New Dom player needs advice on Build

So, I've played a couple doms over the years, and have yet to come across one I really liked. I know I15 changed the way they play enormously, and I had a mind/elec in the 30s that I got bored with, even though it was pretty powerful.

So what I'm looking for is a good all around dom build. I've done fire control to death and am bored with that, so barring a great concept, no fire/ for me, lol. Any other primary is fair game, providing I can find a concept to get behind. Secondaries are also fair game. I would like something that has a good mix of range and aoe ability (which they all seem to do) and aim or build up.

So gurus, what's a good combo?

What other primary do you care for?

That's just it, other than Fire, I'm pretty neutral about them all. I know how most of them do for controllers, but Doms aren't controllers, so I don't know what combo will do well and what will have me hitting the delete button before lvl 10, lol.

For what it's worth, I'd prefer to stay at range to dish out damage, so only 1 or 2 melee attacks for if/when they manage to get in my face, or when I need a big burst to take down a threat (not a major worry there, they'll be mezzed before they have a chance to do any harm, but still).

Earth, Mind, or Plant with Stone, Psi, or Fiery Assault.

Any combination of the above will work extremely well.

Oops edit saw you wanted to stay mostly at range..that nixes stone..but honestly Stone Assault is a very safe melee oriented set, as it has extra controls in its knockdowns and disorients.

My level 50 Dominators:
Madame Mindbender 50 Mind/Energy
Fly Agaric 50 Plant/Thorn
Nate Nitro 50 Fire/Psi

For my 2c I would recommend either Plant/Psi or Earth/Psi.

Earth/Psi in particular has a lot to offer teams with its abundant -def and Drain Psyche's -regen for tough targets.

If I were to recommend something on this it would be ice/psi. Good mix of range and AOE, although it does not have build up, it is still welcomed. From all the slows floor rech and movement speed is quite nice. Also Arctic Air is a wonderful if you do want to go into melee.

I have one going right now, and I have had no problems on teams and brought a lot to the field to help them.

Of course though YRMV.

I'm having a decently fun time with a melee oriented Ice/Stone.

Opening with Ice Slick lets you get into melee range without taking an Alpha Strike. That lets you get full effect from Arctic Air safely. One application of Shiver plus 2 applications of Frostbite floors the recharge and run speed of the mobs. You can then smash with impunity. Perma Dom just makes it that much better.

Think I am going to go either Earth/Psi or Ice/Psi. Earth and Ice both offer location AoE KD effects, allowing me to rush in and DP and PSW. Ice is looking best, because of the synergy with the Mako patron pool. Just a matter of seeing what kind of fun concept I can come up with, lol.

Thanks y'all!

Just so you know, a better strategy for Earth/Psi is to hit with Stalagmites (AoE Stun) and then lay down your location-based AoEs or DP/PSW. Earthquake (or Ice Slick for that matter) by itself will not absorb an alpha strike.

If you want to stay at range going mind/anything is pretty good - both mesmerize and levitate are basically ranged blasts that also include controls so you can fill in a ranged attack chain with those two powers. I have tried both mind/elec and mind/energy and both work fairly well. Pretty much anything/energy would also allow you to stay mostly at range as energy gets power bolt, power push and power blast by level 10, then adds in power burst at L38.

The problem with most of these combo's is that you are going to be low on AE damage. Mind/electric might be the best bet here as you will get electric's cone plus terrify, which does ok damage (although it costs way to much end and is on to long a recharge to be a good attack) or you could go plant/electric or plant/energy and use roots + carrion creeper for extra AE damage.

Well, I worked up an Ice/Psi build, focusing heavily on ST DPS, while putting PSW on a good timer, so I can run in and DP>PSW after I've locked down/knocked down the mob.

I'm not looking at Ice Slick for 100% mitigation, but more like AA, as damage *resistance*. It should provide enough mitigation to give me time to kill stuff with Scream (and Spout, later) and my ST attacks/controls. Plus, I don't like sleeps, so other than Glacier (and late later the AoE immob, which I'm only getting to keep mobs in Spout for the insane damage it can do over time) I only really have Ice Slick for mass mitigation.

I'm not looking at this toon to farm or anything, or do insanely high mob counts in mishes. Most I'll crank it up to is +2/x5. Good sized spawns, easy to defeat one at a time, especially after Scream cuts their HP down. And with all the -rech/-speed, after the alpha, they won't get much of a chance to do anything to me anyway.

Here's the build, tell me what you think!

The Norse Frost Giants (the bad guys in Norse mythology) come to mind. Sif (Thor's wife) was 1/2 frost giant and was the goddess of prophecy and divination (not too far a stretch to get to Psi from there).

Hmm, nice idea. Female frost giant would be interesting to do. Wikipedia, away!

With Miladys' idea set in my head, I created Gygjur on Freedom, Ice/Psi frost giantess. The name is what ancient Norse folks called female frost giants.

Slowly working on her, but I don't get much playtime and when I do anything more than check markets and such, I usually end up teaming with RO folks on whatever they are doing. But I'm looking forward to getting the time to play her.

Thanks for all the advice and knowledge!
