No! It's NOT gonna be okay!
We should...MERGE THE SERVERS!

Was just thinking about all the different Control options available, from Key changes in the Options menu, to different uses of the mouse, to peripherals, to Binds/Macros, etc.
Would you like to share your particular quirky set-up?
I'm especially curious about how many players accept the Default mouse configuration (right-click & hold to mouse-look), and how many prefer to go with an alternate, like FPS-regular mouse look, and right-click & hold to get the pointer.
Personally, I'm boring - I use a Nostromo n52 Speedpad peripheral, with attacks 1-9 on the thumbpad & lower row of keys.
Thumb paddle button is always used for heals or targeted powers (where you get a reticle).
Standard default mouse set-up, except Target Nearest Enemy is on the Middle Mouse Button.
A half-dozen Binds & Macros for building teams, calling for Gathers, etc.
How do you set-up? -

Same topic; Different question (I'm at work now, can't check it myself):
Is it possible to adjust the Volume of the Tell ding independent of the other sound FX Volume?
Sometimes I miss Tells during fights, with lots of different power sound effects going off.
FYI I wear headphones when I play. -

Quote:There are Accuracy enhancements which increase the accuracy of the power they are slotted into. There are also powers which increase ToHit chance such as tactics. Yellow inspirations (insights) also increase tohit.
There are no enhancements that increase your tohit directly. There are enhancements that make *powers* that increase your tohit stronger.
Short answer: slot accuracy to make a power hit more often. Use yellow inspirations to temporarily make it easier to hit things. Pick powers that increase tohit if you want to have powers that make you hit more often.
The difference between tohit and accuracy can get a bit bogged down by math, so here's the simplified version. You as the player have a base chance to hit things that is 75% by default. Attacking things that are higher level than you will reduce that chance, as will attacking things with Defensive powers. At very low levels, you'll have a bonus that starts off strong and gets weaker as you get higher in level, specifically to make things easier on lower level characters that have limited ability.
Accuracy increases your chance to hit the target by a proportional amount. If you have +33% accuracy, that means you hit 33% more often. So if your chance to hit was 50 percent, a +33% accuracy power will hit 33 percent more often, or 50 * 1.33 = 66.5%.
On the other hand, boosting your tohit increases your chance to hit by a flat amount. If your chance to hit was 50% and you increased tohit by 33 percentage points, your net chance to hit would increase to 83% (50 + 33).
All other things being equal, more tohit is better than more accuracy. But all things aren't equal, because its relatively easy to get more accuracy, and usually harder to get consistently higher tohit.
If you have some of both, life gets a bit more complicated. See: Attack Mechanics.
OMFG a post by Arcanaville! You're such a stranger around here these days.
Serve & Protect consider yourself blessed - you got it straight from the Mistress of Numbers herself. -

Y'all need to knock it off with the whole Answering Questions quickly, politely, and correctly thing.
From what I've seen elsewhere (i.e. other MMO gaming boards), the appropriate response to this question is:

Quote:*head spins*I stand by my correction which was to correct this statement...
If one of the level 27s leads, that does not mean they have to do missions in Steel or IP because the level 27 leader can chose the level 50's mission in PI. Additionally, the OP can also chose to retain leadership and do those Steel/IP radio missions anyway.
We all know what's the intent behind the advice, I was just clarifying that if the OP is willing to exemplar, there is that option now while retaining leadership since SSK goes by the level of mission owner, not team leader for instanced missions.
That last quoted sentence should have been: "But now, you can chose your mission or theirs and still get Influence and everyone is auto-sidekick to the mission's anchor and you don't have to give up leadership of the group. Although, it would be better loot for you to choose your own level 50 missions."
Erm...thanks?
Seriously - thanks for the input - and now I know waaaay more about the SSk system than I ever really wanted to.
But I do appreciate the help! -
Great! Still plenty of opportunities to Shield Bash vills into the ground!
Thanks for all the help peeps! -
I generally prefer building and leading my own teams, rather than joining others.
Now I've hit 50 on my Shield/Mace tank, and find him so much fun I want to continue messing with him.
I don't farm and have had nothing but bad experiences in AE.
-I don't think I've ever tried to continue ANY arc post-50, is that possible?
-Can a 50 get new arcs?
-What about Radios, can a 50 get and run Radios?
In short, how can I get and run team-friendly missions if I want to keep using my 50, and don't want to TF or Flashback or AE? -
Quote:Basically Assault Rifle and Archery are the two primaries with the best AoEs (primarily because their T9 has a 60second recharge and no crash). Mental Manipulation adds Psychic Scream as an additional strong AoE as well as several other useful powers.
Archery tends to be favored over Assault Rifle for farming since it has Aim and RoA is a bit easier to line up than FA in outdoor maps. The only real advantage of AR over Archery is Flamethrower but the fact that it's a DoT tends to be offputting for farmers.
Gah I feel bad I'm pushing the derail button too hard now - but I do have a 50 Archery/Devices blaster, so I'm good with that part, I was curious as to why pairing it with Mental was such a good move.
I'll do my own poking around re: Mental right now, let's not derail this any more than I already have, Apologies. -
Don't want to derail, but a few people have mentioned Archery/Mental as a powerful build, and one I've never considered, so I went looking for a Guide and couldn't find one in Guides/Blasters/Primaries.
Can anyone point me to one, or talk a little about what makes the Archery/Mental blaster so powerful? -
Quote:Somebody else's idea, but it's a good one. A mez indicator in the team window. For example, when a teammate is mezzed his health bar turns purple. It would be a nice QoL addition.
Ooo I really like this idea - I've heard it before but never really stopped to think about how it would be implemented.
Would make Clear Mind/O2 Boost/etc. much more useful. -
Quote:Well, yes Walk actually puts a hard cap on movement speed, so that there's no way possible to increase it. However, while Walk is toggled on, all powers are grayed out, similar to being in Studio B of the AE buildings. Thus, the Run speed is shut off, but so is every other benefit from the power. (doesn't matter how good your recovery is, if you're not using any of it beyond whatever Walk costs)
Okay, I get it - so you're not going to do a speeded-up version of Walk if SB'd, you'd still walk at the Walking pace, and unable to use or benefit from any powers or buffs.
Not really super-useful as a speed-nerf for SB, then...that makes more sense to me, thx M_I. -
Has anyone actually confirmed that this slows SB'd characters?
I always viewed the ACTUAL speed boost part of SB as a downside intended to balance all the other benefits.
Would be shocked to learn that SB now HAS no downside. -
Quote:This...think about how long you play/have played some of your other PC games before shelving them for a while. 10 hours? 25 hours? 50?Take a break. You can't play the same game forever, and it's not the game's fault you get bored. Most people will eventually get bored of even the best and most wonderful things.
Do something else for awhile and come back when it feels right.
Now, how long have you been playing CoH? 2 months? A year? 2 years?!? *points to Join Date* 4 FREAKIN' YEARS?!?
Almost EVERYONE takes a break from time to time. I'm in one right now, as I've been playing Mount & Blade pretty much non-stop since I got it 10 days ago.
So set CoX aside, and when you come back, you'll hear that intro music at the Login splash screen and get all excited again, just like you used to! And find there are new ways to play and enjoy, thanks to the constant updates (issues), tweaks, and changes. -
You *might* have more luck asking on the Freedom Server board.

Quote:Another thing you might want to do at level 30 is unlock the stores in Brickstown and/or Founders Falls (I believe these have level 35 & 40 enhancements). Unlike previous stores, these need to be unlocked by doing missions. You should at least unlock the one for your origin, but may want to do them all. I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but I think doing a store mission may get you an introduction to a new level 30+ contact too.
Yeah ditto this, when I hit 30 I usually head to Bricks & FF and grab ALL the "store" unlock missions, regardless of my Hero's Origin, just because they're fun little stand-alones that take you "off the beaten path" for a few hours.
Also ditto Croatoa, that zone has some super-fun arcs (the first 15 times you do them, anyway). -

It has really changed my level of enjoyment for the better. I also run PuGs almost exclusively, and can now put a viable team together in about 20 seconds (with NO blind invites, of course, as always).
Please give the peeps who came up with, and implemented this feature a big fat bonus/raise. -
Quote:je_saist, thank you for your extremely helpful post. I'm not in any rush to get to 50, and I consider myself to be a casual gamer. My girlfriend and I are both full-time students and we don't play too often. I always focus on the journey and not the destination, it just worries me that after we reach that end-point that the only thing to do is make a new character and do it again. Every other MMO I've played, most players almost exclusively use their high-level characters to progress in content the developers have created and made available for them. They continue to earn things for their characters to make them better and further them in progression.
I really do like the character creation in this game, and the fact that I can be whatever I want to be. It is really a very cool concept, and the developers have really done a great job on making it a reality. I am going to continue with my "main" (since I've already made 14 characters, none of them getting past level 12, because I come up with a different hero concept and start all over) to 50 and just go from there.
After almost 5 years playing CoH, it never ceases to amaze me that this game, and this forum, continue to attract, and be populated by, such intelligent, mature, level-headed, interesting people (compared to some other MMOs I've sampled).
Welcome to the game, and the forums, Kylazin. You and the GF are very welcome here. -
Personally, I break out one of my 50s when I get bored with the grind and just wanna mess around.
I'll bring out a Kin and SB/heal/FS lowbies street-clearing in Atlas.
Bring out my Emp Defender and tag along behind a sewer team buffing and healing.
Bring out my Illusion/Stormie and join any group that will have me, regardless of level or task, just because it's the most fun AT I've ever played.
I think the new SSK system has really breathed new life into the post-50 "Endgame". Even if you're not earning XPs, it seems easier/more accepted now, to grab a 50 and go and do whatever you feel you might have missed, or whatever you enjoy most about the game.
Running lowbies, it's good to have a goal (leveling up, IO-ing, etc.). But sometimes you wanna take a true vacation from the grind... no schedules, no "gotta go Train real quick", no checking the Enhances, etc. etc. etc.
Sometimes it's fun to have a shower, shave, do the hair, get dressed all snappy-like, and join some friends for a social activity, & sometimes it's fun to skip the shower entirely, lie on the couch in your PJs, and watch TV / read / nap / eat / drink / smoke / pick your nose, all...freakin'... day.
