Level a villain to 20 to unlock the Villain Epics, start a Soldier, respec him to a Crab at level 24. I think the final group of spiders show up around level 32. Slot like the bejeesus for recharge.). And then there's the Arachnos Lore incarnate abilities that gives you a toxic Tarantula for up to 7 spider pets! (also gives a bane or something. I ignore him.)

Not sure if it's related, but I launch the game from one of two ways;
Code:Normal way, launcher is configured to close on game startup, and I get no issues.Target: E:\Games\NCSoft\Launcher\NCLauncher.exe /LaunchGame=CityOfHeroes
Code:Target: "E:\Games\City of Heroes\cityofheroes.exe" -project coh -uiskin 2 -maxinactivefps 5
