  1. When I'm on a character with a Stealth power, I usually have it on during missions (Except when there's a captive to escort), and when travelling between them to avoid aggro from the street mobs. But in non-combat situations like shopping at the market, I turn all my toggles off. There's just no reason to have them running there, and all it does is create lag. It's not like an ambush will get dropped on you while you're shopping, and even if it did, the markets are surrounded by an instant-kill zone.

It was like that for me, too. Between the new interface and me getting a new Alienware computer, that isn't nearly the problem it once was, but I still occasionally have an item I'm trying to sell not get posted when I click the button to post it.

No, I actually don't leave them running. I both do and do not understand the whole "powers off at the market" thing. Yeah, it's pointless to be running it, but if your computer can't handle someone running a stealth toggle at the market, how can you possibly handle, y'know, a fight in an actual mission? I turn them off just because of the possibility that it might actually cause a problem for some folks, but I suspect the main concern is that people really like to get angry about any damn fool thing they can.
That can be explained by the fact that there's a lot more going on in an open zone than there is in an instanced mission. In a mission, there's only 8 players at most to keep track of, while there can be a lot more in a zone, and so, more lag.

    So....Stamina

What "NoPhase" means is that once you turn off a Phase power (or it shuts off automatically after 30 seconds), you can't turn it on again for another 90 seconds, even if it's recharged.
  3. To me, it depends on the build whether or not a given Brute is better suited to tanking or dealing damage. My Dark/Stone Brute would be more of a tankish Brute, while my SS/Shield is more damage dealer.

Either way, Brutes as an AT are equally suited to both, depending on what the situation calls for.
  4. I have what powers I'll take on a character and when I'll take them planned out upon creation, but as far as slotting goes, I'm usually only looking a level or two ahead.
  5. I typically only monitor the things that aren't already monitored by the normal UI. On all characters, I monitor Last Hit Chance and Inf. What else I monitor depends on the character. Like Stealth Radius on my characters that use Stealth powers to see when it's suppressed (except for Stalkers. Those I just look for the "Hidden" indicator), and Damage Resistance on my MA/SR Scrapper to see how much scaling resistance I'm getting from the passives.

On any character with an IO that has a buff proc, I'll monitor the attribute it buffs. Like on my main, In addition to the Numina's Convalescence Regen/Recov in Health, I've got a Miracle +Recovery in Dark Regeneration (the rest is Touch of the Nictus) and I monitor Recovery to see when that wears off. I never really understood why some procs get an icon in the buff section of the window when they're active, but others don't.
  6. There are lv. 40+ TF's outside the Shadow Shard, too. There's the Imperious TF in Cimerora and the Lady Grey TF in the Rikti War Zone that heroes can join, as well the Dr. Kahn TF in Founders' Falls which is exclusively Blueside.
  7. I use my right hand on the arrow keys and numpad for movement and keybinds (pet commands for Masterminds, witty phrases to accompany Taunt powers on toons that have them), respectively, while my left hand handles tabbing through enemies and power activation. I rarely even use my mouse in combat situations unless there's a particular enemy in a group that needs to be targeted quickly, or I'm fighting on an outdoor map where tab-cycling would target enemies in the next spawn over.
  8. My hometown team may be down 3-2 in the series, but we've come back from far worse things to get where we are now. Go Flyers!

On the topic, I can't speak for other hockey fans or other players, but I feel that new fans of anything should be welcomed with open arms. For one, we were all newbies once, and it would be hypocritical to persecute someone who is in the same position you were once in. And second, having a lot of fans is a sign, and in some cases like this game the very definition, of success. People do want their favorite show/team/game to be successful, right?
  9. I just got one of these, too. I deleted it. And, like most others in this thread, I am neither French-speaking, nor an Aion player.
  10. My villains tend to vary on the scale, but most of them are the "seven deadly sins" type of evil, indulging their base urges without regard for who has to suffer for it. To take the current incarnation of my Five Bad Band;

Orochi Dragon (Big Bad. Ninjas/Poison Mastermind); The leader of the Yamata Clan (featured in The Serpent's Revenge), a hedonist lured into the clan by their promise of absolute freedom to indulge in all manner of vices, who took their teachings to heart to the point where he was eventually chosen as their leader, and uses his power to amass wealth, whether through outright robbery, or through mercenary work or organized crime such as drug-dealing and running various dens of iniquity.

Armorbound (The Dragon. Energy Melee/Energy Aura Stalker); A medieval sorcerer who dispatched a romatic rival knight by binding his soul to his own armor, motionless for all eternity. When the his allies came to avenge him, the sorceror used the same spell on himself to transfer his own soul into a suit of armor, this one designed to be able to move under its own power. Despite this, he was defeated and locked away by the knight's brother, wearing the armor containing his soul. Now, in modern-day Paragon City and the Rogue Isles, the armor containing the knight's soul is the source of my main hero Spectreblade's abilities, and Armorbound, having escaped his imprisonment, seeks to complete his vengeance by destroying both the armor and its wearer. Since his return, Armorbound has found the dark art of soul transfering to be quite profitable, and regularly kidnaps victims and creates artifacts and weapons powered by their souls to sell to magically-inclined villain groups like the Hellions, while selling the de-souled bodies to Dr. Vahzilok for his experiments.

Accretion Black (Evil Genius. Gravity Control/Fiery Assault Dominator); An alien scout who came to Earth looking for another planet for his race to conquer. This one isn't quite as fleshed-out as my two main villains above, but he's about as evil as one would expect from an alien conqueror.

Mighty Cronus (The Brute. Super Strength/Shield Defense Brute); A massive mutant with an even more massive entitlement complex. A steadfast believer in the philosophy of "Might Makes Right", he feels that his strength puts him above such things as law and morals, and will take every opportunity to throw his weight around and selfishly lord his strength over all he surveys.

Curse of Anubis (The Dark Chick. Dark Blast/Dark Miasma Corruptor); An ancient Egyptian Pharaoh whose tomb was looted by robbers, destroying his mummified body in the process. With the body destroyed, his soul was doomed to an eternity of decay. Until one day, the tomb was re-discovered by a modern archaeologist. Seizing the opportunity for a second chance, he possessed the archaeologist's body and escaped from his tomb. Unfortunately, by this point his soul had deteriorated to the point where he had become completely insane. With no hope of redemption left, he gave in to his corruption, and now exists only to wreak mindless havoc upon the world of the living.

I also have my main heroes in a Five Man Band ensemble, but that's a post for another thread.
  11. I think having a moderator on duty at all times would be the best solution to this. Other people have already explained the reasoning behind it better than I can. Something like RMT spam shouldn't be allowed to remain up for as long as it has.

    Energy Aura?

I have a Lv. 50 EM/EA/Leviathan Stalker, and I seem to do okay with him. It does seem to be more geared toward Stalkers than Brutes. The Stalker version has the standard Hide instead of Energy Cloak, and Repulse instead of Dampening Field. Sometimes I wish the Stalker version got Dampening Field instead of the unwieldy toggle of Repulse for a little extra mitigation. PBAoE toggles tend to be unwieldy for Stalkers in general, as Dark Armor Stalkers can attest to even more so than Energy Aura. Though I often wondered, isn't having Repulse on one and Dampening Field on the other a violation of the Cottage Rule?

Anyway, I used to have a Stamina-less build on my Stalker with Repulse, Stealth, and Combat Jumping, but I respecced out of those three powers and into the Fitness pool because I only used Repulse to juggle bosses when soloing (Which Water Spout from the Leviathan Mastery pool did a better job of, and is more team-friendly with Knockup instead of Knockback), I didn't need Stealth since don't PvP as much as I used to, and didn't need Combat Jumping to unlock Super Jump now that I have the Vet Reward that allows me to take a travel power without it.

For me, a lot of my EM/EA Stalker's mitigation comes not from the defense set, but from being able to take out the most threatening enemies through EM's high burst damage, and solo fights tend to be short enough for enemies to not be able to get many hits in. I have both Energy Drain and Conserve power, in addition to Stamina, so Endurance is no issue at all to him, even in long fights, but I would take something other than the Fitness pool if I could think of something that would suit my needs better.

Stopping to ask the team leader if he wants some random person I don't have a clue about is not going to happen.
I'm the type of player that's rarely leading a team, too, and I can understand the frustration of getting a request I'm in no position to properly respond to. I typically ignore such requests as well (though I won't /ingore the sender or chew them out for it). Whether it constitutes rudeness, that I'm not quite sure.

When I'm looking for a team, first I'll ask on my SG channel if there are any SG teams running. If not, I'm usually content to solo, but in cases where I feel I must have a team, my next step will be to set my flag to "Looking for mission team." My last resort when I absolutely must have social interaction to go with my gaming is to send a message out on Broadcast between solo missions.

I don't send tells to random players to get on a team. While the person sending it usually doesn't care which team they get on, sending a private tell makes it seem otherwise. In Broadcast, it's "I want to join a team," but when done through a Tell, it comes out as "I want to join YOUR team," whether intentionally or not.

It would be understandable that some would see the latter as more of an intrusion than the former, but I don't think it's entirely the sender's fault. I'd support a revamp of the team search window that would have a way of designating who are leading teams that are looking for more members so they wouldn't have to waste both their own time and that of the recipients of their tells.
  14. Usually, if I play a character enough to reach the level where they can buy SO's, they're pretty much safe from the chopping block. The only exception to this was my Dark/Stone Brute, who I rerolled at Lv. 26 from a Natural origin to a Science origin to better fit the revised backstory I gave him for my AE arc From the Abyss.

But even then, I'll only delete a character to make room for a new one.
  15. I don't have any rep at all here, positive or negative. It's probably because I tend to keep a low profile, both online and in real life. It doesn't do much for my social life, but at least it keeps me out of trouble.

    Acrobatics

On my namesake character (Broadsword/Dark Armor Scrapper), I fill the knockback protection hole with a Karma -KB IO in Parry. That seems to take care of most sources of knockback for me.

    Double exp?

I don't know any more than anyone else does about when the next Double XP weekend is going to be. I haven't taken off work just for a Double XP weekend, but the first day of the last one just happened to fall on my birthday, and I'd already taken off that Friday anyway before I even knew it was going to be a Double XP weekend to recover from whatever festivities would be taking place (those festivities never materialized, though. The cake was a lie ). My work schedule is pretty standard (weekdays 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM), so I'm off on weekends anyway.

Where I work, we submit leave requests by quarter, so I know what it's like to have to ask for time off well in advance. We just had our chance to put in for time off during the July-September quarter, and I put in for a week in mid-July, for which approval is still pending. The main reason is because an old friend of mine is going to be in town that week and I want to be able to spend some time with her while she's here, but I'll probably be getting in some time in-game during that vacation, too.
  18. Most of the arcs I play I find through forum sigs and such.
  19. The same way you came in. There's a portal right there that will take you to a number of different zones.
  20. I play with the AE occasionally for stories. I mostly play Dev Choice and Guest Author arcs, with the occasional one I spot in a forum-goer's signature, and have created a few (They're in my sig).

I wish the search engine did a better job, too. It's so hard for the good arcs that aren't Dev Choice to get noticed, and that is just as frustrating for their creators as it is to players. My first arc, From the Abyss, has gotten only 12 ratings in the whole time it's been up, which was shortly after AE was launched. And my other one had 7 ratings before I took it down to revise it for I17, and since then the only rating the new version has is a 5-star from the SG-mate I duo-ed it with for him to proofread.

When I've created arcs, I advertise them in my signature, in the "announce your latest creation here" threads in the Architect sections of the forums, and on the Virtue server forum's Arc list, and via LiveJournal's MA community. Are there any other was to get my arcs noticed?

Seconded! (After all, look at my location.)

Though I personally would like to see a Meet and Greet at Wizard World since I could get to the Convention Center by public transportation, I do see the merit in a midwestern location. Maybe one at Wizard World could be something to consider for future Meet and Greets, though.

    i17 nerfs?

SO enhancements decreasing in effectiveness as your level increases has nothing to do with ED. ED only affects having multiples of the same type of enhancement in the same power, kicking in at about 3 SO's worth. Individual non-IO enhancements have always lost effectiveness as you outgrow them for as long as the game has existed.
  23. I figured that since my revisions were only to add more of things we could do before the patch (None of the new features. Just more of the existing ones) that the local arc file would only produce an error message when accessed in-game to edit them, like it normally does when you go over the file size limit, and prevent the published version on live from being played due to the critters I added to the enemy group (none of which are Demon Summoners). I thought that because of that, it wouldn't cause a crash, but apparently I was wrong.

I'm downloading I17 to my live client now. Hopefully, that will resolve the issue.

UPDATE: The problem has been fixed. Once the I17 patch was downloaded and applied, the game worked fine, and I was able to join my SG-mates in running the new Positron TF's.
  24. I've been running into a problem getting into the game this evening. I have been planning to revise one of my Mission Architect arcs, and in preparation for I17 going live tomorrow, I copied the contents of the costumes, Custom_Critter, CustomVillainGroup, and missions folders from my test client Program Files to their counterparts in the live client files. And now when I try to start the live client, it crashes at the loading screen (after the updater finishes, but before I can enter my login info). Upon looking in the beta forums, I came across this warning in a thread there.

    Quote:
Known Issue: If you create a Mission Architect mission in this Beta and attempt to use it on the Live servers, it is likely your game will crash.
While my live client now crashes, my test client is working fine.

So my question is, when I17 goes live tomorrow, will this problem be fixed with the patch, or is there something else I have to do to get my live client to work again?
  25. Yeah, it's City of Lag tonight for me. Twice already my client crashed as I approached the site of a GM or AV battle. I don't think I'll be getting a yellow title today .
