Can you email yourself any more?

I tried emailing myself an enhancement, just as I used to, and I instantly and automatically claimed it rather than it sitting in the mailbox to be claimed. Bug, or is there a setting I should set now to get the old behaviour back again?

As it is, I can't send things to my other chars :/

I just sent an item to myself this morning with no problem. Double check the address your sending. Is it your global? Are you maxed out on items in email?

Ok. My global has a space in it, and if I send to the global without the space, it goes right back to me. Must be to do with the char name being same as the global without the @.

Thank you though! It did used to work without the space, but I guess this is more "correct".

@superdude and @super dude are two completely different global names that can be in use by different players at the same time. It's not a case of one being more correct.

I can claim sal, enhan etc. but not influence. I tried to send some from Victory to Exalted and cannot claim it on either server.

Except in some weird cases. For example, I am @gavinruneblade. However I cannot email to myself at that address I have to use @gavin runeblade or the item is immediately reclaimed. All my global friends use @gavinruneblade.

I've contemplated using my one free global rename to go with something else, but not sure that I won't end up with the same problem. And I have no idea how this particular bug kicked in but there were multiple threads about it a few issues back in the tech support channel, so I know I'm not the only one with the problem.

In game petitions have been utterly useless in trying to resolve the issue also.

I had a silly guess about the bug your describing but then I realized that for that idea to be feasible the system would have to recognize that the space between gavin and runeblade is the appropriate spot to separate the global into two names.

So now I'm just baffled.

Just to make sure - none of the sending characters were under level 10, right?

Here's a tip: After sending an email successfully to your global, do NOT delete it. Future emails to yourself you can send as replies to that message. That will eliminate the risk of sending stuff to the wrong person because of a typo.

PS Characters under 10 can receive global emails, they just can't send them. I usually send new characters a few million inf as 'starter capital.'

PPS Edit: I misread Raj's post as referring to receiving characters instead of sending characters. I should be more careful reading until I've had enough morning caffeine.

It's also possible that this is a default behavior when you send an item to a global that does not exist.

Now imagine I want to take my Hecatomb and mail it to myself at @Hyperstrike1.

Someone slips me a roofie and in my delerium, I managed to fat-finger in @Hyperstrike11_11_11 which doesn't exist in the system.

Likely it just bounces in the mail system immediately and returns the item to me. Rather than just disappearing off into the aether.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

I had this issue when I was trying to send items from my character to a character on my account that had the "accept email from friends only" or whatever that option is enabled in the option menu. Disabling it fixed the issue. I'm at work now so I can't check the actual name of the option.

Give that a shot and see what happens.

Characters under level 10 can't even try to send email. I just checked, and the buttons are all greyed out.

The odd thing is that it worked this way for at least three other people who reported the bug. My guess is it has something to do with the Capital "R". But totally a guess and I've never gotten any official response to requests for help except an automated "your petition has been received" email (out of game, not in-game email) with no actual content in it.

This is your answer, Moth. Your emails are failing and auto-claiming because they are bouncing off of a nonexistent global name. In fact, you're lucky it doesn't exist, or that item would be gone.

Ta muchly. I wonder why it used to work?

Does this happen often? *debates changing global name*

Actually, I believe even then it would fall into the return policy.

Correct; if you send an email to a name that doesn't exist it just comes back to you. This may be mistaken as an alternate way to send things to yourself.

It kicked in a few issues ago for quite a lot of people. I believe (but haven't the searchfu to confirm) one issue after they migrated the accounts from europe and added all the _NA and so on to people.

Should be easy to track down in the technical support forum since there were so many threads about it. But as I said, no searchfu here. =)

I suppose, more accurately, the person with the existent global name would get the item, but I think we all got the gist!

That is what I was implying.

I would hope most people would return a mistakenly emailed item, but I wouldn't assume a guaranteed return.
