^ This. Although I'll still buy recipes if it's decently cheaper, but I will overpay by quite a bit when buying to use vs buying to profit.
  4. I think 20/30 e-merits is probably right. You can acquire an E-merit in about 1/2 the time a HAM/VAM takes, plus you can get 2 a day. That sounds like about the spread they'd give as a bonus for grouping.

OTOH, it could be less, simply because they want those bigger rewards to be more attainable for Incarnates who are playing end-game content. But since they're tradeable...

I definitely remember MoG being regarded as a suicide button that was basically something you only used against Malta.

But I also remember when IH was a toggle... and iirc, it was so strong you could hardcap regen with like 4-5 SOs in it. Then again, they weren't even the most abusive, because a fire/fire tank could melt huge groups of +6s with burn no problem.

Grats, and great job on the game lately. I've been really impressed with GR and the post-GR issues.

    And thanks for /ah

So awesome. For those who haven't read this series yet: don't start, because the wait for new books is physically painful because they're so awesome. Wait until the series ends, then enjoy them.

    hyperinflation

    I tend to disagree.

3 years ago was early 2008. Purple IOs were added in I11, which came out in Nov 2007 (next issue was May 2008). Good purples settled in the 40-50m range for a while, if I recall correctly, so that would mean ~50m then = 500m now, say.

But, a lot of other IOs haven't changed much. Back then, a LotG could fetch 100m, not a huge change. Crushing impacts can be had for ~3-4m, which is almost exactly what they were back then. (I seem to recall buying a bunch of recipes for ~1m and selling crafted ones for ~3-4m, and ~3m was exactly what you needed to bid to get a 50 dam/rech today.)

There are some things which are exceedingly rare that have set unprecedented prices; ie, PvP IOs, but they didn't exist back then. Or L53 Hami-Os, but I think a lot more were in circulation because the bug that created them was only in the recent past.

There have been a lot of mechanics changes too; AE, for example, I would expect to inflate purples a lot relative to other things, since purples couldn't be acquired via tickets. Rebalancing the drop pools to have less snipe recipes and more good things made some things that used to be oversupplied actually have some value. The change to the difficulty slider was probably a really big deal. I used to 5-box to farm (although I probably only put 30-40 hours total into it, but that was good for a billion influence, which was kind of a lot back then). Now anyone can do that.

Yeah. I remember posting back in the I9/10/11 days, and I'd mention I was making 100m a day on 20 minutes worth of work, and I'd get a bunch of amazed pms asking how. I think if that was what I was managing on the market today (and I don't do marketeering at the moment, I just craft and sell my drops, at the moment... well, and buy stuff), if I got pms, they'd be to make suggestions so I wouldn't be doing so badly

People used to post screenshots of a billion infl as it were an amazing achievement... and now, from reading the Market forum, it seems like there's a set of people that would call that a "slow day".

    2010 4Q earnings

That's Q1-Q4 quarterly sales. Looks like ~no loss of subscribers. Going Rogue added a lot of revenue to Q3, and probably shifted a small amount of revenue from Q4 to Q3 because it added a month. (People on longer subscriptions would have renewed a month later, meaning Q304 effectively "borrowed" some subscription revenue from later quarters; that effective will technically last for the entire next year; someone who was annual and set to renew in March won't renew until April, for example.)

So for Q4, 3,329 mm S Korean Won = $2,876,554 in USD, or about $958k/month. Subscription plans can range anywhere from $10.28/month (12+2, which I think I've used the last 2 years on both accounts) to $14.99 for monthly. That's anywhere from 64k - 93k subs, discounting the effects of the add-on packs.

I'd bet ~70-80k subs, and I'd bet that people who are on discounted subs (3/6/12/12+2) are more likely to buy add-on packs. I would have bet the "combo" packs that had things like costume change emotes + powers + costume options + emotes all bundled were better sellers than something that was purely cosmetic, although the Origins pack was (imo) pretty badass for a cosmetic pack.

That's not bad for a 7-year-old game; but then again, the metric is really as much about the direction of the arrow as the sub numbers. When CoH launched, EVE had <50k subscribers; now it has >300k. I think the interesting thing is: will CoH be able to build on it's subscriber base? I never actually unsubbed, but I largely stopped playing, but the awesome stuff from the past few issues (GR stuff, but also things like tintable powers and Incarnate fun) has had me wanting to get back into the game (which I finally did). I had another friend (who actually had unsubbed) who returned around Architect time. Hopefully the quality wins people over/back.

    Market Bug?

Ok, I don't get that at all. I just logged onto a different toon who ALSO has one listed (at 3,111,111), and the last 5 is BACK to 10 million.

Are people SO eager to pay 10 million that they can't be bothered to type "4,000,000" or even "5,000,000". Or is someone monitoring the last 5 and blowing 50m to reset the last 5 so they can sell some colossal inventory?

Edit: I just bought 5 for 3m or under. Your move, weirdo 10m buyers.

This enhancement has been listed for days, at least:

Since there have been many, many sales dramatically higher than my list price, what could possibly be going on here, other than a bug?

    L53 Hamis

I'm curious what people are using these for. I logged onto my ill/kin controller the other day, who hasn't been respeced since before IOs were put in, and isn't played much.

I noticed he has a bunch of L53 HOs slotted. I got curious and peeked at L53 Nucleolus HOs, saw 1 sale at 2B. I guess I'm wondering two things:

    (1) What's the real market right now for L53 HOs? Which ones are sought and what are they running?

    (2) What do people use them for? I had a lot of L53 HOs because I used to multibox old-school Hami quite a bit and so it was convenient just to sidekick myself (which was what caused him to bug out and drop the 52/53s instead of 50s). I was thinking about updating his build, getting inherent fitness, and getting IOs w/ bonuses instead of HOs. In his build they add almost no utility. But maybe I should save them for some other character/build in the future? I'm curious where other people are slotting them. Or are people paying top dollar for them because they're just like collector's items now?

(As a related note, are people buying 50s and combining to make 52s much? Or buying 52s when they're around and combining to make 53s? And will level shift impact the efficacy of Hami-Os? If you have a L53 slotted and you're at +3 level shift, are you back to 33.3% instead of 38.3%?)

Yeah. I logged onto an alt the other day and discovered I had 7 low (<20) res/def ios in his market slots. I thought about listing them and then figured - eh, I'll use them, later if not sooner.

The only reason it isn't possible in RL is because so many people are manipulating the market it becomes efficient. (And, people don't have quite the same attitude of entitlement/instant gratification in real life, although it's close.)
  19. I'm a fan of meters. I'd like them even for CoH. I'd like people to know how much damage my blaster is doing so I don't feel like dead weight for lacking debuffs.

    Yeah. They're magic globals.

So globals are like set bonuses, and are active as long as the IO is available - ie, if you put a L25 LotG in your L49 power, it works even if you are exemplared to 22 and that power is disabled. (If you were examplared to 6, it would shut off, because L25 IOs can't be slotted by L6 characters.)

Procs are like the opposite - they work as long as the power works. So a L50 Numina slotted into health will always work (since health is a L2 inherent). The level of the IO doesn't matter. But if you put a L30 Miracle into, say, Physical Perfection, and then exemplar to 30, it will shut off, because Physical Perfection isn't available at 35. (+5 rule for power deactivation now)

The global-type PvP IOs are the 3rd case; they act exactly like the other globals, as a set bonus, except that bonus does not take the level of the IO into account at all. (So a L50 proc in a L49 power is still active exemplared to L2.)

This. I mean, I don't really expect them to change it, but the purpose temp powers serve right now is:

"Oh crap, my recipes are full. Oh, sweet, 7 temp powers, I can just delete those and hold off hitting the market/vendor a bit longer."

Glad the OP posted, though, because I would have gone the other way.

Back when purples were released, before the improved diff slider, I farmed quite hardcore for maybe 50 hours and would 5-box the demon mission. During that time I probably had 15-20 purples drop. I was subbed but more or less "away" for a lot of issues (pre-MA all the way until just before GR, basically), and upon returning, I've found purples just aren't dropping for me. I've had 1, maybe 2, both of which were junky (like, Sleep/Confuse recipes)... and yet I've probably full-cleared the entire Sam Naples map (minus the objective pack behind the building) at least 50 times, because I was powerleveling my own ill/rad. (Fun sets, always wanted one, but I just don't have any interest in playing it pre-Phantasm.) In all that time, zero purple drops. And I've cleared it a few times as I gathered tips (I'd 3 box set to 5/+0, to get all 3 accounts tips, so I could pick and choose the tips I enjoyed more). (Edited to note: yeah, once got 3 purples in 2 map clears.)

So, yeah, a ton of killing, plus I've run maybe ~6-7 L50 task forces. (Which in the grant scheme of things matters little, since that's drops being split 8 ways, and when I farm I get it all. )

Heck, back in the day, I got 2 purples just from the times I'd be killing time clearing the top of the Fortress with my warshade in Cimerora.

So I would have said, if anything, the drop rate was lower/much lower. Glad someone is scoring.
