It will be interesting to see whats done. MMs and Dominators are the odd men out when it comes to swapping PPPs with APPs. Brutes, Corruptors, and Stalkers I can see simply sharing pools with their blueside counterparts. Doms and MM's are hybrid AT's and many of the powers in the defender and controller pools would be duplicates for us. I hope we don't just get Tanker or scrapper APP's and we lose out on Toggle armors. Fingers crossed that new pools are created for us.

Fire/ Doms are really designed to be in the thick of it. Start off with Flashfire, next jump in with hotfeet running and imps right behind you, and then spam your damage powers. That's the essence of playing a Fire/ dom.
So if you want to be ranged a fire/ primary might not perform so well. Mind/ , Plan/, and Earth might all have what your looking for. Grav isn't too bad for a ranged dommie once you have Singularity tanking for you. Hope this makes some sense and is helpful. -
Hmm...looking at this buff I think there may be something else impacted. Defender Duo's.
For example two sonic/emp defenders constantly casting Fortitude (while running assault) sounds fantastic. I'm sure theres a few other Duo's that will be pretty damaging combos when this goes live.
Has this been looked at or thought about at all, I wonder? -
I think giving controllers the Master Mind version of Dark Miasma could work. It's already been adjusted to compensate for the control, damage, and debuffing of the powerful pet primaries. Though some people would argue /Dark MM's are overpowered.
-
Nothings more wickedly delightful than a full team of MMs running on the highest difficulty. It's insanely fun, if your graphics card can handle it. As far as "not buffing teamates goes". I don't view the pets as separate from the MM, the pet and the MMs are one being, one unit as it were. I buff my pets, because much like a tanker, scrapper, or brute, my buffs are "Self buffs". Tougher Pets = Tougher MM.

Quote:Exactly your concept can be anything..I can think of a few heroic Demon Summoning concepts:
Your character could be a redeemer on a quest to save souls. Maybe that character likes the idea of using evil demons for the purpose redemption. Or maybe he/she's trying to redeem the demons themselves?
Another idea is a character who is a cowboy who wrangles demons and then uses them to help people.
Or maybe summoning demon-like entities and fire whips is that character's mutant superpower and they decide to use those powers for good.
Personally, I'm going to make a DS/Poison character who has spent his life studying the secrets of alchemy (including using potions to summon demons). It's a concept that can work as a hero, villain or somewhere in between. I haven't decided which way I'll go yet.
- A mutant with the power to open doors between dimensions.
- A reformed sorcerer who now uses his/her powers for good.
- A scientist who has developed a portable device that opens dimensional apertures.
- An escaped denizen of hell on the path to redemption.
All of these have appeared in various comics, anime, etc...the only limit to how this set will work with your concepts is your imagination. -
I was looking at the vid for the new kinetic melee:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFQPqPwayfI
When it dawned on me. This sets resemblance to Dominator assault sets is more than a little obvious. Melee attacks, short-range attacks, and a little bit of mitigation mixed in. Makes me sort of hopeful doms may get their own version of this some day. -
Quote:I don't know about build up..but I swear I see a move that looks like "Siphon Power" in that video. If it gets a self-buffing powers like that or a crazy (self-only) clone of fulcrum shift..I won't miss build up. I like new things and sets that break the old modes...this looks like it may do that. What are the odds it won't get Buildup? .....

Darn you beat me to posting this!!! Wheee...this looks like fun..and finally the Incarnate system. Just when I was about to let my sub lapse.

I apologize if my search-fu is weak. I tried to find information on this and can't. I'm wondering if anyone has tried a Dual Pistol/Kinetics corrupter and how it fairs as a combination. Any must have powers...stupid Pistol tricks, or any other advice you can offer for the combo?
Just based on what I know about kinetics..its seems like Kin might possibly pair with Pistols very well. -
Quote:Not sure if you started..but I would strongly suggest plant/psi or earth/psi over fire/psi..if you planning on taking on lots of AVs. Of those choices having an Earth/Psi on your team guarantees some needed Debuffs and Animate Stone is a very tough pet..who'll tank an EB or AV for you. Psi will help debuff regen..with smart use of drain psyche.Wow thanks alot for all the great info everyone. Me and my friends defenitaly have some thinking to do. After looking over all this we have even thought maybe we wont be all Doms? Might try to find just a "superteam" of 3 toons that work well together And since AV's will be a challenge Im thinking I will roll a fire/psi for the -regen -rech, just got to find 2 other AT's that will work well. Also to Deacon, my friends and I just plan on running the SF's as they come up. We have just been gettin kinda bored and this team is just a team to run with, have fun and do alot of the arcs, and SFs we usually dont do. The 4th memeber for the SFs isnt a big deal I got a good SG that someone will help us start and then jump off. Again thanks alot everyone for your thoughts and info, it really helped and is appreciated.

My Necro/Dark MM (i Know not a defender) opens every fight with HT. It's amazing effective. I have it slotted for recharge as it's auto-hit and doesn't need an accuracy check. I would suggest Howling Twilight, followed by Tar Patch, or your AoE immobilize. Especially on a full team..that way you can duck around a corner to avoid the aggro.
Easily one of my favorite powers in the game. After almost five years, it never gets boring to use.. -
Quote:You are going to get more bang for your buck out of the Plant/Psi. It's an extremely versatile combo as Mobs that resist both confuse and hold are rare. While Carrion Creepers can almost tank for you if you put in enough recharge. Earth/Elec would be my second choice. Earth is capable of great mob control and debuffing. Grav/Eng is not as impressive as its AoE control is mostly soft control. It's ST monster however, but ST focused control builds are not as versatile IMHO.Ok I have 3 dom's right now 2 at 32 and 1 at 35.
They are;grav/nrg
plant/psi
earth/ele
I want to get one of them to 50 but,I am largely undecided as I like all of them equally.Anyone have some advice on which one,the benefits of one of them,is one stronger, more versatile?
Any help/advice is appreciated. -
If you're not teamed with a MM or on a full team in general. I love full teams with a Dom for this reason. Domination builds very quickly and with increased damage I don't mind the increase recharge as much. Tier one blasts aren't so bad..and do decent damage if fired in rapid succession. By that time my next tier AoE blasts and controls are up..wham, bam, hold dead. Doms definitely perform best when teamed...

Redside; you are a villain in cities populated by other villains and you fight against these other villains o.O. How often do you take on a hero when you play as red? Almost never... because there simply almost never is a hero in CoV. Sure you meet some FC's from time to time but compare this to play on the blueside. Nothing you do on redside really seem to have any impact on the world cause there is so many other villains doing the exact same thing. Even the banks you rob is located on the rogue islands.
You don't fight any hero nemesis. You don't scheme anything big and sinister against Paragon City and it's inhibitants. All you do is cowering in the Rogue Islands wiping the arachnos b*** while watching the brown and the grey colors, running around in a city that looks like it's lived through the II World War inhabited by millions of npc villains doing just the same thing you do: nothing..
I'm taking a break from the game right now..but I played mostly villains for the past few years. I'd agree with this sentiment. I think the boat was missed here when the red side of the game was designed. I don't mind the grittiness of the Zones...but placing the entire Rouge Isles under Recluses dominion was the big mistake I think. He should control Grandville and perhaps mercy. Offering sanctuary to various unsavory types, for a price of course.
The rest of the Isles should have been populated by normal folks and patrolled by police, heroes, and other groups. The one Zone that gets this almost right is Nerva. And speaking to the Darla and the "Shadowy Figure" in those Zones you really do feel like a villain on the run from the law. If I could revamp red side I'd put in more longbow, ppd, legacy chain, and Wyvern and move all the Arachnos troops out..to very specific areas. The newspaper missions would put villians up against hero groups and vary rarely have them go against other villain groups, etc.... -
For what it's worth I started an arc awhile ago.that I try to revist and work on "The Search for War Witch".
It basically involves War Witches comrade "Apex" going rogue and attempting to free her from Limbo. She asks the player charchters to stop him before he's succesfull, as his efforts could bring forth a doomsday.
I'm having trouble with because I can't get certain game mechanics I want to work for it to work...but tossing the idea out there for those interested. -
There is a regular COH player who has a great Dr Strange/Dr. Fate homage toon....Mystic_Fortune. I don't have any have a screenies with him in it...but he posts on the forums regularly. His costumes great but I have no idea what power sets he uses.
If you dont mind being a bit unconventional (and you have unlocked Epics) a Human Form Kheldian could work, especially a Warshade. You have access to a wide variety of buffs, debuffs, holds, teleportation, and damage dealing powers.
a dark/dark defender could work very well. Or a Mind/Rad or Mind/Emp controller. -
wow sci-fi and fantasy fans not knowing who Mercedes Lackey is....eek..well that's what Google and Wikipedia are for.
And squee..I can't wait to try Mercdes' arc. She's one of my favorite authors! Good job folks on pulling this off. -
I eventually bit the bullet and went perma dom II. I used some extra infamy I had to nab two more LOTG (well that and some recipes/ios I had stored up for perma). After a little respecing my recharge is about 95%, that and six slotted hasten seems to do the trick. I'm surprised what a difference just a little bit more recharges makes. I thought perma was cool before..its pretty amazing now. I still have to baby sit hasten/domination..but nearly as much as before.
Thanks for all the feedback, helped me make my decision to go the next level. -
Earth, Mind, or Plant with Stone, Psi, or Fiery Assault.
Any combination of the above will work extremely well.
Oops edit saw you wanted to stay mostly at range..that nixes stone..but honestly Stone Assault is a very safe melee oriented set, as it has extra controls in its knockdowns and disorients. -
Quote:Pretty much agree with Fiery-E on this one. Earth/Fire would be ok. But honestly, Plant/Psi, Earth/Psi, and Fire/Psi are all better choices. Psychic Shockwave still packs a nasty AoE punch and Psychic Scream isn't a bad cone. Picking up Bile Spray from the PPP's helps as well.Just to kinda ask about the original topic if that's ok... I'd like a Domi for farming, I like brutes and Blue side i'm now using a blaster instead of my Firekin because she is faster but I miss the control side of it... nice to have a tightly packed group unable to flee.
So has anyone looked at the double PbAoe thing you get from Fire/Earth ??
Is it work taking a Fire/Earth/Soul Domi for, HotFeet and Mud pots and Sould Drain?
Or is there a better combo ? I was thinking about IO'ing for Damage bonus.
Stoney Assault is a great ST damage set. But I'm not so sure about it's AoE potential. I've read mixed reviews on how well Hotfeet and Mudpots work together. -
The PPP's don't really add much to an SOA build IMHO. On my huntsman build I went with a double maneuvers and assault. It's a great team build and you're providing defender level buffs to defense and damage.
If you're going with a hunstman type build, pick up the leadership pool. I just don't see the patron pools adding that much utility to an SoA build. Everything they have you can already do. -
I can't believe no one mentioned the good ol Necr/Dark/Soul Master Mind. If having a cadre of undead zombies and specters is your thing.
Hero side, the good ol 3-d Defender Dark/Dark/Dark is suitable for magic. Mind/Kin controllers aren't bad either for a magical theme. And of course all the combos mentioned here..would be good choices. Illusion control works well for magic based toons too. -
So now that we are well into the dominator upgrades and changes. I was wondering how many of us regular Dom players are doing? More specifically regarding perma-dom, Is it even really necessary anymore?
I have one perma Fire/Psi, he’ really badly specced ("roughly" 70% or so with six slotted hasten) and requires constant watching of the both hasten and the domination click-power-inherent. I’m much too lazy to respec him (playing the market gives me a migraine) and find having to micro manage domination is fun for me.
I’m also finding my other high level Dom’s are doing just fine without being perma:
- My mind/energy has can handle most EB level opponents solo and rocks on teams.
- My Earth and Plant Doms can take on a map set for a team 4 just using SO’s.
Also, in I’m not running into as many permadoms in-game as I used too. However, I’m pleased that I regularly see quite a few Mind/ Earth/ and Fire/ Doms (usually paired with /electric or /stone assault). I’m also noticing a lot less “dom hate” in the forums and public chat etc… All of these things seem like good things to me.
So do you all think perma-dom has gone the way of the dinosaur? Also do the Dom vets feel the AT is pretty much perfectly balanced now (i.e set bonuses/perma dom/etc…just aren’t needed to compete well with the other AT’s performance)? -
Hmm..the medicine pool ally heal is good in a pinch..but not really something I'd make build sacrifices to slot for. I think having tp friend is really enough to help out in that situation. And you can always carry around extra rezzes in your inspiration tray.
