Hello I've never been to great with doms get it to 4 then I'd hit the character selct screen to delete it, But I thought to give it a shot again. I had an idea for a character but I was tired of seeing so many Blasters, Brutes, Tanks, Widows/spiders, and Scraps on my screen. Thought I would give the dom a try again I hear they are amazing if you set them right. Was thinking on going either plant/thorn or fire/fire. Tell me what you think of the combo

First of all...for giving up so early on a dommy...<Delivers a Leroy Jethro Gibbs headslap to the mom...stalker...guy..............> ...Just say thank you and leave it at that....

I can't really speak for the fire/fire but I do have a P/T dom in the high 40's.

Plant is one of the better, if not a good contender for one of the best, control sets out there. It has one of the best every-mob controls in the form of Seeds of Confusion. A fairly wide, and decent ranged mass confusion power. Doesn't take much slotting to make perma due to a fast base recharge of one minute and a decently lasting confuse effect. If there is a downside to this power, is that unlike other powers of its kind, you DO draw aggro on anything you missed....or is resistant to confuse (CURSE YOU NEMESIS!) Outside of these instances...slot it, use it, LOVE IT!

Carrion Creepers: these suckers are just plain fun. Location AoE patch that spawns big creepy screamy viney things all over the friggin place. They can actually attact aggro to themselves, attack enemies, and sometimes put stuff on their rear ends. Also have a decent slow. Nicer still...they actually stick around for a while. You could fight one mob...beat the stuffing out of them...run down the hall...start another fight...and HELLO...more vines start popping up all over the place.

The AoE immobilize actually has some fairly decent damage to it, tho unless you're a controller, that won't really be that big of a deal. You're main use for it...stick all those suckers you just clustered up with Seeds of Confusion to the floor for some good AoE slaughtery goodness.

Vines is a pretty good, if standard fair AoE hold...but one of which that is ranged. A plus in my book.

Chompy (Or Audry II), Or commonly known as Giant Fly Trap, to me is just friggin cool lookin. Not a particularly bad pet either. Does some ranged damage...melee attacks...a bit of aoe...and immobilizes from time to time.

Tree of Life. Think Triage Beacon from Traps....but...in tree form. Don't think the +regen is quite as high tho. Not bad...not great either. I skipped it personally.

Ranged AoE sleep. Eh...it's a sleep...but it's ranged. Could help with adds maybe....but i skipped this one too. Still...might be good for a set mule.

As far as /Thorns go...if you have experience with Spines...then you'll already have a decent grasp on thorns...save that you'll have a bit more ranged attacks. Pretty good damage IME. Especially after the changes they made to doms with the overall damage boost. Not the highest damage set...but definitely not lacking. Downsides are going to be redraw (which didn't bother me) and it's Lethal damage with most powers having a Toxic DoT.

/Fire pretty much has the highest damage for dommy assault sets, and tho i haven't personally tried it yet, i hear that Plant/Fire doms are carnage in motion. Good control paired with great damage.

I wanted to comment on the Plant/thorns. I have a lvl 50 incarnate plant/thorns. She's heavily IOed, permadom without hasten, though I do have hasten. She's got 30% or so S/L Defense. So she's a good toon. I love plant.

However, Thorns has gotten fairly annoying. First it's mostly lethal, which is heavily resisted. 2nd, it's got redraw, which is annoying. lastly, the tier 3 blast has a big knockback on it, which I find annoying, and the tier 2 blast has a really long animation.

Really the only good thing about thorns IMO is fling thorns, which animates fast and rather big at a 90 degree cone. Only 30 feet, but wide. End result of all this though is that I have become discouraged about my Plant/Thorns. I absolutely love plant though, and so am in the process of leveling a Plant/Fire up to 50, then I plan on stripping the IOs out of my plant/thorns. It's not that /thorn is crippled or bad, but the annoyances have started to out-way the good for me.

So my suggestion is try either plant/fire or fire/fire.

You really can't go wrong with Plant. As far as I'm concerned, it's so good that I will actually never make another dominator since Plant has spoiled me something fierce.

I can also vouch for the laughably strong ability of plant/fire, especially plant/fire/fire... mine sounds similar to Vysires, heavily IO'd, permadom (with hasten though), low 30s defense (but ranged, as opposed to S/L), incarnated (protip: take Intuition, it's amazing on Dominators and +range is incredibly useful on Seeds of Confusion and your AoE immobilize because you can start kiting mobs with it).

AoE Immobilize and Rain of Fire play really nice with each other. Embrace of Fire boosts basically all of your damage by 80% for 30 seconds which is incredible. Seeds recharges fast enough that it's really the only control power you need on a regular basis. Creepers, Fire Ball, Rain of Fire, Fire Breath, and Roots are all very strong powers. You will burn (heh heh) through a ton of endurance though and you even get Consume to recharge after you blow your load of patches and high-endurance control powers all over a mob.

Thanks for all the replys Think i'll give plant/fire a try. Though I am still open to any advice others wish to add

Have a plant/thorn/fire that's an AoE engine of destruction. I don't really sweat the redraw, since queuing a thorns power while he's doing something else spawns them mid-animation, for the most part.

Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas

Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.

Yep. Plant gets my vote as well of course.

I'll just throw an alternate idea out here, plant/psi/fire. I really can't tell people enough how awesome this combo is. With high recharge drain psyche will keep you capped on regen and recovery when you really need it.
Similar to what someone else said here, I don't know how I can make another dom without plant or psi. Everything else just seems weak in comparison.
