Wentsworth...Wow?
We just had a 2x XP weekend. Prices always skyrocket during and immediately afterward. They'll drop and stabilize again over the next few weeks.
I think it's nutty and try to stay away from the market game myself. I use it to quickly get rid of salvage and recipes, and that's about it. If there's something I must have, I bid low and wait. Eventually I will get what I want.
Sucks dont it? The only thing that will so called fix it is if people ran normal content more than AE stuff. But as long as they can get their easy levels with hardly any risk, it wont happen. People have proved in this game they like the easy way out. I wouldnt doubt some of the people that PL like mad in AE also buy inf from RMTers..If I was wrong then the RMTers would be out of business now wouldnt they....
Only other thing they could do is increase drop rates because of so many not doing normal mission arcs. Lack of supply and increse in inf does the market bad.
So...Just doing a random survey.
The prices in WW are through the roof and before it was actually possible to complete a build with lots of purple set pieces but not things like Armageddon cost 180Mil a piece, and that's just for the recipe. Thoughts? Feelings? I have subscribed to this thread |
Ergo prices skyrocket due to sheer demand.
when half the stuff on the market has 2000+ bidders and 78 supply, what do you think is gonna happen?

and once more people show they have zero grasp of the effect of double exp weekends on economic situations.

I just think perhaps in the near future they should consider a way to fix the Market. I have suggestions but this is not the board to do it in.
...that and pretty much any suggestion about AE gets attacked by a pack of rabid players who are pissed about the game.

Yeah the market is now pretty much all demand and no supply. I'm not screaming for a fix because the only characters that I ever planned on giving purple sets too are done. Everything else from there is just IOs.

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.
The higher end stuff (good purples and procs) were at those prices before double XP weekend.
I got 150-200mil each for a Miracle proc and a Hecatomb recipe in the last month. 80-100 mil each for three respec recipes.
All those people leveling in AE (i.e, no random drops, just tickets) are drying up the supplies of rare items. Without reducing demand. High demand + lower supply = crazy prices.

I believe that for a long time purple prices were actually artificially low due to vast amounts of farming. Being able to buy a purple for a mere 30m-50m is abnormal, when you consider their astronomically low droprate (most players who don't farm may only see one every several months; a level 50 character is practically guaranteed to earn more than that amount in the time it takes them to get one purple through normal drops). When farming moved to Task Force speedrunning, then to AE, the supply of purples was no longer inflated and you are seeing a return to their true value.
DXP, hordes of powerlevelled 50s trying to trick themselves out, and people trying to grind influence to afford them (thus further devaluing the currency) also have something to do with it, yes.
i16 will likely make "traditional" farming more lucrative than AE farming again, so expect prices to fall soon.
Cavatina was just saying the big issue with the S/D on purples is because people keep doing AE and AE does not drop purples unless you do Developer's Choice with normal (non-ticket) rewards.

Cav wasnt, I was saying that in so many words lol. Cav was just mocking me pretty much saying im ignorant of what is going on when they couldnt be me WRONG. The market was borked before 2x XP, but sure enough 2x XP always goofs it a tad more. Its a good time to make more inf than usual.

"Good" or "Bad" to them though.
1> Every single price you've seen in the Last 5 on the market was an
actual sale. A real person plunked down their play money and said "give
that shiny to me NAO!"
2> What those prices actually turn out to be is largely governed by just
two factors.
The supply - ie. how many of the item(s) are actually produced and
placed on the market for sale.
The demand - ie. how important, how useful, and more importantly, how
many people are willing to pay for that item at a given price.
Less supply = higher price (if the item is desirable and in demand).
More demand = higher price (since more people compete for the limited
supply of those items).
Those factors can be shown as curves on a graph, and where they cross
is typically the "normal price" range for that item.
Things that affect either of those factors change the price. Ie. AE missions
don't drop items. Supply drops ---> prices go up... 2XP weekend makes
higher level characters who want more IO's. Demand increases ---> Prices
go up.
3> Regardless of what prices actually do, inf can be made either way.
When prices go up, *selling* items you get is very lucrative. When prices
go down, *buying* or *crafting* items is a cheaper way to outfit
your characters and/or create items to sell when prices go back up.
Finally, Sticker Shock is a very common first (and gut) reaction to the
markets. The two important ideas to take away (imho) are these:
> Prices are what they are through natural processes determined by buyers.
> Understanding the Market will lead you to more profit (and better equipped
toons) once you learn how utilize these processes for your own benefit.

I've been rich, and I've been poor. Rich is definitely better.
Light is faster than sound - that's why some people look smart until they speak.
For every seller who leaves the market dirty stinkin' rich,
there's a buyer who leaves the market dirty stinkin' IOed. - Obitus.
