Why have the servers turned to crap?
I haven't had any issues except with very minor mapservers this weekend, which is a lot better than I expected. Maybe you should see about switching ISPs, especially since you say you have the same problems with both coasts?
No problems here in the rural north of British Columbia. Sorry your connection isn't working that well for you.
I'm tired of getting mapserved at crucial moments while doing RWZ raids or TFs. This started at the beginning of July and this last weekend has been just worthless. It would be nice to have a stable connection on either the east or west coast servers. I've tried them both.
I know they upgraded the servers to Pentium 166s a few years ago, but maybe they should think about upgrading the network to at least 10baseT? |
Oh yeah, that was the time that girl got her whatchamacallit stuck in that guys dooblickitz and then what his name did that thing with the lizards and it cleared right up.

wow, that post is full of fail. not a single problem here in months, i would suggest you take a look at the consistency of you internet connection. if there was a problem with the servers, holy hell would break loose on the forums, but since it hasn't, this is YOUR issue, not the servers. and i'll assume the last bit was sarcastic, but you just come off looking like a basement dwelling angry loser. my suggestion? try to actually figure out what is wrong instead of getting all butt hurt and posting angry little rants.

qr:It does seem like the problem is on your end.
What does /netgraph 1 give you ? You should get a nice low green lawn. If you're getting lots of tall green spikes, or little bits of red, you can figure out your problem from there.
(/netgraph 0 turns off the netgraphery.)

Stop saying it's on this guys end. It's not. Take a look at the tech forum. There are multiple threads there about the mapserver problems. I know quite a few people in addition to myself who have been having problems with the Mapserver. The problem is on NCsoft's end.
As much as I hate to interrupt such great and inaccurate flaming, there have been some problems acknowledged with at least two servers, Protector and Champion, and the West Coast group, in general, had some rough times, briefly, this weekend. Whether it has been too widespread or excessively severe, I'll leave to the remnants of the smoldering thread.

So stop acting like you know where the problem lies.
The trouble here is really that some folks don't understand that there isn't just two "ends" to talk about. There's the player's end, NCSoft's end, and then there is the entire mess of internets between the two. It's entirely possible that something between the player and the servers is crosscocked and making life miserable. This means that there isn't much that NCSoft or the player can do. It sucks, but that's how it is. Of course, that's not to say all is perfectly well; I'm getting the odd ten-second mapserver problem every few hours during this extremely busy time but certainly not the epic issues some folks report.
tl;dr: If a problem happens for some folks but not for others, all using the same service, that means that it's probably not entirely caused by a problem on the service provider's end.

I've been fine in recent times, besides the odd crash when I'm not doing anything.
The problem's probably on your end.
I had nothing but problems all weekend on Virtue, everyone on my team and ppl in other zones experienced the same thing, continual mapserve.
I contacted support and got the run around for two days saying it was my pc/modem/router.Finally after pointing out for the fifteenth time everyone else was experiencing it,a techie said they knew of server wide problems.I know when my stuff isn't workin now if support would recognize that their stuff has problems too we would have a better time.
Anyone know how to lock a thread, or to get in touch with a Moderator? It seems those options have disappeared as well...

Unless you are sitting in a chair right next to the OP you have no idea if the problem he says he is having is on his end or not.

To the OP - as some less snarky posters have already noted, this weekend there was an unusual load on some servers due to the double xp weekend. I know I saw it on protector, which was unplayable for me sunday morning when I normally have problems (1200 ms ping times, mapserver disconnects like crazy). However by sunday evening protector was back to normal for me (150 ms ping times, not problems). So take any problems you saw last weekend as possibly being caused by the 2xp weekend.
As for problems you saw before this weekend - here is the link to the general network troubleshooting thread, I would recommend running through the info here to see if there are network issues on your side that need to be cleared up:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=120694
Ultimately if you DO have connectivity issues you will probably need to get your ISP involved and linked up with ncsoft support so that if there are problems on the ISP's end they can get them cleaned up.

The problem is either at your end, or between you and their servers. I, and many other people, have been having ZERO problems.

And since I am a network tech, I ran several packet traces and invariably the hang up happens once they hit the NCSoft servers.
So yes, the bottleneck is on the server side, not the client.
Probably an internal networking issue related to insufficient bandwidth for the amount of traffic that double XP weekend generated or inadequate system resources to support the number of instances running.
I did not say the problem the OP was having was on his end. The only thing I said was that I did not experience any mapserving, nor did I see anyone complain about any mapserving while I was online. All I saw was the normal comments on lag which occur every 2xp weekend.
Judging by the responses here and in other threads where this topic has gotten mentioned very few people experienced any problems
If you had bothered to read the thread instead of apparantly picking one post at random to get snarky with you would have seen that, however that type of behaviour is probably too much to expect from someone posting on an internet forum.
And yet, here we are, with lots of folks having no issues. Of course, nobody makes a thread to say "hey, no troubles here, aces!" so we don't notice.

So you're just going to say it's all magically on our side? I don't think so.
No but if those in Australia isn't seeing the problem but those in the states are, then it's implied that the problem is with one or more switches the US players go through that Australian players don't and not the game servers in general. Or do you think NCSoft wire transpacific players through a different switch?

Please try to refrain from flinging around stuff like "full of fail"..."basement dwelling angry loser"..."butt hurt"...and "angry little rants".

Here's some advice. Take a deep breath. Count to 10, and stop jumping to conclusions. Cutting down on your caffeine intake is probably a good idea too.
This point here is where your problem lies. Your not thinking. You are just assuming that the difficulty the OP experienced is somehow on NCSofts end without any evidence to back it up.

Whoa, drop the caffeine? I don't know about that poster but I couldn't live without my 4 24oz diet Rockstars a day. I agree with the rest of it though. I live in AZ and only rarely have issues. I chalk most of it up to a bad hop somewhere and go about my business as best I can.

Just because some of you were not online during those or at different servers does not mean anything. He may be experiencing issues at his end but these are so widespread that they just gave the players ANOTHER double xp weekend.
These flames would not be here if the OP was not belligerent, but it does not make them more credible.
