Virtue: What to Expect

Hi Folks,

I'm currently an EUer, but our side is dying fast. I'll be moving over to the US side ASAP and I wondered what I should expect from Virtue server, what's its vibe?

Speaking as a former EU player who also made the jump:

An obscene population. Pocket D alone probably has more people in it than our entire frigging server.

A, uh, obscene population. People are a lot more open on the US servers about their character types (ERP, futanari, 'mature', that sort of thing). Not necessarily bad depending on your viewpoint, but rather jarring giving very few people actually did this on the EU.

Larger - much larger - roleplaying community, but one that isn't quite as tight (from what I've seen) as the EU.

You're going to find a team at 3am or 3pm, either side. Newbie zones not so much but there's a more consistent spread of players floating around the various level ranges.

US = EU But Bigger, basically.

Ditto on that. According to a friend, a recent non-rp event had more people with "RPer" in their bio attending than Union gets of all players on hero side at peak times.

The loose knit-ness of virtue is also a double edged blade, there may be 100 different versions of "cannon", but it does mean that you can avoid idiots a lot easier than on a server of 20 active rpers.
Don't like a particuler style of rp? chances are there is someone doing it completely different 20 foot away.

You will have to learn to grin and bare it over the ERPers if you choose to RP in D's, though. Most are fine, when keeping to themselves, but you will encounter the occasional idiot who will make you laugh/facepalm/vomit with their over the top behavior.
But unless they're doing it in public chat (or rediculous emote animation against a wall) theres little that can be done about them.

All in all, Virtue is a lot better, RPer or not, than the EU servers, if you can put up with the later time zones (although offpeak you'll be just as likely to get a team on virtue than onpeak at union).

Welcome to virtue, enjoy your stay

What to expect...well, I've never been on any other server so I can't say a whole lot about how things will be different from your own server, but for the greatest majority of my time here people have been nothing but nice and pleasant.

Don't expect every single person you meet to be a roleplayer, but do expect a lot of people to actually have a character description in that little box.

By the same token, don't feel that you need to have a description for your own characters.

Most of the people I roleplay as at the moment don't have a description.

The people on the Virtue forums do not represent the entirety of the population of Virtue.

Note:I am Australian and don't spend hours in the Pocket D and thus, might miss out on the 'ERP primetime' if there is such a thing; but I've seen surprisingly little of it, considering how long I've been around.
I suspect it's blown out of proportion. Innuendo notwithstanding.

You know the rule, "There's always one..."?

The MRP and ERP folks, by and large, are good people who aren't doing any harm and won't bother you.

Re: the rest of the server, again--largely good people doing good things. Second-highest-population server, full of nice people.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

He said what I wanted to say, but was unable to say due to mild sleep deprivation.

What to expect on Virtue?

1 - RP
2 - Lots of friendly people
3 - Teaming without it taking more than a few minutes finding a team
4 - An active community with lots of broadcast chatter, most of it entertaining.
5 - Big squishy boobie hugz™ from Detra

Welcome to the server

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I have to say that the population is bewilderingly large in contrast to our EU servers, but that's a great thing. I also like the sheer volume of RPers. But what's ERP? Erotic? I'm guessing MRP is Mature.

Erotic, yeah. In my experience the 'mature' tag is a rather feeble attempt at painting one's self as someone who still has their character do the whole sex thing, but does it in a way that makes it better.

If it's what you're looking for you won't be bothered by it. If you're bothered by it, then a simple 'no' has done wonders for me so far.

ERP: They're in it for the cyber.

MRP: They tend to be a bit graphic for a regular comic book. I've seen MRPers that had no desire to Cyber and had their characters capture and torture other PCs. Not always though. Mostly it means they will react realistically when compared to comic books. I like to think of the difference between MRP and regular RP is the difference between Watchmen and Justice League.

This is a glorious analogy. Thank you.

Judging by your avatar you'll fit right in... d;D

Fenris already mentioned it but it bears repeating

"The forums do not represent the whole server and take the forums with a grain of salt (even the giant spats that pop up ) "

Hope you enjoy your stay

ps

I really need to rework the old "Welcome to Virtue" cut and paste thingy :P

So, yeah. It's those who admit what they're after, and those who have to be pretentious about. S'what I said. :P

Ah. An EUer.

Let me sum this up for you.

Paying -Less- per month (seriously, Pound and Euro still trump the US Dollar and the cost is bizarrely the same with a different currency, wtf?) for more servers and thus more slots.

Welcome to the server
I have been playing on virtue for 2 months...

1~ I have found easily

2~ Not so much only a few random friendly people.

3~ I have NEVER been able to get a team going.

4~ 100% true.

5~ Uhm never happend.

*Places keyboard on head* "I are doing itz wrong!?!"
(I made the mistake of only staying in to D so I know that is part of my problem.)

You just have to wander into the rookery thread to get a dose of some of the greatest hugs on the internet, if not the best.

As for the friendly people and lack of teaming... I dunno why that is. I've found both good teams red and blue side.

although that was true when i first started playing CoH, with the current exchange rates (yay, recession), im paying just under a £ more.

Outside Pocket D, I find it to be a better than average server when it comes to finding people to team with who aren't complete idiots.

The RP thing means you have about a 30-40% chance on a team to encounter someone talking in character, otherwise unless you look for it, it's kinda just in the background

Inside Pocket D, it's a whole nudder thing. The RP is largely (with rare exceptions) cliquish and overwhelmingly dull, but there's plenty of kissyface RP (call it by whatever label you like) going on, but mostly it's in private, but there have been some Epic mistells into broadcast or local more than once. There are "regulars" there who seem to never actually leave "the D". Ever.

Out in the world, however, I have few complaints. Even most of the PuGs tend to be fairly decent.

I second the suggestion to start off by going to www.thecaperadio.com

It's the player-run radio station centered on Virtue. Not only will you get some pretty good tunes, joining the global channel will put you in touch with lots of good people for teaming, RP, OOC discussion, in-game events and contests, and general mayhem.

The radio station is a cornerstone of the server community, so once you get on virtue (or even if you're not on virtue), check it out and see what you have waiting for you.

find out what are the latest chat channels being used, too. There are several. On Virtue this often reduces my time in finding a team, and I see far more chatter on them than in main channels.

Just under a pound more for 2 English servers, 1 french and 1 german...basically 24 accessible slots if you don't speak French or German.

As opposed to 12 English speaking servers.

Hmm.

Not that i'm complaining. It's more than worth it, even if sticking to just the one server.
It's like paying that extra buck for a great burger, or less for a skaggy greasy spoon cafe burger.
