  1. Any enemy that's 47+ (can drop level 50 recipes) has a chance to drop a purple. One of my alts has well over a billion and a fully slotted build, but that was mostly by crafting and selling IO's. One method is to buy the recipe and salvage for an IO for 6 million and then sell it for 12 million after crafting. (Just as an example.)

The market section of the forums has more comprehensive info on making inf through the markets, but basically it comes down to buy (find) low and sell high.

Keep in mind that while you can get some pretty nice color effects with Dark Blast they will still be fairly dark looking. Tenebrous Tentacles is always mostly blackish with colored accents and tints, and the other powers are always deeply tinted versions of the selected colors. Still, it's very nice, and a very effective set; just a bit darkity-dark dark dark looking.

FF/Dark is a very effective combo, but FF's lack of damage boosting powers, and Dark's lack of Aim do make it a bit slower for soloing than most other sets. On the other hand Rad/Dark soloes very, very well in my experience.
  5. Spines/(Elec-Ninjutsu-SR depending on AT or preference) with leaping and weapon mastery or mace (IIRC, and again depending on AT) would work fairly well.

i like Spines/Nin or SR Stalkers with leaping for emulating hunting spiders, but that's just me. The insectoid costume pieces and monstrous legs would make for a fine spiderlike appearance, depending on how much you actually want to look like one.

(Suggesting Spines largely because Impale has an immobilize component that could be explained as being almost like webbing an opponent in place.)

Or maybe because I have been going through a rash of lowbie content lately with a lot of new characters. *shrugs*
Could be all those things. i expect my experience is different because even on lowbie teams i usually end up teaming with skilled players drawn from four global channels. The tank+healer types are usually a minority of the team who tend to express surprise or outrage when they see how the team works without using the expected (to them) strategies. The ones who express surprise tend to join in after a few fights, and a surprising number of the outraged players quit because we're doing it wrong. It doesn't even seem to matter that we're rolling through the enemies at a good pace either.

The other half is red and blue lasers.

IIRC most of the "young" faces were originally added as Asian style faces during the issue that gave CoH a lot of the Asian-themed costume pieces. i think this was around the time NCsoft had high hopes for the release of City of Hero in Korea. Which unfortunately didn't catch on there as hoped.

Uh, i play mostly blueside, and generally with people who are very experienced with the game, but i almost never see that behavior. The "hey, let me try something" or "hey guys watch this!" is far more common. Actually, it's more like the team pauses to assess the enemy, and then the debuffs and controls get thrown as the Tanker (if any) and other melee types charge into the fray. Lather, rinse, repeat. Particularly tough enemies or rooms may cause a longer pause to plan or pull a few groups, but it's hardly the norm.

Get rid of it, it's just a source of bile and trolling.

I'll point out that I have no problem with people enjoying it. If you like it, good for you. I don't like it, and I don't like being the unwilling target of your "fun" so I turned off the system. My problem is that it doesn't turn off. I still get the comments.

It has nothing to do with the thickness of my skin, you DO NOT have the right to get your jollies at my expense. Suggesting that somehow I am in the wrong for not wanting to put up with the abuse is ridiculous. It's victim blaming.
Why do you keep reading the comments? i think i've read the rep comments maybe three or four times since they implemented it. The negative comments i've generally ignored, since they are almost always incoherent blips of bile, and the positive are nice, but hardly a source of pride. (At least 75% of the negative comments have also been ranked grey, so they don't really do anything to the meter. *shrug*) Honestly, i have no idea why you keep reading them if you hate them so much...
AFAIK no one forces you to read them every time you log into the forums, or at all for that matter.

Trick or Treating is tough though at low levels without a team, especially when a boss shows.
This is what confused me as well when i saw the thread title.
i was thinking "What? My 15+ characters actually find it much easier."
My lowbies vary in how well they do in the event. Not surprisingly, the one that's had the easiest time is my lil Mastermind, who last night went from 14 to 18 in a couple hours with a team. Getting Freezing Rain made it even better.

I know you said first name, but this Waldo is pretty famous too:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_Waldo_Emerson
There's also Waldo Farthingwaite-Jones from the 1942 short story by Robert A. Heinlein, "Waldo". Which lead to the remote manipulators used in real world isolation labs being referred to as waldoes.

    Your work here is done.

For anyone who doesn't know and reads this thread because they want to know...

From the wiki section on merit rewards:
    Quote:
Completing Story Arcs is not subject to diminishing returns. This includes completing multiple different Story Arcs, and flashing back repeatedly to the same Story Arc.
Completing Ouroboros Task/Strike Forces is also not subject to diminishing returns, since they are not true Task or Strike Forces. They follow the Story Arc rules
So doing story arcs in Ouroboros gives full merits, and you can run them as often as you like, over and over.

Your idea intrigues me. Tell me more.
  18. i find it useful in that i have a free power pick at 32. Most Defender sets have annoyingly desirable powers in the primary that become available at 32. Traps avoids this pitfall by having Time Bomb. Brilliant!

Edit: Of course it may be my fault since i have a very mobile playstyle on my Traps/Dark for a set that has so many fixed location effects. Gradually walking Acid Mortars forward when the team encounters one of the rooms or intersections of death is rather entertaining. Of course it helps that Acid Mortar has a fairly respectable aggro and attack range. Love that *foomp* sound.

So griefers are actually being sad over something? i mean since grievers are grieving and griefer is a misspelling of griever, then a griefer is the victim of some misfortune or other unpleasantness, not the cause, just like a griever. Which means most people are using it wrong, since they use it to refer to those who cause misfortune, not those who suffer it.

So what is the proper term for someone who causes misfortune and happiness for others since it's not griefer?

Just an FYI: trial accounts can't join global channels for the same reason they can't use broadcast or request or send tells. Gold farmers used them to spam ads.

Though they do use blaster powers mostly, dominators IMO are much more survivable due to the defense that your control offers. I say give it whril, even if your not looking to be a villian, when you know you can change his sides later on, i say go ahead and try it, and just ignore the "evilness" of being a villian for a while.
Doctor Strange has never exactly focused on controlling and manipulating minds. Yes, he's done so on occasion, but generally he forms shields, bindings and blasts out of magical energy fields when fighting. Grav/Psi i could almost see, though.

Templars and Moral Guardians? Can't recall the last time i saw one. What do they look like?

Why shouldn't hydras have a reward penalty? Well, at least the high level version. They're fairly weak, slow and squishy. At very low levels they're almost a threat, but the high level versions are basically weaker than any other non-underling enemy in that level range.

Hey, look, my question is an actual (though possibly rhetorical, which i think is only fair in this case) question that other players are eminently qualified to answer since it's not about aspects of the game's development that most players would have no direct ability to know. (je saist's response to the OP is far superior, but i'm used to that sort of thing. )

Just because the majority of people think something doesn't make it correct.
Exactly. The fact that cinema wasn't considered an art form, and neither was photography for decades before that, but i digress... Anyway, the fact that cinema was not widely accepted as an art form by the arbiters of culture did not mean that all movies made before wider acceptance were not art, and actually it was quite the contrary. The art world can in many ways be more conservative and resistant to change than the general population.

i think The Path is one of the better examples of a video game created to primarily express artistic or conceptual ideas with entertainment in the sense it generally applies to video games as a secondary consideration.

There are a number of other video games that have as much or more artistic merit than many pieces of art currently in museums. That the medium is not widely accepted as a valid art form has more to do with how relatively new it is. Of course this is just my opinion, which is somewhat based in my decades of dealing with artists and the art world in general.

So, a studio hires people who are all accepted as valid and successful artists in their respective fields, such as graphic arts, writing, music and so on, who then collaborate to create an interactive computer program incorporating all their talents, but because the end result is sold as a video game it can no longer be considered art?

    i don't think so.

(Granted, most video games may be bad art or not really art at all, but i've seen enough art in more traditional media to know that's hardly unusual. i've even seen pieces sell for six figures that i know are ugly, poorly thought out and accidentally meaningful at best, because i've worked with the artist who made them. And no, i'm not naming any names.)

    Welcome to the game, Laika.
It's a fun ride, fun enough that some of us have been playing it for over five years.

It's hard to really get a feel for the whole game experience when using a trial account due to the limitations placed on them. Unfortunately this is due to the unrestricted trial accounts being abused by RMT/Real Money Trade/gold-sellers.

On the plus side the full game sells for about $20 and comes with a free month of play, so it's not expensive to upgrade if you decide to stick with it. ~$15/month (less when purchased in bulk ) is not a bad deal for the amount of fun you can have.

Useful resources for learning more about the game are the various forums here and the Paragon Wiki. There are even a few guides in the guides section of the forums written specifically for new players. The Guide to Guides is a good place to start.

There's lots of other stuff that's useful to know, but time has run out for me at the moment. Hopefully the links already provided will be a help.
