Epicness??
Welcome back to the game.
Luckily flashy is something we do well around here. If you want something that grows pretty quickly and gets progressively more flashy, you might consider an Earth/Fire Dominator. The Earth powers are very loud and cause lots of screenshake, and the Fire powers do good damage. Later on you can pick up Rain of Fire and Fireball for even more damage and explosions. The Earth pet is also really good.
Super Strength has a very HULK SMASH feel to it. It's kind of a late bloomer with footstomp coming so late though. SS/Willpower is a solid combo and fun to play.
There are so many sets I would suggest that you pick something you like the look of and give it a go,I,m sure you will find something that grabs you and will not let go .Welcome to the game
Prof Radburn controller,Celtic Ice Maiden, blaster,Miss Knockout scrapper,Mistress Davina controller,Stone Hart, tank Split Personality PB.Queen Lostris controller,Fridgid Mary blaster,Shocking Fire blaster Future Elfling defender, Little Weed controller,Capo Angelo MM, Commander Buzzsaw MM, Justice Tank tank all 50,s
Coolest looking powers certainly go to Warshades.*

MA/Fire scrapper. Because what could be more epic than KICKING PEOPLE IN THE FACE WHILE ON FIRE!
Flashy eh? I'll second the suggestion for Martial Arts, I'm not sure if there IS a sexier power set in terms of animations.... Dual Pistols is definately flashy, though I prefer the pure daisy-cutter sounds of Assault Rifle...I feel like I'm in a cheesy 80's action movie whenever I play mine . Also, try playing around with the the colour palette for whatever power sets you end up going with. /Dark/ (anything dark) can start to look very...dark (creepy) IMHO.
WB!
Can't think of any powerset that isn't flashy in some way, especially with power customization.
My suggestion is to make alts until you find something that suits your taste, that's what a lot of people do.
Mains (Freedom) @Auroxis
Auroxis - Emp/Rad/Power Defender Pylon Video Soloing an AV
Pelvic Thunder - SS/Elec/Mu Brute
Sorajin - Elec/Nin Stalker
Neuropain - Sonic/Mental/Elec Blaster
If you start to make a character and skip to the power customization tab, you can see a preview of what the powers look like. It may help to use the far zoom so you can see more of the effect. That way you can preview even upper-level powers from all the sets and see what calls to you.
IMHO one of the epic sets not yet mentioned is Storm. Numerous flashy and potent powers in the set, and lots of ATs have access to it.

If you like flash and the "crush them, my army" feel, you might try rolling a Demon Summoning Matermind. The whip attacks are very flashy and keep you in the middle of things.
Coupling it with Storm Summoning or possibly Force Fields (which has many KB powers alongside its defensive powers) might give you the feeling of power you're after as well.
Barring that, any AT with Energy Blast would probably do as well.

Or you could pick Peacebringer. Cuz it's all the Lobster, none of the Happy Meal.*

Dual Pistols certainly LOOKS awesome. Uhm. There is a possibility that it may not live up to hopes in terms of actual performance, though.
Still, in CoH, there's basically no bad sets, there's just a few sets that aren't quite as good as the others. Everything's good enough.
Scrappers with shield defense, invulvnerability, or willpower get buffs per-enemy-in-melee, encouraging you to go do epic-looking things.
You're going to get a huge variety of replies here, since everyone will have a different opinion of what is flashy visually.
That said, I have to second the person above who said to check out the power customization in the character creator. A great example: try creating an Earth/Earth Dom, then go and see the amazing variety of visual f/x you get to pick from. You can do regular stones, lava, and crystals. You'd never guess that this variety existed unless you tried it out in the character creator.
Freedom: Blazing Larb, Fiery Fulcrum, Sardan Reborn, Arctic-Frenzy, Wasabi Sam, Mr Smashtastic.
Or you could pick Peacebringer. Cuz it's all the Lobster, none of the Happy Meal.*

Oh yeah. I went there.
Further plug for warshades: Warshades, quite literally, feed off of enemies, with greater effects per foe. They pretty much require you to do epic things, but with even more epic results.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that SS/fire feels pretty epic (a ***** to lvl up though unless you use a fire AE map, in which you feel like GOD) it’s got SS/ so you get HULK SMASH!!!! but then /fire (once you get burn) really gives you an "AAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! IM SOO ******* POWERFUL I BLOW UP EVERYTHING NEAR ME. AH!" super saiyan-esque feeling (one of mines costume's is yellow burn cuz of that *sigh*). But ive been told thats overselling the product. :P

If my warshade is a Grimace, then your Peacebringer is a sparkle vampire from Twilight.

And there went my advantage. Twilight > Grimace when it comes to horrifying similarities. You sir, have sunk my battleship.
Just going by looks, some of the more epic sets I've played are:
Bots MM (it's not just an army of minions, it's a hail of lasers and missiles)
Super Strength or Stone Melee Brutes or Tanks (both are very "smashy")
Axe Tanks or Brutes (come on, you smash things with a huge axe...)
Fire Blasters or Corruptors (the more brightly colored you make their blasts the better it looks)
Dual Pistols (if you watched Wanted and Equilibrium and thought "meh, too realistic" )
Storm Summoning (you knock things flying with tornadoes and hurricanes!)
Crab Spiders (you're an evil looking spider guy tossing energy blasts all over the place)
Energy Blast (knock enemies flying with big glowing blasts)
Peacebringers (see Energy Blast, but you also get to look like seafood)
Cascade, level 50 Blaster (NRG/NRG since before it was cool)
Mechmeister, level 50 Bots / Traps MM
FAR too many non-50 alts to name

Wow, thats a lot of answers ^^
I have a Demon summoner already, and yeah, he looks awesome(the conjuration part where he draws symbols on the air is just plain goldy looking)
Warshades do seen like a cool concept, but wont they only be usefull after they get eclipse?
heard many good things about SS ^^
and Earth control...I would never have guessed!!! I always underestimated it thinking "mehhh earth", but it indeed looks awesome!!!
now to some specific questions
Elec Control seemed to look really nice too, but is the powerset efficient?
What about explosion types powers? I know I will problably make a corruptor or blaster, but is it possible to make any of those without being a glass cannon? (I only made a blaster so far and he died to easily)
and what about those Epic Archetypes for Villains?
Thanks for all the answers

1) Warshades are good pretty much from 6 on up. They just happen to get godly at eclipse. But before then they are very very viable. Go up to Dechs's post and click on the link in his sig for "The MFing Warshade" probly the best guide on Earth for warshades. *don't forget my sales commision, Dechs.
2) SS is sick. You could get a shield/SS/Pyre tank to do some crazy damage as well as being soft capped to defense relatively cheaply.
3) Yeah, Earth is a beast. Team it up with /Rad for amazing team support or team it with /storm for outright amazing looking and fun gameplay either teamed or solo.
4) Elec control is a very good powerset. The endurance drain from mobs is cool as well as the pulsing sleep is very cool. One thing is tho, I hear its pretty active. So picking a set and forget secondary might be a good idea. like FF or sonic. Rad would be a good one since you can fire off toggles and get to the primary for the rest of the fight.
5)Explosions eh? well for corruptors, seek out the legendary Silas. The dude is amazing with corruptors. Wrote probly the best corruptors guide evar at http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...as#post2354728 and you will laugh your tush off reading it. For he is one of those "funny people" you hear about on the television set. Blasters can be very survivable and it is not hard to cap ranged defense so they can hover and blow things up. While not flashy, a hovering soft capped archery/energy blaster is an amazing thing.
6)And finally, there is no such thing as a bad VEAT. Bane? Awesome. Crab? Awesome with pets. Huntsman? Awesome and makes defenders cry with their buffs and gets a submachine gun to dispense great justice. The widows are all good but I've never played one. It is never a bad idea to have a VEAT on your team. They only make everything better. As a matter of fact. Now that I am thinking about it. VEATS are like the bacon of CoX. Everything is better with them
And that's all I have to say about that.
Regarding Electric Control, it's a very fun and useful control set but it doesn't do much damage at all. If you plan to solo much I'd go with a Dominator rather than a Controller so you can add some decent offense to it or you'll take quite a while to beat anything (though you'll be pretty safe doing it). If you are mainly going to team an Electric Controller is a lot of fun though.
As far as survivable Blasters go, it depends on what you consider survivable. You can make them quite a bit tougher with IOs but no Blaster (even one with 10 billion inf worth of IOs) is really going to survive as well as a decent Scrapper. For blasting plus survivability you'll want a Defender or Corruptor with a good debuff set, like Dark or Rad... Rad/Sonic Defenders and Fire/Dark Corruptors are both absolute beasts that can take on things no sane Blaster would attempt. A few of the insane Blasters do manage to also beat those sort of fights, but that takes a combination of lots of skill, a great build, and an absolute disregard for debt. Taking Rise of the Phoenix and slotting it for lots of recharge helps too...

My personal favorite sets that evoke flashy power or explosive and fun graphics are :
Energy Blast (People dont like KB but I think it is about as epic as you get), 6+ years after I first played this set, I STILL LOVE IT !
Martial Arts : Graceful and Powerful Kicks, that just scream "A$$-whoopin"
Super Strength : Hurl, Footstomp, Smashing sounds. Yeah, Hulk would be proud.
I especially love the ground cracking graphic with footstomp combined with knockdown.
Storm Summoning : Cloud, Wind, Lightning Bolts, loud noisy AND Knockback. What's not to love about that.
Fire Blast : Not quite as enjoyable as Energy Blast to me, but when you throw that first fireball and "smegma" gets dispersed over a large area, with a big Boom! and you see villains ON FIRE !. Yeah, thats Fun to do over, and over again.
Electric Blast: Not a great performer, but sparks flying all over the place with loud crackling pops and bursts. Villains locked in a spasm animation from being elctrocuted. Never gets old watching that graphic.
BIOSPARK :: DARKTHORN :: SKYGUARD :: WILDMAGE
HEATSINK :: FASTHAND :: POWERCELL :: RUNESTAFF
Let me put in a good word for a Fire/Fire/Pyre Tanker. Why? You do everything with EXPLOSIONS.
- Attack nearby enemies? EXPLOSIONS.
- Attack distant enemies? EXPLOSIONS.
- Heal yourself? EXPLOSION.
- Buff your damage? EXPLOSION.
With the Tech Booster, you can even kill yourself with an EXPLOSION, and then resurrect yourself with another EXPLOSION.
tl;dr Fire/Fire/Pyre = EXPLOSIONS

Only problem is that it turns EPIC only at 32. But what a lovely EPIC it is.
Hmmm, hi there ^^
I played coh last year for a few months and altough the Mastermind AT was really awesome, that was all I could manage to play to a decent level
point is, even Masterminds tho MMs gives you the "crush them, my army" feeling, its not enough to satiate my need for a character with flashy skills
sooo
I came here to ask of you, all knowing old players...
What would be the best Powerset if I am looking for that "epic" feeling? as in, looks, not necessarily power
and what would be a good AT,power combination to make in a way that would make me "epicness" filled character , without making it overly weak?
thanks in advance
