Quote:Are you kidding? People where complaining enough about how unpolished i15 was off the bat despite the big "THIS IS WHAT CLOSED BETA IS LIKE" and "THIS IS STILL IN WHAT WE WOULD CALL A CLOSED BETA STATE".I think they should've made it open beta straight away just like they did with i15.
For something like what they have going on with i16 would be suicide to not do closed beta. -

Try the WYSIWYG editor for the smilie list.
User CP works fine for me to get to my messages.
Multiquote is used to quote several different people with one post, so you don't get people like me who like to attribute each quote to the right person doing a spamming of posts. You clock multi-quote for each person you want to quote. -
As long as it's in the feel of the "uploaded sig image" restrictions - less than 1/8th meg, 600*125 or so pixels - I'm fine with it.

Quote:Exactly.A very good announcement. I've seen hotlinked images on other forums replaced by the victim with some truly horrific pics. The sort of thing that could get someone banned in very short order. And I can't really say that I disaprove of this tactic, either.
The pictures I'm linking to are screencaps from my friend's eBay ad, and then from the eBay ad of one of his competitors. And serious eBay sellers do check the compitition out, so I have no idea why the guy thought it was alright to completely copy of the ad's hi-points. -

FatherXmas is completly correct on this - I frequently had disconnects/long freezes before adding to my RAm - and I barely notice the delay now when opening the market interface.

On these brave new forums, we have been entrusted with the awesome power of the IMG tag.
With this, we have a power once reserved for the Demigods alone.
Please do not abuse it.
Proper online etiquette states you should link to the page, and not just pull the image into the forums with the image tag (called "Hotlinking"), if you are not hosting the image on your own web space.
This is especially true for avatars and signature images, as those will be called up every time you post (these forums DO NOT store/host such images). That is why we have imageshack and photobucket.
Otherwise, you might end up with a picture like this :

Turning into this : CAUTION - NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGE TO SELF
Because it's not the hosts fault if they decide to replace an image on their server with one named identically to the old, yet radically different.
Thank you. I hope you have enjoyed this Public Service Announcement -

On the plus side, there were enough server-side issues that they are going to give us an extra DXP weekend after i16 goes live.

Quote:Actually, at worst we have the exact same viewing options as before.See, the point isn't whether or not it's ignoring, the point is that beforehand, I could view what i wanted in english, and now I have to view everything. If they're going to go so far as to put the boards together on one system, they could at least create a selector tab so that those people who don't speak languages other than American/English don't have to see the other posts..
We just didn't have non-American languages to deal with in the first place.
What are you, a Californian to be complaining about this kinda stuff?

Quote:In preparation for the forum merge, I purposely made Xanatos and Lazarus on the EU boards.Same, couldn't find any trace of Lazarus_EU. The name shows up in that weird dropdown list when you're typing in a name but search shows not a single post.
Bwahahahaha.
Or not. Hmm... -
Quote:/petitionI have submitted the suggestion to be able to disable it several times through the petition system. Maybe if many more do so it will get done sometime. Don't hold your breath though.
or /bug and choosing the "Suggestion" radio button?
The forum just clogs up the petition system. -
Quote:The old boards worked that way - the forums have never hosted the image. That's why those of us with a rotating avatar HAVE rotating avatars.Looks like I'll just be having to use AdBlock on these forums, a lot. It works but I have to do it for every single sig and if the sig is changed it has to be blocked again. I know I block using a wildcard but I just want the annoying sigs gone, not every damn image that is hosted from that location.
Also it turns out that avatars are being loaded from the location you grabbed them from in your settings every time the page loads rather than being stored locally on the board's server. Found that out when I blocked an entire domain and the poster's avatar also vanished with the sig. That explains why avatars are often failing to load, the burden is being shifted to the original host site.
THIS JUST IN : Rotating sigs now possible!
As it's been said, it's on the way.Quote:Without the Dev digest working, or the ability to "show all" for a given thread, I'm afraid the new forums are pretty useless to me. Still, I'm happy that these should require less maintainance for you.
If it's a huge pic, I'm going to report it. Not everyone has a fast connection.Quote:I still think the overall size of images in signatures should be reduced. I've seen several that are fairly svelte and get the point across. I don't block those. The giant ones that dwarf the actual message they're attached to -- I don't really see the point. Less is more, as they say.
Maybe they are still rewriting the script that used to bring the forums to it's knees. The old trackers worked through a script run on a regular interval that searched for developer posts - back before it became policy to regularly scrub old posts/threads hard we used to get massive slowdowns regularly in the forums for a few minutes - the source being the dev tracker script which is/was a complete 3rd party add-on (if not outright hack). -

Quote:Just to give you an earmark, I had a Pentium 233 about 11-12 years ago. A 166 would be a 12-14 year old bit of tech.I'll just have to take you at your word Lemur, because when it comes to computers I admit the software/hardware speak is all gibberish to me. That lack of understanding is why I didn't take what the OP said as belligerent. I thought it was merely venting. That and he only made two posts. I thought he blew off steam and left.
Similar time frame for the 10-based T being consumer upper end-ish. -
Quote:In fact, I've noticed they tend to start doing things we, the forumites, can see around ten o'clock, local time (Pacific Time Zone).Actually, it's only just 7 am over their side of the country - give them time to shower, get dressed, have breakfast and travel to work

Currently it's 9am their/my time.
They need to patch the servers, however, during lower-traffic times, and all at once for a given login server (or all together if it involves the Market or MA servers). -
Cavatina was just saying the big issue with the S/D on purples is because people keep doing AE and AE does not drop purples unless you do Developer's Choice with normal (non-ticket) rewards.

Quote:Opps, sorry, missed the bit about pathing. Not true. Before the change, whenever you tried to place objects in the base the game was constantly telling you that you couldn't put it there because it "blocked raid pathing." So even if you never intended to ever have a raid, you had to arrange your base as if you were. It was a huge pain for basebuilders.

Quote:Closest I would see for an open beta would most likely be a pre-order beta access since this is a traditional expansion. If it's a boxed expansion, which requires you to pay money for it, why would there be an open beta? I get that you can entice people by letting them test-drive the new stuff before putting money into it, but there's not a lot of precedent for it.
There was at least 2-3 months - there were three main waves, and pre-orders had access to beta starting a couple weeks prior to the release as well. -
Quote:For them to allow RIP IO sets to be slotted, the would have to enable the ability to slot damage enhancements - as because that is what all RIP IOs are at their core (they just enhance non-damage elements too). When I went off on support over this power not allowing me to slot the IOs I'd already crafted this wasn't quite the response I was hoping for. Oh, bother. On the plus side I sold them for a hefty profit and six slotted lockdown instead. I do agree that they should either tune down the recharge on this pet, allow slotting of recharge intensive pet enhancements or make the pet have a longer timer on it. I'm considering dropping this power simply because I don't seem to get much use out of it.
So the lower recharge time or longer pet life are more likely if they do any kinda change in that.
