What happened to /e drum?

Why was the sound effect for this changed? It used to have a nice deep bass boom. Now it sounds like a wussy snare drum. Please fix it. I can't even stomach using the emote as it is.

We can't fix it. We are players. Recently several sounds were updated in the game.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I did post it in game, but I was told (by the GM that responded) to go ahead and post it here too. The devs do read this board. This isn't Player Questions.

It sounds like you are using the wrong emote, since ;drumlow gives the "snare drum" sound. If that's not the case you might want to try Verifying your files, since both ;drum and ;drumlow work normally for me.

I confirmed with 4 other players last night before I sent in the ticket. I know the difference between /e drum and /e drumlow. I was using /e drum and the sound was the same slow beat of /e drum (not the fast beat of /e drumlow) but sounded like a weak snare drum instead of a big bass drum.

Well, that piece of information would have been helpful to have put in the original post. Many players see Technical Issues and Bugs and come here to try to get something changed as if it were a forum built to report bugs or issues.

Had you stated you had used the /bug command in game and that the GM suggested you post it to the forums, it would have been much more clear rather than just the question of why it was changed and a request to please fix it.

Well, maybe something was weird for all four of you?
I just tested both emotes, IN THE PAST 60 SECONDS, and they work perfectly and sound just the same way they always have. The /drum emote sounds like a kettle drum.

It could have been something about the situation, too. For instance, the sound may not come out right if somebody also has <some power> going at the same time. Or maybe a certain map doesn't do it right. Or maybe it happens anytime after some other sound has played. So many possibilities....

[/ QUOTE ] I just tested it as well. I believe the large drum does sound slightly different, but not the drastic change the OP makes it seem.

Sounds identical to me.

[/ QUOTE ] It's very close, but it does sound a little higher pitched and hollow than it used to be... I might not have noticed if it wasn't for this thread. That's how close it is.

My only guess is.. the drum is actually using more than one sound... the main one is not changed at all, but the other might be slightly different due to the changes in the footstep sounds?

I'm not saying that's definitely true, but I'm throwing it out there as a possibility.
For example, the sound the portals make in PI are actually many sounds mixed together... one of them being the Train Track sounds. If they ever changed the way the Trains sound, the portals would sound ever so slightly different as well, and possibly cause a similar discussion.

Even if a Dev said they never sought out to change the Drum sound, it doesn't mean that it wasn't unintentionally changed by another sound effect (unless the drum is not multiple sounds, and the same sound sample is not re-used for something else and unchanged).

Then again, I could simply just be mis-remembering what it sounded like before. It's not like I purposely listened to and evaluated it before this. lol

As I stated, it sounds exactly the same to me. And I was playing close attention too, due to logging in specifically to check it. In fact, I was EXPECTING it to sound different, due to this thread.
