Working on secondhand information, so bear with me here. {also, chat logs got erased at an inopportune time. yay}
<ul type="square"> [*]Acquaintance on a laptop [*]Game crashes on startup with an error relating to atioglxx.dll[*]Bullet points are sexy[*]Runs Vista x64[*]ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650. [*]Driver dates at 8/1/2008, can't find anything newer}[*]Laptop model is Toshiba Satellite A355. [/list]
Anyone have a suggestion on what to try?

Yeah, tell the player to come post their full system reports please?

Yeah, we ran DXdiag... unfortunately she didn't know she could export the diagnostics and only mailed me a few hand-copied bits.

Grab COHHelper and HijackThis from my sig line. Have her run them and post her results here. Start working through the Common Solutions thread as well.

Also, grab the newest ATI drivers for the regular 3650, get the Mobility Modder and follow the instructions on that site to mod the newest drivers to be able to work on the laptop.

After that, yeah, the output of CoH Helper and HijackThis would be the most useful.

Also, you may want to download TweakCoH as well. This will allow you to set the graphics settings before launching the game. Look at the first post in the ATI Issues and Settings Recommendations thread that is stickied at the top of the forums. Set her video settings for the Catalyst Control Center and the game according to that post.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I have nothing to add to this until logs and such, but until then...

Sorry, there's just no way I'm going to say any man is sexy. No matter who it is. Now don't get me wrong, Jay is a heck of a nice guy, but sexy? Fuhgeddabowdit.

Eh, Jay and I have discussed it. He doesn't necessarily agree with me, but he sees my point.

He did get me to say it once, and only once, last year just before HeroCon. He sent me a file of one of the chest details that I was trying to work with to make a shirt.

True, that file didn't scale for beans so was basically useless, but he still sent it.

Of course, BAB did one better and noticed it wouldn't scale so he "whipped something up in Photoshop" that he hoped would work.

EDIT: Not the best possible photo to show off what BAB "whipped up in Photoshop", but you can see a good part of it here.

*sigh*

Must I? Really? Oh, all right, fine.

No man is sexy. There. I said it. Matter of fact, all men are pigs, ya ask me, and not just in looks.

But even I will succumb to the allure that is a forum meme... and there it was, ripe for the taking. Sue me.

/I believe we've well and done sabotaged the OP's thread. Sorry 'bout that Quinch.

Corrupt video driver install. Looking at your sound drivers, they have a corrupt installation also.

Turn off Vertical Sync and Anisotropic Filtering as well. See BillZBubba's guide for ATI settings that is stickied at the top of this forum.
