Ironically, I read the forums a lot, know a lot of about what I'm doing... and I picked this combination in an attempt to do the exact opposite everything I know.
  3. I used to have the problem the OP had. Then IO's came out.

When I started digging into into IOs and min/max-ing builds, I found myself playing through the first 30 levels as fast as possible and focusing my efforts on the last 15 levels and beyond.

I find I solo for the first 35 levels and start to team more and more in the later game.

Nowadays I solo to level up my current project... usually playing through dev content, reading stories as I go at no real rush. I keep my costume fresh and interesting (to me anyway) and frequently tweak the build along the way with new enhancements funded by my market endeavors.

When someone on a global channel decides to start a high level content team, I switch to whichever 50 I feel like playing, then go back to the level up solo project when that team finishes/breaks up.

I think the big difference between where I was before, unable to make it much past 35 and where I am today is a better network of teaming opportunities for end game content, and a desire to make post-50 uber builds.

for these uber vets, i have 3 question! what toons have you been playing for all this time? have you played one from when you started till now? whats your favourite build?
I have my 5 year badge.

    1) I started as a defender on a regular team with my roomates.. once they quit, I found myself wanting more solo ability. I went with a tanker until I decided I wanted more damage... I went with a scrapper and played scrappers and or brutes (mostly scrappers) for the next 4 years. I do have a blaster who I essentually play like a scrapper.

    2) Eh.. ok no. But yes in that I generally play 1 toon at a time... each one for 3-5 months.

    3) Difficult to say as it's whatever I'm playing (or more accurately I play whatever my favorite build is)... A few high points: DB/SR scrapper, DM/Shield scrapper, Fire/Mental Blaster. I like to do damage. I've always liked stone melee but haven't played one to 50 yet.

I've got Power Sink slotted with 3 rech/3 end mod and Lightning Field slotted with 2 acc/2 dam/2 end mod which allows me to keep most groups attacking substantially less than they normally would without all of my end drain, which is a great boon when I'm fighting anything that isn't energy damage.

I've only just recently gotten Power Surge, but I can honestly say, from what little experimentation I've done with it, that it's quite easily one of the best tier 9 god modes I've ever dealt with. All you have to do is make sure you've got Power Sink and Energize up and you'll be fine and dandy to deal with the crash, which has the added benefit of pretty much anything near you in case you don't have either of those powers up.

Of course, all of this comes from my experiences on a Tanker, which means I'm getting a much greater benefit out of the mondo huge amounts of energy resistance as well as a greater benefit from Energize, so I'm not so sure how it applies to Elec Armor Scrappers.

I started building a stone/elec brute with a similar strategy. I'm going for maximum recharge to get power surge and other click powers up faster. Also, stone has some good active mitigation. Brutes have access to different epic pools, too that add some interesting concepts for survival. The other thing I really like about this concept is that the buffs I get from teams will actually give me a benifit. Teams typically bring lots of +defense buffs, and -tohit debuffs. Most of my toons don't benifit from that at all. +Resist buffs will be more significant since a boost from 50% to 70% is a lot more noticable then 0% to 20%.

The thing that really sold me on stone/electric was the huge amounts of endurance I could grab to fuel some very expensive stone attack chains... and +recharge seems to be doing double duty both on the damage output andn the survival.

At the moment, I think my toon is level 8... not much exprience yet, but I like the theory... I don't think he'll be a solo monster... but I do thnk he'll be a fun toon.

Step 1. Go down to your local hardware store and buy yourself the 2 of the biggest friggin sledgehammers they sell... something in the 10-12 lb range is what we're looking for.
Step 2. Buy a helmet. Any helmet will do. Football helmet, motorcycle helmet... something solid, not a toy.
Step 3. Buy/or Download any song by the music group "Disturbed"
Step 4. Turn up the music as loud as it can possibly go.
Step 5. Scream "I AM A PRETTY HATE MACHINE" at the top of your lungs 3 times.
Step 6. Find a wall and put on your helmet.
Step 7. Alternately, apply the hammers and head to the wall at high velocity until the wall gives up.
Step 8. Repeat steps 5-7 until something noteworthy happens.
  7. The major premise of the OP is that this attack costs the same as an AoE but doesn't work as well as an AoE. However, it DOESN'T cost the same as an AoE, so I still fail to see the problem here.
  8. When looking to power pools on a claws regen.. the first place i'd go is to the speed pool for hasten.
  9. In reguards to targets dieing disrupting the jump... that doesn't really hold water when comparing it to an AoE. Fact is, the target's dead... hitting it with an AoE wouldn't do any damage either. Granted, it could have hit 3 instead of 1 if it jumped a 2nd time, etc... but small melee AoEs miss a lot of hit opportunities do to team play... I don't think there's that big of a discrepency.

However, I agree 100% that this power should not cost the same as an AoE. It also should cost more then a ST because it can hit multiple targets.

Thing is.. that's where it's at. Compared to Typhoon's Edge and The Lotus Drops, it's damage output per endurance is better. And it's slightly less efficient then Flashing Steel (a cone attack). It's a pretty expenseive single target, and Electric Melee seems to need to use it as a single target attack. But the endurance cost/damage seems balanced to me.
  10. I play on infinity.... I pick-up team 100% of the time i'm teaming, although I solo quite a bit, too.

I'd suggest you join these global channels:

AE Anonymous, Infinity Badges, Infinity Hamidon.

There's a few others out there, but those 3 get the most use.

AE Anonymous is a fairly new channel that has a lot of constant chatter and team forming. (and there's a sticky about it on the infinity forum) I think that's probably your best bet right now for joining a pick-up team on Infinity. Although you might not get the exact content you want if you're not forming the team yourself. The active members are a pretty diverse spectrum of newer players and vets.

    Serious Question

I don't play with the AE builder much.. but you can still make those challenges right? They're just not worth as much XP now... Which shouldn't be a big deal if your toon is already maxed out... unless of course you were PLing someone else.
  12. It depends a lot on your toon's powers. But my expirience (mostly with damage toons) is that +1 is going to be faster exp then +0 or -1.
  13. Out of curiosity... what difficulty do you run as "invinciable" since the difficulty ratings are different now.
  14. I like Broadsword... but they gotta give us some GIANT swords.. AND proliferate the 2 handed animations from katana to BS.... A 2-handed giant sword wielding brute would be my new favorite toon immediately.

    /SD Weakness?

Also... /Shield does suffer from the same problem as /SR, though less so. If you trick out a /DA, /Fire, or /Willpower well enough... you could ask "why play shields."

That's a very good point. Outside of saturated soul drain for DM, those sets are the tops in terms of damage output. (spines being AoE, not single target).

All this with reasonable endurance toggles. I did a quick and dirty build of /SD and got capped melee and ranged def w/40% AOE def; 30% s/l res w/20%(approx) res everything else, 10 or more status prot in all but taunt, placate, and teleport; 65% res def debuff; and 220% Regen/155% Recov. All this with a built-in (Against All Odds) boost to primaries. I really hope I'm missing something. *scratches head and wonders why first char was /SR*

edited: let me rephrase that.. play your scrapper however you want... but a high number of people you will see here build thier scrappers in a way that they are WAY more survivable then a stalker.
  19. I like the original build for economy and not needing the fighting pool. Building from there, you can improve endurance by using the +recovery uniques to slot in health (Miracle and Numina's). I'd also pick up a performance shifter proc to put in stamina.

Eventually as you gain more influence you can 4 slot luck of the gambler's in your toggle defenses and pick up some good set bonuses (+regen, +accuracy, and +recharge.)
  20. A few weeks ago I was digging into /WP pretty heavy. It is possible to soft cap positional defenses with most sets while maintaining 40+ recharge... Kinetic combats are very helpful... The hardest thing to boost is energy/negative... 3 thunderstrikes (Ranged damge)... 3 eradications (PBAoE damage) help there. Also, you can grab a little for a few slots with Blessing of the Zephyr in your travel power.

Mocking Beratement is a taunt set that gives 2.5 smash/lethal and 3.13 fire/cold. That's pretty handy as well.

In order to get to softcaps you have to sacrifice some of the standard +heals and +hps in Willpower, so it's up to you if that's really what you want... but my point is, that it IS in fact possible to have a feasible build with soft capped to typed defenses with /willpower.

(note: i'm ignoreing psi as one of those types... but the build I have in front of me while writing this has 27.3 defense to psi, and 45.3 resistance to psi.. so it's still pretty solid vs psi enemies... just not as solid as vs everything else).

    New Scrapper

I was looking at an electric/invul build last week focusing on soft capping typed defenses. I was more then impressed with what was possible. /invul is also kind of an under played set I think.

/Shield adds mitigation and damage, so that's an obvious option also... but it's very common these days for the same reasons.
  22. I do this sometimes.. except instead of posting a thread, I PM myself with builds and other information. That method leaves much less opportunity for public ridicule.

    AE Anonymous!

It's been a while, but I've seen this server do 10 rikti raids in a row on a Sunday afternoon. All it takes is someone to lead the next one after one gets over... usually enough people show up to take over for the ones who left. And a rikti raid doesn't actually require 3-4 full teams.

Welcome to the game. I think what you're looking for here is a Superstrength Brute, after footstomp.

For secondary, I could say a lot of different options and describe how to build each one to become more invincible then all the others.... but for simplicity I'm just going to say take super reflexes. I'm sure others will fill you in on other options and why.
  25. If I'm on, I'm always up for a lvl 50 TF. Best times for me is 9pm - 11pm central. I bring damage... lots of damage.
