Control(s) freak...

Was just thinking about all the different Control options available, from Key changes in the Options menu, to different uses of the mouse, to peripherals, to Binds/Macros, etc.

Would you like to share your particular quirky set-up?

I'm especially curious about how many players accept the Default mouse configuration (right-click & hold to mouse-look), and how many prefer to go with an alternate, like FPS-regular mouse look, and right-click & hold to get the pointer.

Personally, I'm boring - I use a Nostromo n52 Speedpad peripheral, with attacks 1-9 on the thumbpad & lower row of keys.

Thumb paddle button is always used for heals or targeted powers (where you get a reticle).

Standard default mouse set-up, except Target Nearest Enemy is on the Middle Mouse Button.

A half-dozen Binds & Macros for building teams, calling for Gathers, etc.

How do you set-up?

C: ++up$$powexectoggleon Jump Pack
Enter: tabselect global$$startchat
Shift+Enter: tabselect Repeat Offenders$$startchat
Numpad0: powexecname Rest
Shift+Numpad0: team Resting...$$powexecname Rest
Numpad<#>: teamselect <#>
Divide: powexecname Mystic Fortune
Add, Button4: powexecname <healing power>
Numpadenter, Alt+Button4: powexecname <travel power>
Shift+Lbutton: <complicated teleport bind which hides UI, zooms out camera, reduces shadows, and activates Teleport reticle while shift is held, and returns to default settings when released; only used on Teleporter characters or Kheldians while in Dwarf form>
Decimal: Varies by character, usually an ally buff power (or sometimes a cycling bind, like my MMs have both pet upgrades bound to Decimal on a cycling bind)
Multiply: powexectoggleon chain (toggle on all toggles I want always on)
Button5: some power I use frequently that I don't want to move my hand for (eg, Build Up)

Button4 and Button5 often get overloaded with modifiers for powers I'm using frequently or require drop targets. For example, every location power I have on my Illusion/Storm Controller (Phantom Army, Spectral Terror, Phantasm, Freezing Rain, Tornado) is bound to {Alt | Ctrl | Shift | }+{Button4 | Button5}, along with my healing power (Button4 = O2 Boost) and travel power (Alt + Button4 = Fly$$Hover)

I have on occasion bound something to Minus. My main MM has Alt+F<#> bound to various instances of inspexecpet to feed inspirations to my henchmen. I occasionally bind ~ to a targeting bind while badge hunting. Beyond that, I use the default control layout.

Seeing as how I am 1. extremely new to this game, and 2. using a laptop with a track pad, I have very few if any controls set. xD;

Although I can say I have fly bound to "V" since its close to my thumb.

Not having played any other MMO's or FPS's, I have not re-mapped any keys. However, I have added a great many keybinds.
- I have a template on the top of my keyboard listing the 22 binds on the F-keys.
- In order to free up room in my power trays, I have the following bound to keys: Rest, GvsE Jump Pack, vet powers, Teleport, Recall Friend, Base TP, Pocket D TP, Mission TP, O-Portal. (Certainly, not all of my toons have Teleport or Recall but, for those who do, it's always on the same key.)

I have my three power trays mapped to the number pad, since when I first read that tray slots were mapped to numbers in the manual, I assumed it'd work for the numpad, too.

Masterminds have their pet-summoning powers bound to LCtrl+, LAlt+, and LShift+LMouse. Teleporters get Teleport bound to LShift+LMouse instead. Clear Target gets its bind changed to Shift+Numpad-, and Target Next Ally is Ctrl+Tab.

Other than that, just the defaults.

I'm pretty much by default, but I do add and change a few things. First thing I do is move Autorun from R to P, because that "feature" so close at hand inevitably leads to me pulling Ye Olde Leeroye. I also assign costumes 1234 to GHJK. I change the mouselook to flight sim style view.

I use no keybinds at all. I've set some up in the past, and never remembered to use them, so stopped bothering. Tray 1 is Offense, Tray 2 Defense, Tray 3 Miscellaneous and seldom-use powers. Slot 6 in Tray 1 is always a travel power, Slot 6 in Tray 2 is the prerequisite to the travel power, unless I've chosen to skip that (due to the Vet reward), in which case it could be anything.

My Katana/SR's layout is very typical. The inspiration tray is usually the same too, except all those blank spaces would be full of blues, and I'd use up that one out-of-place red to make space for another. (Character was on a team recently that provided everything except end recovery.)

I do most things with the numpad.

Offensive powers (blaster/defender/corruptor/mastermind blast, controller control, scrapper/tanker/brute/stalker melee, dominator assault) go on the plain numpad.

Utility powers (blaster manipulation, defender/corruptor/mastermind/controller buff, dominator control, scrapper/tanker/brute/stalker defense) go on ctrl+numpad.

Inspirations go on alt-numpad, 1 through 7 for heal/end/offense/accuracy/defense/breakfree/damres. Smallest first to maximize churn.

Mastermind controls go on shift-numpad.

Exceptions: damaging toggle powers always go on ctrl+numpad. Self-heals go on alt/ctrl/shift+numpad0. Build Up or similar go on alt/ctrl/shift+decimal. Travel powers and leadership go on the math parts of the numpad. Anything that needs a mouseclick goes on a chorded mouse button. Teleport goes on the right button so I can confirm the recticle.

I'm a lefty, so I've remapped most everything to use the numpad. When I bought a new laptop, I made sure to get a wide one with a numpad.

In fact, Sellefane was watching me play once, and said something like, "Wow, you don't use your mouse much, do you?" Nope, I don't.

I use an 9-button mouse, and bind a lot of my controls to it.

Button 4 is a heal. If I don't have a heal power, I set up a bind for green inspirations. Other buffs (like Rad's Accelerate Metabolism) may be bound to Shift+Button4.

Button 5 is usually a toggle that I may need to turn on and off during combat. On my Stone Tank, this is Rooted. On */Storm controllers, this is Hurricane. Shift+Button5 and Ctrl+Button5 may be other toggles that get turned on and off.

Button 6 is the tilt-wheel-left, is bound to "u" for my primary powers that are not primary attacks put in tray slots 1-6. It is often used for location-targeted AoE powers. Additional powers from my primary are often bound to Shift+u, Ctrl+u and Alt+u.

Button 7 is tilt-wheel-right, bound to "o," and I do the same thing for secondary powers. For example, on */Storm controllers, I bind Freezing Rain to "o." Lightning Storm is Shift+o and Tornado is Ctrl+o.

Button 8 is bound to "h" for my travel powers.

Button 9 is bound to "i" for anything else I might need.

Individual buff binds, like Speed Boost or O2 Boost, FF, Thermal and Cold shields are set up on the keypad to select the teammate and apply the buff with one keypress.

Pet controls are set up using the keypad + Alt.

I set up all my binds with various Ultra Binds in CityBinder, making it easy to change or adjust them at any time.

Hit G a second time: Shield 2 toggles on
Hit G a third time: Shield 3 toggles on
(Add more shields in decending order as you require.)

/bind H "powexec_toggleon Ninja Run$$powexec_toggleon Combat Jumping"

Hit H once: Combat Jumping toggles on
Hit H twice: Ninja Run toggles on (detoggling Combat Jumping)
Hit H again: Combat Jumping toggles on (detoggling Ninja Run)

/bind r "++forward$$emote flypose3"

For my flying melee users... FLYING PUUUUUNCH! @_@

Numpad keys are used on Masterminds for pet controls, and on other characters like my Stalker for making smartalec comments while using Placate.

I have a five button mouse which i love, for melee toons i always bind the button4 (right under my thumb) to follow.
Oddly for me different toons get different keybinds, though some are always the same

Everybody gets these:
n=powexec_name rest
i=info
button4=follow
x=travel power toggle, though with SJ and Fly it cycles through the various states
c=self heal
alt+c=heal other
o=oroborous
t=stealth power
all costumes are variations of the p button, alt+, ctl+ shift+
everything else is a bit more dependent on the powers and ATs
anyone with toggles gets a macro that turns them all on, in a particular sequence, with the last toggling any taunt or aggro auras
anyone with ground targeted click powers usually get those bound to alt or shift+ mouse buttons 4 and 5

Everything else is willy nilly

This may be a better solution than what I tried - for my only melee character, a Shield/Mace tanker, I bound my normal attack buttons with follow$$(tray 1 2 or whatever) so every attack would automatically Follow first, then attack.

But I find it messes with the camera too much, as the camera swings behind your char everytime you hit Follow.

So I may be trying to look around and keep an eye on other team members or threats, but keep snapping back to default camera with every attack.
