Huh. I'd never heard of the Power 10 before, thanks for the info. I'm glad I came along after that was changed. Seems an odd design decision.

Sidetrack, but I've always wondered what the point of having contacts sell enhancements is anyway. Is it just to trick the unknowing into paying more when they could have headed to the nearest store? Seems just a tad cruel to beginning players. Is there any reason someone would pay contact prices after learning about their gouging? Is it just sheer laziness, that traveling any distance is too much effort?

What? How did Cybrid make the list of robots? He's a chicken, I tell you! A giant chicken! Just look at him!

Quote:Well, mostly. There are some great story arcs in the game (and some duds too, it's not perfect but I think for the most part content here is pretty good.) but most missions will boil down to go to X, defeat Y, find Z. That's not something that is unique to CoH/V, it's a MMO thing in general. My first question is about the missions. Around level 6 I went to my new contact who basically had a series of missions that were a choice between killing X-number of guys or enter warehouse and destroy/find 3 boxes of X. Is this typical for the rest of the missions in the game? (this is not a big deal, just curious)
Quote:Second question is about respecs. One of my contacts (think it was Ms. Liberty) said there are 3 opportunities to respec that are one-time only. So after the third respec I can never respec again? There are three trials that you can do that will allow you to select a respec. You can run the trials as much as you want, but can only pick that one reward once for each trial. There are also Respec recipies as part of the Invention System. They are somewhat rare and tend to be very expensive. There are also Veteran Rewards that include free respecs for your characters, unfortunately you will not have access to those for a few months. For Villains, completing the first part of your Patron arc will also grant you a respec seperate from the three trial respecs. Often (but not as a strict rule) each character will recieve a free respec with the launch of each new Issue, to account for any changes that issue makes to powers in the game. And finally you can always pay real money to receive a respec for an individual character. I think the cost is $10 or so. I've never used that option, and I don't think that many people really do.

Yes, it happens. Someone reported his name and/or backstory as a EULA violation. A GM took a look (probably a quick scan, really) and decided to reset the character name and bio. Your friend will recieve an email containing instructions on how to select a new name.
Things to do:
Respond to the official email, which will include directions on contacting Customer Service if your friend feels this was in error. It's rare but not unheard of for them to change their minds upon review. If they do change their minds the name will be restored and the character will be flagged as safe from future name violation reports.
Think of new names you would like in the event the old name is not restored. You'll want to come up with three of them.
Things NOT to do:
Post here about the old name, GMs, Customer Service, or the anonymous player who reported it. It won't do you any good, and will just annoy the mods.
Pay for a name change from Generic000000. You'll be getting one for free, so don't waste your money.
Really, unless your friend is a repeat offender on this kind of thing it's nothing to worry about. -
It's more that you haven't proved (or even tried to prove) that there is anything wrong with the first three sentences in your OP. You haven't established a reason for it beyond wanting to make it suit your playstyle.

Crap. Was it 3 if by message board and 4 if by merged game clients? Or the other way around?
-
For #2 I'm betting you're using /h or /help to talk. The command was changed to /hc with i14 or 15. I can't remember which.

That's all I'm going to make until level 50.

Yeah, that's what everyone says. Even those 63 month vets with no level 50s.
And you did snag several great names in there. It's things like this that make me ignore every "all the good names are taken" post. -
You're on a female character. Males and Huge don't have access to the Venus symbol.
Edit: No, you're not the only person to question that logic. It would just seem that NcSoft doesn't want to deal with the headache certain folks might give them over it. -

So....
If we say people's names multiple times they come back or appear in this thread.
Satanic Hamster. Satanic Hamster. Satanic Hamster!

I thought that only worked for Hickman? -
You'll need to resize your windows. The default is too large for me too, so I feel your pain. When you log back in go to Menu - Options - Graphics and Audio. You want the Window Scale slider. Just crank it down.
If you have it happen to you again, you don't need to log out to get rid of the unwanted text. Zoning will clear it, and you can still access the menu to lower the window size until you can see the close button. Because it keeps thinking you want to read the pop up, you will have to drag it around the screen to be able to click on the menu options. -
The new patch was broken. Stiener is aware and planning to look at it on Monday. He reset the download version to the old one, so re-installing should work.
I didn't have the new patch, so no promises though. >.>
Also and unrelated, there are some weird word choices in the forum word filter. -
It may be easier to ask in the Help channel. You can use the command /hc to send your message there. The people who team the two of you together don't have to be in the same zone to do it.
And let me echo the welcome to CoH/V. -
Piston Boots are probably as close as you are going to get.
-
Welcome to the game!
If you do decide to roll a character on Virtue here is a recent thread containing several global channels you'll probably want to look into. Learning your way around global channels is a great way to find teams that know what they're doing and will be happy to help you get started.
Here is a guide for new players on the ever popular ParagonWiki. It's aimed for people who didn't know what they were doing and got in over their heads, but it's full of information that would probably be useful. Just know that when it's talking about messed up builds and bad habits, it's not talking about you. You're already ahead of those people.
And the best advice is what you are doing now and the reason you've got a good start. Ask questions! Lots of them. People here love to talk. Sometimes even about the game.Ask here on the forums, in global channels, and if you see someone do something cool in game ask them how they did it.

Gee, it doesn't look like you've left.

Give him a break, it's only been 2 months. You can't expect someone to just quit a voluntary activity that costs money and they openly don't like right away, can you? It's just not that easy. You make it sound like there's some magic "delete" button. Get real, man. -
Isn't that more of a graphic/rendering thing though? If the colors are part of your costume than it's no more of a hit than what people with weapon customization bring to a raid now. The server tells my computer what you look like and that look just includes whatever kind of sword.
The powers were going to be used whether they were colored or not, so if it's just a costume piece there really isn't any extra info being passed along each time you fire a blast. Any new lag would be during the assembly of the raid as you first saw everyone's costumes. -
[ QUOTE ]
Where there's fire, there's smoke...and smoke hides just as well as being invisible. I could easily see a Fiery Melee or Fiery Aura Stalker work. Especially if Placate and Hide involved vanishing into a swirling mass of smoke and embers, and then reappearing in a sudden blazing flash when you strike, like a backdraft.
That could be pretty darn cool.

You know that gift basket PP wants to send Castle? There'd be one with your name on it for this. -
Do they need saving? They make up about 50.25% of the population. Seems like that would be enough.

"Unexpected server downtime"
They're not responsible for your expectations.
It's clearly stated when server maintenance is. If one can't be bothered to read the fine print, one gets what one deserves.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, the really fine print includes everything up to and including them waking up in the morning and deciding to pull the plug on the whole thing for good with no particular reason other than they, "felt like it."
And to head off the complaints about how evil that is, you'll find a similar clause in every online game. -
[ QUOTE ]
I haven't pulled off the Silos SF, though. For some reason it seems even more difficult to manage my teammates when they're Arachnos.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's less interesting to do, but it is possible to lure the Heroes to the Jade Spider as they spawn. I've yet to see them defeat it, and it will take them out for you one at a time. Other than pulling you barely have to do any work.
You'll have to wait for your Arachnos "help" to get lost or killed first. Otherwise they'll just screw things up. -
We should get a seperate subforum for rants. It'd certainly keep all the clutter from infesting the rest of the board.
I'm entirely lost as to why you feel that farming is the only thing to do at 50. I have no idea why you stayed teamed with bad teams. I think you're confused about the differences between NCSoft, Atari, Cryptic, and Paragon Studios. I'm curious as to why you think you can't keep creating alts. And I'm really puzzled as to why you don't believe you can play this game casually. The only "loot" you need at high levels are SOs. It's not like those are hard to get.
So I'm guessing you never left Atlas, are not part of any global channels, aren't in a sg that does more than farm and PL (if you're in one at all), and decided to spend your time joining random PuGs via broadcast. I have no doubt that you had a horrible experience.
Ultimately this may not be the game for you. That's fine. Not everyone likes everything. But you should be aware that your rant is filled with mostly incorrect "facts" and the ones that are true merely show that you didn't know what you were doing.
