Here's my money-is-no-object DB/SR dream build. Gapless, unless Mid's is lying to me.
No 1kcuts, but I guess you could swap out vengeful strike, moving Hasten down. You'd lose the option to fall back on BF-AV for exemp purposes if you did that, though. And I think you do more AoE spamming BF-TE-SS over and over than chaining BF-1kcuts.

Quote:I really wish they'd burn that stupid cottage to the ground.I think the one big hurdle to overcome is the Cottage rule, which I believe is still in effect for the powers team even if Castle isn't with the studio anymore.
Love the idea some kind of in-combat TP ability. Tactical Teleport in particular. Would make a great addition to the TP Pool on it's own. -
I have no issue with it, even if I've been on the recieving end of such warnings several times. It keeps the channel clear of chatter that could interfere with the intended funtion, and there's plenty of general-purpose channels for any and all sorts of discussion.
As long as there's an initial warning for off-topicness ("hey folks, take that convo elsewhere please" or whatever), it's not too much moderation. -
The Matrix Room as a staging ground is a great idea and needs to be done. Ideally, this place could be accessed directly from Ouroboros or Atlas/GVille.

Quote:It's only diminishing returns if you look at it in terms of actual defence numbers (which would mean bugger all under this system). It's not really diminishing returns, because each point of Defence Rating would be as valuable as the previous one, and as the next one. In other words, since you're not collecting IO bonuses with +3.75% S/L Defence but rather IO bonuses with +5 S/L D.Rating, there is no loss (or gain) of value as you stack each point. Except perhaps compared to getting increased resistance or something. I think layering protections would be unusually powerful under a system like this one.Let's say we go from a Defence Rating of 20 to a Rating of 25 and compare that to going from a Defence Rating of 195 to a rating of 200. I'll save you the calculations and give you the results straight away:
20 = 0% defence
25 = 10% defence
195 = ~44.87% defence
200 = 45% defence
See the difference? Gaining 5 points of Defence Rating when you're at the base ups your effective defence by a full 10%, whereas going 5 points up from 195 to 200 ups your defence by less than 0.2%. That's a decrease of 50 times. I really don't see such a severe case of diminishing returns as being very fare. -
That's a sure-fire way to make a horrifyingly unbalanced mess of a system. Open systems need to compare possible power combinations versus possible power combinations. Otherwise you get unforseen synergies that create massively UP and OP combinations. Even CoH, with the restriction of power sets and ATs, sees a lot of this.

One of the Cimeroran Cave maps. It has a big dead-end room (the sort that has the columns and cobbled floors) with four pools of water. I think it's available on MA, but I don't know the name.

Quote:I felt that way on my DM/SD, the heavy single-target focus meant that all I did in teams was find a boss, punch 'em once or twice and by then everything was dead.
Another cool thing about picking either electric or fire for your primary is you can easily make your friend's single target specialist feel bad when fighting standard mobs
Then I got Shield Charge, and that feeling went away. Replaced by something warm and fuzzy and giggle-inducing.
So yeah, get some good AoE. It'll be fun, we promise. -
Awesomesauce. Thanks to the Mid's team for keeping up the good work!

I noticed something a bit funny when I last teamed up in Praetoria: Every now and again something was causing orange numbers to appear on my teammates' heads. Didn't think much of it at the time (assumed it was a display bug of some sort), but I'm guessing this was the cause.
My best guess is that the devs wanted to test this mechanic for something or other and left it in, like that one mission with the underwater swimming . *Shrug* -
Quote:And now I have a new favourite sentence of the week. Excellent.
it's full-on, out-in-the-open, red-hot raging power-armored-scientist-on-departed-spirit action here
Quote:So...um...it's probably because I'm a clueless guy, but what exactly is the purpose of shipping again? From what I can infer it's just arguing on forums about who should get together and drawing fan art. It doesn't really seem to accomplish anything. I'm not trying to be rude here, I'm just curious!

Quote:We do know of some differences that occurred before 19-whatever. Praetorian Nemesis has been stated to have died "a simple clock-maker". That would have happened sometime in the mid-late 1800s. I know, I know, this is Nemesis. But still.
Cole's act of killing Richter on Praxidae isn't necessarily time zero for where the history of the two worlds diverge. We really don't know if Praetorian prehistory is the same as that of Primal prehistory.
I suspect someone or something has gone to some pains to eliminate Magic from Praetorian Earth. We know the Rikti managed to do so in their own dimension, so it's not that improbable. The suspicious lack of magical forces amongst the IDF makes me think this, mostly. If Cole thought he'd be able to control mystics sufficiently well, he most certainly would have tried*. The other major suspect would be the Hamidon, I suppose. At least, I think I remember him being semi-magical in origin. Maybe it or Cole didn't want the competition?
*And Arachnos seems to have a pretty decent monopoly on the Mu mystics... It's all a pretty weird affair, to be honest -
Build: DB/SR
Price Range: Below 2 billion. Numina/Miracle, multiple LotGs. No PVPIOs, no purples.
Goals: Softcap, a spot of recharge and then pile on HP.
Weaknesses: Enemy hit buffs, relatively low damage (can still solo pylons pre-incarnate, though).
Incarnate: Optional.

Side-scrolling beat 'em up.

I use 1-5, alt+1-5, qef, and alt+qef for click powers. I also have a ninja run <-> combat jumping bind on c and Sprint on alt+c on most characters. Anything else, I just click.
The only character I have trouble with is my MM, who uses up a whole lot of button real estate with /petcom binds. -
If you can wrangle the slots for it, 6-slotting Aim or Targetting Drone with a full Gaussian's set would get you 2.5% to all positionals.
-
Ah yes. Ye olde markete dayes.
*puffs pipe*
This thread has brought back memories of my first ever purple drop. It was on my first 50, who wasn't even 50 then. She'd just hit 48 and was fighting Carnies. I remember that quite clearly. A Ragnarok dam/rech, it was. It sold for 45 million and funded her entire build, with plenty left over. 'Course, these were the days before Reward Merits, before the ITF, even, when people ran Speed Katies and cursed their luck when they got yet another Sting of the Manticore or Crap of the Hunter.
Man, those days sure sucked. -
Quote:I have - he gives you some rikti drones (three I think) as well as a rifle with a number of charges.
It can be fun to pull out the rifle.
How did you get the void gun?
Psimon Omega's arc in Nerva gives it. I love pulling it out next to Khelds. Usually gets a reaction -
I've tried playing buffers several times, and the tedium of rebuffing is more that I can stand. The only reason my /therm got to 48 is the fact that most teams don't need the shields in the first place. From this angle, modifying the buff system would be an excellent thing.
But there's a flipside. As is, you can say "no SB/shields please" and not get them. There are legitimate reasons to not wanting these buffs: SB's +run makes smalls caves and council bases even more annoying, and some (few, fortunately) people colour their shields in ways that I find painful to look at*. So the question is, where's the easy opt-out option for the AoE mode of these buffs?
*I'm not speaking metaphorically. Thermal shields in particular can cause extreme discomfort. -
I'll be blunt: Not that cheap, very much not cheerful:
-Low ranged def.
-No Steadfast Res/Def. If building defense-based toons had a cardinal sin, this would be it.
-Underslotted Storm Kick and Cobra Strike. These are bread-and-butter attacks, they want to be 6-slotted.
-No health enhancement in True Grit. You're missing out on a lot of health, there.
-3-slotted health. If you'd put the Numi/Miracle uniques in there, it'd be gravy. 3 Common Heal IOs? Not so much.
-OwtS is way overslotted. It's recharge cannot be enhanced in any way, so it's best left with a single Res IO. Two, tops.
-The defense from Phalanx Fighting cannot be enhanced, no point putting any slots in it.
I could go on, but... yeah.
'Course, I'm not going to rag on your build without offering an alternative, so here:

Code:Same powers, similar slotting, about the same cost. It may look pricier, but those Kin. Combat triples ain't cheap, and mine uses a LotG +rech less (although I'd suggest replacing all the LotG: def/rech with +rech if you decide to stick with the toon). In a pinch, the Numina unique can go, the Miracle can too if the pinch is bad, and of course the LotG in Phalanx can as well.| Copy & Paste this data into Mids' Hero Designer to view the build | |-------------------------------------------------------------------| |MxDz;1361;640;1280;HEX;| |78DA65935973124114857B5824EC4B4012498004B248C88494BE5B6AB44A2B58B12| |87D70C3113A61748A500356A94FFE062D8DEB9BEB4F7349F41FE09D7B1A24355350| |DFCCE9D3DD67FADEA93FD98A08F1FC9CD062172DA3DF6F365AB6D1EB493B70CD183| |CB60D4B048410B991DAAC4B4B4ABD6ED803D3B09AE7ED41BF301EDB92BBB2DB977A| |A3634AAB3D7A4C5EE976A42DBB037D7413D9D9DFB7F46D69F4CCEE5E881F1A3D29D| |B51BEBD6CEE750634101FB9DAD2EE77CC5EEA52CF6CE9172CE3996CD68DFE40DA4F| |6728DA12FD5F3919F91AFAC52DC28AA8DC66ACDF01EE02F7189B4D46284AD0D4AC9| |0E6482B31C0074C312A55318183809A44B3B45D963C1D608F913019CB0F81478C30| |EDE5C55E5E6F9297F5A581042331CD8890CFAF32F96FB074E226701D8606238630B| |12C3DCD8BB794094730F405EEF3C8D403A0C588B4190B9211A54D82B07B826B388B| |6338498B85914284F32C65498A628E880EE912317A8C6B1A2BF10536BD2753529D4| |D127548A10E29D4218D3AA4518732EA10A785A6D56ED3197EBD455A28A3126654A6| |63784386ACDA29FBC9E348339F812F8CFC57E01B63E13BE303CD9A55B3667F789CA| |33BF50BF8C998FB0D1C32F2478C04E5CBA97C39BCA816700620CDF3697C24A5A04A| |5040098A28411125281E2B4192D65C54491691A4840825042A21491949CA48928AA| |2DF9D6D97D0015EDA775535D66A850FEFB40EAC0379B419F9D6946F0D0D58450356| |D180553460927CBAF2E9F06DC0B701DF067CEFC85753516A7C0273BEF147483F472| |9F8C61FD8B0E21AADB9944D9772C6A59C7529DB2E65C737FE4485C64A30419F1F94| |E1618846B5C9D13F93CA557EBD2397E9EF7FC5AB1D703B2DBF666CBE045E30FE014| |0ABE50B| |-------------------------------------------------------------------|
I put this build together in a bit of a hurry, so there'll be room for improvement. If you want to reduce costs, another idea would be to swap out the LotG sets for Gift of the Ancients. Cheaper, and will help a lot with endurance issues. Actually, that might be the first thing I'd do if I wanted to cheapen the build.
