Quote:I thought I haven't been that active in the Guardian global channel community; I just got into a few and stopped there...however, it looks like I happened to blunder into all of those (except the new Incarnate channel). That's some quality blundering! The two major channels are Guardian (public, but you'll need to send a tell to a channel moderator to get unsilenced) and Level 50 which is an invite-only channel. There's also Guardian Incarnates primarily for the incarnate content, Guardian's Team and to a lesser extent Guardian TF.

I wasn't aware there would be prizes, which is why I was so surprised when someone dropped 25 million on Djinni!
The word "djinni" originally described a spirit of smoke and fire, and I felt damned lucky to snag it on any server. Djinni is a Fire/Dark Melee tanker, formerly of the Iron Eagles hardcore supergroup.
Thanks, but the real fun, as always, was rumbling with enough tanks to make Erwin Rommel smile. -
For what it's worth, I made a Shield/Battle Axe Tanker to maximize the amount of knockdown I could do. He doesn't do knockBACK, but a ton of knockdown. I need to respec him for I-19...maybe I'll squeeze in Energy Torrent in the App pool, a cone knockdown.

Quote:Wow, really? I've been having this too and it frustrates me no end -- my travel power and primary toggle defenses are usually to the right side of my power trays, and those are just about the first things I try to turn on when I launch. The invisible pophelp window is sitting on top of your trays. Clicking on a window away from the right edge will bring it above the pophelp window; alternatively, you can drag the pophelp window to a less offensive location.
I leave pophelp on with a bunch of unread messages so I know where the window is.
Why doesn't the pophelp window cease to exist, instead of sitting around invisibly? That's mildly annoying. -
Quote:Everybody knows burst damage is great...especially for Blasters, because they lack the defenses to stand up to sustained pounding. They prefer to lay the hurt down and win.For point #3
Trip mines stacked from a decently slotted solo blaster can 'one shot' an EB pulled onto the stack
Trip mines appear slow and useless to some players because they involve delay, but they are a way of shifting damage (and all-important animation time) forward in time and releasing it all in one burst. In effect, trip mines trade setup time to gain bigger burst damage when they do go off.
Rather than animating a long attack chain while being pounded on (and while the enemies are regenerating hit points!) one can animate placing a bunch of trip mines in advance, and while they are going off you are ALSO animating your normal attack chain for the ultimate in stacked-up damage all at once.
That's why trip mines can sometimes let a Blaster do things that would otherwise be completely out of reach. -
It's now working fr me too....nothing to see here I guess.

Quote:I'm guessing you haven't looked closely at Frankenslotting yet.Point for point: any that go up to 50, none, not very much.
Non-level-50 enhancements on a level 50 characters bug me. A lot. And I'm not happy with the percentages of sub-50 enhancements, as well. With that in mind, I really don't want to use sub-50 enhancements, and if I had to, I'd probably not bother.
Quote:Then your goal should be purely Frankenslotting, and sets should be avoided for now. The true benefit of sets are the set bonuses, things that allow players to cap their defense, or get insane recharge amounts. If we're looking for the most bang for the bunk in that one particular power, then Frankenslotting is the way to go, and you should worry about sets as a whole (as in a full set of Crushing Impact over only one or two in a power) only when you're interested in the 7% Accuracy bonus, or the 5% Recharge bonus.
The answer here depends on the amount of funds you have to expend, as well as a bit of your level of patience. If your goal is Frankenslotting, then lower level IOs shouldn't really enter too often, and you should expect to sacrifice level only when funds or patience wear out.
For example, I recently mixed some level 35 ranged set IOs. Normal SO slotting for six slots would be something like:
33% end red
33% acc
95% damage
33% recharge
With these level 35s, I got:
36% end red
36% acc
95% damage
95% recharge
and if you want to use 50s you can do better on the end red and acc.
One of my melee characters gets partial set bonuses and uses level 45 set IOs (why 45? uh...early attempt, I was a newb) to get:
82% end red
69% acc
95% damage
95% recharge
That kind of thing blows away classic SO slotting. And again, if you like 50s, you will get better values than I did.
Another gets this on a stun power:
90% stun
90% acc
90% recharge
30-something % end red
using some level 30 IOs mixed in.
If I were you, I'd totally ignore whether something is a TF drop. Everything is going to cost you some money now though, or merits, and you might want to reconsider earning a little bit. Frankenslotting is really very, very nice. -

Quote:I did exactly this (different level and IO though) last night, and got exactly the level I'd set on the slider. You're golden. This is what I was talking about, the H/V Merit purchase. If I set the slider to level 11, and then purchase a Celerity: Stealth recipe, I get a level 11 recipe, right? I haven't actually tried this myself yet, but I understood that was the way it worked.
Quote:The last guy to use a reward roll at Crucible/FT asked "Did I just rip myself off?" and everyone answered "Yes!" so I wasn't considering reward rolls at C/FT. It doesn't seem like a good idea.
So while random rolling may not be the path to wealth, it will let one of my characters generate a pretty good batch of the hard-to-find midrange stuff I want, while the rest of my crew uses more conventional strategies.
Incidentally, I may be a hopeless marketeer, but I bought a SNIPE recipe with 2 A-merits recently. Yeah, I can hear the collective gasp from here.
I know the thing to do is buy a big-seller like LOTG +recharge, sell it, and buy lots of IOs with the cash...but I wanted a mid-range one, and after TWO WEEKS of neither crafted IO nor recipe being offered for sale at my desired level, I forced the issue with merits. A trillion influence won't buy something if it's not for sale. -
Only a set with Trip Mines lets you blow someone across the room with a Trip Mine...and onto another Trip Mine.
It's comedy GOLD, Jerry! -
Quote:Nitpick: you get FIVE random recipes for one Hero/Villain merit. Or else I've been getting ripped off big time! And yes, they are the level of the character rolling.Crucible/Fort Trident work exactly the same as Reward Merit vendors. If you choose to buy a recipe (with 50-200 Reward Merits or 1-2 H/V Merits), you can set whatever level you want, as long as the recipe exists at that level.
If you choose to roll (20 Reward Merits for 1 recipe, or 1 H/V merit for 8 recipes), you get either a recipe of your level, or the highest one that exists. -
You could start a baby now and breeze through the fast early levels, then later cram out the tougher higher levels during the hypothetical double-exp weekend.

Quote:Ya know, your suggestions are getting worse and worse. Invulnerability is one of the premier powersets in the game for Tankers, and definitely a top choice if I want to take on Lord Recluse. 10% extra res and def is HUGE, it's three times what the best sets in the game give. And getting rid of the cheaper IO sets to add a purple set in the same category might make the jaded super-rich smile, but nobody else will be smiling.again it depends on your character.
if you want the raw defense numbers I could log-on and get them, but I'll say this instead, they are around 19%
Res on invul is really good, but 19% def is poor when you step-up to most AVs
needs to be around 75% to not get slaughtered by recluse. do i have a point?
secondly 10% res and def extra isn't much, thats why I suggested it. it's not outlandish, it's not even close to being unfair. also we are talking a purple recipie, not an orange so yeah it's gonna be higher by a decent amount to make it worth the extra rarity.
3rdly, there are alot of UNUSED def and res IO sets, if you;re concerned about how many there are, lets get rid of some of the useless ones from the game and replace them with a purple. -
I've definitely added several new global friends lately. My plans to shop and craft are frequently disrupted by invites from strangers.
And in what I personally regard as a very promising development, the order of the serves constantly changes. In case anyone reading doesn't know, the server list keeps the server you used last at the top, then ranks them in order of increasing population online as you go down the list.
Although Virtue and Freedom have stayed at the bottom of the list as the big two, even they have changed places occasionally, and I constantly see Infinity, Justice, Guardian, and Champion rotating in the number 3 spot and just below, and once in a while one of the smaller servers makes it to the top 4. Meanwhile, Guardian (which I monitor most closely) was the only server with only one dot showing the other day...but later that night was back in the number 4 and 5 slots. It may not mean much, but I can't help but feel this variation is a good sign somehow. They're all busy, usually, but it's not some rigid pattern of use like you'd expect if everyone was stuck in a rut. -
Question: if you get mezzed, can you turn OFF the PFF, spam the attacks Definace lets you use when mezzed, and turn PFF back on when you're unmezzed?

I want a new concept for mitigation. We've got defense tankers, resistance tankers, "regen" tankers, control tankers, and everything since has been different kinds of layering of those methods of staying upright.
I want a new mechanic, and the introduction of novel things even for single powersets (like combos just for Dual Blades) leads me to hope the Devs are willing to make a new type of powerset that doesn't merely recombine the previous powers.
I think I recall seeing that the game engine can't support a "damage shield" powerset that inflicts damage on foes that strike the tanker; too bad. How about, say, an Ablative Armor set, one whose powers create "pseudo-pets" that have hit points only, and are destroyed as they take hit points? Perhaps it could use the mechanic from Masterminds' bodyguard mode to share damage between the Tanker and his ablative armor. The powers would be clickies on a longish recharge, so that you couldn't just refresh them before anyone could hurt you; you'd have to watch chunks slowly being blown off the tanker as you try to win before you erode. -
It's been 10% since it was introduced. Now, Dark Regeneration costs 33 endurance on my Scrapper; could that be the source of the confusion?
-
If you start to make a character and skip to the power customization tab, you can see a preview of what the powers look like. It may help to use the far zoom so you can see more of the effect. That way you can preview even upper-level powers from all the sets and see what calls to you.
IMHO one of the epic sets not yet mentioned is Storm. Numerous flashy and potent powers in the set, and lots of ATs have access to it. -
Quote:It's worth noting that a critical aspect of the Invention system is that the IOs are intended to be pretty much permanent -- slotting them is supposed to "use them up" and take them out of the economy. The Devs have said in the past that even the current system allowing us to save out ten is pretty much a bonus and not a principle of design. Since they've said that, I'd say it's unlikely they'd grant your wish and build a partial respec option specifically to get around that and re-use IOs.I would like the option to respec and totally skip the powers/slots portion. I very often respec because I am moving more powerful versions of IO Sets into my character and want to save the old ones for other characters. All I want to do is swap out IOs between my inventory and my character - nothing else (probably half my respecs are like this). In that case doing the full respec is extremely annoying.

Quote:What if it's the long-awaited Pack Animal?Quote from interview
It's either going to be the long awaited Cat Guuurrrrrrrl pack or the long awaited Furry pack or the long awaited proper Mutant pack or the long awaited Beast (Oh, you beast!) pack or the long awaited Animal pack.
Either way, it's going to be long awaited. -

What if "Strike Pack" means they stop working and demand more money? Joke's on us!
Actually, I'm hoping it's the long-awaited Additional Targeted AoE Invention Sets pack.
