New player seeking advice
1. Don't build for PvP. PvP in this game is undergoing a transition and you'll be pulling out your hair trying to put together a build that does well in both. With that said, defensive based scappers (shield, super reflexes) do worse in PvP than those that are resistance based or based on regeneration. If you're still intent on PvP'ing at 50, then build your character on Freedom server - they have the most active PvP population.
2. There are a lot of good AoE based builds that are melee based. Characters with the fire, electric and spines primary with dark, shield, fire and electric secondaries all do very well (I'm probably missing a combination or two).
3. Dark/Dark will be just fine, though it will be more single target focused than the combinations I already mentioned. Focus on endurance recovery (starting with making sure you have endurance reduction enhancers in your attacks and toggles), melee defense (when you're getting into IO bonuses) and recharge. Dark/Dark will do mediocre to bad in PvP, but will do extremely well in PvE. The builds that people mention for PvP are
Broadsword/Regen and Fire Melee/Regen.

well from the sounds of it, you want a PvP centric melee based toon with alot of AoE capeability ... your current DM/DA is nice and is a soft control beast and a Single Target monster, not what your looking for in your description
as such i'll delve a'bit into the PvP spectrum,
on the Protection side (scrappers secondary), even though Def tends to dominate in the PvE area, it really seems to faulter in PvP, and Res tends to not sustain too well in the long run and often has a weak point built in, in general it's a common point of view that Regen tends to be the strongest in PvP due to its constant high rate of incomeing health reguardless of what the source of damage was.
on the Offensive side (scrappers primary), quite simply put, as it's the best AoE intensive as'well as haveing ranged attacks that can take down flyers and slow movement, a standard Build-Up, and long animations on attacks (the longer the attack animation is, the more damage it does in PvP), Spines would be ideal for you
to sum up, your best option (as far as scrappers go) to fit your design criteria is ...
Spines/Regen
Hello all
a) in an ideal world, i would like a toon based on strong AoE powers. i just enjoy the challenge of hearding a load of mobs and nuking them all down without dying |
For secondary, I could say a lot of different options and describe how to build each one to become more invincible then all the others.... but for simplicity I'm just going to say take super reflexes. I'm sure others will fill you in on other options and why.
I gotta make pain. I gotta make things right. I gotta stop what's comin'. 'Least I gotta try.

thanks to everyone for the advice, Regen seems to be the secondary of choice for pvp from other posts so i'll try that.
just thinking between fire or spines for primary as they seem to have the AoE potential.

sorry about the multiple posts. you're right, it is a bad habit from WoW

Thanks to all again
i'm really enjoying the look and feel of dark melee at the moment. i tried spines but the look seems out of place. couldn't think of a way of integrating it. fire was nice as well but i just love the idea of draining of DM/DA. reminds me of warlock mentality
out of interest, what secondary would work best in a AoE and pvp situation with DM? i'm guessing DM/Regen?

dont forget electric / electric in pvp can be doable as well.
on a scrap also very aoe friendly.
1. very hard to run out of endurance.
2. tpfoe dont work on electric armor.
just slot with lots of regen and recharge.
it can kill the spines regen scraps and fire/fire tanks quite easily when they dont have endurance. hehe

I personally went fire/dark armour for my "herd them up and nuke them" beast, but dark armour is really one of those sets that require a lot of attention/tweaking.
Though just like most sets, once slotted right it can become unbeatable. Plus dark regeneration is your best friend

Hello all
i started COX a few months ago. i was a former WoW player with an 80 feral druid specced for pvp
my issue at the moment is choosing an AT and powersets. there's just so much to choose from! i'm sure as i play, i will learn more about these, but it's very daunting at the moment. i'd appreciate any advice based on some points below if possible:
a) i would like to be a tanker, scrapper or brute as i've always liked melee toons more than ranged or support classes
a) in an ideal world, i would like a toon based on strong AoE powers. i just enjoy the challenge of hearding a load of mobs and nuking them all down without dying
c) i also want to get into the pvp aspect of the game at 50 as much as possible. my style of pvp always seemed to be about outlasting the opponent as opposed to bursting but i'll try anything.
at the moment, i have a dark/dark scrapper at lvl 7. i had a concept and liked the fact there was a dark Ancillary power pool for scrappers to complete the concept.
any feedback would be appreciated. my apologies if this information has been covered else where
