It's from the EU and NA forum merger. -
The Royal Positron Acting Company Wants You!
Yes, you heard that right. We want YOU! Specifically were looking for people who would be interested in playing extras for an RP event to be held on Sunday, April 25th. This event will begin at 6 pm EDT. Extras will only be needed for half an hour at most; its likely that youll be finished within 20 minutes of the start.
Extras will meet shortly before 6 pm and then make their appearance on stage together. They will be given a stock character to play and a set of phrases to use. The only real requirements are to be able to create a new villain character and show up on time. You can customize your extra a little if you wish, however the point is to have them all look very similar to each other. We will provide both the basic costume description and macros for your lines.
So what is this event?
This event is going to be an open RP event that will lead to an in-character scavenger hunt style rescue mission culminating in an AE mission. Prizes will be given out to the first teams to finish. More details will be posted later once I can get a final head count of actors involved. The event itself will be open to both heroes and villains.
If its a scavenger hunt what do you need extras for?
For the set up; once the plot gets moving the extras are free to go.
So if Im an extra I cant participate and win prizes?
People who start as one of the extras are more than welcome to switch to one of their characters and join in the event. Since your part will occur so early in the event and Im not going to be telling you any details you arent going to be able to cheat your way into finishing. Extras wont know any more of the plot than those who were part of the audience from the beginning. Id love it if everyone stuck around to join in the RP fun.
Why a villain character?
Because well be using a VG base as a green room to house you prior to your entrance. Coordinating via SG chat also makes life easier on everyone.
What the [censored] is the Royal Positron Acting Company?!
Its the name for a small group of people who have decided to put on an RP event for their in game friends and invite all of Virtue to attend. The name is what it is because Im easily amused.
If you would like to volunteer to help or have any questions, comments, or random insults you can post here, send me a private message on these forums or send a Tell to @Bedloe in game. -
Quote:Global channels. Valkryja gave one, but there are many more. Once you get the hang of using them you'll never want for a team. Your best bet is to head to the server forum appropriate to your scrapper and ask them which ones are popular there. Now I would just really like to meet some friendly people to play with!
Global channels are just that though, they cut across servers and the hero/villain divide. One of the great things about this game is that thanks to instancing you don't have people camping around waiting for one critter to spawn. You just go out and start playing. The downside is that it can make the game seem empty since there isn't always someone crowding around you.
With global channels you can see people putting together teams, raids, Task/Strike Forces and just chatting. It's sort of the behind the scenes hang out for CoX. Because of the rampant altitis here most players are more than willing to swap around to join in on something and with the sidekicking system levels aren't really a barrier to teaming. -
You didn't ask directly, but there isn't as much reason to be worried about your team's survival if they start drawing aggro. Fury sort of encourages you to only care about it in selfish terms.
And unlike heroes the ATs are not as "squishy." All except for Doms have damage as a primary and they all have some form of damage mitigation. There are no glass cannons like Blasters. So for the most part if your teammates start stealing aggro from you after the alpha strike it's safe to assume that they can deal with it themselves.
Outside of the occasional SF strategy (and even then it's not required) Taunt is really just one more fury building tool for you. Be selfish. You're a villain now. -
Not that I have any real desire to see a naked Maelstrom, but Issue 9 is going to help GG's case more than yours.. The goon butt-kickery takes place inside a strip club. >.>

Well, technically you could do it if you lowered all the regeneration bonuses to a quarter or half what they are on a Scrapper. It would still need to spend quite a bit in testing both internally and on the beta server in order to get the numbers right.
And don't forget all the people who would be up in arms about the "nerfs" to the set. Regeneration has a long history of alternately being stupidly overpowered and screwed with and it's only in the last couple of years that it's really been balanced. Once people saw the numbers that would be needed to balance it for Brutes the wailing would be loud and bitter indeed.
Do not ask about Tanks though. They'd need to start the bonuses at a quarter of Scrapper levels and work down from there.

Quote:Actually, that's probably not a major problem. There's reason to believe that they could set it up so holsters/quivers/scabbards were appropriately empty or not. It was discussed recently in this thread. As far as just side holsters go, the guns would either need to always be in them, or they would need to be always empty.
It's just that it would take up a ton of animation resources. How long it would take is anyone's guess but it's got to be at least an issue's worth (and most likely much more) for BaB, almost like doing weapon customtization all over again. With back items being messed up there's little reason to think the Devs would want to spend so much time and money on it. -
-
They don't herd, but Regen Stalkers are sometimes used to tank Hami during villain raids. This is normally much faster than setting up a stream of suicidal MM henchmen.

Using this guide as a template I made an AR/Ice Blaster. I played him only in PUGs and he's currently at 28. Someday I hope to finish with him. His build:

If he ever makes it to 50 I'll have to try a TOGGLE MAN build. -
Having the sword disappear from your scabbard is probably not the problem. All the weapon sets have a costume piece appear and disappear based on your combat stance, and the auras from the Tech Pack are all stance based as well. Presumably the same sort of thing could be done with scabbards. If you aren't too picky about how close your hand got while you were reaching for your weapon (and I don't think people lacking individual fingers should be that picky, just pretend your meat mitten grabbed it) you wouldn't really need new animations for powers either.
The biggest problem would be what ClawsandEffect said, back items don't look right. I suppose you could make one just for Katana (I think it uses a side draw, I haven't played it in while) but that'd really tick off all of those Broadsword people.
There's also the issue of matching the hilt of your sword as it sticks out of the scabbard to the one you're using when it's drawn. Is it possible to tie them both to the same selection? Would you need a seperate catagory just for hilts? Would it be just the default Legacy model for everyone?
And yeah, time and money. Somebody go clone BaBs. This game would be a lot cooler if we had more than one. -
Quote:Second Worse room in the game.
THE WORSE ROOM is the new Arachnos Techno Cake Room(Came out with Grandville came out). Its 5x Bigger(Vertically) & 3x Bigger around.
That room is dreaded far more by anyone, even masterminds.
That room is simply known as "that room" amongst the people I usually play with. People will talk about the cake room or the fascist pools, but when somebody gets that room there's no need to explain. It's ineffably evil. Usually usage is "[censored], I got that room."
I don't know what's worse though, having a kill all in there and finding out that one lone Longbow Eagle has decided to hover in the middle of the room away from everything else and hidden behind a pillar or watching a MM henchman fall to the bottom and come rushing back like an eager puppy bringing the entire map with him. -
Whirlwind isn't on the list yet? Does anyone use it?
I know people use to pick it up late as a ghetto version of a costume change emote, but once we got those for real I haven't seen a single person use this. -
Quote:Okay, I don't know if it's intentional or not, but you seem to be mixing Power Customization, Weapon Customization, and Alternate Animations all together. While the end result is similar, they're different things as far as what they mean in this game and the programming for them was largely different. (That's why we didn't get all three at once)But the Dev's have done a lot of work to make things different now haven't they? It seems that if when they did all that work, I would hope, they made it easy to say add more skins for Assault Rifle, so a crossbow skin wouldn't take that long.
Power Customization is where you get to choose the colors of your powers. Note that this is combined with Alternate Animations but not combined with Weapon Customization.
Weapon Customization is selecting a new weapon skin for your powers. All of these have the weapon acting as a costume piece and the animation for the power is you swinging your arm with the effects occuring. You could have an invisible weapon and it'd work just as well. This has occured on Test at least once due to a bug and there is no functional difference, it's like saying powers work the same with or without a cape.
Alternate Animations is a whole new animation for certain powers. So far the only sets with this available are Super Strength and Martial Arts and even then not for every power in the set. It's combined with Power Customization but not with Weapon Customization.
So your suggestions to add Alternate Animations to Archery and Trick Arrow would require new animations all around as well as altering things to allow Weapon Customization and Alternate Animations, something currently not available. This is a lot of work, whether you're ready to acknowledge it or not.
Your new suggestion, add a crossbow to Assault Rifle, is straight Weapon Customization. This is much easier, although how much we haven't been told exactly. If it's really a spare time kind of thing I'd have expected much more of them then we have. Since they aren't handing them out like party favors it's probably a non-trivial task, albiet not on the level of recreating the wheel like Alternate Animations.
This would also mean that your new crossbow would have nothing to do with Archery or Trick Arrow. It would be an Assault Rifle. It'd shoot bullets, fire grenades and have a flamethrower. You'd machine gun the NPC's as your tier 9 with a spray of gunfire. And no, you don't get new sounds. It still sounds like a gun.
This sounds really strange to me, but if you'd like to see it there is an official place to request this kind of change, the Official Custom Weapon Request Thread. -
Swan says yes, better than even chain mail bikinis.
-
Nothing's changed with either binds or the fly poses. I don't know what the problem would be.
Give these binds a try and see if it works better for you.

Quote:Six demons is a good bet. 9-10 power animations each? Not so much. Tier 1 henchmen typically have four or five attacks when fully upgraded. Tier 3 are typically have six to eight. There are probably 6 demons. Each has 3 costumes. They all probably have about 9 to 10 power animations each.
And they do not have 3 costumes. They have one model. Models that are the same can reuse the same animation even if they have a different "costume look". For example the power animations for your Thugs Bruiser are all the same regardless of what model the game has in place. So the Bruiser does not have 24 animations for it's powers. It has 8. (That's fudging a bit, since it doesn't count combat stance or other transition animations. But that's getting too technical for me.)
Quote:Then you have to write the AI for each of them.
Quote:Then you have to beta test it.
Quote:Then you have to rebalance.
Quote:Test it again.
Quote:With Crossbow there isn't anything game wise to balance. You use an existing set and cut and paste new animations. But the animations aren't knew you can really just take them from another set.
Quote:I even said I'd be happy if they put crossbow in Assault Rifle.
Quote:I would ask that they give us new sound effects, but if that's too hard to make I'll get my little cousin making some sound effect files for the swooshing sounds and send it to BaBs.
Paragon Studios is hiring though. Tell you cousin to send in an application. I'm sure programming the game is a cinch. -
Quote:BaB's workload would be identical to creating an entirely new powerset. So for instance instead of Demon Summoning he could do this.I never expected it to be something done in one person's lunch break. But I also don't think its as hard as you are making out.
Edit: Could have done this, I should say. Since Demon Summoning is already mostly done. -
What do you expect? Everyone knows that Communists have the best demons. It's no suprise that turning red lets you summon a higher quality minion.
-
I'd consider anything in the base yours to do with as you please. If nobody has logged on in 4 months it's almost certainly a dead group. Groups pop up, run for a bit and then die when people either leave the game or move on from those alts all the time. Go nuts.
