  1. I dunno...I ran thru praet content with a stone/wp brute and didn't have too much trouble...started out loyalist then flipped to resistance after a certain mission...which i won't reveal for the sake of avoiding possible spoilers.

Just to toss this out there...

    /bind shift+w powexecname sprint

    /bind g "powexecname combat jumping$$powexecname ninja run"

Many of my toons use NR for main travel power. The first bind is pretty self explanatory. Since W is forward anyway...just a quick tap of the shift key...and now i'm sprinting. Another tap...and normal speed.

The second bind, for the toons i have that picked up CJ along the way, is used to quickly switch between the two powers as needed. Just a quick key press, and switch from one to the other on the fly.

Between these 2 binds, you'll be able to kick out a quick burst of speed when you needed it in no time flat and go back to battle mode just as quickly (ie, no sprint and CJ on). I've gotten so used to this setup that i can switch "modes" in less than a second.

When I first read about TW and the momentum mechanic, this is I i initially envisioned it working. Starting out slow and ramping up speed-wise as you went. But, I'd say that the way the Devz went wasn't too shabby and works rather well.

When you think about it, you really can't get something that big moving that fast indefinitely. You WILL wear yourself out trying. Translate that into game terms and...you get the current momentum mechanic. You can get it moving pretty good for a short stint before you have to slow back down again.

It's actually kind of a "both" issue. At the lower levels when you don't have many attacks, you can just about burn through all of your attacks when momentum kicks in. Higher up, when you can get a few more attack under your belt, this is a bit less of an issue as momentum doesn't last quite long enough for you to fire everything off. But, with Build Momentum, yeah...you can cycle through every attack before something recharges, save for maybe Defensive Sweep.

Hasten does help with this, but i don't really think it's a necessity. I've got it on my TW/EA brute, and had it set to auto-fire, but turned it off for a screenshot and forgot to re-engage the auto-fire on hasten. It actually took me a mission or two before it hit me that i wasn't getting stuff back as fast as i should...but all in all it didn't really slow me down...much.
  6. I personally ran a TA/Archery defender to level 50....and thus far as been my ONLY defender to make the full trip. Was definitely a fun toon to play for me.

I made him as a perma-hover/fly toon, designed to lay waist at range. Rarely ever worried about flyers that could meet me up in the air to melee me, thanks to Entangling Arrow and it's -fly. With a bit of setup, and depending on the mobs, he could fairly easily handle full spawns all by his lonesome with little worry...and this was before IO's.

As far as lighting the OS arrow...that's right up Blazing Arrow's alley. I even made a keybind that would specifically target the OS so i wouldn't have to search for it.

And of course, let us not forget Rain of Arrows. Between this and OS, especially with disruption arrow going, things fall pretty damn fast. I'd expect that on a Corr, this might be a bit better with the corr's better damage and Scourge running. RoA could virtually wipe out most/all minions in an even conning spawn, seriously hurt LT's and bosses weren't in great shape either. After that...the lit oil slick ticks down the rest. If anything ever survived...it was but barely.

I've also done a Thugs/TA MM, though i haven't played him in a while. /TA plays well with the thug's tendancy for range, and the Arsonist does a pretty darn good job of lighting the slick for me.
  7. First of all...for giving up so early on a dommy...<Delivers a Leroy Jethro Gibbs headslap to the mom...stalker...guy..............> ...Just say thank you and leave it at that....

I can't really speak for the fire/fire but I do have a P/T dom in the high 40's.

Plant is one of the better, if not a good contender for one of the best, control sets out there. It has one of the best every-mob controls in the form of Seeds of Confusion. A fairly wide, and decent ranged mass confusion power. Doesn't take much slotting to make perma due to a fast base recharge of one minute and a decently lasting confuse effect. If there is a downside to this power, is that unlike other powers of its kind, you DO draw aggro on anything you missed....or is resistant to confuse (CURSE YOU NEMESIS!) Outside of these instances...slot it, use it, LOVE IT!

Carrion Creepers: these suckers are just plain fun. Location AoE patch that spawns big creepy screamy viney things all over the friggin place. They can actually attact aggro to themselves, attack enemies, and sometimes put stuff on their rear ends. Also have a decent slow. Nicer still...they actually stick around for a while. You could fight one mob...beat the stuffing out of them...run down the hall...start another fight...and HELLO...more vines start popping up all over the place.

The AoE immobilize actually has some fairly decent damage to it, tho unless you're a controller, that won't really be that big of a deal. You're main use for it...stick all those suckers you just clustered up with Seeds of Confusion to the floor for some good AoE slaughtery goodness.

Vines is a pretty good, if standard fair AoE hold...but one of which that is ranged. A plus in my book.

Chompy (Or Audry II), Or commonly known as Giant Fly Trap, to me is just friggin cool lookin. Not a particularly bad pet either. Does some ranged damage...melee attacks...a bit of aoe...and immobilizes from time to time.

Tree of Life. Think Triage Beacon from Traps....but...in tree form. Don't think the +regen is quite as high tho. Not bad...not great either. I skipped it personally.

Ranged AoE sleep. Eh...it's a sleep...but it's ranged. Could help with adds maybe....but i skipped this one too. Still...might be good for a set mule.

As far as /Thorns go...if you have experience with Spines...then you'll already have a decent grasp on thorns...save that you'll have a bit more ranged attacks. Pretty good damage IME. Especially after the changes they made to doms with the overall damage boost. Not the highest damage set...but definitely not lacking. Downsides are going to be redraw (which didn't bother me) and it's Lethal damage with most powers having a Toxic DoT.

/Fire pretty much has the highest damage for dommy assault sets, and tho i haven't personally tried it yet, i hear that Plant/Fire doms are carnage in motion. Good control paired with great damage.
  8. Hi. My name is RaikenX...and I'm a "poor planner" because I'm still an SO slob.

    LOL

Sorry Dechs. I had to...it was there!

I'm actually, little by little, trying to get a good grasp on IO's after my accident with making a pretty friggin good brute.

I still tend to stick with SO's till around 27 when i can start slotting basic 30 IO's, but usually hold off on sets till sometime later, usually when i can figure out how i really wanna slot stuff and which powers i may/may not wanna keep/take.

    On topic:

A friend and I actually had a pretty good amount of success with his Fire/Ice tanker and my TA/Archery Defender. He'd grab agro, cluster up the mobs...then i'd debuff the snot outta them and toss in Oil Slick Arrow. ....There's just something about shooting that arrow at a Fire tanker and making their Burn patch really, REALLY big! Hehehehehehe.

    Oh....and of course...Rain of Arrows.

My Stone/WP brute that i don't even have softcapped, but pretty good defenses, can handle quite a lot of stuff at /x8 and not even break a sweat. But those blasted Arachnos give me utter Hades.

    Perhaps both?

    To OP:

I rolled a TW/EA brute and dinged 28 a couple of days ago (somewhat sporadic play). As was mentioned in other threads as well as here, slotting priorities are acc and end redux.

My experience was a little like...first couple of levels...rock and roll. Then i started getting a few extra attacks. Ok...blue bar is starting to take some hits. Extra toggles...wow...i seem to be rather short-winded here. After hitting SO's the Blue tax did sometimes vary, probably due to whatever i was fighting at the time. Some fights i had good amount of end left over, others...not so much. Currently my settings are at +0/x2...and has been for quite a while (i think maybe since late DO levels).

My slotting has been acc first slot, end redux the next two slots, especially in the AoE attacks, and THEN maybe some damage. After i get a few more slots to play with, i'll start doing some frankenslotting. Do have some basic IOs now, mostly end redux.

After hitting 28 and getting Energy Drain, end worries are now a thing of the past. I can pretty much go non-stop now, endurance wise. Plus drain helps with the defense, and in turn, with the green bar.

I say stick with it...life gets better. Maybe move your difficulty up, particularly the # of players, up as soon as you can. Both TW and to a degree EA (i'm looking at you Entropic Aura) thrive on larger groups. TW because it's so AoE heavy and higher +Rech bonus from Entropic Aura due to more targets. Also...hasten ASAP helps too.

  12. Yeah...i gotta few homage toons myself...

Rocky Martin...Ricky Martin (tho i'm sure you guys are smart enough to make that connection).

    Ninja T...Mr. T...and he's a ninja...

Brawler T...See above...minus the ninja part...dressed similarly to how he appears on a cover of a GI Joe comic.

Jack Blackheart...well...this one is less of an homage as it's a combination of names. Jack Black and Blackheart. ...And he's a Widow...uh.....-er.....

I WAS gonna make a toon named Rocky Balboulder...but someone beat me to it (at least on infinity....GRR!)

Still wish that CoH had either a duck or chicken head costume option (though i could probably make a reasonable facsimily thereof) so i could do either Duck Norris or Cluck Norris....hehehehe (probably been done already tho...hah)
  13. Another one before i hit the road for work...

    Rocky Martin, earth/stone dominator

A former international pop sensation with hit singles like "Livin' la vida rica" and "She bombs", he was loved by all the world over. That is at least until his skin began to turn into stone during a live concert that was being simulcast the world over.

Shunned and disgraced for being a "freak", Rocky went into hiding, which eventually led him to the Rogue Isles. By that time, he'd learned that he could harness and control aspects of the Earth itself.

Determined to make a comeback, he plans to make a name for himself here to any and every (captive) audience he can. He'll make it back to the top of the charts...one smash hit at a time.

  15. One of the things I enjoy about the City Of... is coming up with concepts for my characters. Even if sometimes the concept I originally thought up is suddenly changed by a random spur of inspiration.

I also enjoy occasionally checking character info's to see what other players have imagined up. This got me thinking, and thereby influenced me to start up this silly little thread. What's your concept?

My latest toon: Rakasi on Infinity server.

My original idea was a sort of an homage to the Legacy of Kain series...particularly the Soul Reaver games in which the main character Raziel was bounded to the sword Soul Reaver (in wraith blade form). Later in the series its revealed that the Soul Reaver is actually Raziel's own soul that had been absorbed into the original Soul Reaver (or simply the Reaver as it was known as before that moment).

Anyhoo...without going into any more great depth into the game (that would take WAY too long).

After doing my first costume mission, it hit me. After coloring all of his /EA powers green, and the "eyes" and FX on the Minotaur Axe to a green...my concept changed.

Rakasi is able to amplify and channel the power of his soul. This ability enables him to create protective fields and amplify the strength of his weapon by infusing it with a part of himself. His soul is also, apparently, destined for battle, as the more he engages in it, the stronger it becomes, and in turn himself (fury generation).

As his power increases, he even learns to use his soul to heal his wounded body (Energize), and steal a portion of another person's soul to reverse the effects of fatigue and enhance his protective fields (Energy Drain).

This is roughly what I came up with. Feel free to share your ideas and imagination here.
  16. My TW/EA brute seems to be doing just fine on fury. Even during the times that the RNG is being kind and i'm not getting hit a whole heck of alot, i can still crank my FU-bar to some pretty decent levels.
  17. I've thought about making an Ice/ tanker, and one of the 2 pairings i was leaning towards was /Stone. I've got a Stone/WP brute, and I still love the smashy feel of stone melee. Granted, on a tanker it wouldn't have the same impact, damage-wise, but the earth-shattering "KaBoom!" might still make it worth while.

Plus, i had the thought that i could still conceptually tie in /stone with /ice by using the crystal customizations and color them so that they look like ice. And who doesn't wanna clock some poor shmuck upside the head with a big friggin ice hammer? Good times....goooood times.

(the other set i'm concidering is /TW....still trying to decide between Ice/ and Elec/ for this one)

This is pretty much what i'm doing with my TW/EA brute at the moment. First priorities are slotting for ACC and End Redux, THEN plug in some damage...particularly in the AoE attacks as they're the worst offenders. He's 26 right now (2 levels away from Energy Drain...YAY!) and so far it's not working out TOO badly.

Right now i'm trying to figure out how i'm going to boost up his S/L (at least) and possibly Energy defenses to at or near soft cap levels. With no Mids support just yet and just a quick peruse of some of my options...could be a tad difficult as most of the attacks in TW are PBAoE...and there's not a ton of options for that. Then again...I'm still trying to get a handle on IO's (Plus I don't have Energy Drain yet to see the impact that's gonna have on defense).

(As an aside...i'm seriously thinking about rolling up an Elec/TW tank. I'm not usually big on tankers but, with /TW...it might have some promise.)

  21. I was trying to decide what kind of TW toon to create last night (which i never managed to do so cuz...i couldn't decide) and had a thought hit me when i was concidering a couple of tanker combinations, even though i'm not big on tankers.

The T1 attack for tanks comes with the bruising effect. In all other powersets...the T1 attack is ST. But...for Titans...the T1 is AoE. Does that mean...EVERYTHING you hit gets clocked with Bruising?

  24. My stealth ranged toon was my TA/Archery defender. Since he stays airborne the entire time i'm playing him, +stealth IO in hover. That alone could get him in close enough to mobs without being seen. If i (for whatever god forsaken reason) i needed to get closer....Flash Arrow. Effectively invisible at that point.

EDIT: Since i don't wanna double post...in reference to Bosstone's comment, i'm pretty sure a few issues back, they "fixed" that so that +stealth IO's that are set in toggles turn off when the power is detoggled now. It no longer has the 120 duration afterwards, only as long as the toggle is on. Only the clickie powers, ie Teleport have the 120 second duration.
