Experiencing VERY LONG load times in Win7
I'd revert to the 185.85 drivers.
Also, I was thinking Alienware used a skinning program similar to Window Blinds, but I'm not sure what they call theirs so I'm not sure if I'm seeing it here or not. If it's installed, set it to not skin CoH.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
Twilight, I just started having this on my Win7 box as well. I chased this bug all morning. I think a critical update we picked up about 24-48hrs ago is partially to blame. I rolled back about 3 days, and rolled back to my preferred 181 driver. I was on the 185's. I think theres a Win7 issue going on atm.
While you're at it, though...

Set Steam so it doesn't run all the time (unless you need it to run CoH?). You might want to to into your registry and keep that Acrobat/ITunes junk from loading every time you boot, too. And what the heck is that Curse thing?
Curse is an add-on managing program for WoW and/or WAR. At its most basic, it'll track drop rates of items and send it to the appropriate Curse database (WoW or WAR).

I having played City of Heroes on my Windows 7 RC, have not experienced these problems. Maybe it's just the programs you are running are using bandwidth and RAM? That would slow the downloading and decompression considerably I would think.
I have the same problem ever since I installed Win7.
I've tried going to an old vista 64 driver, Cat8.6 I think, having nothing else running, different graphics setting etc. Nothing helps. It still takes so long to load it times out to the logon screen.

All right. I tried uninstalling the update Tease mentioned, and also reverting to the older driver. Neither resolved the issue, and I ultimately switched back because the older driver was causing annoying issues with everything else I'm playing right now. (Also, an ATI user reporting the same issue tells me this isn't graphics related at all.)
Tease, do you know specifically what date the Windows Update you uninstalled to get it working was published on?
Owlcat, please start a new post with your information so that we don't get instructions for two different problems crossed up.
I'd suggest setting your graphics according the the first post in BillZBubba's stickied thread on ATI Issues and Settings Recommendations here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=120192
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
Same problem on the computer I'm running Windows 7, I've tried to format and even switched video cards, once I reinstall coh it runs fine for the first time then the problem comes up again. The loading time is so long the client disconnects from the server, also, coh kept stuck at 25% CPU (Got 4 cores), its also a bit slow on the login screen, whenever you click or select something it freezes for a few then "works" until you try to enter the game after choosing the character.
It's not a video card problem. Before formating I had a 9600GT, now a 4770 from a crossfire setup of my other computer., a totally different card with the latest drivers. My notebook does the same thing with a totally different hardware and direct 3g connection. Not a "bugged" windows, it's working 100%, even tried the older build on the notebook to see if there is a different but I had no luck at all.
Tried compatibility mode, disabling full screen, running as an administrator nothing works.
I managed to get online once after reinstalling the game but after few loadings I had a timeout and never worked again, once again I could see the image of my character frozen but coh was not responding, again, stuck at 25% only using only one of the cores (Tried the renderthread switch also, didn't make a difference).

Please start your own thread so that instructions aren't getting crossed. It can get really confusing when several people are involved and trying to give instructions to multiple people.
Your Video settings are going to cause major problems. Please set your ATI CCC settings and ingame video settings per those in the first post in BillZBubba's ATI Issues and Settings Recommendations thread that is stickied at the top of the forum.

I would suggest a stick thread about problems related to Windows 7 like we had with Vista but since it's not really officially out yet I doubt it will happen any soon. Obviously Windows 7 is already final however we do, still need mature drivers. (Vista took years in this stage, especially when related to graphics, not long ago we still had to live with bugged drivers both from nvidia and amd).
No need to even read the sticked thread about ATI Settings if I'm on Vista or Windows XP, coh will just work perfectly at the maximum settings or any other (Hell I'm able to play coh on Fedora 11 with no problems at all).
Also that thread is about 2 years old and CCC/ATI drivers has already changed a lot.
Thanks for the help attempt but that wont work out nor it did help, I believe it's not really polite to spread threads around about the same subject if no solution has been found yet.

@Black Heart
There is a stickied thread with some solutions that are working on Win7.
The reason for asking for a separate thread is that some are coming in with different hardware or software, and unless we put the person's name at the top of our instructions to them, someone else may think it is instructions for them (with different hardware, software, etc.) and change settings that didn't need to be changed causing frustration.
And yes, Water Effects, Bloom, Depth of Field all cause problems still with ATI if they are enabled. AA and AF don't play well when enabled in the game settings but work fine when set in CCC.
I know these things because I am currently using an ATI HD4850 in Vista x64 and in Win7 x64. I could load up a system with XP using an HD3800 series card and get the same problems. I know, because I had it loaded and had to lower those same settings.
I don't care if you can play on Fedora with no problems, it has no bearing on my troubleshooting of the problem in Win7.
I'm a bit curious where you've gotten the 7600 build, since the info I've seen about the RTM build release schedule is that it will not be released for download until August 6th in the earliest channel.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
Besides the different software and hardware it's still the same problem.
The 7600(Build 16385 which is supposedly to be the final) is not hard to find on the internet, it's working great, currently running it on my 2nd desktop and the release candidate from Microsoft on my notebook, having the same issues with both. (It's a Core 2 Duo with a 9600M). (no way it's a build issue since before trying this one a couple of days ago I was using the official RC and still is, on my notebook).
Both had the *same issues*, I heard it could be due windows updates but I have no proof as for now and haven't tried to do a rollback of the system. It's funny how I did try Windows 7 months ago in beta stage and I could run Coh with some bugs here and there but it did work.
Running Vista x64 and the Crossfire 4770 with the 9.7 I never had any kind of issues, and there hasn't been any need for any tweak so CoH could run perfectly. Never had issues with nVidia besides the Display Driver stopped working and so on but that was sometime ago. The tweaks mentioned in the stickied thread are pretty useful but doesn't really help with this problem related to Windows 7.
At least I'm glad I'm not the only one with this same problem, had an extensive search through the forums and found several people with the same issue, none got solved so far, different versions of Windows 7, hardware and software.

No they have the same symptoms but the cause may be entirely different.

Tempus unum hominem manet
I also get this problem, recently reinstalled and subscribed for one month to get me in the mood for Champions next month, logged in, saw my old characters saying 1026days since last log in and decided to have a go at logging in.
However after attempting to load in at Atlas Park et cetra, the loading bar goes so slowly it is unbelievable, even got kicked out back to main menu due to how long it was taking (doesn't help that I can't change the resolution from this tiny thing until I am ingame).
Build 7600, been stable since it's release to those of us in MSDN, all drivers up to date, ports on the router open et cetra.
Hokay, after playing around with it, I've discovered the issue.
Surprise! Not even remotely graphics related. The culprit, in fact, was the hotfix published on 7/15. The problem existed on ALL NVidia drivers that even worked that I tested, anf vanished once I rolled back to that point.
So, if you're using Windows 7, RC 1, Build 7100 and still experiencing this issue, I would suggest rolling back nearly a month's worth of patches and hotfixes and turning off automatic updates if you have them on.
This is one problem that I was able to work around using a Vista fix in NC Support's knowledge base:
Drag the CohUpdater.exe to the desktop and double click it. When it asks you where you want to install, point it to your existing CoH install. Then throw out the CohUpdater.exe (the one on the desktop).
Doing that seems to bypass all the obnoxious Windows Firewall checks that slow down patch downloads and zone loads.
Hope that works for you too.

Save Paragon City! Efforts Coordination
Well here's the thing... what do those of us that installed AFTER 7/15 get a fix?
I may just have to suspend my account until there is a fix (either Windows or CoH) or until some other game comes out. The kind of load times I am getting make it unplayable.
Funny thing is this is the only game that even remotely has issues that I play.
As the post title says. We are talking about 25+ minutes into St. Martial (followed by a timeout.)
