  1. Here's your problem:

    Video Memory: 894 MB

Corrupt video driver install. Looking at your sound drivers, they have a corrupt installation also.

Turn off Vertical Sync and Anisotropic Filtering as well. See BillZBubba's guide for ATI settings that is stickied at the top of this forum.

Some might argue that cryptic has gone a bit too far now with ae's.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What? They are stealing Paragon Studios idea of AE and putting it into CO? Well, that's what they get for letting so many Cryptic employees keep their comped accounts here.

But if I wait long enough, someone will surely be coming along telling us that AE was originally a WoW idea and that Paragon Studios is just stealing the idea from WoW and that WoW did it better anyway.
  3. I'd revert to the 185.85 drivers.

Also, I was thinking Alienware used a skinning program similar to Window Blinds, but I'm not sure what they call theirs so I'm not sure if I'm seeing it here or not. If it's installed, set it to not skin CoH.
  4. It's just an organizational thing with me. And a control issue as well to some extent.

There are very few programs that I leave at the default installation path mostly so that I can take some shortcuts with backups, scripts, and a few other things.

This is my first foray into Vista, so I'm still figuring out why the OS is doing some of the things it's doing, and how to work around it the easiest.

I hadn't seen anything on the MACToolkit and RunAsInvoker when I set up CoH on here, but I had seen the recommendation in Zloth's guide to not install to the default folder. Since that fit with my existing habits so well, it was easy to do it that way without having to think too much.

Maybe some day I'll find a method I like better that's easier for me to work with, or makes sense to my way of thinking. Until then, I'll stay with what I'm familiar with.
  5. They knew people would be people, but they gave warnings anyway.

They were also prepared to take action if needed. And they told us that before it ever went to beta.
  6. Some of the codes are slightly different, but not that different. There is a decent Help system built into the forums, but you should be able to pick up the most used features rather easily.
  7. Which really wasn't needed as it hadn't bumped off the front page.

Unless you are still on the LOLdefaultLOL settings.

  8. Well, since the OP hasn't responded with any of the requested information, we needed something here to break the monotony.

  9. I shall be certain to sign up on your boards and create a gazillion threads about how MA is ruining the game.

  10. If you had half his skill at designing and customizing motorcycles, you wouldn't care how big your 'stache is.
  11. And if a player or ally uses Oil Slick arrow it cons as a friendly so you cannot ignite it.

    Known Issue.
  12. If you installed it to the default location, your Screenshot folder may not be in that folder as it was in XP. Vista may put a placeholder folder there, but the actual path is likely to be C:\Users\yourusernamehere\AppData\Local\VirtualSto re. Since I didn't install to the default folder, I can't check my system to find out for certain what that path is.

EDIT: I got the correct path from Zloth's Missing Files (Vista) post in the ++ Common Solutions & Posting Guidelines ++ thread that is stickied at the top of this forum.
  13. The default path in Vista 64 is (IIRC) C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes.

I NEVER install to the default folder for games in Vista. I always install to my c:\Games folder or my E:\Games folder, depending on which computer I'm on.

Did you launch the updater to actually install the game, or did you just download the updater from the website?

If you haven't yet launched the updater, the game isn't installed yet. In that case, I'd recommend that when you DO launch the updater, when it asks where to install it do NOT use the default path. Instead create a Games folder on your C: drive or another drive and install it to there.

We can't fix it. We are players. Recently several sounds were updated in the game.

From the front page of the forum under the name Technical Issues and Bugs:

Discuss technical questions and/or bugs here! This is NOT a forum where official technical/QA support is available. To report a bug use the /bug command in game. For technical assistance email support@coh.com.

I did post it in game, but I was told (by the GM that responded) to go ahead and post it here too. The devs do read this board. This isn't Player Questions.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, that piece of information would have been helpful to have put in the original post. Many players see Technical Issues and Bugs and come here to try to get something changed as if it were a forum built to report bugs or issues.

Had you stated you had used the /bug command in game and that the GM suggested you post it to the forums, it would have been much more clear rather than just the question of why it was changed and a request to please fix it.

    New Rig

Actually, it depends on which version of 64-bit Vista you have.

Home Basic supports up to 8GB RAM
Home Premium supports up to 16 GB RAM
Business supports up to 128 GB RAM
Enterprise supports up to 128 GB RAM
Ultimate supports up to 128 GB RAM
  16. This needs to be on the new forumz.

    and just for Zen

  18. Not sure what might be causing it, but I'd recommend filing a /petition and explaining that it is happening to multiple account and computers so that they don't think it's just the one character or account.

It sounds like some type of base corruption.

EDIT: Do you happen to know if anyone was incorrectly awarded any of the Veteran badges early and placed one of the base items from those badges in the base? If so, and the Vet badges have since been removed, it can cause corruption in the base.

If it has a little more "functionality", and will allow me to put my website address up in my profile (which I cannot do now, because for some reason this forums settings will not recognize a "~")... then I'll be happy.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't have a problem posting a link to CoH Helper and there is a ~ in the address there.

What sort of problem are you having with it?
  20. [ QUOTE ]

Ironically Fallout 3 ran just fine on this machine on some of the higher graphic settings. It is just CoH that has these problems. That's what makes it so frustrating.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Really? How is that ironic? Fallout 3 is a DirectX game. CoH is an OpenGL game. Apples and oranges.

Why is it that people want to insist on comparing how CoH runs to how a game using a different system (DirectX instead of OpenGL) and a different engine run?

That's a bit like comparing speeds of a Toyota Celica and a Lear Jet.

And we've still not seen the reports asked for previously.
  21. nVidia Video drivers or Display drivers. When you get rid of the old drivers with DriverSweeper, there won't BE any drivers to autoinstall.
  22. 186.03 driver version is problematic.

I'd recommend using the 185.85 drivers here instead.

EDIT: Also, the section below seems to indicate a corrupt driver installation.

Sound Device Description: Headset Earphone (Bluetooth Hands-free Audio)
    Driver File: {0.0.0.00000000}.{9192e457-fd20-40e6-9313-d1b743983972}
    Driver Version:
    Driver Date: 1/1/0001 12:00:00 AM

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd uninstall the device, reboot and try to get the drivers to install cleanly. You can run CoH Helper again and look for that entry to see if it is working right. If it is you'll see a real date there.
  23. Post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings.

Then, post a log from running HijackThis. This will show what else is going on on your computer while you are playing CoH.
