I was on an all melee itf once. While we had some issues with separating rom from the nictus and we had a bunch of death, which was mostly to the crazy stuff we did. We clear the map on the second mission and destroy all crystals at once and saw who could survive the longest. We also charged the platform.
It was one of the most fun things i´ve done so far in the game.

You Build Up, AS, Placate, 'Big Hit', run away to get back into Hide, return, repeat. You'll be squishy until your Tier 9 (or some really good IO set slotting), and you'll run away a lot. But the ability to stealth through just about anything you want (barring Rikti) is AWESOME for soloing. The only problem is that you tend to buzz through the content so quickly that you end up short on xp once you hit the late 20's-early 30's. But if you're a content junkie, a stalker is a way to see EVERYTHING in the game. It's a hoot. In terms of playing, I recommend taking Hasten and your Tier 9. They will help you get Placate/BU/AS/Tier 9 back up as quickly as possible, yet also still help your overall survivability.
And there's my thoughts on them. Hope it helped somewhat. Have fun!
I disagree with the stalker bit, once you get some more attack powers you are able to duke it out without having to run and hide.

For a solo Defender i would try Kin/ as i see you soloed dark, traps and rad already:
Kin/Sonic.
The damage buffs you get meshes well with the -res you get from your secondary.
You also get 2 travel powers, a self heal and a endurance recovery tool. Sonic also provides you with a sleep that can help setup fuclrum.
Kin/Dark
Never seen one of these around. Damage buffs will help you do more damage and the -tohit is pretty sweet. Plus it has good control as well.
Kin/ actually work with all the secondaries in my opinion, you may dislike the redraw on weapon sets though. -

A lot of the stuff you had in your build has good resale value(depending on their level.

Yes time bomb breaks the set with mez protection at level 8, an aoe hold with 1000% -regen, solid -resistance, a good immob etc.
Sigh i have to delete my traps/ toons now. -

Tank fire melee attacks do not cause foes to run. Burn causes foes to run. Burning Aura does not. (dev logic)
I had a mission in creys and decide to give jurassik a lovetap with scorch and it started running instantly -

Also, if you want a little bit more survivability, +HP and +Regen work great with defense sets. You won't notice anything from losing the psi defense. I've "tanked" a MoLRSF before with my Fort with minimal problems. -

What I know about a budget build is that it takes a limited sum of influence to make.
Now not knowing what that limit was I settled for the exclusion of Purples. This in a world where a complete beginner asks for a build to get started gets nothing but purple builds.
Eradictaion quads and tris. A miracle, 2 lotg´s etc.
Not to mention all the rare recipies which requires rare salvage and a lot of them have increased in value since last issue. -

Since I'm sick of the game, I'm only taking people that know their stuff. (Level 50's that have done the 5SF and ITF before). I'm bringing my old, classing sonic/thermal corruptor as usual. No fillers. I just wanna be done with it, get it over and forget it ever happened!
EDIT Friday: um, ok folks... There's been less than 50 players redside for a couple of days, this friday is shaping up to be as bad. I doubt it's even worth trying to get team together. With GR very far away an no info on the next issue I could go d0000m in this post. Not sure it's worth paying for GR in 6 months(?) if there's noone to play with. -

My opinons about your build:
Skip elude and DN. Pick up Weave, slot gloom.
Slot for more recovery and +end.
Possibly slot tough
Slot SL for both heal and damage.
Thats all i can think about now. -
Blinds sleep is a pseudo pet, when the placate proc triggers you wll placate the pseudo pet.

My only experince on sonic is heroside but i would till advise you on getting as much +end and +recovery as you can fit in and go for +hp and def next..
For epic i would take the opportunity and pick up the def shield and possibly web envelope from mace. -
