if you want OMG levels of knock-around...

make a storm summoning / energy blast / Electric mastery defender.

Storm Summoning has 4 powers that have a knock-effect: Gale, Hurricane, Tornado, Lightning Storm

Energy Blast has 8: Power Bolt, Power Blast, Energy Torrent, Power Burst, Sniper Blast, Power Push, Explosive Blast, and Nova

Electric Mastery's Thunder Strike also gives you a knock-effect power.

Total number of powers with knock effects: 13

I'm gonna say Energy/Storm corruptor but there are several other great choices. What Storm gives you is Gale, which is just a massive aoe knockback that you get early. This is your hammer. Energy gives you Power Thrust which is single target high mag knockback. This is your scalpel.

Sometimes you want to knock everything down, sometimes you're only gonna want to knockdown one mob.

Sonic Blast/Forcefields does the Hammer and Scalpel of Knockback better, but I prefer Storm over Forcefields much more.

The character I have that does the Hammer the best is a Sonic/Dark corruptor. Tar Patch makes a great target for all the mobs I'm Knocking around. Dark also gives me a nicer toggle for toggle-tanking then Storm. Storm's toggle makes everyone run soooo sloooow.

Grav/Storm Controllers get an honorable mention from me. The AOE immobilze isn't going mess up your knockback, and lift is awesome Knockup single target control. I just feel Grav gets a little weak in the 20s. Until you can get a few slots into Wormhole.

I hope my opinion helps.

I'm playing an Electric/Storm Controller right now, and...well, Jolting Chain is pretty epic when slotted for knockback. Each leap in the chain knocks guys back at the angle at which it hit, so you get about 20 different guys flying in totally contradictory directions. Plus, Hurricane + Tornado + Gale = <3

If I wanted to play an 'annoying' build for npc's to play against, I'd go Earth/Storm controller. Slows and Knockback and Debuffs ahoy! Definitely two of the more annoying powersets for me to play against.

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

And then take Whirlwind and put the chance for knockback IO in Thunder Clap.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

For what it's worth, I made a Shield/Battle Axe Tanker to maximize the amount of knockdown I could do. He doesn't do knockBACK, but a ton of knockdown. I need to respec him for I-19...maybe I'll squeeze in Energy Torrent in the App pool, a cone knockdown.

But if you want to do damage, I'd suggest the storm/energy defender, an energy/energy/energy blaster, or a BOTS/STORM.
A bots/storm was the first toon that let me embrace knockback. It helps that it is ridiculously powerful and safe.

For a great annoyance toon, I recommend a grav/ff. Can be ever so helpful, or ever so annoying depending on how much you like the team.

Oh god, I have to try this. That sounds awesome!

wow lot of options, seems to be down to controllers and defenders/corrupters. if i were 2 do a storm/energy guy would def or corr be a smarter choice, i know its a preference thing but please answer from your experience and opinion.

I go Corrupter since I can get an Attack Chain faster, and the real nice Storm goodies (freezing rain, hurricane) are all pick able by level 20. Also Corrupters on teams with nice Damage Buffs can get around the Damage Cap rather easily thanks to Scourge.

I leveled up my Storm/Energy fender long, long ago. I had and still have no interest in taking Nova. On my defender that meant I had to go from lvl 35 to level 41 without any new powers to choose from that I wanted. I've found that if I choose powersets that have a great power pick at 38 I'm more likely to level them into the 40s, maybe all the way to 50.

This is most likely due to my altism then game design, but I recognize it and do small things to try to avoid it.

If you want to maximize the knockback potential, you would want a Defender: they get a higher AT modifier for KB than Corruptors do.

If you want to maximize annoying your teammates, I'd go with a Grav/Storm Controller, using both Gale and Dimension Shift (which is a far more annoying power to me than any knockback) as often as you can while Wormholing mobs off of the melee ATs and into the squishies, placing Singularity and Tornado in spots to thoroughly scatter everything, and making sure that you have the star so you don't get kicked after the second Dimension Shift. Bonus points for a hideous neon color on Hurricane which never gets turned off.

Electric/Storm controller. This provides significant levels of both KB *and* sap.

It would seem to me, were I a mob, that being knocked all over the place (think of the bruises) then finding I had no energy left would be more then annoying.

No one's mentioned a Grav/Energy Dominator yet?! Unacceptable!

Would you play with Captain Knockback?

Answer: Helpy McHelperson, my grav/storm troller with the full teleport pool, is actually a lot of fun. If I advertise for teams warning people in advance that it is "grav/storm played for laughs", people do indeed team with him and apparently have a great deal of fun doing so.

... Though they do twitch involuntarily and cover their faces every time they hear the words "I'm helping!" thereafter.

Not only would I play with him, I'd grab my storm/electric defender to add my portion of chaos.

I could bring Clooless Noobie along... she's my Energy/Storm Corruptor.
